What NOT to do :D Years ago when DD2 was about 3/4 (she's now 15 and still alive and kicking and driving me nuts lol much as I love her) I'd been on a school trip with DD1 who was about 7/8 (Bronze Age history thing, lots of smelly smoke from a Bronze Age fire). I'd got home stinking of smoke, DDs were happy playing or so I thought so I snuck a quick bath. DD2 found me and ranty tantied as by this time she was tired and hungry. After some persuasion (ie. shouting from me!) she left me be and I finished my bath and came downstairs to cook supper and she carried on ranting at me (and boy could she rant as a littley). In the kitchen, I filled a saucepan of ICY COLD water from the kitchen tap to boil for pasta and something in my head went ping and mid ranty tanty I tipped it on DD2s little curly head! It was bliss - the quiet, the peace the calm - for a split second and then she started screaming even louder. So, whilst it worked, it wasn't by any means a long lasting solution - and I had all the mess to clear up and sort her out too. It's been a joke in our house for a long time now that if you mess with mum in the bath you get a pot of cold water poured on you afterwards!! I did something similar to my teen only involved an egg splattered on the head Lol needless to say it resulted in hysterical fits of laughter and the moaning of how unfair life is and how its pants being a teen dissapeared. :-)

I flew with them to Sri Lanka, they were fine, nothing fancy but plane was clean, staff were fine and flight was cheap. Thats the only issue i had with the Maldives, could find very cheap flights, reasonable hotel, sea plane transfer - astronomical cost more than the flights and a few days in the hotel. HTH

Go and see Dr Mazen at the EHL Clinic in the Dubai Mall. My husband was told he has IBS and lived with it for years avoiding spicy and rich food but the symptoms were still there. He was diagnosed in the UK. We went to see Dr Mazen and he performed a colonoscopy ( wasnt done on the NHS in the UK ) and he found that he is suffering from Collitis. Second this, Dr Mazen is my saviour, i was told i had IBS and have been suffering for almost 3 years, i have seen Dr Mazen had tests and a proper diagnosis and its not IBS, its very easy for a Dr to mistake the symptons without investigating. Im getting there its a slow process but have felt better than i have in years, im not 100% but still. Please get fully checked out first as you may be dealing with something completely different. Dr Mazen will see you right. Many intestinal disorders have similar symptoms, which can make diagnosis difficult. [u'>Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (which includes both Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, collectively known as IBD) in particular have several symptoms in common[/u'>. The differences between IBD and IBS are actually significant, although it might not seem that way on the surface. IBS and Ulcerative Colitis Are Different IBS is often confused with ulcerative colitis or colitis, but they are not the same condition. IBS is a syndrome, not a disease, it does not lead to colon cancer, and it does not cause bleeding. Ulcerative colitis, however, is a disease, can put patients at risk for colon cancer, and bleeding is a common symptom. Differences in Treatments for IBD and IBS Therapy and medications for IBS vary hugely from those for IBD. An incorrect diagnosis and treatment plan can not only be ineffective but in some cases also be dangerous. :-) edited by egg on 05/02/2013

Highly recommend Vet Care near the arabian ranches polo club. All 3 doctors are lovely and what is really fantastic about them is the fact that they do not believe in over medicating like a lot of vets in Dubai. Also compared to other vets, they are the most reasonably priced. 04 430 9797 http://www.vetcaredubai.com/home.html Agree we saw Dr Lucas he was brilliant and the price was great, we were expecting a huge bill but it was 350 AED for everything. And agree with the not overmedicating the animals they are really very good.

My 11 year old gets 100 per month at the minute, but we buy him other stuff, he saves it and buys a game or whatever he wants, he usually has something in mind so will save it up until he has enough for what he wants.

When my DS was small (baby) i was always running around in a mad state of hurry and i lost count of the times i accidentally bashed his head on the door frame whilst he was attached the my hip running around. When he was stronger, he used to lurch backwards and literally jumped out of my arms. Always felt terrible , dont worry we all do things and hindsight is a great thing, if only i hadnt left him / her on the bed, if only i hadnt rushed through the door and bashed poor DS head. As others said we are all human and were not born perfect Mums. :-) X edited by egg on 30/01/2013

My DS (11) has been at Raffles World Academy for 4 years now and has come on absolute leaps and bounds. Had an issue part way though Grade 3 when the teacher left and they substituted for months on end but other than that no issues. He gets up everyday looking forward to going to school.

Ok from a child who went through this let me tell you what happened! My parents relationship growing up was always a little off, as kids we knew something wasnt right and we knew my Mum was severley unhappy. There were lots of arguments, shouting, walking out, slamming doors, suitcases by the door almost every week, but no one said why My Mum stayed with my Dad until i reached 17 years old, she stayed in an unhappy situation for us. When i asked her about it, she knew when i was 8 that they shouldnt be togehter anymore but she was worried what effect it would have on us. Needless to say she spent the next 9 years unhappy, lost, alone and sad, we saw this as children but we never really knew why as no one told us and tried to "hide" the issues. My Mum finally left just after i turned 17 im 35 now, she is still lonley and sad because she spent 9 years living a lie in a pretend relationship. She is with someone now but i think its only out of fear of growing old alone, not for any other reason. Dont get me wrong im not damaged by this, but knowing now that my Mum stayed for us makes me wish she had the courage to make the changes she needed to as im sure having a happy contented Mum would have made a difference, instead of a sad lonely Mum growing up, she took a lot out on us, shouting screaming banning things etc whenever she had a "spat" with Dad, because she didnt know what else to do. Just my side but seriously think about it. Good luck. Egg x

Thanks ladies . I'll change it here I think as I know for a fact to get pounds it's better here. Last time I went home I changed 3000 aed here and got 520 pounds when I changed the same amount of aed in uk I only got 456 robbery. As for using ATM there is a charge every time you use it so I like to change the money before I go, that way I'm not tempted to overspend and I stick to my budget. Thanks for the advice. Egg

Definitiely not enough if the companies are expecting you to pay for your own housing, you really should push for a housing allowance and schooling too as that will eat pretty much all of your salary. Yes most rent is paid up front in advance, some landlords may allow you to pay in 4 cheques but the lesser number of cheques you pay in the less the rent. For the 2 of you i would expect that for a 2 bedroom in MArina area you willbe looking at about 100,000 aed per annum for rent. My son is in Grade 5 and his annual school fee is approx 40,000 aed. You then have to think about school transport as you will be working your daughter will probably need to get the school bus which is about 750 AED per month. All the little things add up so if you can get housing and school allowance then thats the best thing to do. Good luck. Egg.,

I find the trick with what i call my "posh shoes" is to not go for the thin stiletto heel ones, i opt for really pretty ones that have a larger wider heel and also the front sole of the shoe needs a bit of tread like a small wedge the thin ones just hurt the balls of your feet too much. Plenty of places sell some nice sparkly fashionable wider heeled thicker soled shoes try places like Naturaliser (hit and miss with fashionable sometimes but ive a few gorgeous pairs from there) also new look and H & M sell the types im talking about with a thicker front sole and wider heel. Hope that helps, im a huuuuuge shoe and handbag fanatic but once i had my DS the stilettos were out the window Lol :-) ETA - wedges i love them perfect for me :-)

Thanks, Problem is im here in Dubai and it has to go to Germany for renewal. Website says allow up to 4 weeks, but i have the worst luck with stuff like this and know that it will end up chaos. He will have exactly 6 months to the date on his passport the day we fly back to UAE. ETA no one at home who would be able to do it for me :-( and then get it to me here in time. edited by egg on 01/01/2013 nah you dont really need 6 months left they only look at the residency visa when you come back in, thats the important piece of information. and yes here it has to go to germany which can take a long time now so there is no point in saying it only takes 9 days as we do not live in the uk. we have come back in with 4 months without even a raised eyebrow Thanks im sure it will be fine :-) Egg

Happy New Year Ladies hope 2013 is fab for you all. I have a quick question regards passports UK issued. We are travelling out of the country on 1st March returning 8th March. DS passport expires 8 Sept 2013 will he be allowed entry back in UAE with only just 6 months on his passport? Im worried about sending it off now incase it doesnt come back in time for travel? TIA Egg If he has residence it should not be an issue at all, I have entered with way less than that on mine. Great thank you, yes he has residency valid until 2014 :-)

You can order from Spinneys egg. Obviously they won't deliver but you can go into the p*** section and order a ready made, ready glazed or baked ham now and collect on a suitable date to you nearer to Xmas. Or you can order a big gammon and make it yourself which is what I'm doing. :) Think ill order a big gammon and do it myself. Thanks ladies :)

Duck for cover you may get bombarded later when everyone wakes Lol I use hollywood tans on beach road in beach plaza (big blue building) Only other i know of is megasunlounge i think its media city (they have a website) Dont bother with gold salon in Al Attar tower they dont change the tubes and its rubbish they only have 1 stand up. Hollywood tans is by far the cleanest and nicest i have been to you can buy a book of sessions but its pricey here i got a nice base tan with 5 sessions. Egg X

It is to some people amazing, personally i thoroughly enjoyed the books but you will never get everything in the book in the film, there were parts missed out etc. I preferred the books but enjoyed the movies too, is it not personal choice what one person likes another wont, everyones is entitled to their opinions some people will think its amazing simply because its a franchise and they have watched them all as they have been released. As for part 2 i liked it. :)
