I cought 5 mins of it recently and can't for the life of me remember what day it was or time (risk sounding stupid, but reckon it was on CNN channel). He was interviewing George Clooney and his dad on that day. Don't know if that helps anyone remember :s

i'm on DU, don't know if its the best deal now, i gave up trying after waiting 4 months to get my hands on one i just took whatever. Etisalat was always sold out. I now have one, finally and can't believe how awesome this phone is. Go get it!! I think my plan is called 100. I pay 100dhs and get 100 international and national minutes, 100 international and national texts, 100mb data (but i'm always on wifi anyway). I love the phone! <em>edited by Dxb.Fairy on 26/01/2011</em>

I really loved the mama-mio stuff, easy for you too. You can order and deliever within the UK. Is she near London at all? because I really recommend 'the sanctuary' spa in Covent Garden. Its young, hip, relaxing and you leave feeling out of this world.

Modern Dry Cleaners and Laundry - LOL @ modern. God knows where they are based, dude comes to my door once a week. Will have a look at the plastic wrapper thingy when this weeks load is due back. Sure wont be using them again. But have to say, in fairness, it's the first time this has happened in 6 months of using them.

3000dhs isn't that much, really its ok. You'll be ok in a while when you realise the amount. If it was 30,000dhs then sure be mad. I don't have a maid so probably not wise for me to comment as I'm sure its hard and frustrating. But pay, get it fixed, tell her off for being so careless - you have every right to be mad. edited - sorry I don't mean 3000 isn't a lot of money, i mean from what you say the damage is, it seems ok. <em>edited by Dxb.Fairy on 26/01/2011</em>

ok, done, all bedding out in sunshine, all bed sheets being washed right now at super high temp - was just curious on the two different types of bites, so odd. no point contacted the dry cleaners right.

How do you know what bites you. Never in all of my Dubai life have I got bitten, not by a mozzy, ant, bug you name it, i've been safe. Short story - i have crazy mad itchy like a doggy bites on my leg. Not swollen, just flat and itch. hubby has bites too, but completely different to mine. His are bumps, itch, swollen and red. He has it on his neck and his forarm. what on earth is going on? two different insects?? I have a link though, it all started 2 days ago when my duvet that I sent off for cleaning came back. It came back lush but something must have happened at the dry cleaners?? anyway ideas please, checked the bed, nothing, no sign of bed bugs. What else shall I investigate?

haha - there you go, we learn something. I should have made the thread title - Britons convert to Islam in 1000's LOL i'm sure it would have got more hits. Anyway, yeah just a small point as I get a bit of a knot in my stomach with so much negative posts and opinions on EW on their culture, religion, locals etc I keep thinking 'oh my gosh' I hope the Muslim EW members don't think we all think like that.

This is a really thoughtful post, really! I'd never have thought too much about any links with vitamins. I have a question too. Where do you get this tests done? is at the doctors? I cover up alllllll the time. I notice when I don't, my darn freckles on my arms go really dark - almost brown. I hate it so I cover up. And I'm always having problem with some joint. Either my arms, hands, feet, just seem to spending a fortune on physio and it could all be down to Vit D. Thanks for the info.

I guess I can only say that I pay my physiotherapist around 500 dhrm an hour. So I think thats £85. I have no idea what goes to the clinic etc but thought i'd offer my two pence worth. Lots of western physiothrapists here though, not sure on demand for such jobs.

maybe this needs a new post lol. But anyway from classified i've got two examples. Are these ok and legal? gosh, i'm so confused, never looked into house help before so had no interest and now not sure what is ok and what isn't. eg 1. Looking for LIVE-OUT nanny/housemaid in Arabian Ranches We're a young South African family looking to employ someone who's energetic, friendly and who has experience in the UAE to take care of our 6 month old baby boy while we're at work. Unfortunately our home is too small to be able to offer accommodation, but we are happy to provide sponsorship, annual flight, travel allowance as well as other benefits. eg 2. Full time live out house maid required for a French family in Dubai Requirements: Looking after a new born baby Cleaning duties and ironing Must have references from past employer Age: 30 to 50 Fluent in English Must be honest, reliable, trustworthy with high attention Start immediately Package: Competitive salary Sponsorship if needed, but having already your own visa is preferred. 2 days off a week 4 weeks holidays per year Ticket to home country once every two years

yeah of course I should clarify - only looking for legal 'live out' maids. So either one employed by an agency (the issue i've had with cleaning agency is I can't get one that can send me the same person) I have a question too actually, there is an add in classified (posted yesterday), I didn't hear back from the lady when I asked so not sure of the answer but here you go anyway. If say, as this lady was in the advert - sponsored by her husband, she lives with her husband too but is looking for a maid job.....is that ok? So i,e someone to come work for you a few hours a day. What do you all make of that. Is that ok?

Bump for this, i found this old thread while doing a search for the same exact thing to see if there were any answers. I'm in a dilemma too. I'm off work due to being ill and wont be fully recovered for a while yet. I really need house help as I can't move. I'd like a 'live out' maid too, It would be for a few months at least so like you JS i'd really prefer the same person. I have been using a cleaning agency and its bit hard as its different people and by the time i've explained everything I'm worn out again. No interest in hiring a live in maid, so if anyone can help with info on this i'd like that. Maybe even point me in the right direction of what I should be searching for. Tried classified, its all live in at the moment. big big thanks.

We're all from different places so you'll get lots of info and opinions. Like I lived near Epsom and worked 'IN' Epsom and hated it. Yet the posts here are pro Epsom. I hated it because I was bored out of my mind. It didn't suit me or my partner and that might be because we are young and Epsom seemed more 'mature'. But was very pretty and schools are good etc etc. I lived in North London too and loved it. I lived in a very nice suburb (Cockfosters) but it is quite expensive. My sisters 4 bedroom cost her £500,000 but its only 10 mins from the Tube. I used to rent a 2 bedroom flat and it was a 1930's build so quite big and it cost me £1100 a month. Schools in this area are very good, the tube is great (25 mins into Kings Cross) and the most important bit - it's soooo safe! you actually don't feel like you are in London. Alas, my big bold 'Birmingham' print. I loved Birmingham, again lived in the suburb so was about 25 min commute to the city. But its so alive, the houses are huge compared to what you get for your money. City Centre has everything and more. Jobs are good, schools are good. But again, it suited us and our needs are/were probably different to yours. Hope that helps, I personally would probably never move permanantly back to the UK but I wish you good luck :)

LOL - I get the holding hands - yes its nice, seeing other people hold hands looks nice too. Its quite romantic. anything else though - get a darn room or get me a bucket! About hugs - i'm sure common sense has part to play. Like I think its fine at the airport. But just standing in line at the shop - errr prob not, rightly so.

glad i haven't had lunch yet, pda...one of my pet peeves and it don't matter where. you can hold hands, its not culturally wrong, nor is it really pda. I'm sure most people don't mind and its ok. just keep everything else for some place else. Really, nobody needs to see you kiss, you love each other blah blah so what. And I can never understand how oblivious you can be to other people. Surely while you're ''busy''.....even if its a bar.....you can't not know you're in someone elses face?? Don't get it. Oh and something has gone wrong - saw two topless sun bathers at the beach too (this was a while a few months ago) IF thats not for attention, or done on purpose I don't know what is. Nobody is that ignorent. Are they?

True, i never either. No matter how big or little the 'story' Never thought about it. And I'm not old, i'm very young but I think in these few years of the new generation things have changed. Whereas i'd never have thought to tell mum about the pervert in my park (even though nothing happend, the dude was just a perve) I'd be horrified if my daughter didn't tell me. Times change and have changed.

sigh - the joys of living in an appartment. My neighbours leave their front door open when they cook. I think they think they are not expats, but rather on some strange extended holiday camp. I hate it, causing smells is as bad as any other problems in my opinion. So I hear you. Just email the management, offer the solution, tell them to just give him an extension wire and that should solve the problem. Good luck.

They usually just need your phone number and you can put your current address. Then when you move, just call reception and update. Its very straight forward and millions years a head of the hassle of NHS. You'll see when you start using the system, you can't believe how helpful and easy it is. Daunting at first - sure. But count your lucky stars. Good luck.

No questions in particular other then the usual - name, address etc But you are very far a long now so they will/should fit you in asap. Where are you coming from? Because take a long all your records for your pregnancy. Your scans, maternity health pack (if its the UK - that folder you get from Bounty) etc. Then the nurse/doc at your first visit will photocopy and go through everything. I can recommend the American (its where I went)- all 3 obny/gyn docs are amazing so I'd say just go with whoever can fit you in. The other Hospital that many recommend is City.

think it happens everywhere in all fields all over the world. Except in these cases - you don't have to actually waste your time and stress over the interview - hahah. Imagine going for a PR job in Hollywood - oh dear. But keep looking as to date, i've never (3 jobs down the line) have had to show a picture. I saw lots of ad's for these stupid requests and ignored them. Good luck - chin up and just apply for jobs that don't ask for pics. This experiment may just waste your time and make you feel de-motivated.

My experience - Allianz covered everything from day one - no 12 month waiting period. My new card reads Neoron though so not sure if they've changed their name - should check. American Hospital - was brill. Oh and if you want to consider their 'package' you wont need insurence, just buy the package. I've heard good things about city though, but never been so can't comment.
