We are with AXA and if we stay within their network (which is extensive and covers all areas) they will pay the charges on direct billing. However, we can go outside the network but they will only pay 'what is usual and customary'. We would then have to pay the difference between the charges they have agreed with their network and what we have paid to someone outside it. It would also then be necessary for us to pay and claim back from AXA. Maybe this is something your provider would do and you could then use the hospital you have close to you. Exactly thats what I am trying to do. We've been given absolutely no information what so ever on our network, what the cover is, what hospitals we can go to, its causing me lots of stress! All I know is we can't use the Welcare clinic on our doorstep. Just looked online to see if I could find any info on what our network is but I couldn't see anything....we're with Oman Insurance, and the network is Category 1...anyone else have this. I'm trying to work out where our nearest A&E would be from Mirdif, specifically for the kids

and if your residents' visa is cancelled am I correct in understanding you only have 30 days to leave? Well 30 days in which to either leave or get another sponsorship and a new visa. If not you get charge over stay. ah I see, well 30 days is ok to organise shippers, transfer money out etc... what happens to loans? There must have been lots of people with car loans when the recession hit ? what happened to the banks here?

Have always used Medcare Safa for various things and always been happy there. I will be living in Mirdif, these hospitals are so far away especially is there is an emergency.

I would suggest that instead of using short-fixed, visit a doctor. The best bet is to visit a GP and based on his diagnosis, get a referral to a dermatologist or endocrinologist. For a dermatologist, I can recommend [url=http://www.zoominfo.com/#!search/profile/person?personId=1527435170&targetid=profile'>Dr Jobeetha Yusuf[/url'> at Al Zahra - she diagnosed the reason for my hair loss and prescribed vitamins and topical solutions that were really helpful. 1. Ladies in the ME tend to over style and over wash their hair. 2. Less washing, use less products 3. Massage your scalp to stimulate blood - apply quite a lot of pressure 4. Most importantly get some blood tests - hair loss is usually hormonal, or vitamin deficiency. 5. Try and eat a more natural diet, more fruits and vegetables, cut out all processed food, and and minimize dairy here - swtich to rice milk or soya...rice milk is better although takes a bit of getting used. Or maybe an EW'er can recommend a tried and tested trichologist

I recently got curtains (black out and cheer) for my whole apartment and was really pleased with the work. I used Jamal at Golden Scissors. Alot of people on here recommend him so can give you his contact details if you are interested. yes please! I wondered why I wasn't getting any response to my post, but did a search and realized the whole curtain has been done before.

I use to use slingbox a few yrs ago but don't bother anymore. As I can watch live telly on bbc1 and itv and watch previous nights episodes etc on the Internet and it costs nothing. The quality is much better then the sling box. I don't even need to download anymore. I use iPad apps connect my telco iPad and I have uk telly for free :) edited by fairycakeyumm on 27/06/2012 if you have a good enough speed the quality is excellent - we pay for it anyway so it doesn't cost us any more to use plus i find downloading stuff a complete pain in the @rse tbh...we have the full tv package of all the cable channels plus the "on demand" and recording options...but it's no use if you don't have a connected box in the UK lol I wish I'd known about the sling box options when I was back in UK, I could have sorted out with a friend of mine, but we've rented out our house so sling box is not an option for us....such a shame

Local tv is useless. Don't bother with it. We use netflix with a vpn and download everything we want to watch. So do you watch everything on your computer? or do you connect your laptop to the TV and watch it that....infact can someone explain how that works.. I wish I knew about the sling box option before I came out here. infact can you email me elkaiduk at gmail dot com and let me know a few details, i.e name of software etc... so perhaps a friend can help me out back in UK ...new season homeland starts September !!! and I need to keep up with Games of Thrones !!

I have 3 daughters, 1 going into year 6, 1 going into year 2 and 1 starting FS1 for this September. Now they all have places in Gems Wellington DSO, went on sch visit its a lovely place can't fault it on first impressions - However I am realising in order to pay the school fees, I'm going to have to go back to work or we find a cheaper school. Back in the UK the girls were at a lovely school in Surbiton, and they were doing so well, so I don't want to compromise, but for me to go back to work is going to be difficult as would have to get a maid/nanny who is sensible and can drive and do all the running around... I don't know how realistic that would be... or I stay at home and we change schools to easier fees. We're going to be living in Mirdiff...any suggestions on schools which are pretty good and slightly more affordable

If you are going to be living in Mirdif, Welcare Clinic at Uptown Mirdif is open till 9pm and they are wonderful. Dr Ng is a wonderful family Doctor. I have had several emergencies with my DS and DH and cannot speak more highly of the care we have received anytime of the day and night up until 9pm. After that City Hospital is the best place to go. Taxis in the Mirdif area are usually very quick unless it's a Thursday night. As for the heat.... summer is not nice in Dubai with children and most of the time it's exhausting for adults unless you are happy to stay at home (or get into the cool of the Malls so as not to get cabin fever )and if you don't have children that need to be occupied. I don't have small children so it's not so much of a problem. The rest of the year is wonderful! Don't worry about medical facilities in Dubai. The City Hospital is very good. Dubai is a great place to live! I'm just looking at the list of hospitals on the list provided by my husbands work and can't find any of these places on the list :(

We're going to be living in Mirdif so where would be our emergencies rooms in that area, specifically ones well equipped for kids. I think a mistake I made here was trying to replicate what I do in UK, in UK I do several things in a morning, and its nothing to jump in and out of the car, but here its one thing per day and thats it. I thought I would have been alright, as I had grown in the ME and also been out of the ME most of my life but I suppose this time, I am older, and have children and that changes everything.

Ummm...years? Figure out where you live (or will be living) and search/ask on here for hospitals with GOOD emergency rooms and where they are in relation to where you live. Get recommendations for good paediatricians and GP's and fid the location for those. I would highly recommend buying the Explorer Dubai Atlas (the big book one, not the fold-out one) and mark the locations on the pages in red pen. Stick notes on it with the map numbers for the hospitals and doctors so you know at a glance which page to go to. Take a morning and drive to the hospitals and doctors so you have an idea where they are. Once you know these places exist and have an idea where they are, then some of the fear is removed. That is very good advice Sandy Dogg, you're right once I know these places I will feel a bit better....So assuming I can buy the Explorer Dubai Atlas at Spinneys? I will be living in the Mirdiff Area

Ahh ok thanks for will check out the Arabian Centre. I like Spinneys for the fresh produce, but the store cupboard could shop cheaper else where. I'm going to check the Nursery today, will be great if I can get little in for the summer. But for September my girls are in Gems Welly in DSO. Not sure what the drive is going to be like though. I wanted to get the girls in for swimming especially the little ones.

Hi Thanks for your reply....Dubai Holiday Camps? is that something I google in general or is it a name of something that is actually run? I think I will try and get the little one into Emirate British Nursery, is it in Mirdif? Tell me what you like about Mirdif.... I've been to Uptown, checked out Spinney's and went there one evening with the kids, the kids enjoyed the food court something for everyone, and we also went to Mishrif park which is nice as its on your door step.

Hi GA, You surely are not alone. I suffer from really bad hair loss myself. Been to so many doctors but no luck. Please do let us know of the progress you make. Will help us all here. Good luck Hair loss is often a sign of another underlying condition. Hair Loss is a symptom of that condition. Have you had a complete blood test done. B12 deficiency, and Anemia can cause hair loss. Whats your diet like? lots of fruit and vegetables? lots of greens for minerals? less fat, too much fat in the diet can cause hair loss.

I've been juicing and making smoothies for three years now. I have done many juice fasts, I normal don't do it for more than a week though, some people go longer and thats fine. I make sure my juices have plenty of greens in, especially celery as its high in electrolytes. You can drink as much as you like when juice fasting the idea is not to feel hungry. Always start you day with a green juice, and then followed by fruit juices mixed with greens, the last juices of the day should be vegetable juices. Don't mix fruit and vegetables together.

aren't they called cornrows? and does the hairdresser have to be black? yes sometimes called corn rows, I suppose it does have to be someone who is familiar with black hair because if you don't know how to work with it you won't know how to corn row it. because it has to be washed, blow dried and brushed first, in a certain way. Its for my daugthers 9 and 6, they have mixed race hair but still needs to be treated as black hair.

I have a friend who has taken her dd out of JESS as she's really unhappy with the standard of teaching. This is however just her personal experience. If I were you I would get a cross section of people's opinions. Just because it has a long waiting list doesn't mean it's a good school. I currently have children at GEMS DSO and I'm very pleased with the school so far. my DS is due to start in FS1 in Sept and I must say I have a few reservations due to the fact that there are rumours that there will be 15 classes in his year alone. This is a profit making business and I wonder how greedy they are being and to what extent this will impact the children. I guess only time will tell. Good luck with your decision. I guess as parents we will always question whether we've made the right choices. I've been offered 3 places at GEMS dso for FS1, year 2 and year 6 for my 3 daughters. We will be living in Mirdiff, so a little bothered about the journey as I will have to pick ups. It is a huge school so maybe they can accommodate 15 classes as long as the pupil numbers in each class doesn't exceed 25, and they have plenty of assisstants in each class.

just wondering what the process is for a hiring a maid, DH is currently processing his residency visa through his work, so I understand we can't do anything until we have a home and he has his residency. However looking on the classified section I saw a few maids looking for work on visit visas. Would it be a case of (when the time is right) looking through the classifieds, interviewing then we find someone if their on a visit visa we process them with DH being the sponsor...just need some guidance on this please

i was thinking more of the online shopping they have in the Uk like Tesco's or Asda type. So easy, so convenient and a huge van delivers your goods at your chosen time. I don't like delivery in Dubai. I'm not at all comfortable with some poor guy coming to my house to bring me a few items, I'd rather go get it myself. Talking of groceries. Fruit and Veg??? Only been here 2 weeks but my digestive system has been suffering in all respects :) I've come from Italy were fruits and veggies are plentiful, fresh, tasty and cheap. Here I'm paying a fortune and everything is tastless! Are there particular shops I should be getting these from? I'm really desperate now as I've never eaten such bad fruit and veg and I'm doubting the vitimin value now since I feel so bad. I'm vegetarian so I don't buy the meat anyway but I see they have a better deal in terms of price, don't know about the quality. :) Have your tried the fruit and veggies at the RIPE Organic market, much better variety and quality and organic too. [url=http://www.ripeme.com/ripe-market/market/3/Ripe-at-Dubai-Garden-Centre'>link[/url'> Fantastic I have been looking for something like this...Thank you.

Hi ladies, I am struggling with a bad case of periosititis, inflammation in the lower part of the legs that often comes from running and exercising. Does anyone of you know of a sports store in Dubai where you can run on a treadmill for the salesperson to take a look at exactly how you move your foot, so you can have the perfect shoe to help ease this inflammation? I really want to make sure that I have the best shoe possible to prevent this from getting worse. :-) If you have any other good device concerning this I would very much appreciate it too! Thanx! swelling of the ankles and lower legs isn't necessarily from your shoes, your salt intake may be rather high and not enough hydration.

I don't have a particular doctor to recommend, but sounds like there are some good ones below! Necessary to go, to rule out anything that could be serious. I went through something similar to this when I first moved here, to the extent you are describing. Although my solution was as simple as doubling my water intake and adding more minerals/vitamins--you will never know until you go, and best before your imagination goes bonkers :) Get a cbc - complete blood count done, including Vit D thats a good starting point

But lately my body is feeling soar, I feel like a 70-year old person with stiff limbs and joints that hurt, especially my knees, elbows and my back, my body just hurts all the time for no reason. Always tired. I have also started to loose a lot of hair. :-( Can You please recommend a good doctor in general medicine? Or have You felt like this and have some advise? we had 7 glorious years in Dubai, enjoyed every minute of it and returned to UK totally by choice, 5 years after the original planned return date!! my top tip, don't get consumed by the idea that you are a V VIP just because there are suddenly lots of layers of society below you. Remember your manners, remember courtesy and always try to do one nice thing a day for someone less fortunate than you. You will find lots of people less fortunate than yourself but remember they are human and trying their best to support their families, often in very difficult circumstances. Be charitable and humble. Also immerse yourself in the region, travel as much as you can and get out of your comfort zone. You'll get opportunities that you'll never get again, take them. Don't be one of these that heads back to UK every 5 minutes and returns with a case full of "english" food. Good luck though, it's a great place for families with kids under 10 and if you make the most of it, will be a life enriching experience. well I think that is very good advice and I will certainly take that on board ! Thanks you

You get out of the UAE what you are willing to put in to it! IMO. Get out there, meet different people, eat different food, do different things, (at different hours of the day!) go swimming in the sea at night, have a 5 AED breakfast in karama, celebrate ramadan/eid, meet your neighbours, explore the old areas of dubai, don't spend your life in malls and posh hotels, walk round the park in the dark if it's too hot in the day, drive to the mountains, camp in the desert, snorkel on the east coast, stay real!! well that sounds like the sort of thing I would love to do, I'm not really into shopping, I only go when I need something.

Healthy Eating and exercise is the only way. Cut out alcohol, tea, coffee, all processed foods. I would even cut out meat, oils, fried foods, chocolates, cakes, biscuits. Try and stick to a natural diet as much as possible. Buy a juicer and replace your morning tea or coffee with a fresh juice. Breakfast lots of fruit. lunch, salad and fish or grilled chicken and vegetables. Dinner - something simpler, drinks at least 2 litres of water a day. Use www.fitday.com to track your calorie intake. Get your calories to 2000 per day. Good luck By the way I have had three children, no c-sections though, and my belly is completely flat by just eating healthy and lots of yoga.
