Have you tried Eataly in Dubai Mall? Ground floor near the fountain entrance. We had the fresh mushroom ravioli from there and it was great! Would be lovely with your fresh truffles. I just used up the last of our Italian truffle oil in risotto so am slavering at the thought of your truffles. Enjoy :o)

Thanks Wed & Thomas, Wednesday, you have sort of hit it right on the head - that is really the crux of the matter, I would definitely love to spend the whole time with my family especially my nephews. My point was that we have to go out of our way to see the IL as they will not travel through choice not circumstance, they are both fairly young & fit and healthy. Yes I suppose it is selfish of me in one way as DH wants to see his folks I do see that and as I mentioned it is lovely to visit them as they live in such a gorge area. My point was that DH is not himself around them after a while so it gets a bit tense. I would rather we were all together so we can maximise the time we have and do as other pp suggested, we rent somewhere and either split the time so PIL come then my family or maybe one day, all be together. That would mean there would be 12 adults and 4 kids (at least) though, we'd need a mansion! Most of my friends are a totally different matter as I'm not English so we'd need another week to go back to my home country to see all that lot! For the time being we will just carry on the way we are - we all get together and then me and DH will go off separately to see his folks. Thanks for all your input.

Wow Asti, you're brave! Sounds like a good plan if it works for you guy. My mum would kick my butt if we did that! Maybe we should try it sometime *yikes* IOTS what a predictably provocative remark to make.

We don't have kids yet Mannikat unfortunately and it's around a 600 mile round trip. My bro has offered to come to my mums and she has offered to come to London so we can maximise our time together and cut out some travelling. We'll work it out ourselves somehow! Then we'll go to see PIL separately. Would be great if we could all congregate together in London as we're close with my bro's in laws who live in London and will also want to see us but that won't happen ha ha! Guess my real issue is PIL being different sorts of folks who like to keep to themselves instead of getting involved in the rabble of my side of the family! Ah well, different strokes and all that. They are a tiny family - 16 people in total and I on the other hand have literally hundreds of relatives!

The hotel is closed for refurbishment 'til November so don't be put off by the scaffolding outside as you drive past! You can still park in the visitors bit as Tartiflette says though. I had my hair done there once and it was fab but very expensive! AED1400 for highlights and a blow dry I have bum length hair but still...

Thanks for your comments ladies - I just miss the time I could be spending with my mum while I'm at their house while my MIL makes PA digs and waffles on about the new knickers she's made on her sewing machine :-O Yes I totally have to suck it up :o) They live in such a beautiful area it's lovely to visit and my DH really wants to see them obv. and we escape together for a breather (and a proper pub lunch mmmm). He just gets all antsy around them after a while, 2 days is really enough time before he starts to turn purple. They are very well meaning but hard to take for too long although they are much better when we are on their turf than when they come to visit us - you can cut the tension with a knife while they are here! They hold everything in and pretend you see so it's all a bit fake and uncomfy where my family are all very open and upfront (and loud) lol. I don't think we'll ever be at the stage of all playing happy families together - shame really as my parents get on so well with my bro's in laws and we can all hang out quite happily together, DH included - I think he likes the raucousness in comparison to his wee family of 3. Thanks again and SalsB that is so cool - have a great time x

Good for you SalsB & congrats on your GC! Do you stay at home or do you rent somewhere and people come to see you there? Our house in the UK is rented so we have to book into a hotel or rent somewhere if we don't stay with our folks.

Yes Geordie and though my mum suggested it, it would be awkward for all of us for that reason. We usually go back around 3 or 4 times a year for a week and try to squeeze everyone in and you're right it is exhausting. My DH really wants to see his folks as we went back this time last year and they haven't been to see us here so it's been 12 months since he last saw them. They're not the type of folk to --spend any money at all-- splash out on accommodation or driving anywhere unless it's down the road. They like their simple country life. I suppose I'd just rather be living it up in London with my bro and going shopping or for afternoon tea with my mum instead of hanging out in the sticks with PIL. Will suggest to DH that they come and meet us (won't go down well)...

Thanks for the link crazy days - thank goodness for the internet, I've found it invaluable during this whole time for info having been completely clueless basically about pregnancy and missed miscarriages. It finally happened yesterday and it was horrendous even though I knew it was coming - have been waiting long enough. Now I can start to get my act together again. I feel emotional and cheated still as this experience will cast its shadow on any future pregnancies for me as I will always be fearful that it will happen again. My plan of action until the bleeding stops completely has started today with a blitz of the house, lovely clean sheets and all the laundry done. Will have a yummy dinner with grape beverage (yahoo!) this evening with my gorgeous DH and light some candles. We had named our baby and as DH said last night - we can't use that name for any children we may have in the future as that was meant for our first baby. We are both hopeful yet apprehensive that we will go on to have a family one day - other than our fur babies anyway. Love & light to you all x

Hi all, Thanks for all the love & positive messages it really does help :o) We decided not to tell any of our family, as well meaning as they are on both sides we feel like it will be better to deal with it ourselves and remove any pressure on future pregnancies so it is lovely to have all of your support & of course good to talk about it. I got so upset the other day when I realised that I'm no longer in the November due date club which sounds completely ridiculous! It's surprising how you can be trundling along one minute then it hits you all of a sudden. Kjt I'm sorry to hear of your loss and it is wonderful that you went on to have your family. We are being positive that the same will happen for us too when the time is right. Thanks for your message. It is hard to think that it took us 6 months to conceive and then I should be 11 weeks today - so a total of 9 months give or take a few days and that has been taken away from us. Harder still that I am still not bleeding - how long is it supposed to take? I think I'll be able to move on completely once the physical side is over. I have my appointment with the doc a week tomorrow so perhaps something will happen before then. JJBaus & Sourskittleashnut - as you say perhaps our lazy boy or girl isn't supposed to appear until 2015! On a more positive note I have been enjoying cups of "full fat" builders tea which is so much more enjoyable than the de-caff stuff I bought in Spinneys. Thanks again ladies you are all a great help. x

Hi all, Just wanted to say thanks for your well wishes and support, those of you who replied were a great comfort and my DH was surprised when I read him your posts - restored his faith in humanity somewhat I think! I went to another ob/gyn for an appointment I'd made 3 weeks ago and I had a scan which confirmed that our little one stopped developing at 6 weeks 4 days. Still no bleeding and I still feel pregnant with positive pregnancy test, high temps, symptoms all still here etc. - so now we have to wait for the miscarriage to actually happen. I've to go back in 2 weeks so I hope that something will happen before then as it's already been around 2-4 weeks (depending on dates). We decided to go the natural route as I'm scared that having a D&C may cause damage. I feel good to know the outcome and no longer have a lingering hope at the back of my mind. It is so sad that our journey has ended like this but on a positive note the gyn I met today filled me with confidence. I feel positive about a future pregnancy being watched over by her. She was very straight talking and honest while being warm and supportive. My poor DH broke down once we left the docs and said that he feels so empty which breaks my heart. He is a very sensitive soul on the inside. I had already resigned myself to the fact that this is not our time so while I had the lump in my throat it wasn't such a massive shock to have it confirmed today but DH was still clinging on to the chance that there may have been a change since last week. Just wanted to say thanks to you all. Best wishes to all for healthy happy pregnancies now and in the future! EE x

Thanks Anon (& Gilly for the hugs much needed) it's good advice will just have to wait and see. I haven't had any bleeding or pain and still have all my symptoms which is strange when you don't know what is happening in there! I read one thread where someone said they wished they had a little window so you can peek in - I'm sure everyone feels like that. In a moment of levity my DH said perhaps "he" is lazy like his dad (dh was born 2 weeks late as was languishing around in there!) The limbo is the worst would like to know either way so we can move on. Now that I've gotten over the initial shock I feel better about the whole situation but I feel for my poor DH who is absolutely gutted. He was so looking forward to having a baby together. As was I but I have done so much research over the last 6 months about conception and early pregnancy that I was cautiously happy about my BFP. Must keep busy!! All the best to you all x

Well I had my first scan yesterday morning and saw the sac and the fetal pole but there is no heartbeat. They did a urine test first which was a strong positive, then they did an external ultrasound but couldn't see much so she used a transvaginal. The fetus measured 5mm so initially she said she thought I wasn't as far along and said this is not a 9 week pregnancy. Then she removed the wand and said I could get dressed and when I emerged from the curtain she said there was no heartbeat. I should have been exactly 9 weeks yesterday according to my LMP (16th Feb). I got a positive OPK on 5th March (CD18) so I'm thinking that I should be around 6 weeks 4 days based on ov & conception. I have to go back in a week for a radiology scan. She said either it's too early and we will see something next week or I will miscarry. She seemed to lean more toward the latter. Worse that she delivered it in sympathetic lowered voice which started my tears and told me there is a baby for me out there somewhere. This is my first pregnancy so have no experience of any of this. I guess there is a chance I could not be as far along - my cycles are not regular. Yesterday DH was taking a stoic we will remain positive until we know otherwise approach but you know when you just have that feeling. Then this morning I re-read the notes I had and next to pregnant she's put 'no' and in the notes it says missed ab/ - does this mean missed miscarriage? Now my DH is upset as I explained to him that it's not going to happen this time and he has hung on to the doc saying to come back in another week for another scan as hopeful news. I have taken her words to mean that the baby has already died and as she explained, they need to have it confirmed by another scan before they can take any action for the next steps - either op or to pass naturally. I haven't had any bleeding since my last period and still have symptoms like sore boobs etc. except I no longer have any nausea. I have read many stories about returning and seeing a heartbeat and of course the other alternative. Have cried my eyes out already so have to just keep getting on with things. Such a disappointment when we were hoping to return home with a picture and good news. We wanted to tell our parents yesterday as an Easter surprise ;-( Have been listening to P!nk's song Beam me up which allowed me to be sad and also cheered me up a bit. Heart goes out to all the ladies who are going through this or have gone through this the waiting really sucks. x

Forgot to ask - are you supposed to go with a full bladder before the scan? Have read that some places ask you to drink a pint of water an hour before the scan? Also for you ladies who've been already, do you get a pic to take away and do they use a 3/4D scanner? Those pictures are extraordinarily detailed! Thanks :o) x

Wow Gilly3 I read your post to my DH who said he's gonna take a leaf out of your's - yikes! Mine has been great bless him, making me cups of decaf tea & taking my psycho mood swings in his stride :o) He's been making dinner most nights too as I can't face even looking at chicken (boak) * am pretty knacked at night. I do everything else except for cleaning the cat tray which DH has now taken over by his own volition. JJBAUS your salads sound delish, I need to get with the programme and get busy in the kitchen again. I do like quinoa so will give that a whirl too - thanks for the suggestions! How about squeezing a wee bit of fresh OJ into some water or will that have the same effect as the lemon? I love watermelon juice (haven't gone off that) but I think once you start hoofing it 'round your natural water instincts will kick back in. I have my first app. with the ob/gyn tomorrow when I'll be 9 weeks exactly according to my LMP. I'm nervous and excited keeping fingers crossed that all is progressing as it should. It would be wonderful to hear/see a heartbeat just so that I can see for myself what is happening inside. Not sure what to expect as I haven't even met this gyn before :-O she gets good reviews so will find out myself soon enough! x

How is everyone getting on? Am fighting the nausea here thinking about what to have for dinner. I miss cooking so much but just can't get round to fancying anything except for pizza (mmmm) or cola bottles. Neither very nutritious! Wish I was like you Starsouthern, I can't seem to stop ramming baked goods into my face - when's the greenery craving gonna kick in?? Still no m/s for me just the nausea and it's always worse at night? Happy weekend to all :o)

Ha ha Gilly3 that is excellent work - a foot long and double crisps! I go from being a bit nauseous to being ravenous too JJBAUS and I am totally off chicken which is most inconvenient 'cause usually I love it. I have become addicted to the low fat lemon muffins from Costa though, so much so that I will be buying jar of lemon curd today. Normally I can't stand the stuff. Seekinghelp I've read that your Hcg levels off around week 10-12 which you're pretty close to now - didn't your gp/obgyn take your bloods when you visited? Still waiting for my first scan it's taking forever to come around. Still haven't had any m/s just nausea suppose I should be happy! B00bs are killing me though, have to sleep in a stretchy bandeau top. Here's a tip for those who have painfull b00bs - I have a selection of these wee tops from Koton which I wear under dresses/tops which are a bit low cut. They are great to put on at night and to sleep in. I have 36F chest pre-pregnancy G0d knows what I'll end up with! Congratulations Starsouthern, you must be an expert!

How exciting Kaamousha, we can't wait to hear the little heart beating! My first hcg was 123.4 (easy to remember!) and 2 days after was 334 so had more than doubled which doc said was good. She said to book in for 10 days to 2 weeks after for my first app. with gyn which would be some time next week. She said we should be able to hear the heartbeat by then. I think I'm actually 6w3d now she thought I was further along going by my LMP and the usual 28 day cycle at my first appointment but my cycles range from 24 to 35 days! Have a disgusting cold at the moment so feel a bit queasy anyway not sure if it's due to being preg or because of the cold. Feel a bit miserable as can't take any meds or painkillers so just sweating it out (literally) :o( Congratulations JBAUS!! I don't "feel" pregnant either really apart from some stretchy bubbly feelings & I noticed this morning that my usually delicate pink areolae are stretching ¡ Weird!!

Thanks seekinghelp, my usual gyn is on hols so I've booked with another but her first appointment isn't until 20th. I would like to go in sooner and would like to have regular check-ins too! Might see if I can get an appointment with someone else prior to that. Would love to see what is happening in there. Hi Anama congratulations to you! I don't know anything about your doc or about delivering at Medcare sorry. There are a few threads on it with some mixed reviews. I'm sure one of the other ladies will advise you.

Hi all & congratulations! I am 6 weeks now with my first pregnancy. Seekinghelp, I don't have any sickness either but I am tired and have stretchy, crampy feelings and twinges which I take as a good sign that something is happening! I have been to the doc for hcg levels after taking 4 tests at home (just to be sure ;-) but my first app. with gyn isn't until 20th April. It seems such a looooooong time away, how do you cope with waiting to see what's happening?!!

Good luck for today! Twins also run in my family - eek! On my dad's side and one of his brothers was a twin. Not sure about hospitals yet - read some stories about some which make me wince a bit :O will have to check the insurance to see which if any are included... Don't feel sick yet but feel tired like I'm having to drag myself around & have some mild crampy bubbly sensations in my abdomen which is everything stretching etc. apparently according to the doc. Want to get in there and see what's happening for myself!!

Hey congratulations Kaamousha! Thanks for your story it all helps as this is my first pregnancy and I have no clue! My bloods came back as 123.4 yesterday so I'm going back again on Thurs to check the Bhcg level. I reckon I'm about 4 weeks. I"ve looked up 'normal' levels on the internet and they vary wildly so I'm hoping they will continue to increase and will wait to see what happens on Thursday. Yours are immense are you sure you only have one in there?! High levels can indicate twins :o) Did you see anything on your scan? Did you hear the heart beats? It's so exciting & thanks for your input much appreciated x

Hi TB, Just got back from Santorini last week :) We have been looking forward to going there for years as it looks so idyllic in photos. We stayed in Imerovigli just between Fira and Oia. The bus is very regular to both places every 30 minutes and the journey to each takes about 10 minutes. There are restaurants in Imerovigli and a couple of tavernas just down the road from where we stayed - all of which you can walk to. The walks are not for the faint hearted! Very steep hills which you may or may not have to take into consideration. We didn't mind as we are a young couple. You can also walk from Fira to Oia, it's a tiny island. We had a great time where we were and enjoyed day trips into Fira and Oia but both were horrendously touristy for our liking. Hoards of people squeezing into the tiny lanes and menus with big flags representing the different languages in which the menu is written, which is not our cup of tea. We preferred chilling out where we were, nipping up to the shop to buy some local grape beverage and watching old men on donkeys go by. The tavernas near us were delish! They just make you whatever you want/is fresh basically and it is all yummy. We were in Anthonas apartments which were fab, only 5 apartments around a shared pool, but each with a private terrace. Spotlessly clean, lady cleans each day and the family who own the place are great. Good breakfasts too :) The wind is ferocious on Santorini but rather added to the romance of it for us, snuggled into blankets on our terrace watching the sunset...ahhhh We hired a car for a day and got a convertible Fiat which was very reasonable so we could zip down to the ancient city in Akrotiri and check out the wineries esp. the Sigalas Estate. We had a fab time but it depends on what you want out of it, lying on the beach all day isn't our scene. Enjoy, the food is amazing :)

Love your username :) I got the USB in Virgin in Dubai Mall in December as one of his xmas prezzies stocking filler so right on Ashes! Dunno if they were just there for xmas or an ongoing item. They had them in loads of different colours. I got him it coz he is always running out of juice on his blackberry and forgetting to lug the charger round with him. They had lots of other cool gadget type things in there which you wouldn't buy yourself but make good gifts.

Hear, hear SalsB! It's each to their own as is most stuff in life. Some of us have to work or simply want to work - my SIL for example happily tells folk that she'd go mad at home with the kids all day. She works in the office Mon-Thurs then from home on a Friday and they are all together at the weekends with my bro. It works for them, they pay a nanny (qualified one ;p they live in London) to watch the kids Mon-Thurs. My own mother thinks this is horrific as she *chose* to stay at home with us as she was a "latch key kid" and hated going home to a cold, dark house (brought up in Scotland LOL)!! Maybe it's the older generation's opinion...? *no offence to the mature ladies out there* My best mate has 3 children and works at the weekend when her DH is home and one night a week in a department store. Well over qualified for this in terms of education and experience, however it works for them. A wee bit more money coming in and gives her a chance to get out of the house for a few hours. And she enjoys it which is the most important thing. We don't have kids yet but I have always worked, while at school, throughout Uni and ever since graduation. I enjoy working and feel proud of my achievements both academically and professionally. I've worked hard to earn them and have built up a plethora of stories along the way (especially here in the UAE) stuff that would bring a tear to a glass eye :)

Good idea Ashes, Spinneys used to sell the wine fridges or try calling Jashanmal, they will deliver direct to your door. How about getting a speaker unit with the iPod/iPhone doc in it? You can also feed the TV through the speaker if you wanna 'feel' the action :) We looked at some in Plugins at the weekend and the sound quality is fab but they should also sell them in SharafDG? I got DH who is a gadget man a keyring with all different chargers on a USB, very handy for work etc. Good luck!

Pikachu, Why waste time with feeling inadequate, be the best that you can be I say - whether you choose to work or stay at home with the children. If you feel inadequate personally (or ladies who are SAHM in general) then you can always do something about that IMO. There are plenty of ladies out there struggling to have children so in either circumstance we should feel blessed that we have children at all. Love is all around *floats off*

Every couple needs date night ♥!! To each their own so there are a myriad possibilities as to how you wish to spend the time, out on the randan 'sans l'enfant' or just at home enjoying each other's company while she sleeps. As far as my DH are concerned, every night is date night for us *puke* I know!! We mix it up sometimes mostly stay in and cook a yummy dinner either together or take turns in making it or sometimes go out and let someone else take the strain :) Whatever works for the both of you I say. TDB only you know how to entice your DH away from the couch! Good luck

Erm...I think you're missing the point again lovedubai...the fact is that sharing a villa is illegal if you are not residing with FAMILY, i.e. not friends/colleagues etc. One villa one family. This law was introduced in 2007 so one should have had enough time to come to terms with it. This rule is not enforced on same s*x professionals sharing an apartment. You have to get over the villa thing and look for an apartment. Or a husband ;) "Dubai Municipality will intensify its one villa, one family campaign next month, and warned yesterday that families and landlords could face stiff fines for breaking the law. Hussain Nasser Lootah, the municipality's director general, said penalties could hit Dh50,000 (US$13,000) for violators. Additional legal action might follow, he said. "We made this announcement two years ago, and it was made very clear that sharing villas would not be allowed," Mr Lootah said. "Now we have given enough time, and there will be no more exceptions."

It IS like a family outing - wot is up with that? We (foolishly) let our previous LL have people round for viewings - mostly creepy weirdos with horrendous personal hygiene. Shouldn't have bothered as DH asked him for an extension on our lease as I was in hospital having had an op - told him we'd pay him in cash to rent it for an extra month and he told DH he'd rather have it empty. Wot a swine! We'd lived there for 2 years and left the apartment as we would expect to find it. Grrrr.

I used to get the gel done at the nail spa and that would last 3-4 weeks and I always forget to wear gloves when I was washing up. Plus I have a hands on job which involves lots of hand washing throughout the day. I found it lasts yonks and love having nails which always look freshly done. Am taking a break at the mo' to give my nails a rest but looking at their pale uninteresting state I would love them to be all shiny and bright again...p.s. nail polish on my hands last about 3 seconds after I'm out of the salon but lasts for weeks on my toes, probs coz I don't type/eat/wash etc. with my feet

There is no view but the food & service have been brilliant in The Ivy if you're after an authentic full English. DH was in his element with the real p*rk sausage, crispy bacon and black pudding. Baked beans are served separately in a nice little dish which suits my weird no beans touching other food groups rule and the tea was piping hot ;)

Cyprus rocks :D The scenery is incredible. We rented a huge villa for around GBP 500 for 7 nights (5 beds with pool & jacuzzi) in a tiny little village called Peristerona as we wanted to totally chill for a week and just have BBQ and drink lots of grape beverage! We rented a car to explore the island and found lovely fresh fish restaurants by the coast just by chance. We prefer not to stay in resorts but to be out in the sticks which sounds like what you're looking for. I used these websites might be helpful for you: http://www.rent-villas-paphos.co.uk http://www.letsrentonline.com http://www.mycypruslets.com/

Mumgomango, there are loads of ladies in your position so don't lose heart :) - sounds like you're going for it by getting out and about which is the first step. Where do you go horse riding? I used to ride and help out with the RDA in Scotland as a child/teenager. Horses were my world. Rode an imaginary one to school and back (and pretty much everywhere else) for years ;) my Dad even included that wee tidbit in his speech at my wedding *blush*

Looking at the body for life challenge now. The transformations are amazing. I am a fan of the eat less move more concept. I know I have consumed too much and not worked it off so am left with the results. I am in the obese category now which is shameful, never been this fat in my life! I lose weight easily but lack the motivation to change and follow a healthy lifestyle permanently. I am tall and have long, lean, limbs with tiny ankles and wrists but have developed a big fat belly which can be disguised with the correct clothing. I am a carb fiend which is why I have a round belly now, will put down the brown bread and hit the treadmill. I will channel Gwen Stefani's abs and work it all off so I can work my wardrobe again :)

I need to get with the program and lose 30 kilos - caught my reflection in a window the other day and thought who is that chubby person? Yikes. Need to acknowledge that I can no longer stuff my face like I did in my 20s and start looking after myself more. Oh and step away from the cheese (and the grape ;)

Me too! After I graduated Uni I got a job immediately, earning peanuts but I was earning and loved it! Felt great to have money in my account after having to walk miles to work after lectures when I couldn't even afford the bus! Certainly makes you tougher and made me appreciate the value of supporting yourself instead of relying on others/government to do it for you.

Heyjude I need the support too so I'm joining goodhabits 1st meeting this week. What's the format? Meeting, weigh in and then a talk? I need the discipline that joining a group will provide to keep me on the straight and narrow ;)

Ha ha Shabbydiva, I hear ya about the mutts :) I have 2 rescue cats sat here beside me right now and they are the business :) Naughty but crushably adorable. Thanks for the welcome! No waxworms for you Lillybucket - what sort of lizard have you got? We just got back from our 3rd trip to Sri Lanka and got some awesome shots of a chameleon who was blending into the tree beside us as we slurped our sundowners. No idea about polymers, sorry. Am creative in the kitchen if that counts?! Hey Suz, welcome to Dubai!! Hope you're settling in ok :)
