No I wouldn't take our maid to court if she didn't comply but I like the fact that we have something down in writing which she has signed. If she doesn't 'remember' us agreeing upon something we have this document to refer back to and she has been made aware that if she goes against it she will be fired and can be taken to court.

Wow how simple do you need things to be written out for you. Yes the labour contract is the most important. If anything conflicts between a private contract and the labour contract then the labour contract will take precedent. BUT a private contract does have legal value here and you can be taken to civil court if you do not abide by a contract you have signed. This from experience.

A signed private agreement still has legal value in a civil court. If you feel comfortable having something writing that you both sign do it. Nope - Labour contract with maid will take precedent. The whole point of a private agreement is to include what is not in the labour contract for example if you agree a certain time the maid will be home by. It has nothing to do with precedent over the labour contract actually.

A signed private agreement still has legal value in a civil court. If you feel comfortable having something writing that you both sign do it. It does, but be careful not to "agree" on things you might want to change yourself later, because then your good intentions may be turned against you. I would just stick to the UAE contract. Then, separately, draw up a list of chores, duties, do's and don'ts. Discuss it with her and tell her those are the things you expect from her. If she doesn't do them, remind her every time! If you find you need to change things, do so, and draw up a new list. There is a post about this on the maids thread by the way. We drew up a personal contract based on the basics already mentioned in the labour contract plus whatever else was important to us. We didnt put anything in that that we would want to change in the future and if we did we mentioned that it was subject to change.

They have a great selection and good prices but that's where the positives stop. They wash their hands from all responsibility after you pay and tell you you have to deal with their agents. I bought several Whirlpool appliances (whose agent here is Al Ghandi) as well as a Samsung. They promised a delivery date let's say of Jan 20 (it wasn't a rush, it was later that the original date they had proposed). Come Jan 20 nobody showed up, except the appliance installation guy, but I had no appliances! After several calls to C4 customer service I kept being told all they could do was email the agent. After several calls to the agent I was told they would deliver but they were unsure when. Al Ghandi eventually delivered one day late and Samsung two days late. Then Al Ghandi wouldn't send the installation guy back because they were unsure whether I had requested installation from C4. After a lot of fighting over the phone they came 2 days later and installed. Since I had purchased several big Whirlpool appliances they gave me a microwave as a gift. Today, less than 3 weeks later the microwave just died. I called their service line to be told that a) I have to take the microwave to their workshop in Ras al Khor and b) I have to pay for parts and labor because since the microwave was a gift there is no proof of purchase. Great isn't it? Long story short, I learned the hard way that it is always best to buy appliances from a vendor who also handles delivery and after sales service, hence I would not recommend that anybody buys any major appliances from the likes of C4. Save yourselves the trouble and money; assuming I need to pay 200-300 aed to get the microwave oven fixed I would have been better off just buying one and having service included. I'm crossing my fingers I don't have to deal with any of the aforementioned companies ever again..... If you get problems with items it can sometimes be a pain if you've purchased through a distributer. We usually get everything direct from the manufacturer and they will sometimes match a price. For example we purchased a LG fridge from LG direct. It was cheaper at C4 and they matched it.

My baby has loose stools and the doc has advised soy formula; he is eight months old. I cannot find soy formula stage 2 anywhere but just the one from birth. Can I use it for my baby? Tx Why has he recommended soy formula? Is the loose stools chronic or is he currently un well? Have you tried foods that could help firm up his stools such as bananas, rice, breads, pastas, potatoes?

Hey Suzzi, the treatments are not very expensive. After the consultation only, the doctor gives the number of sessions your skin, hair or body will take. :-) 4000 dhs is not expensive?

I've never had an issue and if I've moved jobs I've got a new one lined up within maybe a few weeks at most. I have found it much easier to get a job out here than back home. I've never worked 12 hours a day or 6 days a week. What is it you ladies are looking for in a job that you find it difficult? I have found ladies on husband visa's get jobs pretty quickly as it saves much time and money for the employer.

That's perfectly normal. [b'>Most apartment buildings will request you do not store or leave items in the public areas, such as hallways, stairwell [/b'>etc. It's a hazard to people using those areas, people can block exit areas, especially fire exits. Not saying you would, but others quite possibly will. We're not allowed to do this in our apartment block, and I also have a pushchair and kids bikes. I just have to fold my pushchair up and store when not using the best I can. The bikes, I just have to leave near the door. We had a fire alarm in our building a few weeks ago and it was so annoying dodging past all the things people had left in the fire escape. Some people think its a bike shed.

1. Don’t eat/drink too close to when you go to sleep 2. Many people sleep better after a hot bath/shower s try that before 3. Like a baby give yourself ‘downtime’ by getting into pj’s, using the loo, dimming the lights and having a herbal tea or warm milk with a book. This way your preparing for bed time. 4. If you do wake up at night try not to turn on the lights or become too active. 5. Try a 30 minute exercise routine everyday. It may tire you out more. I’m currently doing the davina work out :D

We have a King Koil Triumph 200 x 200. It may have been renamed as ours is quite old....about 12 years actually. We did get it re-sprung about 3 years ago (for free under the warranty). We love our bed and cannot stand to be away as we want to get home to our lovely bed. You can ask them if the Triumph got re-branded. Thanks a lot I'll do that! If its the same mattress I agree it's super comfy.

Just been to King Koil. We need a 200 x 200 mattress. There were two we really liked. The first one was the Emirates Palace mattress which was really reasonable for around 5k. The other one was not labelled as a hotel mattress. It was their most expensive/popular mattress at 10k. Does anyone have experience on any one of these mattresses? Any good? We were told by their SZR branch that their agents sell the same mattresses for cheaper but he only knew of one in Jumeirah 1. Does anyone know where this shop is located in J1? Thanks!

Colic Aid and Infacol is also available here in pharmacies. I never had luck with any of these things though. After I burp DS I now put him on his tummy and gently rub his back. Even if hes already burped this usually gets another one out.

I should have been a bit more clear that I wasnt asking a question about guidelines. I was asking a question to the mums who have fed their babies at 5.5 months. To those ladies thank you for all your advise! Today he had a whole mashed avacado and then his full 5 ounce bottle on top. Weve always known hes a hungry baby but seeing how happy he is in the afternoon after his meal and milk is priceless! I just wanted to make sure he wasnt have too much. I guess quite some pear got left behind in the blender and some was also played with by DS so it may have been less than two WHOLE pears. Thanks again!

All babies are different DCC, there isn't any 'right' amount. My first baby had no solids at 5 1/2 months, the next two had varying amounts at that time. They are generally pretty good at letting you know, if they don't want it they'll spit it out. Thanks Daza. He never seems full up i guess because hes taking digested formula (neocate). His Ped has been at me for introducing solids since 4 months but I didnt till now. Pear was of choice because its the lest acidic fruit so it shouldn't aggravate his reflux. I was very surprised he was so hungry for it. He was opening his mouth wide and coming forward for each spoon!

DS has roughly 4-5 ounces 7 times a day. Today I gave him some solids. I pureed two medium pears with 30ml of his milk. I thought hed only have a tablespoon but he had all of it and then had a 4 ounce bottle on top! He then ate again as normal 3 hours later. Is that too much? He wasnt force fed and he has a gag reflex so he would have gagged it out if he didnt want it. How much solids do babies have at 5 and half months age?

Hi there, Sorry your going through this. I remember the student years and managing debt it was just horrible and very frustrating. If your in a desperate situation the first thing to do would be to sell valuables that you can do without. I know nobody likes to sell their jewellery etc but these things are all commodities sitting around for a potential rainy day. There must be things in your lifestyle that you could cut to save more money. Me and DH calculated how much we spend eating out and ordering in per month and we were horrified! Speak to the banks you owe money to (meet with them not over the phone) and try to negotiate a lower interest rate/monthly charge. The fact that your willing to pay your debts back rather than run away shows your clear intentions and the banks hopefully will be able to help you out somewhat. Do you have family who could also help you financially? Its a last resort but if there is someone willing to help I would take that over getting in trouble with authorities here. Where are you living right now? I would recommend completely downsizing to somewhere budget till you are completely debt free. I know its all about the image here in Dubai but nobody knows what peoples personal situations are. Who cares. If you need to leave that fancy house and move to the sticks so be it. Your doing it to protect your future. I wouldn't recommend moving jobs just yet. You need financial security and you have that through your current jobs. I'd recommend doing the above, getting somewhat settled on manageable monthly payments and then sourcing a new job. Best of luck xo

Hi there! It's all still the same unfortunately. We're taking turns between me and Dh looking after him because its just getting too tough at night now. The pharmacist saw the state of us yday and recommended a antihistamine that has a mild sedative to help him sleep. Reluctantly we tried it at the small dose advised and it did nothing! Argh! I threw away the drops this morning.

With the long weekend coming up looking for nice weekend away..we have two little girls (4 and7) so must be child-friendly..also don't mind driving up to Abu dhabi or another emirate..just a nice relaxing time with the family needed ;-) Suggestions? Do you have the new entertainer book? The National were doing an offer. If you get their 1 year subscription for 300 dhs you get the book for free. It comes with a golden book with hotel offers as well. For AD I'd recommend Shangri la and Westin. For Ajman Kempinski. For RAK Hilton Resort and Spa and for Fujeirah Fujeirah Resort and Spa. I'm not sure if the Yas waterworld has opened up but if it has Yas Island may be fun as well.

Following on from my previous thread I'm trying to help some friends relocate here. They're on a budget of around 95k for a 2 bed plus study/maids. The lake shore towers look massive but all the ad's are totally different in price. What is the expected rental for 2 bed plus maids in lake shore tower in 2/3 cheques? Am I right to think its 90-95k? Thanks!
