I read online the other day that the factory in the UK has stopped production and the product is being investigated by the government medicines watchdog. Let me see if I can find the link. [url=http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/9121864/Shops-run-out-of-gripe-water.html'>link[/url'> Looks like it's just an issue with what's written on the box! I found some at the weekend at Spinneys in Motor City. Next to the apple juice in the baby section. edited by DubaiCat on 05/03/2012

I like having the same people for the same reasons but this one, I tell her the way I like things done and she does it her way regardless! Even something as basic as 'Please start upstairs' is completely ignored :\:.

When you find you have the same maid every time, you realize pdq it's because they're not v good and nobody else wants them. I think you might be right. I have agency maids twice a week and it's always the same lady with another, different, lady. The same lady is an arrogant little pest with a right attitude problem!

I'm relieved to hear it. If they have the shoes I'm after, driving all the way down there will be no problem at all but I think if I dragged a bored toddler and grumpy newborn along and they didn't have them I might end up having a meltdown :(. I am so hoping they have them then I can wear them on Friday night :D :D.

Eve Michelle in Jumeirah! Yes indeed! And how's this for customer service... I emailed MIP in the UK and asked them who stocked their shoes over here. I also asked if the stockist would be likely to have one particular style. I got an email back within a couple of hours telling me Eve Michelle was the stockist and that they'd received a shipment of that style :D. Now all I have to do is get someone at Eve Michelle to understand what I mean when I call and ask if they have Clone style in black, size 39 :\:.

I've been looking for the perfect pair of black suede peep-toe shoes and I found them online at Moda In Pelle. Their website says they supply stockists in Dubai, but I've never seen them here! Can anyone help? TIA :).

Melanie Schlatter at Well Woman Clinic in Satwa Call 332 7117 Melanie is a New Zealander and made a huge difference to how I face stressful situations in my life. Thanks so much for your reply. I don't suppose she sees men, does she? Sorry, I forgot to mention it's for DH :).

Can anyone recommend a good counsellor to help someone deal with stress better? Preferably either in the New Dubai area, or not too far from the Ranches. Thanks :).

If you want to go rear-facing, try www.carseat.se. I believe they ship to Dubai but I'm not sure how their prices will compare to the Netherlands or Just Kidding here. I know current advice is rear-facing at least until 2 (and maybe 4 in some countries) but forward-facing correctly fitted is safer than unrestrained, so if you feel rear-facing will be just too much then go with forward. You can get something called a Buggy Driver from ELC which also works for car seats. It's a toy that clips to the sides of the seat so your child has something easily accessible to play with while you're driving - this might be worth a go if you think he'll kick up a fuss about being strapped in. And as everyone else says, be consistent and firm. Better a grumpy strapped-in toddler than one that's just been flung through the windshield. edited by DubaiCat on 01/03/2012

I went to the Nakheel office today and the lady said 'Yes, I think the JAV villas may be undergoing refurbishment but we have no information on that'. So I called the call centre and the guy said the only villas they rent out are GVV. Aaaaaaaaagh! Left hand and right hand?! Could you give me Idiots' Guide directions to the JAV villas, BellaUK? Maybe we can have a little wander around there over the weekend and see what they're like, then try and find someone more helpful at the Nakheel office. Al Muntazah office is on my list for next week. There's only so many times I can drag my kids down to Jebel Ali in a week!

I don't have any advice for you but I just wanted to say I feel for you - it's a horrible position to be in. I hesitated about seeing a doctor for PND during my second pregnancy as I was so scared to take any medication. Sadly I couldn't avoid doing something about it after I delivered, although I really didn't want to take medication while I was breastfeeding. Eventually I realised I couldn't go on as I was and saw a doctor who's also a lactation consultant, and she gave me medication she considered safe while breastfeeding. Then I saw a psychiatrist who basically told me I'd have to wean my daughter off my milk gradually and under no circumstances just stop feeding her cold turkey, as she'd suffer such horrendous withdrawal symptoms. And she also told me no PND medications are safe in breastfeeding. So now I feel like the world's most awful mother for putting my needs first and of course I'm panicking about the effect the meds might have had/still be having on DD :( :(. But I'm already taking them, and I can only feed DD for another four weeks so I'm gradually switching her over to formula. I wish more research was done on medication during pregnancy and breastfeeding. But as the psychiatrist said, it's so hard to carry out research as it's simply not ethical to test drugs on pregnant women or lactating mothers and infants.

Managed to get my tickets, was dreading today in case I wasn't successful! Sickened by the folk quoted in the papers, bragging about how they snapped up eight tickets to sell on for double the price.... Anyone remember what happened with Robbie Williams? People did the same with those tickets, bought stacks and tried to resell them at hugely inflated prices. Then got stuck with them at the last minute :).

shoegal76, thanks so much for such a helpful post - I appreciate you taking the time to write so much when you're not well :). Hope you get better soon. Thanks all, I've copied the info and sent it on to my friend. Turns out the contract actually does state the bonus is to be paid back pro-rata if she leaves before December 31. She sounded so down when I spoke to her earlier and says she'll take the bonus and stay, but do the bare minimum to get by and then look for a new job to start at the beginning of 2013. All her team have said the same thing. So, while I get that the company has done this to try and stop people leaving, they've shot themselves in the foot as they'll now have a bunch of people who don't want to work for them any more doing the bare bones of the job and nothing else for the rest of the year. Then they'll still have the mass exodus. PS ab, the title of the thread is 'Any labour law experts out there?' ;).

Yikes, that does sound like a long wait. But I guess it all depends on when a villa pops up and how many people are able to move at that time, right? I didn't realise there was more than one layout in Al Muntazah - the only one I've seen had one long room for the lounge/dining room. Is there another layout? I'll have to pop into the office and see if the manager likes me :). Re the JAV ones, BellaUK, who should I talk to?

I'm not sure, I'll have to ask her. If it says bonus in her contract, are they allowed to make her sign to say if she leaves she'll give it back? Good point about her not being able to take back all the hard graft she's put in over the past year.

She's concerned if she takes it and asks for the contract to state it'll be returned pro rata if she leaves, her boss will think she wants to leave and it'll be even more awkward for her :(. I can totally understand companies asking you to pay back rent loans and suchlike but asking you to agree to return a bonus based on the previous year's performance doesn't seem fair. The company has offices in London and New York, among other places, and their staff aren't being asked to do this.

What do you want expatwoman to do?! Arrange little games to play where everyone has to sit and say their name and what their favourite food is as a getting-to-know-you exercise?! They've already arranged coffee mornings where you could meet like-minded people.... do you need them to hold your hand as well?! Hi! Welcome to ExpatWoman! Don't hesitate to come on here and ask for info or advice if you're new to Dubai and stuck. I'm sure everyone will be rushing to help you out since you've been so nice..... :D.

No, but there are ways and means of using that info. Instead of directly quoting from the forum, you can contact the poster and ask them if it's ok to use what they've written, or would they like to give a personal quote. EW don't allow journalists to contact posters and won't pass on requests for posters to contact them, so she wouldn't have been able to access the poster via the forum.

The labour law does not say anything about this sort of thing. If she does agree to sign the agreement then it may be enforcable. If she doesn't she perhaps not get the bonus. This is Dubai!! That's what I thought - if she refuses to sign they probably won't give her the bonus but they've been a horrendous company to work for over the past year and she is considering moving, so she's stuck. Forgo the bonus to have the option to move, or take the bonus and be stuck working for them!
