my husband just went to the immigration office to issue the visa for our new srilankan maid who is here on a tourist visa. He was told that it is no longer possible to issue the visa while she is in the country . What are our option now? I do not want to send her to Kish and sri lanka would be our last resort. edited by Eli1979 on 07/11/2013

Thanks Denim! Do you live there? We have been considering moving there for the past 2 years as DH' s office is there and although the community is perfect for us , we did not take the plunge due to emicool. Is it really that bad? Where we live now , we pay 3000 in the summer ( april-october) and 1000 the rest of the year. Can it be higher then this, you think? How is this emicool bill calculated?

why don't you just live in your own house ? it's a 1 bed appt bought before we had children. We are now in 6 so we need a big house :) Clairehdp - did you take your landlord to court after the new 12 months notice law was passed ? From what I have been told , if he wishes to sell and gives you a 12 months notice , then you have to go. I am particularly bitter today as I just received a notice from my landlord to vacate..We get that every year and it's just their way of asking for an increase..

I do not like the law because it still allows a way for the landlord to kick out the tenant with the excuse of wanting to sell. I am a tenant and a landlord at the same time and as a tenant I had to pay a major increase every year as I have small children and do not want to move. Our landlord would have gave us a notice to sell unless he was happy with the renewal amount. On the other hand , my tenant is paying 30-40 % less then the market price and has been in the property for the past 3 years. We are losing on both sides because we have ethic and cannot bully my tenant into paying us more money like our landlord is doing with us. How is that fair?? At the end of the day, when it's time to pay the mortgage that is not covered by the rent because of this very reason , when i have to cut down on my monthly expenses as i have to be able to pay it , i just hate this system and I would much prefer to have the market free because today, only the unscrupulous ones win. edited by Eli1979 on 03/11/2013

My son is a july baby and i have decided to keep him back one year. He was just not ready. There are studies that show that older children perform better and i just dont want him to struggle for the rest of his academic life. If i can avoid all this why not? So far i have registered him for horizon, safa , gems wellington , dess and they were all ok with it. edited by Eli1979 on 29/10/2013

Google Gerson therapy/ gerson institute. I've met someone that cured skin cancer by following their protocol. The web is full of success stories. Also check Gerson miracle , the beautiful truth and other related documentaries on youtube. The person i know was in their clinic in Hungary.

Important rule for life - NEVER automatically believe any article you read on the internet unless you are certain of the credentials and motives of those behind it. I just spent five minutes researching the Centre for Research on Globalization (the organisation that published the article) and discovered that it's not a highly-regarded scientific entity, it's essentially a one-man think-tank that will publish unsolicited submissions *without* checking them for scientific accuracy first. That doesn't mean that the article is flat-out wrong, but it certainly doesn't mean that you should just believe it. Fukushima is a serious and ongoing situation, but if you want to know the real risks involved, you need to do some proper research and read the opinions of recognised experts. Google is your friend here. edited by Madge_Gustard on 25/10/2013 I did that also .I know that website is not the best, i just liked the way they explained everything. The trouble is i found the same info all over the internet , including newspaper articles , etc. . For this reason i wanted to know if others had looked into it..

Wow, that sounds exactly like my ex maid ... in both examples !!l lol :) Hi Dusha I feel compelled to share my experience with you, since like you I allowed my nice, honest and hardworking maid wifi access in our home to chat with her family and kids. She was addicted to facebook. She was with us three months when I noticed she was always on her phone and even when she was taking care of my baby (the whole reason for employing her). After telling her to access her phone only after the baby was asleep at night and all her work was done, she would still keep texting or whatever when I was in the room. She would also take the phone to the bathroom (for what?). Very annoying and extremely concerning. I could also tell from her behavior that she could not wait for me to leave the house whenever I had to run errands. I started to feel uncomfortable in my own home and could not sleep at night. Had to do sth about it. I managed to get her separated from her phone for a bit and scanned it immediately (I know its wrong, invasion of privacy and all that. but my instinct told me otherwise). On her phone I saw that she was 'sexting' and skyping random strangers and sending them naked pics of herself (taken in MY bathroom). She was also making arrangements to meet some guy in MY home. She is married with two kids and her husband works in another gcc country. Or so she tells me. Now what she does with her personal life, and who she wants to be with is none of my business. But when it starts to affect the safety of my child, the security of my home and safety/reputation of my husband (her sponsor), I draw the line. I immediately cancelled her visa and she was on the next flight home. No explanation was sought or offered. She understood exactly why I asked her to pack her bags. The look on her face was one of pure shame. Lost a lot of money but regained my peace of mind. I don't want to alarm you but want to warn you and other EWrs about what you should watch out for. quote=Dusha'>Hey mwashington, ma I was having a big problem with my maid's phone. Whenever somebody calls she used to answer her phone with no hesitate! It was so annoying! She was also a facebook addicted since I let her use our wifi. One day when I asked her to help me with something for cooking, she heard her phone rings. So she answered and talked until I finished the work that she was told to do. I felt so bad and was very angry. But didn't take any action right after as she is the one taking care of my baby. I waited until I see some more mistakes. So there was a day I had to speak to her all about this. First I noticed she felt very bad but from next day I saw she wasn't doing the same and it was much much better! She is a nice, honest girl, I like her edited by Eli1979 on 06/09/2013

We just came out of a maid situation ourselves, albeit much worse than yours. We bent over our backs to accommodate her needs as she asked to be allowed to stay here. She was a nightmare to be around and for months she was not able to find a job by herself and started asking for more and more assistance every time. I ended up writing her job adds, place them on dubizzle and classifieds here, teach her how to interview , drive her around, and eventually LYE and give her references as nobody would have hired her otherwise. All this because I desperately wanted her out of my house and life as I just gave birth .I just did not have the heart to send her home as she begged and cried every time I went close to do that. Meanwhile her behavior did not improve and kept doing the things she was fired for. When she finally got a job, the new family got to know the truth shortly after. We were mortified and embarrassed, could not apologize more, offered to reimburse all the visa costs and ticket but did not hear from them again. Some days later i came to know the maid has been saying around that she was sent away as I was crazy and jealous of her because DH liked her! They are capable of saying anything so just think about yourself and your family and ship her home! Please tell your DH our story, I bet he will change his mind! edited by Eli1979 on 23/05/2013 wow - i guess that's karma for lying to get rid of a dud maid.... I guess you can put it this way, however , It is very hard to say no when you see a grown up woman crying and begging not to be sent home. It is something I have to learn how to do before I hire another maid, for sure!

Hi an update and another advice... I decided to cancel her visa, but I am not sure how to proceed. She is a live out maid, what adds to the complication, I cannot force her to leave, because I cannot go to her house, force her to pack and go. To be honest I don't want to do it either. She is living in Dubai for 7 years now, she lives with her daughters, the 3 of them share the rent, so it is important that she stays, I doubt she will do something crazy, I think that like me she wants a way out, she has some kind of illusion that she will find someone like her former employer and any other house would be better because she could take 2 months of vacation (she keeps telling me that all her friends spend 2 months in the summer away) or it would be closer to her house (to be honest here is far for her, but it was her option, she had another job offer at the time I hired her and she preferred to work for us). Anyway, I only want her out of our house, but I don't want to destroy her life sending her back. I can cancel her visa or even give her some time to find another job, when I hired her it was her situation, she was still in the country looking for a job. the previous employer cancelled the visa when I confirmed I was going to hire her, as they were leaving soon. what should I do? I know that most of you will tell me to be harsh, but end of the day she never did anything so bad, she is not hard working and she thinks I am a push over, but she never stole or did anything really harmful to any of us. Has anyone been in the same situation with a leave out maid? Please consider all the implications before you decide to let her stay. I did the same , as i did not want to "ruin her life " but then she was not able to find a job without references and everybody was wary about why she was leaving only 4 months into her visa. We ended up covering her up and told everyone we were leaving (yes i know, stupid thing to do for a maid). I even write the adds for her on the classifieds and gave her tips for the interviews. Anyway, it's a small world , the new family came to know and everything backfired at us, while the maid could not care less. She still goes around saying the madam was a b ***** :) :) :) I think i am done with maids forever! edited by Eli1979 on 21/05/2013

To have an idea of what might happen with the pictures, my maid was sending the pictures of her previous employer's kid to some random guys she was chatting with online. When i found out about it, i made her delete all the pictures she had of my kids. They are quite stupid to be honest and they share the pictures with everyone , even ppl they don't know, post in in Facebook, etc edited by Eli1979 on 19/05/2013

I just had them over last week for a quote. They insisted that all of the units needed to be cleaned , even the ones which we never turn on , as the air will be circulated everywhere . I am sure they are good but their prices are OUTRAGEOUS. I live in a Cordoba in The Villa, which is a 5 bedroom villa with 7 A/C units. They told me they charge per living space and not per unit so for the kitchen and breakfast area I was charged twice. They also told me some of the units are particular and needed extra work to be cleaned and ofc those will be charged more. At the end, the final quotation was of 6000 aed. Luckily I have had the inspiration to contact others for a second opinion and finally went with EPSCO who did a wonderful job for 2700. I also got a quote from Churchill which was 3500 AED. I cannot imagine what Saniservice will be doing so different from EPSCO to justify a 3000 dirhams difference??? edited by Eli1979 on 12/03/2013

A similar thing happened to me with one of the tailors at Dream Girls. I still feel sick when I think about it as I did not do anything about it, except getting out of there and never going back. I will also never ever use a male tailor in this part of the world again.

For my beauty needs :) i always book feel pink or before they closed down Brush @ Co . The service is as good as in a salon but it's all done in the comfort of your house. DS is always sitting next to me watching tv together or with a book or some toys. This way i can still be with him , have my mani/pedi and also avoid the time wasted in driving to a salon. They also charge more or less the same as a salon so why not? edited by Eli1979 on 24/02/2013

It's great that you have taught your LO to be gentle, my LO is a gentle soul too however when at play dates or play centres I would correct other children that tried to take toys from my LO -of course I would do this gently, holding the toy and saying Sienna was playing with that first and handing it back to her and its the same vice-versa, if I see my LO bee lining for a toy that is being played with I always hold the toy and take my LOs hand off it saying 'no no this baby had it first'. ..Nobody has ever complained that I shouldn't react this way, most parents would tell their child the same if they saw it happening. I think showing him that its not right to take toys off of another child is not right, even if that means telling the other child to give the toy back to your LO -once he realises its ok to stand up for him/her self, I'm sure she/he will get stuck in. ;) Thanks for that.. I always felt uncomfortable telling off other kids about taking his toys, pushing him etc but I guess it's time to start doing it as obviously my son is not getting a right message and cannot enjoy a single play date or an hour at the park as he is constantly crying and running to me for hugs :(

Thanks everyone. I also remember being the only one that paid commisions when i purchased this property. It was strange to see that line in the BH agreement . Sandy123, I would love to have the number of the agent that helped your friend, please. I also heard BH are not that good, it was just the first name that came into my head to call. But, from the look of it they are far too complicated to deal with. Any recommendation for agents to contact will be greatly appreciated.

The said maid is now available and looking for another job. We have tried for a month but unfortunately it is just not working for us. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the girl and most probably it's me being too fussy but she just does not fit well in our family. She is sooooo quiet and I have a young son and another one on the way and I need someone playful and cheerful around the house. She was great with all other things and she would like to stay in Dubai so if anybody needs a maid and interested in meeting her please let me know. I will also put it on the classifieds today. She has 4 years Dubai experience working for a local family , 35 years old , Filipina.

I've got no idea on safety comparisons with trampolines and bouncy castles but I've got a springless trampoline which is brilliant and meant to be the safest design you can get. No springs to slip through and you can't fall down the side of the net. No doubt there is the same possibility of neck and spine injuries as with any bouncing thing but my kids haven't hurt themselves yet. Plenty of injuries falling off bikes and scooters though, you can't wrap them in cotton wool. http://www.springfreetrampoline.com/ As far as I'm aware the only Dubai stockist is The Toy Store. That's exactly what i was thinking of buying- the oval one and want to install it at ground level as it looks better in the garden and it is safer. I guess the neck and spine injury part it's my only worry and just need to take all precautions when in use, as I believe it can only happen if they do flips and summersaults, isn't it?

I used to have a mango tree which was planted in full sun and was doing great. When we moved houses, i diged out my entire garden and kept the plants in pots untill planted in the new house. The mango and all my other fruit trees were in bloom but i had to cut them all down a lort in order for them to survive the move. I decided not to cut the mango tree as it was full of flowers and looked amazing. It was the ONLY plant that did not survive:( . My grape vine looked dead for more than 4 months untill one day when it finally got new shoots. Don't give up. Just keep watering and remove the dead leaves .

I have done this on Tuesday last. The lady had her visa cancelled by her previous employer and had 30 days grace so her cancellation paper said she must leave the country before 25th. In order to sponsor, I needed my tenancy contract which was registered for Ejari in the Land Department. I went to the Land Department first and got the tenancy contract registered. To do this I needed something from DEWA to say that it was in my name, the title deed to the property and the original lease from the landlord to me. Then I went to the Immigration Office near Trade Centre roundabout with a copy of my passport, copy of my visa, copy of the maid's passport, her original passport, passport photos, visa cancellation document and my salary cert. I went to the typing centre outside of the Immigration Department and had the application form typed. Then I went back into Residency section of Immigration building. It is not necessary for the lady to leave the country and re-enter. You can pay for a change of status (AED 610). Immigration sent me back to typing centre for them to type change of status application. I returned to the Residency Section and they processed the change of status. The document that they gave me said that the visa needs to be completed by end of December so I guess they give me 2 months to get medical done and return to Immigration to get final visa. Hope this helps. Thank you so much Bee! I have everything ready but one thing , which is her original passport. Did they actually asked to see it? Is a copy not enough?
