Hi DubaiCat - perhaps you spent more than me on your order and that's why you were charged duty? To be honest, I was expecting a customs bill with my delivery, but was pleasantly surprised when delivery guy said that there were no charges.. so, I naturally didn't question him any further!!! It was just the Bee, so around 2400dhs.

I couldn't get it either but I called RERA - 04 2221112 - and they told me over the phone in no time at all.

We hired someone who was already here and it took DH a couple of hours at the immigration place. That was it so far - next week we have to do her medical and finalise everything so no doubt it'll be a bit more effort, but so far so easy :).

BellaUK mentioned the old JAV ones on another thread, but I haven't done anything about trying to find out yet :(. Let's see what muppet features comes back with and if he's going to be awkward we might take a look at Al Muntazah. If there are any available, that is!

Super, thanks! Just what I was looking for :). I also managed to get through to RERA and the average rental for a 4-bed in Waha is apparently 110-120k - lower than what we're paying - so he can whistle for it.

I have a cheque come out of my account every month. I'd say six or seven times in the last two years Mashreq have bounced it because 'the signature is different'. Same amount, same beneficiary, same date, and I've had the same signature for years. They don't call me to check I wrote the cheque, they just bounce it and leave me to deal with it. Maybe that's what's happened with your tenants? Might be worth asking a friend here to pop over there and discuss it with them, or maybe give them a call? Then you can work out whether you need to be the bad guy or you can sort it out without the police.

I didn't want to say we were definitely staying as at the time we were looking at moving to Jebel Ali, but the waiting list for the Garden View Villas is as long as my arm :(. Anyway, I called the rent committee this morning. They told me to call RERA and ask them what the average rent for our area is, as if it's way below the average he can raise the rent even though we've only been here a year! So I've been calling RERA since then and nobody's picking up the phone. Am just off to see if I can find the rental index online before I start trekking all the way to Deira on Sunday. Oh, the joys of living here. A friend mentioned this morning how these bully-boy landlord tactics would make a great story and the more I think about it, the more I think it would. We often hear how some places lack a community feel, and nobody knows their neighbours. No bl00dy wonder when we all have to up sticks and move every flamin' year!

Ho hum, here we are again. We rented direct from Dubai Properties last June, so we didn't have to deal with a private landlord. DP promptly gave 'our' villa to a private landlord in exchange for something else he'd bought that now isn't being built. So far, so bad. We emailed his secretary last month to ask if he was willing to renew the tenancy. She emailed back today saying yes, he is. If we pay more. We currently pay 130k in four cheques. He wants 135k for one cheque or 140k for two cheques. So, instead of a nice leisurely day with the little people tomorrow, I'll be down at the rent committee. Gotta love renting in this place. The absolute irony of it all is that we own a villa in Springs that we rent out, and I don't think we could have been better landlords this year (without blowing our own trumpets). Karma needs a kick up the backside!

I was sitting next to a woman on an EK flight in business class (dh's company buy the tickets, not that I am trying to qualify this of course).. Anyway, she spent the entire time using her bare feet to change the channels, stretching out her toes to press the right button on the Telly! I didn't say anything, but tutted quite a lot and she got the message! ok, that is major laziness or plain stupidity. lol I'd call it talented if she got the channel she wanted! :D

Dc have you checked that you actually need a prescription, many meds, normally only available by prescription in our home countries, can be bought OTC. My son takes ADHD meds and I can just buy it over the counter whereas you would need a script anywhere else. A GP should be able to help if not. Best of luck! Sadly yes, it's on the controlled meds list :(. I've emailed my GP but I got a call from the psychiatrist's receptionist about half an hour ago telling me she'll call me back tomorrow to let me know if there's a prescription waiting for me or not. I'll go to the GP if not :).

I hear you. I went to the pool for the first time in ages the other day. I don't have any full suits or tankinis, so I had to wear my pre-babies bikini. A little girl already in the pool pointed at me and said loudly, "Look, big belly." And repeated it several times over.

Uh, that wasn't both barrels. And if you note, I posted before a sympathetic post and the OP said all of my suggestions couldn't be implemented for one reason or another. I'm not against having a whinge without any plan to fix said problem - I do it often enough - but at least make it clear that is what you are doing. Uh, a little sarcastic there, perhaps?! Apologies, I didn't pay attention to who wrote your first post. I'm in Al Waha, from the UK and a SAHM with two little ones. Always up for a cup of tea and a communal whinge (and I know plenty of others in the same boat!).

There are no Bee's available currently due to a flaw in bearing manufacture between Jan 2011 ans Sept 2011, so they are sorting that out first. http://www.bugaboo.com/328 I ordered a limited edition soft pink one from www.babycare.nl about two weeks ago and they just emailed me yesterday to say they've received the buggy so will be shipping it soon. It better be a new one! :(

Notheragain, it seems to me you are just making excuses. Classes too early in the morning, wouldn't trust anyone else to look after DD, husband too busy/won't help, etc. You need to compromise in some area or have a serious chat with your husband and make some time for yourself. Otherwise, you are just whinging ... Uh, a bit harsh, perhaps? Sometimes it's hard to see the wood from the trees if you've got yourself into a bit of a fug. A bit of sympathy wouldn't go amiss before you let rip with both barrels!

When you say near AR, are you in Waha or Layan? I agree with JoyceB - it doesn't count as babysitting when it's your own child. It's called parenting and it's a 24/7/365 job, like it or not. He gets adult conversation, tea and loo breaks whenever he wants them, time to take five minutes and breathe. You, on the other hand, have a small person totally dependent on you ALL DAY. As in, not 8-5 or whatever he works. ALL DAY. Unless you do it yourself, there's no way you can understand just how mentally draining this is. I adore my children and I am eternally grateful that I get to spend these precious days with them but boy, are they hard work. If my DH even dared to compare his work day with mine I'd punch him square in the face.

DS was induced due to pre-eclampsia. I'm probably not the best person to give you advice as I had an epidural, so I spent most of my labour relaxing in bed chatting to my doula :), but even before I had the epidural it was OK and DS was born naturally (well, with the help of suction and a pair of scissors). I think the best thing to do is focus on getting baby out safely and making sure you're safe, and that's all. I got far too worked up about what I did and didn't want, to the point where it ended up having a totally negative impact on me, so just remember that keeping you and baby safe is the ONLY important thing on the day. Or, you could focus on what colour Bugaboo you're getting and working out on what else you can spend the money you saved buying it in the Netherlands! :D :D

Oh my, you could be describing me a year ago! DS was EXACTLY the same. After the first couple of months he started sleeping great at night, feeding once or maybe twice, then the wheels came off at four months bang on. Then we went to four wake-ups being a good night and a bad night with me banging my head against the wall when he woke up for the 15th time. I was a walking zombie. And daytime naps weren't any better - I'd be pacing the floor rocking and shushing him, or walking endlessly around jiggling the buggy! I can totally see why sleep deprivation is used as a form of torture. I know it's a challenge for you at the moment but when DD is better and you're back on track, you won't know yourself once she starts sleeping better.

We worked with Cecile when DS was seven months so not far off your LO one now, and it only took two days - by the third day he was happily going in his cot and nodding off by himself. I know every baby's different, but two weeks does seem like a long time. Having said that, it's so hard to catch the tired signs! It's been mentally draining trying to catch DD's (I have been absolutely determined not to let us get into the state we got into with DS) especially with DS running riot while I'm trying to watch her. If she's ill, I'd abandon it until she's 100% better. None of us like to do anything that requires effort when we're under the weather!
