I'd like to get another single stroller for when I'm out with only one of my children or for when DS wants to walk. My sister recommends Maclarens but I think the Bee looks quite handy. Does it fold down small and is it light? Anyone got any experience of either to share? Thanks :).

With my first, my bp was up from about 25 weeks and I had slight levels of protein in my urine. In my 36th week my bp went up further and the protein levels went through the roof, so it was pre-eclampsia and I was induced at 37 weeks. With my second my bp was very low - for me - throughout my whole pregnancy until my 35th week when it shot up all of a sudden. No protein in my urine until the day before I had a C-section, so all I had to do was monitor bp and protein daily, but at the last minute (with the 24-hour urine sample test) the protein returned and my ob decided to deliver. I don't think there's anything you can do except rest, drink as much water as you can and try not to stress. Easier said than done! Good luck :). PS If your ob asks you to monitor protein at home I still have most of a box of test sticks you're welcome to.

I usually get my lenses from Daysoft in Jersey while I'm back in the UK and bring them over, but I'm running low. I know they're technically packed in liquid but does this count as liquid for S&S? They come flat-packed in a cardboard envelope.

I think Waha is still the cheaper option of the two if that'll be a consideration. A four-bed in Waha should be around 130k and Layan is - I believe - 150ish . Choithram's has just opened in Layan, which we are all super excited about! :D

I used to take Panadol night if I had to get up early and wasn't tired enough to drop off. I also used to have a battery of lavender-related sleep aids! Boots do a whole range of things like bath oils, pillow spray, plug-in diffusers and sleep balms and I used to use them all together. Hope you manage to get a good rest soon and your bad patch improves :(.

Thanks so much for all the info. Overall, do you think it's worth it? I must admit I've been a believer of the myth that it was a permanent solution! But if I have to keep going back, I'm not sure it's worth the weeks of walking around with facial foliage in between sessions when I could carry on threading and be fur-free, even if it grows back quicker :(.

We live in Waha and have done since last June. Here's my input; Our highest DEWA bill so far has been 2,600dhs in summer. Lowest has been around a thousand (both including housing fee). I've never seen the pool busy yet. Not so busy you can't enjoy it, anyway. No charge for the gym. I see empty villas as I walk the dogs but no signs outside for rent. Traffic is a pain on Umm Suqeim road but if you take Emirates road towards Jebel Ali and then take the turnoff as if you're going towards the Springs and the Greens, that takes you onto Sheikh Zayed just after the Media Rotana and it's much quicker. Overall, I love the amount of space we have in the villa and garden, but sometimes I do feel a bit far out. Usually when I'm on my way home from somewhere, both kids are shattered and yelling and we need to get back for nap time before they both crash out and refuse to nap when we get in! Or when I'm in a cab on the way home for a night out and start worrying I can't see straight and might get lost :D.

Yes, apparently it's a vanity thing to expect to be able to hear properly. Maybe they think ears are painted on! Ours doesn't cover vaccinations either :(. And DD had a consultation and procedure for a tongue tie when she was ten days old, which cost us 700dhs. We were told to pay and claim, so we paid and they denied the claim as it was 'congenital which manifested itself within a month of birth'. Thanks!

I'm getting my upper lip and chin lasered also. I am going to K med spa on Jumeirah Road, as they had a cobone offer just recently. I've been to them before for my underarms, and they are good. I didn't find it painful, but I did use the numbing cream about half hour before the treatment. HTH Thanks! Is it working so far? How many sessions did they say you'd need?

SweetLily, no need to apologise as I don't think there has been any confusion over the role of a doula. More likely, we have a reincarnated poster here who has an issue with doulas. Names can be changed but it's very hard to disguise your writing. Good luck to all of you wanting a successful VBAC :).

They don't just overbook from a business point of view, though. It's better for passengers too as they stand more of a chance of being able to fly on the date and flight they want. If the flight you want has 400 seats and they're all booked, even though chances are at least 30 or 40 passengers won't turn up and the flight'll depart with empty seats, you won't be able to book a ticket unless the airline overbooks. So the flight would go with a seat empty that you could have been in. I'm not defending the practice (I think I've moaned about airlines enough times on here!) but I do see why they do it and if they provide adequate compensation - and if it's voluntary - I think the benefits outweigh the downsides. But if it's not voluntary and the compensation's rubbish, then no, they can take a hike and provide the service you paid for! :D

Standard practice sadly. They did this to my parents last May- i paid approx 700 GBP to fly them here from gatwick. on the return they were bumped and flew into heathrow - then had to get a bus to gatwick. If I had booked them onto the original heathrow price it would have been much cheaper. The compensation they gave them? 200 dirhams each. 200 dh! Scandalous. I'd be getting onto Customer Affairs. Mum was booked LHR-DXB taking off at 5ish, and they switched her to the 10.30pm flight instead and for that she got a free return ticket. [email protected].

Overbooking happens because unfortunately some people book flights and quite simply don't turn up. If the airline had 400 seats and only sold 400 tickets, 50 no-shows would mean the plane taking off with 50 empty seats, even if there were another 50 people who'd wanted to book tickets for that flight. If they had 400 seats and knew 50 people probably wouldn't turn up, they could sell 450 tickets and then the 400 who did turn up would get to fly. It is so annoying if you're the unfortunate one who's bumped but they do try to find volunteers to be bumped before there's forced bumping. Mum got a call from Emirates a week before she was due to fly out here asking her if she'd take a later flight, and they gave her a free return flight from London to Dubai.

DD was an incredibly fussy baby from about 3 weeks until... oh, about last week! She's 15 weeks now. I found the only thing that actually made a difference was carrying her around in a sling. Not great for my back, but I'd take that over earache and through-the-roof stress levels any day. She just liked being held close. I did also notice she was far fussier when she was overtired, so having her nap in the sling meant when I did put her down for a nap she was happy to go to sleep instead of yelling through overtiredness.

My Dad worked on a contract basis a lot when I was younger and we lived abroad, and he was away for extended periods of time. Then when we moved back to the UK when I was 12, he worked in a lot of countries Mum didn't want to live in so we stayed in the UK and he would go for six or eight weeks and come back to us for a couple of weeks. As a result, I barely knew him. Until I had my children, I could count on one hand the number of times I'd actually felt properly close to him as a parent. Now I have my two little ones, I finally feel as if I have a relationship with him, and seeing him with them it's obvious how much he feels he missed out on our childhoods. Sadly, he's now seriously ill and I feel like I've missed out on a lifetime of a relationship with him that I won't ever have the chance to get back. Financially, Dad working away was good for our family and my parents are now comfortable because he did, but he has said recently how much he regrets being away from us.

DubaiCat do you mind if I ask how much you had to pay - interested to know given the terrible experience I had in the London maternity wards last time round. Each midwife visit was GBP25, then I paid GBP250 for some monitoring at the hospital and an appointment with the obstetrician. A friend who lived in Kuwait had an emergency C-section there last year and was sent a bill for just over GBP7,000. ETA: The leaflets I was given to establish entitlement said it was all based on residency, nothing else. I'll see if I can find the link to them online. <em>edited by DubaiCat on 14/02/2012</em>

I went home last summer in the middle of my pregnancy as my dad was ill, and we weren't sure if I would have to stay there for delivery. I had to register as a temporary patient at my local GP clinic then they booked me in for the birth at the obstetric unit in my nearest city. It was all very easy once I'd got in touch with the local community midwife. I had to repeat some of the tests I'd had done in Dubai, but mainly because I only had my ante-natal booklet and not copies of the test results. I did, however, have to pay for all the ante-natal care I had and would have had to pay for the birth if I'd stayed (I ended up coming back here because my dad got better). All the staff I saw were perfectly clear about it and made sure I'd completed the Overseas Visitor form with my payment details :). This was in North Somerset and the hospital was in Bristol.

DH got a call today from a Saudi number, with a guy on the phone claiming to be from Citibank collections department. He said DH had an outstanding balance with the bank and had to pay up immediately. We did indeed have a card with Citibank at one stage, but cleared it and closed the account in 2009. The guy called him on his work number and knew who he worked for, where in Dubai and what position he holds. He said he'd come to his office to get him to pay up. When DH told him he was barking up the wrong tree and hung up, the guy called back repeatedly, became abusive and even called him a 'motherf*****' at one point in the conversation! DH called the bank and they have no knowledge of who the caller could have been, so they're 'investigating'. So, if you have or had a credit card with Citibank and owe them money, don't send any to an obnoxious guy calling from a Saudi number :D.

Dr Elsa is very busy, but my experience with her is that once you're a patient she'll always do her best to fit you in when you need to see her and it's also much easier to get appointments once you're on her patient list.
