So the old boy has finally gone home and peace is restored Chez DC. The lady thanked me for picking him up and looking after him, and apologised for him spewing all over my car. Day 9 level 1 done at lunchtime. I'm 8 and a half months post-baby and I haven't changed since DS was 8 weeks old :(. I could squeeze (and when I say squeeze I don't mean muffin top, I mean full cake-top) into my skinny jeans and they're not much different now. Having said that, I t[i'>hink [/i'> I'm starting to see things change around the mid-section and I'm not sure but my legs [i'>might [/i'> be getting a bit more toned... As I missed three days, should I extend my Shred and maybe do another couple of days of level 1 or should I beast myself with level 2 as punishment after the 10 days of level 1 is up?

When you think of all the hard work and dedication put in by the ground staff at the club getting the conditions perfect then he goes and creates a mini water hazard on the green, what if someone elses ball had landed there for example? That's actually a really good point. I'd imagine it'd be slightly sticky, so it might prevent another player's ball from moving as far forward as it might have otherwise done had the gob not been there. I shall ask a R&A referee friend of mine for his expert opinion.

I just got The Call. There is currently some confusion over when the dog went missing, as the owner is convinced she fed him on Friday morning. So I am not holding my breath. I will, however, have to hold it at least until around 1pm tomorrow, which is when she is apparently coming over to pick him up. Refraining from further comment...

I'm drowning in baby barf today. DS is on medication for glue ear and I think it'll need changing - that's the fourth night in a row he's upchucked his entire dinner after having it. I just talked to the lady again (and apologised!) and she's going over to make sure the owners have my number now. She gave it to the maid before but as yet they haven't called.

I've been trying to work out the logistics of an old boy in a one bed 2nd story flat when I work all the hours in a different Emirate! Good work DC! Sounds like the logistics of three big dogs, two cats and one baby in a Springs 4E! :D

We had a good chat once I realised I probably sounded like a grumpy old cow so hopefully she will do the needful :D. But I have her number so if I haven't heard from the owners by tomorrow, I'll give her a call back. Thanks again, SamD. That sounds like a plan. I have the address (well, I was told it, I just need to remember the villa number). I might just dig out one of the camping canvases, just in case! I'm going to try to Tippex his address onto the inside of his collar in case he scarpers again. How much is a microchip?

I think I might have offended the lady who called, though, so let's hope she does actually notify the owners :\:. It's been a madhouse here today, topped off by my two rolling in poo while I was attending to DS (d@mn those sodding owners who don't pick up after their dogs) and I think I might have moaned about the runaway dog barfing in my car a little too much! Bless her, I was just so relieved someone had called I probably just vented. SW, I ain't driving nowhere with that mutt in my car again and I sure as h3ll ain't driving it in DH's! One bill for valeting is more than enough. They can pick him up :D. Anyway, the saga continues - as yet I haven't had a call from the owners...

Don't worry, it may not be needed after all! I just got a call from a lovely lady who says she knows the owners, and it seems the plucky old gent is known for making a run for it. So, I'm just waiting for the call from them. I shall keep you posted! And thanks again to all for your help.

Yes, but I don't know where it'll get you. Aldo did the same last DSF - I really wanted a pair of boots I'd seen in there for 850dhs and I was over the moon when I saw the big yellow sale signs in there. I found the boots, started celebrating to myself then realised they'd marked them up to 1200dhs and then 'down' to 850dhs in the 'sale'. I emailed that consumer rights thing and never heard anything more. Grrr. Do it - the more people who complain the more likely they are to clamp down on it.

I know, it's so frustrating. He must be somebody's! I got hold of Xpress this morning so hopefully they'll run a story this week, I called round all the vets on SueB's list, I called the municipality, and I'm waiting for a couple of places to call me back to see if they can squeeze him in until we find somewhere more permanent for him as it really isn't working having him here. DH has just gone to Saudi and then Abu Dhabi so I'm on my own all week, and he barks at our cats, our dogs are on edge and it's too much for me on my own. On the car front, mine is sitting in the driveway still full of dog sick! I haven't been able to even think about sorting it out and I have DH's car to use till Wednesday when he's back from Saudi and goes straight to Abu Dhabi. I'll do it at the weekend. There are a couple of suggestions on my other thread, though - I'll find you a link now.

They're for totally different purposes. We found the Bumbo was handy when DS first started on solids, but we couldn't use it much beyond six months as he could almost get himself out of it. So it was useful, but only for a short time. He's had his Jumperoo since he was about four months and still loves it now at eight and a half months. He didn't really 'get' it to start with but now he bounces around in there having a great time. He's been crawling for a while and stands up by himself (holding onto furniture) but still loves a good bounce.

Can recommend the Anantara, Veli, Maldives. Book the over water bungalow. About 20mins approx boat journey from the airport. Big sturdy lux boat so no worries there. You will be fine and enjoy the sights. Nothing short of absol amazing. Couldn't fault a thing! Yes, yes, yes. It's the most amazing place I have ever been in my life and I want to go back.

When I go home to Mum's I drive past a house where a young girl was murdered a few years ago. It sends shivers down my spine every time I drive past and I often wonder how anyone could live there knowing what had happened there. But then, my Mum's house is haunted and I won't sleep on the top floor so you can probably ignore my post :D.

Thanks for searching, much appreciated :). Somebody further down the thread said she saw two girls with him outside the mall, but they just left him outside not tethered so I'm not sure if they were dumping him or maybe just found him walking along (or he found them and tagged along) and had a play with him before they went into the mall. I'm going to look at finding a better foster home for him tomorrow so he can have more time to find his family or find a new one. ETA: I was really hoping he had a chip so if he had been dumped and we could contact the owners, I could tear them a new one. <em>edited by DubaiCat on 12/02/2011</em>

I guess so. For us, having a family that includes pets is normal but for others, it's not. I just don't get why people get animals only to kick them out when a baby comes along. Sure, if you didn't plan to ever have kids it might require a bit of readjustment, but if you knew all along you'd have a human family as well as a furry one then I just don't get it.

He didn't fight our younger dog, he tried it on with him and took exception to being refused :D. Just a little power struggle but our boy is frightened of the broom/the pram/people standing behind him/any number of other ridiculous things so now he's scared of him. But he definitely hates cats, that's for sure. I spoke to K9 just after I found him and then again when I'd been to the vet's to see about the chip, so I'll call again tomorrow and email over a picture of him. I need to work out how to make a poster on a Mac, though! All the ones I did today were handmade in a hurry. His collar's not new, it's worn-in leather, but a nice one. And he was definitely well-fed not long before he turned up at Ibn Battuta on Thursday morning (thank goodness DH is going to Saudi so I can have his car till I get mine cleaned!). I know he's never going to be top of anyone's adoption list :(. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed that someone claims him, as he seems so sad and confused. Like he's been a happy, fat old sod in someone's home and now the rug has been pulled out from under his feet. This is me getting too soppy about an old mutt and you're right, I should be thinking more of practicalities. Should have left the bumbling old canine codger wandering round the mall!

I checked the inside of his collar - nothing doing :(. If you think they're never going to run in a panic, great. I'm not going to waste time arguing with you on that one. I'm happy for you. He's definitely not an import, unless any pet shops have taken to bringing in portly senior citizens of the Al Heinz 57 breed ;). His face looks like a desert dog and he himself probably looked like one until he got his middle-age spread, but his tail looks like a husky. He's a lovely old thing and seems utterly bewildered, poor old dear. He's on Dubizzle, I've done posters down by Ibn Battuta, I'm going to make a start on the vets tomorrow and talk to Xpress. I know people find dogs every day, but not strolling around shopping malls so I'm hoping that'll be enough of a hook for a story! Oh, and I'm going to call the municipality vet tomorrow too, but I'm not banking on that one as he doesn't have a chip. What's the nearest vet to Ibn Battuta? I'll start with that one. And I guess it might be worth trying to look for his chip again. I know one of ours has moved right under his shoulder and it took the vet a while to find it last time he was there. And yep, this old boy is neutered.

Yep, I'd say the dog's owner is irresponsible. No chip is ridiculous, especially over here, and no tag is bordering on lunacy. But seriously, your dogs wouldn't go missing because they're trained? I'd like to see how trained they were if something frightened the bejesus out of them and they took off. If you're so sure, save yourself the expense of chipping, collar and tags ;). I think I'll go with the rehoming option if his owners aren't found. And like I said earlier, maybe there aren't any posters yet because the owners are away and the maid a) is too petrified to tell anyone she's lost the dog or b) hasn't read SueB's list of what to do when you lose your dog. PS He does have a collar on. A nice black leather one :). Not much help to me in finding his owners, though,

Yikes, I would be fizzing! I don't generally lend my car to people - not because I'm precious about it at all, but because I have a fair few years' no claims so I get a decent discount on my insurance premiums. I don't want a situation where I end up paying more because someone else dinged it. It'd be too awkward. But if someone had used it without my knowledge and damaged it, yes, I'd be furious.

orchard, did you have the spotting after going to the loo? Sorry for the TMI question :) but I had this at around five or six weeks and it was caused by straining to go to the loo (and I had horrendous constipation in my first trimester). Hope everything is OK.

My insurance fully covers drivers over the age of 25 and those aged 23-25 have to pay a greater excess, so it would be worth checking your policy. If he's made a point of excluding you, then make a point of excluding him from your car!

I think he speaks English, because he gets 'come here' and 'sit' but he's not terribly obedient! Thanks, aroha. No good news, I'm afraid. And there's no way we'll be adopting the old boy, sadly. He hates our cats, they hate him and this is causing mayhem in the night when he barks at them and tried to chase them; he had a go at our younger dog who is now terrified of him; and Casa DC is full to the brim! I went and asked at Al Muntazah villas this morning and left them a poster, and at the Jebel Ali club, and I'll do Garden View villas tomorrow. Not so much as a sniff of anyone claiming him so far :(. I feel so sorry for him - he's clearly missing home.

That's what I thought - he's fat and he was fed yesterday morning before I found him, because he threw up his breakfast all over my car and it was definitely dog food he threw up! I'll give Raghad a call, thanks :). K9 haven't had anyone report him missing yet.

A gentle little nudge for anyone who might know who his owners are... ...and does anyone fancy fostering?! He hates our cats and DH is having a tantrum about having him here. He's on K9's waiting list so I'll call them back when they're open and see if they can take him, and Posh Paws are full.
