My friend has been sent an invoice for GBP7,000 for her maternity care. I'm not sure yet if her DH's insurance is going to pay but I'll keep you posted. My sister spoke to our local GP surgery and I can register temporarily there when I go home in the summer, and see the midwife on a pay-per-visit basis. Luckily I'll now be here for the anomaly scan but I'll be in the UK for the 28-week GTT test, so I can either go to the local general hospital or a private hospital in Bristol for that. I'll have to pay and claim for both the midwife and the GTT testing. Hope this helps and I'll update when I hear if the insurance are paying the 7k.

Now this is where I'm in a pickle - I'm only 8 weeks and don't want to tempt fate! :D But then again, I don't want to waste money now... but then again, will DS be too big for a buggy by the time #2 turns up?! I thought I could get another Apple now and think about the Pear kit in November (although everyone says it's too heavy), or get another Apple now and sell it in November if I think I need a double then. Or, get another Apple now and carry #2 in the Baby Bjorn if DS wants the buggy. Decisions!

I spoke to them yesterday and they are going to replace it :). If I can't get another iCandy, they'll pay for a different buggy up to the value of the iCandy. The Apple is GBP450 in the UK - what's the betting it's over three grand here?!

I have a red one and no iCandy any more :(. BA smashed it up when we came home last week. I'm just trying to find out if iCandy will ship me a new Apple over here and if not I'll buy a different buggy - if I get a different buggy, you're welcome to the parasol (but you might need to find a new clip as DH managed to break ours). I'm just about to call iCandy now, so I'll post again when I've spoken to them.

I have an iCandy Apple and bought the travel bag for it (around 500dhs). BA still managed to smash up the stroller on our trip home just now and it's ruined. Maybe get the travel bag then get the whole thing wrapped in bubble wrap and plastic? That might do the trick!

We got married three years ago and had DS in June last year. In order for me to go on DH's visa, I had to get our UK marriage certificate attested by the UK authorities in Milton Keynes, the UAE embassy in London and the Ministry here. When we applied for DS's birth certificates and visa, we were also told our marriage certificate had to be attested. You still have time to do it before June if it's a UK marriage certificate. You can courier it to Milton Keynes and they'll send it on to the UAE embassy for you. I can't for the life of me remember the department it goes to in MK, though!

I need to get off my butt and Shred. However, I have converted another ShredHead - my sister is on day 8 level 1! She hasn't done any proper exercise in years and probably needs to lose 40kgs or more, and I'm so pleased she's so into it. She did a few days with me when she was here and downloaded it as soon as she got home. Yay for her! You must be going nuts. I hate that feeling when you think you're falling off the wagon :( and there's nothing you can do about it.

Absolutely - kit yourself out with as much information as you can lay your hands on so you can make an informed decision and don't end up in a panic with too much being thrown at you right at the last minute. Nobody wants to have to choose one option or another in the heat of the moment if they then feel like they don't have all the facts to hand. The one thing I would say, though, is don't get yourself too hung up on whichever way you want it beforehand so you end up disappointed if it doesn't go your way. I was all for as natural a birth as can be and my birth experience was anything but. While I only wanted my baby to be OK at the time, I think now I set myself up for failure by convincing myself it would be totally natural. Had I been a little more open to whatever might crop up on the day, I wouldn't have given up right when I needed to be strongest. It still upsets me now.

Absolutely wear what you feel comfortable in, my first preganancy was horrible and you wouldn't have caught me dead in a bikini or even partically dressed in the sun haha my second was totally different I had a great neat little bump and wore a bikini and felt good about it. Later in pregnancy its more about feeling comfortable so maybe an all in one would give your belly support or you might be luckly and not need any :) Do what you feel good about :) In really interested to see the comments about not wanting to see a bump in all its glory, I had no idea people were put off by it, I mean there are surely much worse things to be seen on the beach ;) lol edited by JShepherd on 11/04/2011 Oh, HALLELUIAH! My first pregnancy I was the size of a small condo and I hated, hated, hated the way I looked. I am hoping this time round I'm going to have one of those neat little bumps and reading your post gives me hope! Hurrah! I really don't get what's so distasteful about a bump. I honestly don't. To me, distasteful is butt cheeks hanging out the bottom of shorts; thongs; budgie smugglers; that kind of thing. Not the most natural thing in the world.

Gutted. I got all excited when it rained for all of five minutes over Springs 1 last night, then gave up and went to bed at 11. It then proceeded to thunder and lightning for AGES, so DS wouldn't go back to sleep, water began pouring under the front door, the dogs went nuts and DH snored through it all. There better be a serious rainstorm this evening to make up for it.

A friend of mine left the UK about 18 months ago (I think - it could be closer to two years) and has lived in the Gulf since then. She went home at about 32 weeks pregnant and gave birth there at the end of last year. While the local NHS health authority accepted her registration and allowed her to deliver, they did say she'd have to pay for it and they are currently in the process of invoicing her for her emergency C-section. I'm afraid I don't know how much the bill is but I'll try and find out for you. She did say her DH's insurance policy here were going to cover it so I'd check that out if I were you. Private maternity facilities seem to depend on where you live; we checked it out for my sister in the Bristol/Somerset area and they were practically non-existent, unless she wanted to pay privately for NHS facilities which was pretty pointless for her situation :(. You might have more luck if you're closer to London for proper private healthcare. I actually need to look into this for myself as I worked out last night I'll be in the UK over the summer and right when we're due our 20-week anomaly scan. I think we can book it as a private appointment at our local NHS maternity unit, but I'll let you know what I find out.

And my point still stands, life is about risk, driving down Emirates road poses a greater risk to life, shall we not drive on Emirates road. The points i have tried to make have not been taken up or understood, horses competing in sport have accidents and death is a real risk, this one event has been hyped by the media to IMHO an unreasonable level. I have not belittled but have asked genuine questions of those who have made statements, if anyone wants to join the band wagon of deeming that as rude so be it, i care not. This is so typical of the posters on EW, bandwagons away mentality, the poster who did ask very sound questions was in fact MB, who knows i have nothing personal against her at all but on this topic will disagree with her views and push her to justify her statements made. As for a jockey in critical condition, every time you get on a horse you risk death or injury, as a NH jockey or even flat you know the risks, it is of course sad and we hope he recovers with Gods speed but there was a similar incident this year here at Meydan, where was the fuss and sympathy then? edited by Sticky Wicket on 10/04/2011 Yes, we get it. Resorting to belittling those of us who hold different views to your own doesn't help your argument. You're perfectly entitled to your opinion, but equating greater safety for horses and riders with the 'PC brigade' wanting to ruin it for the 'country folk' is just ridiculous. I'm about as far from PC as you can get. Yes, the media play up the deaths and injuries. It's not news otherwise, although it certainly doesn't help rational discussion. But the facts remain; two horses died, one jockey has been critically injured. The race faces the same criticism year after year. Is it really necessary?

No, go away rain. Its really hot and sunny in England and rainy in Dubai. That must be a first LOL I know - it poured for the last few days we were in the UK last week and then the day we left the sun came out, and I get back here and it pours again. But for some reason I love the rain over here!

I won't bother editing my last post to save confusion. I just looked at images of one of the falls, and it is carnage. One horse broke its back and the other broke its neck. Is that really, seriously necessary for the excitement of the race? Honestly? And there's a jockey in hospital with serious head injuries. At least he had the capability to understand the risks and make a choice as to whether to race or not, not that that'll make his family feel any better.

You said jumps like Becher's Brook 'made' the Grand National (with apologies if I haven't used the exact words) and from that, I understand you mean the excitement of the risk makes the race stand out from others. Therefore, 'it's not the Grand National if there isn't a considerable risk of killing your horse' isn't far off the mark, no? I'm not against racing per se. I just don't see why the jumps have to be made so difficult horses end up dying trying to get over them.
