How old do you have to be as an expat to get a bank account here have an 18 year old just started work told she cant have a bank account??? Surely if you are working earning a salary you should be able to put that money somewhere??

Have been there 2 years and not much goes on, they have the market outside the spinneys (main one) when it gets cool and they have the kids go cycles you can hire and ride up and down, there is the autodrome but to be honest not much happens there, we occasionally get fliers giving residents free entry and we did get offered a membership card but didnt take the offer up. There was some talk of movie nights a long time ago there was a DMC board going but i think that died a wile ago.

@egg; if you took a job and the parameteres for that job were a weight below xkg and you went over it, why is it the employers fault? Sorry but if you signed up for it how can you complain? just to add, i would never take a job that specifically described what my weight / appearance / preferences should be, i wouldnt want to work for a company like that FYI

Come on unless its in the weight / fitness industry why would you sign something that stated you would stay a XXX KG, there are many reasons why people put weight on, maybe the said employer should spend more time being concerned for its staff member instead of a few KG

I just quit my job yesterday because my company was bullying me into losing weight. I have a customer service job where I guess the image is important but I was never at an extreme unsafe weight that would hinder me in doing my job. The only reason I did put on weight first of all was because I had a baby a year ago and even thought I worked very hard trying all different diets and exercise the last kgs are just slow to get rid of. They have done monthly progress reviews of me losing the weight and I was told in no uncertain terms that I would be sacked if I didn`t reach their target weight. Now, we are only talking about 4 kgs here and I would have most probably lost it but I have decided to quit. I think no company has the right to treat anyone like that but hey, we are in the ME, they can do whatever they want. Absolutely disgusting and shocking, in this day and age in any other country you could have taken them straight to a tribunal and be awarded millions no doubt for something so ludicrous and down right nonsensical. Amazes me how people think they can behave like that as if its a normal thing, a few KG for goodness sake, so what most people are probably a few KG over what the medical industry describe as the ideal weight, your ideal weight is what YOU feel comfortable with, not what society says you should be, Love yourself xx

I have found its a bit of a culture thing in particular with Filipinos i have come across, i have had the following comments 1) you dont eat a lot of rice so why are you fat 2) you have spots on your face (after returning from a holiday, not you look nice relaxed and tanned but that i have spots) 3) if you drink green tea you will have a se*y body again 4) were you slim when you were younger 5) you should really do some sport to help you get fit 6) is everyone in your family fat 7) you drink soda thats why you are big bellied Oh lovely, thanks so much for your comments i will take them all on board ha ha Edited to add the best one, sorry madam we dont do your big size the XL wont fit you Talk about a confidence boost edited by egg on 21/07/2011

There are so many bad hairdressers out there that charge you a small fortune for the privelege of having your hair look like a small child did it, If anyone actually manages to find a reasonably priced one who is great please let me know 3 years and still looking like a 3 year old did my hair, the only decent cut i get is when i go home once a year. Not sure how they can charge 700 AED for highlights and a cut and blow when they use no different products to what is used at home its ridiculous. Over the years have had the same, really bad cuts and color jobs at some of the supposedly best salons. With the turnover of staff its hard to say if the same still applies but If you are looking for just a trim, I have used the salon in Lamcy several times, but not recently, it has been ok for a simple cut and or trim, not had color done there. Its not expensive. Alternatively I have had a cut and trim at Bellisma salon in DG also not recently either. Quite reasonably priced too. Definately avoid the salon outside of Ibn Battuta Mall at the Geant end, I had an experience there that can only be compared to an attack by Edward Scissorhands. HTH edited by Di@DXB on 19/07/2011 Ha ha your last line made me chuckle, i have had that experience pretty much everytime or as i said feeling like it was done by a 3 year old child, hasten to add, some of the cuts would have actually had come out better had a 3 year old child done it !!!!

Karama is an experience, i love going there simply for the banter. You can get Tshirts - fake but good quality (depending where you go) Fake handbags of designers, purses, scarfs, jewellery, shoes, regular clothing items (non branded). Nik Naks, souveniers, open all day from 10am except friday when it opens around 4pm. There are different qualities to the fakes they sell, there are just fake and then genuine fake, they will all ask you do you want to come and see their bags and it can get a bit tiresome in the heat looking at all of them, so my advice is to just check out a few, or go for a reccomendation of somewhere if you want something specific. Enjoy, like i said i love Karama the atmosphere is a welcome change from other areas in Dubai all very friendly.

Yes the marinated one, i get a bit concerned with the chicken breasts and things here, if you look at a fresh whole chicken its very small only just about enough for a family of 3 yet the chicken breasts you buy seperate are huge ... pumped full of something no doubt, god i hate summer here you have to be so careful what you eat you just dont know do you!!

Not sure what therapy they do exactly, but they do lots my DS goes to Rashid Therapy Centre once a week for OT and attention therapy (i.e. doing what you are actually told to do and also fine and gross motor skills) he sees Jade who has done some amazing sessions with him over the last year he has really come on leaps and bounds, they do all sorts of other therapy too, maybe worth checking their website, our sessions are 300 AEd per hour.

We stayed at the Flamingo, loved it, very clean, very fun atmosphere and extremely reasonable in price. Definitely, you must do a show and visit the outlets, we had a huge win and went and spent every cent of it at the outlet on the kids, had to get an extra 2 cases to bring all the stuff home Lol Its the adults disneyland, we loved it. Enjoy . edited by egg on 18/07/2011

Try Cut Above, 1st Floor, Jumeirah Centre. Really nice salon, Jackie (English) does great colour and cutting too. If you need a Mani/Pedi can't recommend Alma highly enough! I went there for a while but i didnt like have stopped going now as my hair is a mess (and it cost me 750 aed for the privelege), although Jackie does not do mine, am in need of a super fab reasonably priced hairdresser too.

Are they not one of the stores that already had theirs before DSS started? I know the likes of DEbenhams had a huge sale before DSS and just seem to have a small one on as does Splash and H&M, not sure why the stores do that does not make sense to have it before DSS? But i dont know i may be wrong.

Go to a Doctor, drink a half glass of cranberry every morning too which wards off yeast infections etc. could be something you are eating that is affecting you, anything too citrus etc can affect the nether regions.

LuLee have you tried Ebookers.com, i am flying to UK, but you can use the site to fly anywhere in the world, i got direct flights with emirates leaving end july returning half way through August for 2369 AED each return including car hire for the duration of my stay. i have used ebookers many times and found them cheaper than booking direct with the airline in question, as emirates were almost 4000 on their website for exactly the same flight.

This old chestnut, i have had this problem for years, everywhere here is so ridiculously expensive if you are big bossomed and require cup sizes, it drives me insane, Only other things i found are www.brastop.com, bravissimo, both online and deliver to UAE and both have a sale on, Braspot the cheapest but they do Freya and all them ranges some at just a tenner.

Was the spider a dark colour, i heard that the Huntsman spiders from australia are over here too, they are huge disgusting looking things but fairly harmless, Camel spiders dont chase after you, they liek shade so it appears they are chasing you by walking in your shadow, never actually seen one and would pass out if i did as i hate them, but i have seen a scorpion and threw up Lol.
