Searched this forum as well as stores in Dubai and cannot find these. Wondering if any of you ladies have been successful in purchasing this locally or had to buy them online. I am looking for these salts to cure meat which will be cooked later. Are you asking about the Himalayan salt or the mountain salts? Not Himalayan, mountain or rock salt. Looking for salt which Di@DXB mentioned - Saltpeter or Prague powder #1 or #2. These salts contain nitrates and nitrites which kill bacteria.

We bought 2 rabbits from spinneys (motor city) this weekend (friday). They were not frozen but were skinned. Think the name was Lapin or Lapain - french brand. Each rabbit was cut in half and gutted. Wish it was not halved and one whole piece.

We have only use Urban Tails at DIP. Our babies love them. We have 3 dogs and 2 cats and I would never every dream of leaving them home alone with a stranger (pet sitter). It's healthy for dogs and cats to socialize with other paw babies. There are lots of kennels and catteries who keep you updated via email with pics plus the reputable places have vets who will come at the drop of a hat should there be a medical emergency. My belief is if I am going on holiday, I want my babies to have a holiday too and leaving them home (familiar surrounding) without us can be even more depressing for them, plus there is no guarantee the pet sitter is really genuine but at reputable kennels and catteries you know qualified professionals are busy keeping your babies happy and safe. As for the costing, don't take on more then you can swallow even though you are compassionate.

I would suggest talking to your neighbors. Yes I know your mentioned you cant bring your self to go and speak to them but most dog parents are understanding. Since you've mentioned these dogs are not 24x7 outside dogs hence I feel the neighbors will understand. It could be the maid who is letting them out and not monitoring them. Either way, the dogs (without me even knowing them) are not horrible, they are just dogs and will bark at things unless their handler / parent quietens them. So just speak to the owners and all should be ok.

Unfortunately they can if your LL complains to them and show's them that you are in breach of contract. You can speak to your LL to give you some more time till you find another home for your self, hopefully he will understand. It's happened in the past to an ex neighbor of ours in the ranches and sadly they had to relocate to another villa.

Been sitting with a small packet of quinoa since the past month. Decided to try it out yesterday after reading Singarosa's prep method and added a little salt for flavoring. Was hesitant as I have read it would be bitter but have to admit I've become a fan. Made a little and mixed it with a salad, but I could have eaten it just plain.

I believe that a dog should choose you and it should never be the other way around. Congrats! The moment she enters your home, let the training begin :) 6month pups are ready to learn. Treat her every time she poops outside and ignore every time she poops inside. Visit kikopup on youtube with loads of +R training videos. For training, fixed length leads are good, I am not a fan of the retractable leads, but helps with other sorts of training exercises. But since you have bought it, just keep it to a fixed length. Oh and remember, lots of treats in your pockets for all good and desired behavior. Have fun with your little puppy.... :)

We adopted feral kittens to a home of 3 highly active dogs (GSD, Saluki x GSD and another Saluki mix). The saluki crosses took to the kitties very fast but the GSD took a good year to play gentle with the kitties. Hounds can peacefully get along with other animals. It all depends on you and other family members and not the animals. I would suggest you introduce the cat and pup first outside your home, then let the pup visit your home for a couple of hours with the cat home and slowly increase the hours. This way at least your cat will realize that the pup is only visiting and would not look to it as a threat. Pups need work, socialization and training are key factors in any well behaved dogs life and it starts at an early age. Your lucky to be taking home a 6 month pup as pups are fast learners and it will be a cake walk. You can always put up baby gates in your home in the initial stages if required. Dogs and cats can become best friends if the handlers work with them. You can always take the help of a behaviorist if needed. No dog is bad or aggressive, irresponsible humans make them that way.

Use diluted neem oil and spray on the plants. You can also use garlic and soap water. Blend the garlic cloves in water then add some dish washing liquid and spray on the soil and leaves, do it every week till all the bugs have gone. Currently I am using this solution to fight leaf miners on my leafy vegetables and it's working. You can also plant marigolds as they are repellents to various insects that prey on leaves.

Underground??! :\: We had an infestation last year (january) and called in 3 pest control companies to help, there was no nest on the trees but there were too many holes on the ground / lawn. Turns out that the hornets (orange colour and yellow jackets) were eating the june bug larvae. Some of them nest underground too because of food.

If you cannot find the hornets nest above ground (on trees or hanging anywhere else) check the garden for any holes, that is an indicator that they could be underground as their food source is there. If underground then call Dubai municipality as they are the only authorized people who will spray an insecticide (toxic) for free. You would have to call them twice and they will happily come in. For ants in the garden, once every 2 weeks soapy water on the law keeps them controlled.

Dogs that are bored, left alone tend to bark this way. He could also just be barking because he sensed or heard a person's voice from outside the villa compound. Could be lots of reasons. I would suggest you speak to the owners and inform them personally, this way you get to meet the dog and see for yourself. I would avoid going to security as it just don't feel right.

So sorry for what is happening right now but if I were in your shoes, I would sell my jewelry, so I can lodge a RC complaint, against my landlord, as he failed to handover a property in a livable condition, not doing any maintenance (breach of contract) and causing emotional trauma. The RC can help by blocking any payments to the LL by issuing a letter to the police so you may cancel / block cheques. You need to go to the Rent Committee to sort this out and by doing so you can end up saving money and may just as well get some money back from your greedy LL. Please inform them of the agent you have been dealing with as such agents need to be reported. All the best and hugs!!!

As long as the contract is registered with Ejari, there is not worries. Renewed my visa twice this way (Tenancy contract under my name always) with out any glitches. Just make sure the marriage certificate is attested by the necessary depts / govt and all will be fine.

Neem oil is great for hornets / wasps / bugs. It works slowly as it effects them hormonally which stops them from breeding, eating and laying eggs. It is non toxic to humans, animals and plants, only insects are controlled with it's use. You would need to spray your outdoor area once every week in the beginning month and then every 2 weeks for at least 2 to 3 months till you see the population decrease and after that once every month is fine. Last year we had an infestation of yellow jackets (wasps) and we treated our entire garden this way. Also helped with the june bugs that were eating the roots of our plants and lawn. You can buy neem oil from the dubai garden center.

I was going to ask this today. Are there any butchers in Dubai? Not the fancy Prime Gourmet ones but proper Arabic ones. I used to go to a few in Sharjah who did the marinaded lamb chunks and made the beef mince in front of you, for dirt cheap, but I cannot face the drive down there. Anyone knows somewhere in Dubai I can find this type of place? Deira fish market make the mince in front of you also. You select your cut and they mince it.

Aside from the usual grocery shops is there anywhere to buy meat in bulk? We buy all our meat in bulk (over 100 kg's per month) as we feed our 5 pets a raw diet. We go to the wholesalers at Deira fish market. I make it a point to call them a day in advance and let them know what I want (only for lamb and beef as I buy frozen chicken boxes) and the next day, I make them cut, clean and weight it in front of me. Been doing this for the last 2 years now and I am very satisfied with them plus the amount of money I save. I generally keep a tiny bit of all the meats for our personal use. Spend less then aed 2.7K per month on total purchase. The more you buy the cheaper it is.

HorizonMum2 - I happen to know the family is question. They had a lavish wedding last year in dubai and husband started a company the same time. Honestly, if they truly loved their pets, they would have sacrificed and lived in any other cheaper emirate to keep them safe. I know many who are doing so in this crazy dubai rental market now. There are many concerned animal lovers who have approached this family and these people are of the belief there is something weird cooking up.... The family are asking the public for AED 55K for a legal battle when they themselves were unresponsive to the kennel managements various forms of correspondence. When asked if they visited their dogs at the kennel ever, there has been no response. I still stand by what I had posted in the beginning, Doggies Palace needs to be shut down as one cannot condone the killing of 4 dogs when there were other alternatives.

100% fault lies with the owner and they should not be condoned for their action. From what I understand, the husband started a business last year and is struggling, but with any new business set up, there is always going to be that difficult patch and one must always have a backup in savings. They did not want to rehome the dogs even though they were financially in crisis and could not pay the kennel bills. Now this to me is simply being selfish. No dog should ever be housed in a kennel for more then 2 to 3 months. These guys have kept them there since march this year. If one truly loved their dogs, they would move to other emirates where accommodation is cheaper (and there are alot of pet owners who do so) and they would never have let their dogs suffer this way. An animal rescue organization introduced them to this kennel with a discounted rate. Personally, I think these guys are trying the blame game for their own negligence. On the other hand the kennel is a nightmare to any animal. This place has really horrifying reviews and needs to be shut down immediately. The owner however should take legal action on the couple and recover his money but otherwise should be banned from any animal related actives or business in the future.

I feel truly sorry for the 4 dogs who lost their lives in the name of money. While I do not support the owners for lack of payment I do however do not support Doggies Palace for their action. This kennel houses rescue dogs at a discounted rate. I know of 2 prominent rescue organizations who use this place, so, instead of ending lives, why did they not contact these rescue organizations in rehoming these dogs? They could have then taken legal action against the owners for non payment. I have mentioned it in the past on EW that this place harbors animal abusers. I have a rescue who lived with them for close to a year before finding freedom. She came to us aggressive and with severe behavioral problems. Upon telling the rescue organization of the kennels shenanigans, they still told me to use their day care facility as it's the cheapest in UAE and because no other day care could take my girl. Thanks to the support of very qualified behaviorist and trainers we have helped her to socialize with humans and other animals and it's slowly getting better. From what I have seen of her before, she was certainly beaten and starved and still the rescue workers use this kind of facility. Shame on every organization and worker who promotes this place.

MissMoiselle, I completely understand where you are comming from, however, positive reinforced based training does not call for the use of harsh and Inhumane methods. It's all about click n treats n keeping training periods short and requires huge dedication and patience from the handler. It's basically training the handler. Now with the OPs dog, tightening the lead and speaking in harsh tones can get ugly. This is a behavioral problem with a rescue who could have had an ugly past. Good trainers and behaviorist do ask questions but more over observe the dog in different situations and with positive reinforced based training, methods will always be different because no 2 dogs are the same.

Dogs can sense on your fear hence they act out. First and foremost would be best to teach your dog loose leash walking as during the training periods he would pass a million distractions and still focus on the handler. Check out kikopup on YouTube for a better understanding but its best to seek professional direction if this is a first pet plus you will be trained to understand and communicate with your dog "correctly".

This generally can happen when a rescue has settled into a new home. They are testing their boundaries as well as take it upon themselves to protect their families. He would need a bit of socialization. Send him to day care or go for one of the doggie parks where he will meet other dogs and humans. It's essential in the early years of any pup to be exposed to different kinds of people and animals. Don't worry as he's not trying to be a pack leader as that myth has been dispelled with scientific data now. Contact Laura from positive paws who can assist both you and him during this phase. There are loads of thing you can do but not necessary it will work as every dog has a different personality like us humans and needs to be worked on differently hence a professional behaviorist.

I am all for dubizzle as we have bought and sold many items. As a seller I always list my phone number but I am very firm even though I am willing to negotiate, If a buyer keeps canceling on me I just do not entertain their calls anymore and before I even get into the description of the item I ask the buyer their budget and if it's something ridiculous, i thank them for their interest and wish them all the best in their search. As a buyer, I deal pretty much the same way I would like to be treated so when I call I first ask if the price is negotiable and to what extent. I do not want to waste the sellers time asking product questions if we are not going to agree on a price. I am also realistic about the prices as with technology upgrades, products lose they value rather fast. Overall, it's been a pleasant experience for me.

If your searching for apts then you should just drive around the areas you are interested in and look for the security people in the building and ask them for the owners details, for villa's network on expat woman and drive down the areas and look for signs posted by LL's directly. If you do a search on here you can easily pick the standard tenancy forms locally in dxb and you do not need an agent to draw it up. It's been over 5 years now since we used an agent and are very happy that we don't anymore as all of them just waste our time, on the other hand, LL's are extremely helpful and are willing to negotiate rent prices unlike agents. We generally start looking 3 months before our shift as this way we can choose the best location for an excellent price with a good LL.

We never give deposits until we receive LL's passport copy, Title deed / affection plan and a receipt from the agent or in our case we take a photo copy of the deposit cheque and make the LL sign and state this is a deposit for the property with details of the property along with the date.

Neem oil is an organic pesticide. You can buy it from dubai garden centre. If you have neem trees, you can paste a few and steep it overnight in hot water and dilute and use the next day. The left overs can be put into the soil and will keep them bugs away.

Do you need to rinse your hair after using bicarb & water wash if you do not use the conditioner afterwards? Also, do you use bottled water to make the shampoo & rinse? Thanks ladies, can't wait to try these I use tap water only and my hair is doing great. Yes you have to rinse you hair after using the bicard water mix.... it's just like a shampoo which you would rinse off. Same goes with the AVC rinse. The bicard mix is to clean the scalp of excess oils. Like GMKSME mentioned earlier, give your scalp 2 weeks to a month to adjust to this as it's been used to shampoo. It will get extra greasy before it starts getting better. Once it does get better you can wash you hair once a week or more.

Yes I will agree that the rent committee is different from RERA. Although on 2 separate occasions, it was RERA who helped me out as a tenant, Land dept building, 2nd or 3rd floor. They made the call to the R/E agency and also did a verification for us. The last time I went there was Jan this year and they were still every willing to help. R/C is helpful yes as we have gone to open a case but the people at RERA (Land dept) saved us the trouble, time and money in opening up a case. I have recommended them a few times to others and 2 of them had to open rent disputes while the others resolved their problems at this office. Very, very helpful people there with sound advice also.

Rent committee is at the land dept where rera sit too. Just on quick one, you can confirm with rera tomorrow. Since this buyer has only paid a deposit and not the full amount to your LL he technically does not own the property hence has no title deeds transfered to his name. This would mean you are legally not supposed to be in dialogue with the buyer or even the buyers agent as they have no legal proof of ownership. If they get ugly again, call the cops and take the agents name and company's name down so you can report them to rera too. Weather you pay in one cheque or 12, it's irrelevant as long as you have your contract registered with ejari no one can evict you.

Go in person to Rent committee and request them to make a call to this arrogant bully after explaining your situation. I have done this with a very big R/E agency in dxb and did not even open a case as one call from RERA office front of us did the trick. 12 months notice is required by LL to ask the tenant to vacate but it also means that he cannot rent that property for 2 years so tell him if he wants to get tuff, you too can. edited by ecochic on 28/05/2013

GMKSME/Ecochic, would you share your 'shampoo/body wash' recipes if you don't mind? I'm so interested in doing this, have found many online recipes but there are so many it's pretty confusing :( I would love to know of a recipe that is tried and tested! I have shoulder length hair, tweak the amounts to suite your length. Shampoo, 1 tsp bicard soda to a full glass of water. Mix and you could pour it into a squeezy bottle for use. Remember there will not be any foam. Conditioner, 1 cap full of Apple cider vinegar diluted in a full glass of water. Use a squeezy bottle and pour on hair. I let it sit for a few mins before washing it off. Sometimes I make myself a rosemary or chamomile conditioner. Steep old tea bags of chamomile overnight and use the water the next day as a conditioner. Steep a few twigs of rosemary in boiling water and use the next day.

doesn't that leave your hair really dry? I can't actually get a brush through my hair (it's that tangely) without copious amounts of conditioner.... In the beginning yes as it takes a while for the hair to get used to it. Hence the AVC diluted rinse which is a conditioner basically. There are days now that I do not use AVC and my hair does not get knotted but I do give my hair an oil massage just before washing it so that helps too.
