I do not know who you are referring to? I am not advising anything, other than to watch out for misdiagnosis as i was told that fungal infections are easy to assume when there is a rash ( that is by no means the rash you described)..my DD was misdiagnosed once with a fungal infection and was prescribed an anti fungal cream while she in fact did not..so if the redness does not disappear in a day or two, it might be a fungal infection and trip to the doc is necessary as I was told... Your post implies that the ER doctor didn't make a mistake when he told us DS's rash was normal nappy rash and gave us the wrong advice, as you're saying it can be easy to misdiagnose fungal infections. My response was my opinion on the reason for the ER doctor's misdiagnosis, i.e. he didn't bother to look at the rash properly and only actually looked at it when I asked him to.

I'd imagine it'd be a d@mn sight easier to diagnose if you looked at the rash for more than three seconds and actually paid attention to what the parents were telling you instead of taking a cursory glance - only when prompted - and advising a trip to the beach and Sudocrem. When we took DS to his regular paed the next morning it turned out if we'd followed the ER guy's advice and put Sudocrem on, we'd have made it a whole lot worse exactly because it's a barrier cream. It would have trapped all the fungal spores in underneath the cream in a warm, wet environment and they would have had a field day. The paed also said any rash that appears to be spreading is probably not your average nappy rash, as nappy rash should be localised to the perianal region. sydneygal, just try and let air get to it as much as possible before you get him to the dr and then see what he says. Hope the wee guy's OK!

If it's the teething necklaces you wear and they chew on there's a lady who advertises them on Dubizzle sometimes. Re the rash, is it spreading? DS had horrendous nappy rash that the ER doctor at City misdiagnosed (a whole other thread - grrr) and turned out to be a fungal infection. It started looking like regular nappy rash but then started spreading out to his legs, all up over his boy bits, down his bum cheeks, everywhere. The skin around his bum started blistering and peeling and was all wet and white, he had tiny red spots everywhere and he screamed and screamed when he had a wee or a poo or had his nappy changed. Have to run and feed Elin downstairs, will post again in a min xx

I had one at Talise at the Madinat an The Spa at the Intercontinental Festival City. While I love Talise overall, the bed was a bit small so I didn't feel that confident lying on it with a bump the size of a small island! The Intercon was lovely and a great massage to boot.

What a tough decision :(. I don't envy you. I just wanted to add in one more thing to think about. Probably not what you want to think about, but worth it to avoid issues later (and my apologies if I already mentioned this on a thread of yours, I can't remember what day it is or where I am right now). I had ante-natal care in the UK over the summer and my local trust made it very clear I had to pay for it, as I'm not resident in the UK. They were also very clear that if I delivered there, I'd receive a bill as an NHS patient paying privately. I'd never experienced this attitude before so I'm not sure if their guidelines or procedures have recently changed, but they gave me a booklet with details of who qualifies for free care and who doesn't. It may well be that as I'm not registered with any GP surgery any more it's more obvious I'm a non-resident? Obviously I don't know the ins and outs of your situation and your local trust may well have a different approach to mine but it's best to be prepared for every eventuality and not get a shock afterwards. A friend of mine went home to deliver and was sent a bill for her emergency C-section out of the blue - not what you need when you're recovering! My local NHS trust is North Somerset and I also dealt with consultants in Bristol, if that's any help.

when years later u still pronounce words (only whilst talking to DH) the way DS said them years ago...Toy tory instead of Toy Story and Lebalol instead on Lebanon. Words like these end up totally integrated into our family vocabulary, and we often forget they're not real words and use them in public! Strawberries and cream - stawbilies and peam Blueberries - bluebilies Stuffing - snuffing Grumpy - bumpy Crying - pying Vomit - ponk (don't ask!) ..and the list goes on. My Mum still remembers my brother being unable to say bulldozer and saying boozer instead - highly appropriate now - and using nost for wasp.

DS pinched one from the cafe downstairs :D. Less than a day old and on front covers already! ;) Elin is still down in NICU but her glucose levels have been much better, so hopefully we'll be able to have her back up with us tomorrow morning. I've been going down to feed her and she's been latching like a little gannet (apart from at 4pm when she'd clearly been taking lessons from her big brother in mealtime laziness!) so here's hoping this little hiccup won't stop us from establishing a great feeding routine as soon as we can.

When you go into the kitchen to check on a suspiciously quiet 10 month old to find her playing with your tupperware collection (awww) which is now covered almost entirely with poo (ewwww). Yesterday was a bad day... When you realise silence from the travel cot doesn't necessarily mean sleep - instead, it means the little ratbag has pulled the cot over to the sink and helped himself to your washbag which he has emptied all over the cot. And is playing with the disposable razor.

And just so everybody knows, AP has been the most amazing help these past few days and weeks and throughout pregnancy #2 and I can't wait to return the favour next year. But I still haven't managed to lay my hands on a copy of 7Days so I can see my famous little lady!

She has just been taken to SCBU as her blood glucose levels are far too low :(. The paediatrician has been very reassuring but I hate that they're going to put a tube in her tiny little hand and I can't be there to hold her :( and of course I'm panicking ridiculously even though they have been so reassuring :(.

Thank you all :). My BP was still high last night and I ended up with a load of protein in my urine again, so the decision was made to deliver this morning. And it was the weirdest experience of my life! Totally different to when DS was born last year in every way. Elin is fast asleep next to me at the moment and I can't stop staring at her. While I couldn't imagine this baby being a boy, I can't believe I have a daughter! It's just lovely :). DS came in to see his little sister at lunchtime and seemed genuinely pleased! He was interested in her, waved at her and pointed and it was so nice to see. And he didn't try to smack her one or lob things into the bassinet, which was a bonus :D. Here's hoping we can get some rest over the next few days before we go home as a family of four and I try to get myself to the point where I can actually leave the house again!

Nah if you don't have a pin you just sign for it. They look at you a bit funny, but they have the option to PIN or sign - no issue. I found it hit and miss in the UK over the summer. Most places were OK, one store the cashier had to ask her supervisor if she could swipe a card, at least three point-blank refused to take it without a PIN, and several asked for ID. I had to use it in the local hospital where I had ante-natal care and the lady in the finance office told me they didn't normally accept swipe cards. Uh, the only people likely to be paying are foreign tourists or expats visiting... or, in other words, those likely to have foreign cards! WTH?!

i had that at a local bank here, was in the branch asking when the card would be delivered etc, noticed that they had spelt the name wrong, told them no point in delivering it as i needed it spelt correctly as i was going to use in the uk where the card name needs to be right, they said wait until they have delivered it...duh! anyways as i needed it in a hurry (well thats what i told them i did but had added a few days to it because I knew this would happen), went to branch again and again eventually got the card but now needed the pin number, as the uk uses these, was told that would take time to come as would only be issued once i received the card, rubbish as i then got a pin number in the post for the original wrong card that was not received as they kept it at the branch and wasnt even activated!!!! and didnt get the correct pin for the correct card, in the end my hubs had to tell me it over the phone late!!! You managed to get a PIN to use with it?! DH: And my wife needs her PIN number so she can use her card in stores in the UK. They use chip and PIN. Bank: Sorry sir, we don't do PIN numbers. DH got me a card on his credit card account. The card arrived bearing my first name, with the wrong spelling, and my middle name as my surname. DH: Hi, you sent my wife's credit card and her name is wrong. Bank: No sir, this is the name she told us she wanted. DH: You never spoke to my wife, only to me, and I filled in a form with the correct name. Bank: No sir, this is the name your wife told us she wanted. DH: Thanks. I'm leaving for the UK that day, so I take it with me and figure I'll just try to use it anyway. I try to use it in a store and it's rejected. I call DH. He tells me he hasn't done anything about getting them to finally get my name right. As I'm on the phone, the doorbell goes and it's Aramex with my new card. They'd cancelled my old one and sent another one. First name correct, middle name as surname. Repeat of previous conversations. I get back to Dubai and end up having to go home again PDQ. DH calls the sales guy and almost deafens him. The day of my flight Aramex turn up, only after DH calls and deafens them as they say they can't deliver for three days even though the bank say they sent my card two days prior. Finally, I have a working card and the name's right. I try to use the card online at home after DH calls to notify them I'm going home for at least two months and will use the card in stores and online. They put a block on it for security purposes. AAAAAAARGH!

There are 2+study apartments and 3 beds in the Greens, so make sure they're being shown the 3 beds. From memory I think these ones have wardrobes in the third bedroom whereas the 2+study don't. Emaar told me ages ago the parking spaces depend on the square footage of the apartment. Over 1400sq ft or something like that gets two spaces (but you might need to double-check that with them, 800 EMAAR/36227) as I may be remembering wrong.

I got a parking fine once because I stupidly put the valid parking ticket underneath the expired one. The inspector was still there so I showed him both tickets. He shrugged his shoulders and told me to call the number on the ticket. I called the number, they told me to fax copies of the tickets, I faxed copies of the tickets, nothing happened and I had to pay the fine. So no, I'd say it's not wasting an hour of your life. Go get a pedicure or something - at least that's reasonably productive and you end up with nice toes.

It drove me up the wall :(. Do you have Shop 'n Ship? I know the UK stores might not have summer stock any more but it might be worth a look if they have any sale stuff left over. Or maybe some of the US stores? I think Destination Maternity in the US is way cheaper than over here. You're five months and you only gained 2kgs? Well, I was going to suggest some UK sites, but I might reconsider now out of jealousy... :D. I found lots of maternity vest tops and shorts on New Look's website and John Lewis have a range called Crave that had some nice shorts too. Red Herring at Debenhams do a small range, and there are sites such as Blooming Marvellous and JoJo Maman Bebe. And, of course, there's good old eBay! PS Poor DH? He's got man flu, he's not pregnant and looking at four months walking around in a bin bag. Get the violins out for him :D. <em>edited by DubaiCat on 30/10/2011</em>

I interviewed a British guy who runs a garage here for work, and he said you can get parts that are reliable and do the same as the original parts just as safely for much less. They're not the fake ones you get from China, but I can't for the life of me remember what they're called (and I'm not at home to check my notes). They're basically middle ground if you don't want to fork out for dealer parts but don't want the risk of fake parts. I heard about some Mc Gettigan bar in JLT, where and how it is? It's in the Bonnington Hotel and I like it! I had a couple of nights out there back in February (pre-bump) and it was lively, fun and relaxed. I have heard a few friends say it's been getting a bit rowdy since then, though.

Ace have a lovely christmas scene (well I thought it was lovely!) and I stood and looked at it for ages - reminded me of England and B&Q! It did make me start to miss things in England - cool Autumnal days, leaves changing colour, wearing cardigans and scarves, roast dinners (not the same in the heat). And yes I also bought Christmas decorations, my teenage sons have no interest in decorating the house any more so those of you with little ones - enjoy it! DS (17 months) absolutely adored it - DH got some cracking pictures of him in the trolley just staring up at it in amazement! I think our tree at home is going to get rather different treatment though ;o).

DS has what we call his 'cot pals' rather than one of those electronic things and he loves them. He does sometimes throw them all out of the cot but thankfully he's able to get to sleep without them so it's not too much of a problem, then I just sneak in and pop them back when he's asleep. His favourite is a soft cloth-type square with a bear in the middle. He absolutely stinks after a week or so and needs a go in the washing machine :D.

I am - my blood pressure was too high at the weekend so I had to come in for monitoring. We were worried we may have to deliver today or tomorrow but things look like they're stabilising so hopefully we'll be able to hang out till 37 weeks or more. Re the major life change, there's no sugar coating it. It is probably the single biggest change you'll have at this stage of your life (especially if you've had so long by yourselves and didn't think this would happen) but you learn to ride out the tough bits and enjoy the rest. I've found having a baby strengthens your relationship no end, but also causes some of the most bitter arguments you'll ever have. Thankfully along with the arguments comes some kind of understanding that it's likely stress or tiredness causing them, and you learn to forgive each other so quickly without even needing to try. And I so hear you about the balloon thing! It is so unbelievably wearing :(. But the end is in sight. My Mum left this morning and I am being a big baby about it. She's been doing a sterling job of looking after me this past week and it was just awful when she left :(.

I think they either have Saver or Flex and that's it when you book, but then within these two categories they have further sub-categories with price differences. We knew it would be 75GBP for the change but not that it'd be the extra 800dhs for a difference in fare. When I was pregnant with DS we ended up having to change her flight and it was just the 75GBP. Having said that, DS was three weeks early and arrived unexpectedly when Mum was here so perhaps we should have asked to pay the highest fare to start with so we knew we'd have more flexibility! I think she must be jinxed when it comes to me and pregnancy!

Christmas Day is 395dhs with booze included. Not a bad deal - we looked at eating out last Christmas in the UK and it was easily around 70 quid a head with no booze.

It wasn't the lowest fare but I think it was at least one category lower than the highest, so it was 75GBP for the change then 800dhs for the difference in fare. I asked if we could book an economy seat and use miles for an upgrade, as they were still selling business class seats, but no go. Thankfully my doctor thinks we can hold out at least another few days and Mum got to speak to her this morning, so she's been reassured and we can keep her up to date once she's home. Nothing you can do, as I said in my first post, and I know they're a business, but still :(.

I checked their website and according to their terms and conditions, they'll only waive charges for the death of a family member. Nice. Staying an extra day, as it stands right now, will likely mean she will know I'm safe and the baby's OK, rather than getting on a plane and wondering if we're both all right.

I love Rory but I have an ex by that name who DH would never tire of punching so that's out the window! I'm quite superstitious about names before they arrive :\: so the one 'maybe' is a secret but I am utterly stumped for others. We had two on our list when DS was born, and the other name was Aiden, but someone else close to DH used that in the summer so he doesn't want that now. I love Oliver but he doesn't, I like Ryan but he doesn't... aaaaargh! I do like George too, and Ethan and Euan, but he isn't keen on any of them. It better be a girl or there could be ructions! :D PS Nothing sorted with Mum's flight :(. Am just waiting to see what my doctor says this morning then we'll see what to do.
