Ok my maid, we hired ourselves, not via an agency, she was an overstayer originally, but we paid the fine at immigration visa issued no porbelms she has been with us 2 years so, she is flying back to Phillipines for a month, so i know i need to 1) Get her an Emirates ID card? 2) Go to Polo office? But will they let her do whatever she needs to do there or is it only for agency maids? Confused didnt know it was so much messing around, any further things i need to do pelase let me know?

Virgin at MOE have a huge selection of kids videos, youshould be able to find what you are looking for in there, they are usually around 80 AED though which i think is expensive for DVD its over 10 UK pounds, but its worth it to keep the little ones happy :)

Debenhams? Not sure if they have a bridal section here but they do in the UK ones and are very reasonable. Plus sales are on now we got 1 for 50 quid. edited by egg on 23/01/2011

like zannie, i too have bought a couple of bags from karama that have lasted (still lasts) and are fantastic quality. i have one shop i go to and although he doesnt exchange, he is confident (and with good reason) about his products. although i obviously support child labour (as per some ladies on this thread) i cannot get myself to buy a fake LV bag. that is one bag i really, really want but i wont even buy the real thing here. it is hilarious when you walk in MOE to see "the sorts" with their "LV bags" the karama watches are, however, another story :D Ah now i have a fab watch man lol :) Did you have a bad experience?

find out who the boy is through her fb page and write a message on his profile saying you will threaten to call the police if he does not leave the little girl alone. The fact that he is 4-5 years older and is posting on her page with rude words could be construed as s3xual harrassment and he should be told that this could land him in jail. That should stop the little sh*t. just to add...I would also consider involving his parents in this. Is that not cyber bullying??? Its not a very mature approach to the situation really! Telling a 14 year old boy who is harrassing a 9 year old girl that you will call the police is bullying?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Get a grip Threatening a 14 year old on facebook yes...does that not just make you as bad as him!!! no....if it were my daughter being harrassed by this ape I would do more than that Fact of this matter in particular is that its not the OP's child its someone elses and therefore shuld be handled by the childs parents.

summerdream, not meaning to be rude but are you a trained social worker who works for an actual organization or are you doing this off your own back? Just thinking in terms of you, because you may get yourself in over your head plus get into trouble if you're getting involved with other people's children without actually informing the parents... I know you want to help, and I think its great that you want to but please be careful, I know you're thinking of the girl, but the fact of the matter is her parents are her guardians and by going behind their back you could end up upsetting people and getting yourself into trouble. I would keep yourself at arms length, encourage her to talk to her parents and her school councilor, and explain that if she's afraid of telling her parents of Facebook the best thing to do is to delete it... actually its best to delete Facebook in any situation as it is against the rules to have it for a reason... Definitely won't do this behind the parent's back, in this instance thought my own DD is involved as the girl has posted party pictures and the boy has got hold of this. So I will be telling the parents for one, that they should not allow pictures posting. I did want to make sure the school does something about this too. Well thats it i would not hang around and go and speak to the parents, if there are pictures of your 9 year old DD floating around cyber space for all to get hold of, thats not acceptable and i would speak tot he parents immediately.

Firstly, you are opening a whole can of worms, it is not your business to confront the bully's parents, you are not the childs parent, you should advise the parents that she has asked for help, tell the school, but by no means should you go behind the parents back, this is not another country it is the UAE and you could find yourself in deep trouble for getting involved in this. Advise her if you wish that she should close her account and speak to her parents, but thats about as far as i would take it, you dont have any authority to do anything more, Why does a 9 year old have FB anyway???? Beyond belief there are allsorts of odd charachters, paedophiles, groomers and such like who target FB and young boys and girls and as another poster stated, she is not capable at that age to handle such things. Regardless of hearsay about what the parents may or may not be doing to their child, you have no evidence that this is the case, how would you feel if the shoe was on the other foot and someone else was getting involved in your daughters affairs??

Al Barsha is a really nice area i like it around there, the villas have character and are very reasonable rent wise, its also centrally located to pretty much everywhere, Mirdif are cheap villas prob around 100k for a 3 bed but it depends if you like the area or not, i did see a townhouse in motorcity for 140k which is quite good price.

Yep i second the little bit older dog (toddler lol) our last dog we rescued from the pound, he was about to be put down that day, he developed distemper once we got him home and vet said unlikely to survive the week 9 years later and he is still going strong, he was about 9 months old when we got him our DS was 3 months old at the time, he was an amazing boy, had been treated very bad and was nervous but soon became a loving companion to my DS followed him everywhere, when he started walking, he was always a few steps behind him watching him, never once had a nip at him all the pulling DS did on him too bless him, he was an absolute cracker.

Wish the state of California would hang a previous friend of mine for murdering her husband two weeks ago.. Dubai is safer than most places. These type of incidents happen every where in the world. OMG i am so sorry bornconfused, must be awful thinking of you x I'm okay. Just quite peeved as I sent the b*tch flowers, offered her sympathy, talked to her for hours about it running up my damn phone bill. Only to find out she murdered him 4 days later. Goodness, i imagine its very expensive over here and you have to be careful as a lot of puppies from sale over here are from puppy farms which are not too good by all accounts, think the cost of a puppy alone would be well over 10,000 AED, then there are vet fees on top and regular vet check ups, a friend of mine bought a pup cost her 12,500 within 2 weeks he had died, she contacted the breeder, who said oh sorry here is another one, she was given another one, which had numerous health issues and cost her in excess of 20,000 to get him right and sort of healthy, he is permanently on medication, very sad. Just be very careful when choosing one, have you tried K9 friends, they have lots of animals looking for a loving home even puppies, might be worth a shot, we have never had breeded dogs only rescue ones and the ones we have been fortunate enough to have in our lives have been the most amazing animals we felt very lucky with all of them. Good luck :)

To be honest - if her taking time out doesn't suit your family situation but it's better for her to go back to her family in the summer when the schools are off - then that's when she has to take her holiday. Has she completed her years service and her holiday is due? If not, then perhaps you can explain to her that this is when she will be able to take her vacation - not in March...... We all have to complete vacation request forms - some are rejected - so....if it really causes you a big problem having her away at this time - then you have to reject her holiday request. The exit pass is so that they can exit Manila to return to Dubai - the Polo office is here - Deira area - talk to your maid she will know all about it and if she doesn't she will be able to ask the maid mafia who know everything! You need to complete this before she travels and it allows her to easily leave Manila to come back to work for you again. Thanks Claire, yes she has been with us for 2 years and its the graduation of her children, so i dont want her to miss that, i wouldnt want to miss mine, i will ask her about the exit pass. Thanks

Sorry i am hijacking too, whats the exit pass for and where is the Polo office? Also does the maid have to return to Dubai within a set time frame like the other poster asked i.e. 30 days etc? I am asking as our maid wants to return end of march for a month for her childrens graduation. Also whilst on the subject what do working mums do when the maid goes on vacation for a month??? I am struggling to think of a way around the situation as i work full time and DS is only in school until 2pm? Arrrggghhh :)you tell the maid she will get vacation every 2 years. then cancel her and get a new maid. 2 years is good really, any more than that and the problems start ....so just get a new maid every 2 years and you will never be maidless. Are you serious???? Absolutely ridiculous, why would i go through all the trouble of finding a new maid i can trust with my DS, go through all the trouble of visa processes, setting down ground rules etc, when my maid is wonderful, i dont want a new maid, i am happy for mine to return to us after her vacation, my question was what do other working mums do when thier maids go on vacation. It took me 4 months to find a maid i could trust, i cannot afford to spend that amount of time trying to find another one.
