Having lived in both areas i love the VH villas compared to AR. The layout is much better. HOWEVER, the pools arent open and are tiny, we only have a little portacabin shop (although it stocks basics in case you run out of anything) and the roads arent finished in some areas. With the Al Khail roundabout closed at the moment its a nightmare getting into VH! If i could take my villa and put it in AR that would be perfect!! If you are getting a villa with a pool then i think its very liveable (sp). I just miss the pool and being able to walk to a pool on a daily basis. I also love the fact that it is green. I didnt like the landscaping of AR as its too sandy especially on windy days!

You sound very organised, or your list does!! Ill tell you what i didnt use on your list and i hope that helps. -mittens and hats (dd didnt scratch herself and we were advised not to put hats on her) -because its so hot out here she just had a thin blanket over her at night and maybe 1 for the pram when at the malls -crib, we bought a crib and a cot. dd grew out of the crib within weeks. she was in her cot at 6 weeks -i bought a comforter for her cot and like i said before it was too warm for her so its never been used!! -mattress protector- the nappy keeps everything in unless they are sick i suppose -i recommend a microwave steriliser, so easy to use and done within 5 mins! -mobile for crib-again we bought one and its never been used! -baby toys my dd didnt show any interst in these at the start, same with the play gym! but camein very handy when she got older. We used everything else on your list. Towels, maybe get 3 so you have spares when the others go in the wash (dont forget flannels). Toilettries wise we got johnsons baby bath, shampoo and lotion and not had any problems. Hope this helps :-)

I found Dr Khayat at American Hospital wonderful when dd was a newborn and had problems. She put our mind at ease and was very thorough every time we took dd to see her. However, now im taking her to the paed at Motor City Medicentres as she is just as lovely and thorough and closer to home.

Ive loved reading this thread. Thankyou. I too agree that its too easy to put your baby onto formula. Make DH do the night feeds and wake up too so he suffers from lack of sleep aswell!! A friend of mine even brags about putting her baby onto formula so that her bf has to get up in the night too!! My dd couldn't latch on as she had a medical condition that prevented this. The lactation consultant at the hospital was amazing and we kept trying her whilst i was in hospital. Because she wasnt latching the midwives came at regular intervals and expressed milk out into a little cup only getting out a little bit each time. I was then given the electric hospital pump to dit it myself and my dd continued to have EBM (her first feed was 0.5ml,bless her!). As we knew my dd couldnt latch on and i wanted to give her the best start in life, my dh went and bought our own breast pump and it was the best buy ever. I expressed every 3 hours for 5 months and built up a big supply in the freezer. At one point i had over 2 months supply of millk (good job we had a chest freezer!!). But like each of you have said, each to their own and i hope i havent offended anyone. :-)

i started my DD on baby rice to start. Gave her that for a week, and then introduced a new taste, like pureed apple, and then mixed it with a bit of pureed pear. Then added a new taste each week. Im not sure about the tummy aches though, sorry. Maybe just try the baby rice to start and see how he goes with that. Good Luck

i got mine from babyshop, they have everythign medela including freezer bags. You can also use the freezer bags and pump directly into them but i found that more difficult so i pumped into the bottles and then pured into the bags. :-)

Clair, did the doctors close up the hole fully in one operation? Can you (or your mum) remember when you were little and ate food, did you sneeze a lot as some food went up the hole? Also, were you allowed to go under water when swimming?? Yes, she is a very brave litttle girl who has taken everything in her stride. She amazes me everyday :-)

Hi Clair Thank you for thinking about us. Her op went brilliantly. We can not fault Al Wasl hospital in any way. They were great. We went in the day before for tests and general observation. DD was great and took it all in her stride. I actually think she was excited as it was something new and different surroundings and she was getting all this extra attention from the nurses!! She went to surgery on the Thurs morn at about 730am. It was heart wrenching leaving her but i was so strong and brave for her. i didnt want to let her see me upset. We got her back at 12. That was the longest 4 and a half hours of my life. I have never been away from her for that long before. We went up to surgery twice to check on her and the staff were great going to check and giving us updates. When we got her back, thats when i broke down. Seeing her like she was with the tube up her nose and hooked up to the monitors, it was heart breaking. She was also coming round from the anaesthetic so was a bit uncomfortable and usually where i can settle her, she wasnt interested the poor thing. The surgeon said that the tube could come out once she had 2 bottle feeds. As always, she was a little star and took 2 feeds before bed so they took it out. We were discahrged the day after. She had to have her arms bandaged straight so that she couldnt put her fingers or anything in her mouth. She didnt like this very much. We persevered with it for a couple of days and then let her take them off during the day and we didnt take our eyes off her. She was on painkillers and anti inflammatorys for 5 days. We went for our post op check last month and the surgeon was very happy with how it went. She has to have another op next year to close up the remainder of the hole as it was so big but im trying not to think abouyt that just yet. Thanks so much for thinking about us and to evryone who has wished us well :-)

Hi tobiland I know how you feel. My dd had surgery at 6 months old at Al Wasl Hospital. I was also wondering whether to go back home to get it done but im glad we decided to have it done here. She was in her normal surroundings before she went in, me and my dh were with her all the way and then when she was discharged she was back into her normal surroundings and into her normal routine without much disruption. We also did research on the surgeon but didnt find much about him. I think it goes on gut instinct and if you are happy with him and what he says then you are over your first hurdle. Which hospital will your ds have the operation in? We were more than happy iwth Al Wasl. The only issue i had was that dh couldnt stay over as it was a government hospital but he left at 10pm and came back at 7am so not too bad. I hope this has helped and hope your sons surgery goes well. My dd has to have another op in a year and im already dreading it.

I saw them at Spinneys motor City 3 days ago. I put my dd on the red top ones (follow on milk) at 6 months as this compliments the weaning diet. From what i understand, when you start them onn solids you can give them the next formula. Thats what i did anyway. Hope this helps. :-)

Hi I have pumped using a dual medela electric pump on emirates flights. There was no issues. I made sure it was fully charged before leaving and the charge lasts so dont worry about that. I put the blanket over me and no one seemed to know what i was doing. I got emirates crew to fill up sealable food bags full of ice and then once pumped i put the bottle in there and it stayed cool. Like Tanya said though, Dubai airport are fine with you taking ice blocks through but we got ours confiscated at Manchester airport.

hi vodkapops, i got an email and there was a link on it about it. I have since gone on it to see if i could find out if it was genuine or not and it is saying that its sold out. They are doing a street party with live wedding coverage. Take your own picnics, shade and cahirs and tables provided. It sounds really good and all proceeds going to charity.

BFC, that sounds soooo familiar. Thanks so much for posting. She had an operation a month ago now, i wonder if maybe she is remembering that? Also, she is very tired as she is not wanting to sleep during the day. Im in a vicious circle i think because i think she might be scared to go to sleep during the day. When she has one i pick her up and try and hold her close and talk to her reassuring her but she does try and brake away. In the end she wakes up and i show her the pictures of winnie the pooh she has on the wall and talk to her. My dh makes some milk, we give it to her and she goes to sleep but then her sleep seems disturbed for the rest of the night. Thanks again for your help, i will see if waking her beforehand helps.
