So Dad arrived last night, I called Marhaba beforehand to make sure they'd have a buggy for him. No problem, they said. Turns out they gave him a bl00dy wheelchair after all and no buggy. The very thing I was trying to avoid! Grrrr.

I have the Curve 9300 and I love it. Don't use half of its functions but I love that I can BBM for free! And you can also download WhatsApp for messaging friends who don't have BlackBerries. I have an Etisalat PAYG and it also works with my UK PAYG when I go home.

Definitely NKD for pizza - easily the speediest delivery in Dubai and great pizzas! British Tandoor at what was Defence Roundabout for curry (Brit-style) and Chimes for Thai. I was reasonably looking forward to my leftover stir-fry tonight but this thread's scuppered that!

DD was born three weeks ago and DS is 17 months. Anon is right - he hasn't really noticed! When he first came into the hospital to see us he was interested, and he's still interested, but apart from the odd peek into the crib (and the odd throwing of toys in her direction, or over-enthusiastic patting) he hasn't seemed to be that bothered. His behaviour, though, has most definitely deteriorated since she arrived! He totally ignores the word 'no' now, even more than before, and throws a tantrum if he doesn't get his own way. A few friends suggested getting him a toy baby to carry around, and for me to do the same so he got used to me having another 'baby' with me, but DD was early so we never got the chance.

Yet again, though, I'm mourning the loss of my favourite Christmas album. I always used to play it when I put the tree up and I took it home a few years ago, played it at Mum's for a couple of weeks and then took it up to my sister's on Christmas Day and it's never been seen since. In case anyone might have a copy, it's a Now! compilation but I think it must have been a Far East version as I got it in Singapore in about 2002/2003 and haven't ever been able to find any record of it online since. It's got Spice Girls, Britney Spears, John Denver, Kate Winslet and a load more on there. Here's hoping! :D

Thanks all :). I really need a good kick up the backside and lots of motivation and encouragement! Exercise-wise, I'm hoping to get back to doing the Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred as soon as my doctor gives me the go-ahead. I was just at the end of my first 30 days when I found out I was pregnant with #2, and I really noticed a big difference. It only takes half an hour each day which is a huge bonus for me, because I hate having to go out and exercise in the evening and love the way I feel when I get it over and done with in the morning, and of course with two little ones now leaving the house in the morning won't be possible. Here's hoping I can get back into all my size 10 clothes by May at the latest!

Depends entirely on how much you'll use it from the house - are you likely to go out walking much? If not, leave it in the car. Less hassle! It might also depend on whether your car's in the shade or not. If it's in the sun all day, might be an idea to bring it in so the heat won't damage anything.

My sister tells me I can start Slimming World while I'm breastfeeding and I'm hoping to be able to get back to exercising in a few weeks, once my doctor says I can. I want to lose 20kgs or thereabouts - how long should I give myself? I've never had this kind of weight to lose before so I'm not sure how much I can reasonably (and safely) expect to lose a week. I know DD is only three weeks old, I had a C-section and I'm breastfeeding but I am utterly, utterly sick of being either pregnant or just-had-a-baby-looking and I just want to get back to my normal self.

Not at all - it was most welcome. I think you got me in one with your last paragraph! I do tend to just 'cope', although I think this might make things harder in the long run because then everyone just expects me to get on with it. I am seeing a counsellor as well as taking the meds, so I'm hoping this will indeed nip it in the bud. She seems to be feeding more often today, but not filling up as much :(.

LOL, you are absolutely jumping the gun, just soothe her in the evening until she learns her days from nights, she def doesn't need formula. Why don't you try going to bed next to her for the next week and patting or feeding her back to sleep the second she stirs. You need the extra sleep too! Dubaimamans post is full of good advice too. You might be better not trying to stretch to 3 hourly feeding if she wants it sooner, since you do want to get as many calories in by day as possible and build a good supply, with BM many babies need to feed more often than that. I mean I'm trying to wake the lazy little toad up three-hourly if she hasn't woken anyway ;). Sometimes she goes four to five hours without feeding, usually in the middle of the night (which I am most definitely grateful for). I checked this with her doctor and she says it's OK, although I wasn't sure. Last night was totally different again. She was fine all evening, fed and settled, but wouldn't settle after I fed her at midnight. So I just lay her on my chest and patted her and in the end - 3.30am - she was properly asleep, with two feeds in between times. I know I'm overreacting and probably panicking about nothing, but extended sleep disruption and deprivation was a huge part of my PND with DS and I'm totally terrified of it happening this time round. I already have PND again, unfortunately, but this time I've been to the doctor and am now on medication so hopefully I'll start to feel better soon and then I'll be able to relax more about sleep and routines :(.

I well remember that from my crew days - they get wind of the fact that wheelchair passengers get through passport control quicker and all of a sudden, oh no! I can't walk! :D I'll stick with Marhaba, I think. I need the baggage porter anyway as my poor Dad has been roped into bringing us our new double buggy and there's no way he can lift that off the carousel!

So I sent the seller an SMS asking if I was doing something wrong, and that was why it wasn't working. She replied saying she'd had the same issue the last time she'd used it but switching it all off, then switching the baby unit on before the parent unit sorted it out. ?! I tried this and it still doesn't work. Now I'm thinking she knew it wasn't working when she sold it to me :\:.

Thank you all for the suggestions :). I really wanted to make sure we got off to a good start with a routine for this one - DS didn't have a proper routine for months and I don't think it helped him at all - but so far, so not so good! I tried putting her in our room with just the bathroom light on the other night, after giving her a bath, and all that happened was that DH or I had to keep running up the stairs to her as she wouldn't settle. But then I guess we're giving up too easily here, as I'm sure it takes more than a day to get her used to it. We probably need to start a proper routine in the evening and stick to it, even if it means sitting upstairs with her! She's feeding on demand at the moment, although I am trying to keep it to roughly three hourly, so her bedtime has been different every night. And when I say bedtime, because she's been so unsettled she generally ends up downstairs for the evening and then comes up to bed with us! So many people have suggested switching her to formula and I feel like I'm fighting the same old battles again :(. Even my sister, who fed all of hers and only weaned her youngest last month at a year old, said maybe a top-up with formula after her feed at 7ish might help. Has anyone found topping up with formula in the evening helps settle them? And she's only two and half weeks old. Am I expecting too much?! We had such an awful time with DS not sleeping, I'm worried I'm just overreacting.

Eeeeek, now you're asking :D. It was in the fabric section, down one of the side alleys off the main bit (if that makes sense!). If you're standing with your back to the ATM in the middle, it's on the left-hand side about halfway down one of the alleys. It was the only one we could find with vertical blinds and they were hanging outside the store. I'll see if I can find the receipt but I have a feeling I binned it last time I had a handbag clearout :(. PS You're not moving onto E street, are you? We saw a cleaning crew in one of the villas opposite us today ;).

Right on cue, after a feed at 7.30, no more sleeping baby :(. We pick her up, snuggle her, try a dummy... she nods off then something wakes her up! She wouldn't settle till gone 11 last night. With another good feed in the middle of all this. And if I try and feed her more often, she sucks but isn't feeding so I'm the dummy :(. She sleeps like a log during the day, pretty much all the time she isn't feeding. And we don't bath her regularly yet as she seems to hate it. Should we start?

We left our old table and chairs in our previous villa when we rented it out, thinking we'd buy a new set when we were settled, but we haven't got round to it and now my whole family are coming over for Christmas and New Year so we'll have nowhere to sit in the garden! I think I probably only had mine checked because we'd been trying a fair while and my doctor was being kind :). Levels are meant to double every 48 hours in the early days, so this can be a possible indicator of whether things are going in the right direction or not.

We found DS weaned himself off it at around 10 months. One night he only wanted about 30mls, so the next night I didn't offer it. Of course he woke up and wanted it! He had a full bottle that night then the next barely anything, and from then on he never woke up again.

What size villa are you moving to in Waha? If it's a four-bed, we got a vertical blind that works well for the family room, and only found one place that does them up there. It's great for when you want to run to the spare bathroom with no clothes on :D and lets more light in than curtains. DH said the window was too big for sheer curtains.

With my first I picked myself up off the bathroom floor, went back into the bedroom, flung the curtains open and woke him up with the test stick in my hand. With my second, I met him at the door with DS in one arm and the test in the other, bawling as DS was only 8 months old and we were most definitely not trying! :D

Just make sure when you say no to the furry disco balls and such-like, they do actually understand 'no'! We had blinds made and I was very clear that I didn't want the scalloped, fancy-schmancy bottoms. The blinds in my guest bedroom still have the scalloped, fancy-schmancy bottoms because I don't have the energy to take them back!

A bit of both - if she's in her crib she's upset then she calms for a while when we pick her up, but this doesn't last. She wants to suck but doesn't want to feed so I've been giving her a dummy, but she gets almost frantic in the end before she finally drops off :(.
