The LR3 or even better yet the LR4 is great for this. The middle row has 3 full seats so you can fit 3 car seats/boosters side by side without a problem, and the 3rd row has 2 full seats that an adult can sit comfortably in (rather than having their knees under their chin).

Love it so much that I sold the old one and upgraded to the new one :D My only issues are: - Its not heavy in comparison to other "travel systems", but when you are pregnant or have just given birth it can feel heavy to lift in and out of the car (as opposed to an umbrella stroller). - Its quite big and takes up a lot of space in your trunk. If you have a 4x4 or a big saloon then its not a problem, but if you have a 7 seater then you can't fit it in with all 7 seats open. My DD loves it too. She gets to see the world from up high. The pros: - The new model released in 2010 fixed all the other issues I had and now its a breeze to use. The material/covering of the seat etc is also easy to take off, wash and put back on. - I can push it with one hand when I need to (something you can't do with a two handle stroller). - You can use it from birth with the maxi cosi cabrio car seat. This is heaven as you don't wake baby up and they are snug and cosy in their seat. Don't bother with the carrycot. My DD outgrew it in 2 months unless you will be out for more than 2 hours every day with your LO. Just make sure you get hooks to attach to the handle bar so you can hang anything that doesn't fit in the shopping bag underneath. Good luck!

Thanks JShepherd and granola! That's the vibe I'm getting about Medcare these days too. I was there the other day and was sent from one desk to another because noone listened to my question - they just heard one word and assumed I was asking about one thing or another. Thanks a million!

What I hate most is when they full up the car, then they add just a tiny bit more fuel to make sure it comes up to 92 or 93 instead of 95, giving themselves a 2 or 3dhs tip. I would give the guy even more if he fills up my car to a whole number (i.e. 95 or 100 so I don't have to deal with coins)! DH usually drives off without giving them a tip, or giving them just 1 dhs when they try to give themselves 3dhs:\:

Thanks so much Shelly for your post :D My doctor has told me that a lot of her patients are choosing International Modern Hospital these days and they are happy. She delivers there too but that is not one of my first two choices. My DH asked me to check out City for DD2 because he had reservations about Medcare. He broke his leg after DD1 was born and he got cared for by both Medcare and City. On the day, Medcare x-rayed his foot but not high enough on the shin to see if there were other broker bones. He came home with supposedly 2 fractures around his ankle. 3 weeks later at the follow-up x-ray with City, they x-rayed correctly and found a third broken bone:\: He knows broken bones and babies are 2 different things but wanted me to ask around and consider City this time round :) He also loved the facilities! I should go for a tour of City then! If anyone else has any stories for or against I am all ears!

I second the Stokke. Its so high up my LO loves watching people, feels like part of the crowd (and not the legs) and its just so practical! You can get it in Just Kidding as SuzieMom said, or if you are travelling to Europe then get it from there (much cheaper!).

DxbMe - DH drives to Emaar Sq and back on a secret way, but you need a 4x4. ;) i am too scared to do it :D Pls tell me Miss B, I am so sick of driving home the long way from the Mall. I second the request! I pick up my LO from nursery at noon during my lunch hour and its SUCH a pain to drive the long way around I am always in a hurry:( I just got a 4x4 and tried to go dune bashing but didn't find any secret passages as of yet! And also I am sick of paying 16 dhs a day in Salik!

Why would Emaar want to be such a pain??!!! I also noticed that there is zero work being done. I thought maybe the RTA wanted to make some money before the main road between Business Bay and Downtown openned up. I am so annoyed I will make sure to email them a complaint asap. Thanks for the info!!!

I did a bit of research on this and you can stop sterilising once the child is mobile and picking stuff up off the floor, etc. However, you should always sterlise bottles (and more specifically teats).

I know this is a little late but I know for a fact that maids lend out money to friends at very high interest rates. So some of them will take an interest-free loan from you to go lend it out to their friends at 5% interest per month if not more. Unless there is a very strong reason for you to give out a loan to your maid, knowing the reasons and being able to assess whether she really needs it, I wouldn't recommend it. HTH

Hi Can anyone recommend a good paediatrician at Medcare Hospital? Dr. Ayman saw my DD when she was born but I wasn't impressed. Her current paediatrician moved to the other side of town and Medcare is across the road. I did a search here and read good reviews of a Dr. Ahmed but not sure if its the same Dr. Ahmed who is now consulting at Medcare or another one? ETA: Also, any recommendations for paediatricians at City Hospital? Thanks!!! edited by DubaiMaman on 15/03/2011

Aaah getting heavier by the minute! And these days all I want to do is prepare for the baby! Wishing I wasn't stuck at the office:( tiktok, for the hospital bag, nope not prepared yet! But even with DD1 I got that prepared the night before my due date :\: Honestly I don't know what to pack even though this is the second time around. For starters: - super comfy pj's. In my case, I made hubby go home to get me pjs as I hated lying around in a night gown - slippers - toiletries - hairdryer: didn't get one the first time but again made hubby go back for it as I had a c-section and needed to shower - helped that I looked good and well brushed when friends came to visit and when my mom took pics of me and baby - camera!!! - maternity briefs and bra - coming home clothes (very comfy pregnancy clothes as you are still wobbly and look about 7 months pregnant) - baby's coming home clothes - baby onesies/pjs/ etc - baby cotton hat - baby blankets: get two as babies spit up and you want a clean one when you go home And whatever gets you comfy. It really depends on how long you will be there for. Hospital will usually provide diapers for baby, etc. twin butterfly, all you really need depends on you. IMHO the minimum is: - onesies/underwears/pjs: make sure you have enough as you may be changing baby twice a day. It depends on how often you are able to do laundry. With my first I had about 15 onesies simply because I had no maid and couldn't do the laundry often enough - but about 8-10 of each will do. - little baby hats (2), blankets (2), gloves so they don't scratch themselves - tiny baby nail clippers are a must (babyshop has a clipper with a magnifying glass:p got it coz I remember having to squint really hard when cutting DD's nails!) - in terms of toileteries, your choice for the brands but choose something that is suitable for newborns (Mustela or the like as Johnson's is too rough on their skin). You will use very little of it so a bottle of shampoo/body wash is more than enough and 1 bottle of baby oil. - You will also need something like sudocrem in case of a rash (but if you clean tiny tush with water everytime then they shouldn't get any rashes). - Cotton (something that will not tear apart too easily and get stuck on the skin, to clean baby's tush). - soft towel for after the bath and small towels to dry their tush after nappy changes. - bottles if you are not planning on breastfeeding, or planning on doing both. If memory serves me right, they have 6 bottles of forumla a day (could be 7 or 8 the first while until they get on a routine). If you will give the bottle, then a microwave steriliser will make life easier than boiling and even easier than electric sterilisers. - muslins so you are not all soaked if baby spits up. I used to put muslins on the top part of the moses basket so I would change those instead of changing the whole sheet everytime it got dirty. That's all I can really think about! Good luck everyone!

If you have a DU connection it should be a simple plug and play (as in no configuration of the internet connection, just the home network is needed). If you have Etisalat, specially e-life, then you have to do quite a bit of configuration (username and password to get access to the internet, independent of your home network). We have the etisalat e-life, with a linksys router on top of it to create a home network. Our flat is 2500 sq ft and the router's wifi does not reach all the corners of the appartment, so we've put in an Apple Airport Xpress on top of it to extend the network. I'm sure you will need to do that in a 2 story villa. If I could go back in time to when we got the Linksys (which is great), I would just get 2 Apple Airports because they are simply WOW!

CW, supposedly it's not advisable to increase the whole size as its not hygienic. I read this in a report but can't remember where - something to do with the silicone not being properly sealed and getting milk / etc stuck in the whole. In terms of when you should increase the size for your DS, it really depends on your DS. Mine was textbook - she was trying to suck on the bottle so hard to get more milk and it was frustrating her. So to transition, just make sure that your DS is not frantically hungry the first time so he is able to recognize there is more milk with every draw. He might choke a little but they get the hang of it pretty quickly. HTH

How old is your nephew? My DD got too scared from an action scene at the very beginning of a 3D movie (the character jumped out at/from the screen) that she wouldn't wear them all through the movie! She's only 2 though so she didn't mind the blurriness...You can still watch the movie without 3D - they always have it in both 2D and 3D (although 2D will probably be a smaller screen).

It doesn't matter where you buy your iPhone from, Apple gives you a 1 year warranty in all cases (from the day you register your iPhone on iTunes). But I imagine as this is the iphone 3 it must by more than 1 year old? In all cases, send it with someone to the UK or a country that has a proper apple store (not UAE). They can replace it for you for a small fee. DH cracked the back of his phone, paid £25 and got a brand new back.

Its true the official law here is 45 days of maternity leave with an additional 30 mins + 30 mins off of work for the first year to breastfeed (like you can get home, do that and come back to work within 30 mins!). My company gives us 12 weeks off and I can take the total 1 hour anytime I want (add it to my lunch or go home early for example). If you work in the DIFC, then 12 weeks is the norm. It really depends on the company as international companies will give 12 weeks and local companies might be more inclined to give the minimum. edited by DubaiMaman on 08/02/2011

Hi MandyM I also use a cordless handset and it works great, without the need for a VPN. I have the Linksys one (I think Linksys and Philips are the best in terms of functionality and have used both). However, the base of my cordless is connected to my Linksys router, which is then plugged into my Etisalat e-life. I think that is why I have never had any issues (the Linksys router acts like a firewall and has all the connectivity set up to get through the e-life router). I know others who haven't put a wifi router on top of their etisalat one sometimes have problems connecting. Good Luck! ps. Got ours in the UK, couldn't find it here. ETA there is only one Linksys model when it comes to cordless/no pc connectivity. edited by DubaiMaman on 08/02/2011

Debenhams sells Silent Night mattresses (and they usually have a 25% discount whenver there is a sale so check it out now with the DSF still on). Or you can go to another Silent Night shop (I think its their proper showroom) on the road that passes by Karama from Al Maktoum bridge to Sheikh Zayed Road. It is the most comfortable thing in the world!

I mixed the color I wanted (obviously from a pallette they had) at a shop on Umm Suqueim Road, on the Barsha side (its on the same side as Marina Furniture, opposite the petrol station that has Lulu supermarket behind it). They had a big variety of colors and there was one that they didn't have but I had gotten from another shop that sells Jotun, and they still mixed it for me. Its all computerized. Check out the colors they have online and maybe you can take the reference of the color you want from there? Also, Jotun there was cheaper than Jotun in Ace. Am hoping to do the same once I settle on DD's room! But just one wall in hot pink and the rest in very light pink:) Good luck! and let me know where you find some!

I booked my maid her ticket on Cathay Pacific using DH's card, because he was going to drop her off at the airport and I knew he would go to the check-in with her just to make sure all was ok (first time flying out of Dubai). They asked to see tyhe credit card. For the way back, I didn't give her a copy and just assumed that it would be ok since she already completed the first flight of the return ticket. They didn't ask her for any proof, just as they never ask me for proof when I travel back here on an e-ticket. They only ever check the cc when you take the first flight out. HTH

Stokke Xplory!!! The best one ever! Although I don't travel with it as it gets too cumbersome. Check it out online. If you are going to be travelling, buy it from home (much cheaper). Otherwise they sell it here in Just Kidding for around AED 5 or 6000 for the simple seat one. the maxi cosi cabrio also fits on it with adapters for when baby is under 6 months old.

If you are sure the flight isn't full and you are able to carry a car seat around with you, then do so! My LO was strapped in her maxi cosi the entire flight unless I was feeding or changing her. They just snuggle in it and sleep so peacefully, and you can go to the bathroom or take a nap yourself without worrying about them (obviously let the flight attendants know that you're going to the bathroom so they can stand by!). I just hung the carseat on a small rollaway suitcase to get through the airport, and LO was in a carrier strapped to me. I put the changing bag in the rollaway suitcase so I could take it out on the flight to use. The maxi cosi cabrio is also certified to be used on airplanes during take-off, landing and turbulence (which not all flight attendants are aware of as I have found). And its much safer than putting baby in a bassinet. As others said, blanket (one is enough, and you can use the airline one if it gets too dirty), spare clothes and diapers. I always account for 1 diaper per 1 hour from the minute I leave the house until I reach the house/hotel on the other end. Little ones can make a mess and they usually "go" several times a day. One thing someone once mentioned in a blog which has been such good advice: put all the baby stuff in a handbag or changing bag, but keep a little bag (or changing mat that has pockets and turns into a small bag) with just 2 diapers, a change of clothes (minimum that you would need to get the baby out of the bathroom without them getting cold - so underwear and a pj), wipes etc. Before you take baby to change them, you just make sure you have 2 diapers in the small bag without needing to take a whole changing bag with you everytime. Good luck! They usually sleep the whole flight so don't worry about it. The doctor will let you know how best to treat the congestion.

go to choithrams and buy a duncan hines packet mix for pineapple and a tin of pineapple and some brown sugar. It will be ready in 30 mins. Btw the sugar will be absorbed into your blood really slowly since the high amount of fat will slow it down........that is why ice cream does not affect my blood sugar, too cold and contains fat, an apple on the otherhand will send it over 200 Thanks! Have never seen duncan hines? will need to open my eyes a little more!

I used these kits to AVOID pregnancy and got pregnant! I used Clear Blue. You can't use ovulation kits to avoid pregnancy. The only thing the kit tells you is which 2 days you are most fertile (48 hours around ovulation). But you can still get pregnant 3, 4 and 5 days before ovulation as the guys will hang out in your uterus waiting for their lady friend;) I used the Boots one and it cost around 250-280 dhs, can't remember exactly. Clearblue is available in the pharmacies (just don't go into a small Boots as they will usually only carry Boots branded products). From memory, Clear Blue was more expensive than the Boots one.
