I love mini-desserts specially in the summertime cause I think its too hot for a big plate of sweet! I make a trifle with crumbed coffee cake as the base, jell-o french vanilla pudding as a second layer, Cadbury Flakes as a third layer and cherry on top The flavors work really well together and the best part (for me, at least) is that its not overpoweringly sweet

Just saw that you booked Al Muna already -- its a really nice brunch, enjoy! :) I think the Entertainer is also offering Friday Brunch at Jumeira Rotana and Towers Rotana for this month. Am planning to try the Flavours on Two at Towers Rotana -- Any reviews?

Anyone tried the new one on Jumeirah Road called Bosphorus? My Turkish BIL tried and said it was really bad - not like real Turkish food. I thought it was overpriced, specially the tea .. I'm used to complimentary or nominally priced tea in Turkish restaurants But it is pretty venue for the cooler months to have shisha and watch the cars on Jumeirah Road

Sounds like a very unfair generalization, OP! We've been using the HP Photosmart C3183 and never had any technical problems with it. We buy ink cartridges for it from Sharaf DG and the color cartridge is always in stock. Rarely, the black color cartridge is not available but we always buy a couple extra to be on the safe side. Recently, we've also discovered a stationery shop in Barsha - next to the Galadari Driving Center - which does very reasonable refills. <em>edited by em2san on 03/06/2012</em>

Surprisingly, quite a few good Turkish restaurants have sprung up in the last couple of years -- specially in the New Dubai area ... I've heard rave reviews about the Mixed Grill at [b'>Kosebasi, JBR[/b'> but personally find their food so-so [b'>Harput in Barsha[/b'> has the best Lahmacun I love the Turkish Breakfast and the Kuru Fasulye at [b'>Marmaris, Central Business Towers[/b'> And [b'>Anatolia, Ibn Batutta[/b'> does an amazing Doner Sandwich and OMG! The Kunefe there is *divine*

I'm sorry that your daughter had to see that bit of rudeness. But from my understanding, one is not supposed to overtake from the right, so you should have changed lanes to the third lane and allowed the Ford that was tail-gating you to continue on the "fast-er" lane.

@Ioranaji: Whether she is under her fathers/husbands sponsorship is irrelevant. To be legally employed/working, you need a valid labor permit. This card is issued by a company with the consent of the primary sponsor. It does not matter if she is teaching one person or running an institute, she is earning income without the proper documentation. @Kelly1814: If you want to learn spoken Arabic with the local dialect, the best place to learn from would be the Sheikh Mohammed Center for Cultural Understanding. They run group classes at different timings but you could contact them and see if any of their tutors is available to teach off-site.

You'll need to be more specific, Irooni! Chaat is just a Hindi/Urdu word for savory snack. Do you want a recipe for Aloo Chana Chaat (Potatoes, Chickpeas and Tomatoes in Tamarind Sauce) or Dahi Bara Chaat (Lentil Dumpling in Yogurt) or Papdi Chaat (Potatoes, Chickpeas, Yogurt, Green Chutney and Fried Crackers)?

Hello! If you live in the New Dubai area then you head North on Sheikh Zayed Road and from the Trade Centre Roundabout, take the exit for Satwa/Jumeira. You will approach another (smaller) roundabout, take a left from there and you will be in the Satwa clothes market. On the right side of the road, there is a line of shops that sell fabric. I can't remember the name but there are a couple that stock really good quality cotton (very soft and pretty prints and colors) plus some flannel-ly sort of material that would also be perfect for children pjs. Recommendations really depend on what price range you're interested in .. If you want excellent quality and a variety of Eastern and Western cuts: Check out Bareeze, Junaid Jamshed's "J." in Meena Bazar. Also, in Dubai Festival City - you will find Khaadi. And in Lamcy, you can take a look at Nishat Linen.

Considering the calibre of people working in these positions (clueless and mostly unhelpful) am v surprised that years of experience is required. Perhaps having that amount of attitude develops only after a certain amount of time? In that case, your friend will be a breath of fresh air! Again, surely regardless of what it says on a website, your friend should have more get up and go and initiative to get out there and sort himself out. Many people don't meet requirements for jobs but they still don't hesitate to put themselves out there. I fear for the future with this younger generation, they want everything spoonfeed to them!. Okay. I don't really get what I (or my friend or our generation) did to annoy you :) He's not looking to be spoonfed, he's looking for a little direction. I did mention that he wants to approach these companies directly but wants to have an idea of what they're looking for. Besides his resume, and any letters of references .. What else should he be carrying with him?

Hello, So I have a friend in his early 20's who's doing his Bachelors in Business Administration in an evening program. He has scheduled his mornings free as he is eager to work in auto sales position at Ford/Dodge or similar showroom. However, he is a bit clueless and so I hope one of you ladies will be able to provide information about what kind of education/experience these showroom would require? And also, do the vacancies for such jobs appear on the website or should he go around dropping his resume and requesting interviews at the showroom offices? And lastly, this is a long shot but would anybody have any "wasta" through which he can approach these companies. TIA! -Em

Does the language school know that you are contracted for full-time employment? My understanding is that to work part-time in the UAE, you either need to be under the sponsorship of your father/husband. Or if you are on employment visa, then you need an NOC from your sponsor. <em>edited by em2san on 30/01/2012</em>

I live in the Springs and walk my pooch around the lakes and I'm sick and tired of seeing poop everywhere. I wrote to Emaar to ask if they'd send out a flyer reminding pet owners to scoop their poop - I got no reply! Emaar did actually send out a couple of leaflets in the last couple of months regarding cleaning up after pets. I'd say they're sick to death of the topic because the last one was quite harshly worded and indicated that the municipality or even the police may be called to step in and deal with pet owners who continued to ignore community rules. Really? I never received anything. But that's good to hear. Maybe they should make some signs to put up in the grassy areas. We live in the greens and the leaflets were slipped under our door. If I find a copy of them, I'll post the exact message. I did suggest to the security guard that a copy of the notice should be posted on the community notice boards in Choithram, et cetera but he didn't seem very interested :) My fault, really, its not his area

Never used the shopping vouchers. Used the taste BOGOF vouchers for Wendy's, Fatburger, et cetera to grab a quick bite. Would think Pizza Express and Dome vouchers, et cetera would be useful too. The thing is I'm so used to the Entertainer books and find it a bit of a hassle to go through 4 separate books to look for a deal :S

I'm old, lazy and unfit, and I wouldn't manage it in this heat. Even in winter, I couldn't do it. Not even from the Internet City Metro, which is the nearest to it. what about if you're young, trim and have bundles of energy...could you do it then? I'm kind of young, kind of trim and have bundles of energy [kind of :P'> but probably drop down dead from the heat! p.s. The good Pakistani caterers would be: BBQ Delights 04 335 9868 - 870 (Love their BBQ selection) Lasani 06 556 8171 (You must order the fried fish from here - yum!) Wrap and Roll Haandi 04 432 8564 (They offer amazing butter chicken karahi) And I also know of this Pakistani Chef who charges AED 40 per hour and will come cook in your kitchen using your ingredients. We are in the process of moving to Dubai, my husband should be there in 2 months, and my kids and I by New Years. Is a burquini something I NEED to wear? My hubby's company never mentioned anything about this. How about my 6 year old daughter? A Burqini is not something anyone NEEDS to wear in Dubai - It is a matter of choice. Dubai is fairly liberal about attire.

Wow this has already been discussed ... Just want to get the updated info about where to get it from and for how much? TIA edited by derbend on 11/09/2011 I've bought the Lara MyCozzie from their [url=http://www.mycozzie.com/about.php'>website[/url'>. It cost me AED 380 and was delivered fast. My only issue with it is that the white material is slightly transparent when wet and defeats the purpose of Hijab :S So I'd suggest going with a dark colored one. If you want to try it on before you order it online, I think they stock it in GO Sport, Mall of the Emirates and also at the swimwear shop in Dubai Marina Mall. I haven't bought it yet but am planning to buy the [url=http://uae.souq.com/Muslimah-Swimsuit-ZEHBA-BKBK01-2009-Design-UK-Size-12-14-Medium/9675314-EN/?item_list=SOuq_adsearch&offset=3&total_hits=5&s_preserve_sort=1&q=s_seller_id%3D283435%26show_rating%3D1%26go%3DGO'>Zehba Muslimah Swimwear[/url'> from souq based on a recommendation by a friend. <em>edited by em2san on 11/09/2011</em>

Studio 8 does stock bridal wear but it is very expensive and the variety is also limited. Manish Malhotra also has a flagship store in Dubai that you can check out. I don't know about Indian designers but Pakistani designers like Deepak Perwani, Sana Safinaz, Karma, Kamiar Rokni, et cetera have catered to my friends in Dubai with generally successful results. The only bad results have been when a couple of people tried to make modifications to the design but were not able to communicate it properly to the designer. You can call at the outlets of the afore-mentioned designers and set up a phone appointment with the designer himself/herself. Before the appointment, look at their latest bridal collection on http://www.fashioncentral.pk or on their facebook pages so that you have a clear idea of what you want. For your bridal trousseau, you should take a look at the ready-to-wear clothes available in Khaadi, Bareeze, FnkAsia and Needle Impressions. HTH

So basically, take the tamarind block and boil it in a saucepan with some water. Proportions wise .. If you have a 1 inch block of tamarind, you will need about quarter a cup of water. So the tamarind will take about 10 mins to melt and get all gooey. After which, you need to use a spoon and stir it so it is evenly mixed with the water. Look at the consistency at that point and determine whether you need to add more water OR to boil it for longer until the sauce is thicker. This is the very basic tamarind sauce which is used on top of dahi ballay, et cetera. As a condiment for fried items like pakoras and samosas, use [url=http://festivals.iloveindia.com/karwa-chauth/tamarind-sauce.html'>this[/url'> recipe. HTH

Yateem Optician in Mall of the Emirates. I've used their freshlook colored contacts but with a numbered prescription. Their prices are a little more expensive [AED 30 difference'> than the optician in Lulu, Barsha but their service is much better. They had samples for trial, just not in my number but let me try the ones they had so I could finalize the color. They don't always have them in stock though and may take a couple of days to get them in shop from the Freshlook supplier but that seems to be the norm in most opticians in Dubai.
