As per RERA (can't say if they have changed it now) a contract can be broken as long as the tenant pays the LL 2 months rent. LL will handover remaining cheques and security deposit. If you have your tenancy contract registered with Ijari, you could complain to rent committee that your LL is not doing any maintenance and they will straighten the whole matter out. With regards to pump making noise, it happens when the pump is on it's last leg. Happened to me a few times so I know of this. It's not expensive as most villa pumps are not more the 1 HP which would cost about AED 300/- and will last 5+ years.

I second Lolacat here. While you mentioned your dog is socialized, this incident only proves otherwise. No socialized and trained dog behaves this way, especially when the handler is around. Socialized dogs would run and start playing with the other dog or human and if the other dog breaks into an aggressive bark, your dog would just walk away. These are signs of greater problems you could face in the future... I can only imagine what everyone would have said if it was a big dog, everyone would have been gunning for it to be taken away from the owners or worse... Just because it's a small dog does not mean it is acceptable and can be overlooked.

There are 2 uses for crates. First, it's a fun den for the dog (private space) and secondly, yes, to get it's attention when it's distracted. And never, ever leave the dog in the crate for long periods (in my opinion, not over an hour) and alone. Personally I do not use crates for keeping my dogs, just use them as training aids and the dogs go in there to sleep sometimes out of their own free will. Doggie gates are good and handy... we use both. You would need to do an introduction with the dog and the crate. Get the dog to sniff your firm fistful of "high value treats" and once the attention is on the treats, immediately throw it in the crate and sit in front of it with you dog inside. Do not close the door at the beginning stages. Once he starts going in readily and happily, use the cue "crate" or "kennel". After he has associated the cue's and the crate then only begin closing the door but sit outside and keep treating and praising. Keep these sessions not more then 15 mins long. Chops are mainly bone with no real marrow so dogs tend to finish it in mins. Use leg bones but never beef bones as that can crack their teeth because they are weight bearing. Roast bones would work also. Always make sure the bones are bigger then his mouth for inexperienced dogs. The moment he stops barking (those few mins) immediately go in or open the door and praise and treat him (I used to stand with my hand on the door knob to open it immediately till it got better). Here you need to get the timing correct as thats very crucial. He will slowly realize that you come in only when he stops barking but it will take time. You will gradually notice the duration of silence between barks increases. If by any chance you open and he starts barking again, go back and shut door immediately. Dogs are very smart :) just give them time. 2 of ours learnt it over the weekend while the other took 7 months so it varies from dog to dog and most importantly their history. The best way is to build a connection with your dog by doing simple basic obedience first and then moving to the Separation anxiety bit. Watch Kikopup videos on youtube for training and behavior modifications. All +R and creative ways to find solutions. Day Care could be an option during the day till you work on this.

Training, Training, Training is the key here. Read your comments on the main forum. When your home, every time he is calm and quiet and just sitting or laying down, encourage that behavior with "high value treats - boiled chicken / cheese / sausage" and use the cue "Quiet" or "Calm". When he is barking, remove him from the stimulating environment by giving him a time out. Here crates or a doggie gate comes in handy. Keep him in the "time out area" for not more then 1 minute. Release him only if he displays clam behavior and is not jumping nor barking. You will need to keep doing this until he realizes it himself and he will gradually. When removing him from the environment, do not yell or get angry, just a firm "No" with out any other verbal communication. Keep doing this for many months or till he learns. Older dogs take a while so give them all the time in the world as they love learning and will eventually master it. Now with regards to him barking when your out. All dogs, if had it their way, would want you 24x7 :). It could be lots of reasons why he barks. One main cause is separation anxiety. This will take a bit of working on but it's all possible. First thing is to exercise him before beginning the training. Tire him out. Crate's are a great way to start with. After exercising, let him have his drink of water and immediately put him in his crate (Keep the crate near the main door so he can see it). Give him a few "High value treats" and immediately exit from the door. Here you are not leaving the home but will be standing outside the door. Let him bark and the moment he stops, immediately step in with lots of praises and treat him. Do not open the crate door at all. Keep doing this for about half hour and then give him a rest and then repeat again in an hours time. Gradually you will notice that the duration of him barking would reduce and eventually stop. Once it's stopped, Try to leave him for longer durations starting with 15 mins (no barking should be heard) and gradually increasing it to an hour n more. You need to be outside the door but stand at a reasonable distance from it so he does not sense you. When every you enter in, immediately praise and treat. It's best to always make sure the curtains are drawn close so he has no visible contact with the outside and leave the radio on. What works best is to give him a BIG juicy meaty bone (only lamb bones). He will spend the entire day getting to the marrow and this will give any dog great mental stimulation. These are POSITIVE REINFORCED methods only. They will take longer but will stay with the dog forever. Both the above methods are tried and tested personally by me on our 3 dogs who varied in ages. Remember the older the dog, the more time they need as then need to unlearn what was reinforced in the past so just give them time. Never offer 'High Value Treats" when not in training or else the value reduces. Both methods can take a week to a year as every dog is different and in the end it depends on the handlers commitment and regularity. Get yourself a treat pouch to wrap around your waist and treat for desired or good behaviours only. All the best.

Home baked bread is the best. I use basic all purpose flour n sometimes whole wheat flour. Bread is the easiest to make. 2.5 cups flour 1.5 tsp active dried yeast 1.5 tsp sugar or honey Pinch of salt 2 tbs oil (optional) Luke warm water Mix all ingredients together and keep adding water till dough forms and is soft but not sticky. Knead dough on table surface for 10 mins more. Place in a dry bowl n cover with a clean thin cloth. Keep it in a warm place till it doubles in size (should take 1/2 hour to 45 mins in this country). Once risen, knead again till all air pockets are gone. You can add little flour if sticky. Form loaf shape and place it in a greased loaf pan or flat baking sheet if making buns. Cover n let it rise till it doubles. Preheat oven at 170 degrees Celsius. Bake till it browns on top. Ovens vary, I bake mine for 25 mins with a golden brown top using the bottom burner only. Once done, slice n some butter n happy nom nom.

ecochic... please elaborate how to use baking soda as shampoo and ACV as conditioner. will the greasy oily scalp get clean with baking soda?i guess a lot of us here would be thankful if you could share . see the no. of threads that pop up regarding hair fall in dubai :( There are 2 ways to use baking powder (sodium bicarbonate and not baking powder, Sorry, my bad). First is to dilute a tablespoon or more of baking soda (tweak it according to your length) with a cup of water, put it in a squeeze bottle and give it a good shake, use like a shampoo. Just remember, there is no soapy lather. Put it directly on your scalp and give it a good rub, then rinse thoroughly. Second method (I use this), wet your hair, apply the dry baking soda to rub/clean the scalp using little by little till you have covered the entire area and rinse. To condition, a cap of Apple cider vinegar diluted with a cup of water. Mix and apply to hair. I let it sit for a bit before rinsing it off. Sometimes I soak a couple of fresh Rosemary twigs in hot water overnight and add a cap of ACV and refrigerate it overnight and use the next day. Your scalp will have a transition period where your hair will react to excess oil being produced and no shampoo to clean it. This can range from 2 weeks to a few months. Took me 2 weeks for my scalp to stop producing excessive amounts of oil.

Sadly annual vaccinations are not good for our cats and dogs. They cause serious side effects which can be dangerous. Just keep an eye on him and keep a check on his temperature. If after 24 hrs he is still the same or getting worse, take him back to the vet.

I have 2 Saluki mixes who have been very interested in everything that moves in the past but using the 50 meter lead and using very high value treats like cheese and chicken or beef sausage or even boiled chicken they always just hang with us and if they stray far one call and they come darting back. Now I have a GSD who refuses treats when he's out of the house. For him, I use frisbees and balls as treats as he is very focused of these toys. Treats can be, praises, toys or food. When it's toys, just remember to break it out only when they are in training or off lead as you do not want the toy to decreases in value for them. Now Saluki's prefer fresh food over dry food, both my girls at least were this way, so try some fresh yummie treats which again should be used only during training sessions. We did alot of loose leash walking too in the initial period and kept desert session trainings short as they tend to get bored (15 mins per cue). To make the entire experience fun, we did loose leash walking, recall, loose leash walking, stay, loose leash walking, recall. When back home, we practiced, religiously, every 2 hours the above cues so it just gets imprinted in their minds. Reason for loose leash walking is so that when off lead, then just hang around you which is far better then them running off. All our dogs have been trained using clickers only. I think it's a big misconception that Salukis are difficult to train. We just need to be creative with the training and always remember, they get bored fast so keep training sessions short and make it fun. Ive met many well trained pure bred salukis who are just the opposite of what everyone claim. We too would love to join with our 3 but sadly our recent rescue has been an abused case who we are still working on. She has severe aggression towards other dogs (apart from or other 2) so we are working with her slowly.... have a laundry list of behavioral issues which need to be addressed so we taking our sweet time... baby steps all the way and lots of patience.

We take our dogs every weekend to the desert for off leash fun times. Before we let them off leash, we put each of them on a 50 meter rope (picked it from ace - sailing ropes) attached to their harnesses n lots of high value treats like sausage. We practiced recall and used Frisbee's n balls to make them run far and used the cue "come" and instantly treated them. Did this for a good 6 months before letting them free. Also worked on the "leave it cue" which helped us later. Today, we see camels, gazelles and loads of birds but our dogs are just not interested because we taught them to hang with us as we are more fun. No muzzles nor worry of them running off.

Not all breeders are bad, there are some really ethical breeders who mate their dogs once every 3 to 4 years and conduct all the genetic n medical test to make sure non of the faulty genes are passed down, but these breeders are very, very rare. They even spay n nueter once the dogs have had a certain amount of litters. Backyard breeders are dangerous as the have non whatsoever knowledge with the science behind breeding. I would be sketchy of any vet who willingly say breed as vets are mainly business people (the bills and over medication say it all) who know damn well the profit they are going to make from a litter. My personal opinion is that all these kennel clubs need to be put out of business as the too cause a major chunk of the problem...

Beef is sold in abundance, you name you cut n you get it! Supermarkets don't stock beef as most people go directly to the butchers, fresh beef, lamb and pork. I am from Mumbai... Living now in dxb. Loads of big supermarkets which sell lots of imported foodstuff, but limited choices n expensive, local brands are good. Tampons are available since over 20 years :) lol Dirt, dust, noise.... Yes, loads of it but all my Expat friends who lived there loved it. Poverty is very visible, but hey, only in dubai we do not see the homeless sleeping on the streets. Water is abundant and cheap while electricity could get expensive but when I compare it to dxb, lot cheaper. Tap water is fine to drink but best to get a filter. Rentals would be expensive for expats but still cheaper then dxb and you get mainly apartments. Lots of taxi services and you can call for one. Traffic is mad... Plan 2 hours in advance always... Lots of work on roads n flyovers still. Healthcare, can't go wrong there.... Very good. Hmmm!!! Lots of fine dining n night life... Education is good lots of variety with schools. National language is hindi but with its multicultural background, English is spoken n understood.

It's good to know you do not kick or hurt your dogs but unlike you there are loads that do so and it's all thanks to CM's show :( The RSPCA and ASPCA have worked very hard to change the mindset of the dog training community and as they were making progress CM's show came live.... But all credited rescue and animal welfare organizations use +R. Today they use +R to train bees, dolphins, cats etc. To know more, check out Patricia McConnell's channel on youtube. And Dr Ian Dunbar (vet and behaviorist) who till today gives lectures and is trying to change the mindset of the old ways. As said in the past, it's a slow process but a guaranteed one with no harm or use of painful training aids. It's only like threads like this can we all gather new information which we can further our knowledge and understanding and continue to research:)

Either way please watch this BBC documentary called "pedigree dogs exposed" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZMegQH1SPg As Nomad said, leave the breeding to the professional ethical breeders who know what they are doing.

I believe in crate training but would never leave them in crates the whole day as firstly I have big dogs and sitting in a crate for long periods will cause hip / joint problems and is not fine by me at all. But on the other hand, I use the crates when I am training with them and the kitties. The reason why I disagree with the Alpha / Old training methods is because I rescued an adult dog who spent the better half of her life in a kennel and was worked upon using CM's alpha and dominance methods. After the training they tried finding a home and she has bitten almost all the families who were interested in her. It's been over a year and only +R along with loads of counter conditioning and today she is a happy bunny who has never tried biting us or our other dogs. She is still in training as CM's methods have caused a big problem for her and only now does she trust humans and dogs. Why would anyone want to be the alpha, just sounds too rigid and military, instead you could be their mommie or best friend. Science have proven kids are not stupid but could have a variety of learning disabilities, but the old days they were just plain old dumb... would I still choose scientific methods over old ways.... **** yes... Way too many times I have seen aggressive dogs become gentle giants only because lots of love and no abusive methods were used like chocking or alpha roll overs etc etc.. +R training is slow and long but then again, we all get a dog to join our family so that amount of time needs to be invested to have a great well behaved companion. Ive yet to see a +R trainer get bitten soo many times like CM... It just shows how well versed he is with a dogs body language. Guess it does pay to know the wealthy and have a TV show! @ RuthM, the lady you used does sound like she did not know what she was doing... PPP or PP are great. Used them both.... only +R and have a varity of ways to bring the best out of any dog.

Truth be told, Caesars methods are old training methods (alpha, pack leader). Its been scientifically been proven that while these methods may work quicker they have associated it with psychological imbalances and distrust. Positive reinforcement works great but is more time consuming and the end results last a life time not forgetting a unbreakable bond between handler and animal. There are many trainers who after seeing results with this new scientific training have switched from the old to the new with far greater results. Using old methods on big dogs (GSD Rottie, Doberman etc) can result in the handler getting a nasty bite if not brutally injured as they all tend to use correctional collars which cause pain to the animal. Smaller animals portray other unwanted behaviors if not doing the same but bites and injuries are far smaller due to size. Victoria Stilwell is a great crossover trainer and to burst the Alpha and pack leader bubble please watch / read the Scientist who coined this term in the 70's Dr David L Mech who today has openly said their findings were wrong and Wolves do not follow the pack mentality and instead like a normal human family, are the same. The experiments were done when the wolves were taken out of their natural environment and and thus the findings were wrong.

Overtime, due to detergents n laundry liquid, there is a build up which causes mold and this can cause moisture to accumulate at both the inside surface of the door and the interior of the machine. Using right amounts of detergents is just not enough. And as marycatherine mentioned, leaving the door open so it can dry helps. The manufactures manual had instructions on doing this deep cleaning.

I've had this problem also. Did not realize that washing machines need to be washed every 3 months and not just using the plain cycles but need to be scrubbed from within. I used a mix of baking soda and vinegar in a spray and cleaned everything out. Once it was cleaned I used a high pressure hose and hosed down the inside along with the soap tray and the drain point. Now I do a simple baking soda and vinegar mix ever 3 months and follow up with a lemon and vinegar hot cycle.

You can start working as long as your labor card is being processed. I would recommend asking HR for copies of the documents they submitted with some kind of acknowledgement from labor or free zone authority (stamped paper). This is just in the off chance something happens. Some free zones ask for certificates to be attested while others don't.

There is no rule to protect the tenant if something like this takes place. Best would be to speak to the LL and let him know what happened and see how it goes. BTW, rents are up and rising so you could let him know that so he may not charge you for the 2 months penalty. All the best!

One more thing. once pardoned and sent back, it's deportation and a life time ban within GCC. They can travel anywhere else but not in these countries. Not necessarily i know of someone who was jailed and deported and visits here alot :-0 Sadly for this type of offense, the country is very strict (Zero tolerance) and they do not allow anyone to enter. Dont wast money on lawyers for this. They shall charge between 40K to 70K only to get the same sentence. If's it's found on the person (carrying), no chance for them to be set free. I know of 2 cases with friends where this happened. One case they hired a top notch lawyer and the other never hired any. Either way, the sentence would be 4 years imprisonment and they will be pardoned by the ruler during the next eid (I believe they have a minimum of 7 months to stay at the Aweer prison. Family and friends can meet them on saturdays (men mornings and women afternoon) and special meetings can be arranged by the staff at the prison during weekdays. Should you want to know more details, do let me know. As of now he is kept at the jail nearest to the airport and would take about 15 days to be transfered to the central jail at aweer.

Here too you an put full apples, carrots, beets, pears etc. What is nice is that the seeds do not get juiced and i just throw in unskinned fruits as it does the skinning for me. http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=817&bih=402&tbm=isch&tbnid=KvzFWqrUWNEcoM:&imgrefurl=http://yekaterinburg.olx.ru/kenwood-vita-pro-active-je810-850w-iid-177994818&docid=ENQr44OQPRGEtM&imgurl=http://images03.olx.ru/ui/13/56/18/1300285289_177994818_1----KENWOOD-Vita-Pro-Active-JE810-850W.jpg&w=440&h=465&ei=eUEsUaC4GInTtQak5IHQAw&zoom=1&ved=1t:3588,r:1,s:0,i:88&iact=rc&dur=1519&sig=110765414130652470230&page=1&tbnh=176&tbnw=166&start=0&ndsp=8&tx=90&ty=110 edited by ecochic on 26/02/2013
