Totally in love with my new ring. It's not a diamond but a blue topaz and was given to me by DH on the 10 year anniversary of our first kiss. My plan is to collect as many sparkelies as possible and wear them all. But maybe not all at the same time ;) No point in keeping them in a safe. You won't be able to wear them once you're dead. Thats so romantic... :)

I didn't until recently, people kept saying it was such a waste not to be worn. I stopped wearing it when I had a little one, as it had caught her a few times, but now she is bigger and I don't have my hands in network cupboards anymore I decided to wear it again.

I would have to say that the schools I experienced in the UK are no comparison to what I have experienced here. However, we have only been here a year so this year may prove me wrong, but I am not going to hold my breath, but am keeping everything crossed.

Rera advised us that unless the actual words Non Renewable were in the contract then the contract is automatically renewable, regardless of whether it states it to be renewable or not. HTH's

I don't think using age to determine whether somebody is suitable for you is wise, so long as you are not breaking any laws. My DH is 4 years younger than me, a friends DH is 12 years older than her, and my MIL is 15 years older than her DH. If it's right then it's right regardless of age.

We were quoted 110k to have pool installed, landscaping additional and will vary as to what you have done, but as AS states 15k would probably be the minimum. I know of people here who pay 10k a month at the moment, they have pools no chiller, and irrigation. We are in a Cordoba and dont have grass or a pool, and only run ac in the rooms we are in. Our dewa during summer is 2k. Hth Hi Emlsnre, do u remember what the size was for the pool they quoted you? 7m x 4m basic rectangular no heater or chiller was 80k plus municipality bit which I think was about 10k, the same but with chiller etc was 115k.

We are in a Cordoba, paid 142k in Phase 1 last year. Our DEWA at the high point is 2300 down to 180 at its lowest. No grass, hardscaped, have pots with trees and plants, AC runs in 2 rooms downstairs during the day and 2 bedrooms at night. Landscaping in Phase 3 looks like it is making good progress...

As a tenant we are happy, we understood that we need to landscape the property so no surprise there for us, the finishing is OK, but not the standard we would expect of a similarpriced property in UK. There was a fair amount of snagging but expected that with a new property. However, if I had purchased a property here I would have been very disappointed, alot of what they believed they were getting wont ever materialise.

I wish we'd decided on the Villa when we first arrived, you can get so much more for your money, and the houses look lovely, but dorter fell in love with our house in the Meadows and as we were trying to placate her about living here, we chose the place she wanted. She still needs placating, so we're still here - I wouldn't have minded moving to the Villa but have been shouted down :) Things would be different if I actually earned my own money, I can tell you ;) You are always welcome to drop in for a cuppa whenever passing....:)

Our dd was reading in Reception, but had been doing very small books before starting school. I wouldn't stress about it you will be amazed how quickly they pick it up, and although sometimes it appears some kids are miles ahead, by the time they get to 8/9 they generally all plateau....

We thought about leaving ours vacant, but having considered the security aspect and also that some insurances wont cover if left vacant for certain periods of time we let it out. If we had a house on an estate where there were lots of others coming and going we may have gone the other way.

We've taken loads of chocolate dates in suitcases...just stick them in fridge beforehand until they're quite cold. Then, just before you head to airport, wrap them in aluminium foil. They should be ok when you arrive... Thanx, going to give it a go.....

Thanks Ladies, she has just e mailed quite a terse response saying that she is fully aware of the Rera regulations etc, and therefore if we would like to pay her fees of 1000 aed she will let us stay (as we have been such great tenants!) She then also threw in that we also must be aware that she intends to put the villa on the market for sale and we would have to move in three months anyway if and when it sold!!!! So if we dont renew, we still have 3 months to find another home etc and just pay the current rent monthly instead of our usual 1 cheque? Hubby is so stressed and frustrated with this. Thanks again x As others have mentioned, she can sell it... But if they want you out then she has to give you 12 months notice... Tell her to be angry with RERA they make the rules not you.

If LL wants to move in or sell: 1. They HAVE to send you this info thru notary public 2. They have to give u 12 months notice Emlsnere, would be great if you could share the email ID of rera that u used as it seems to have been very effective :) Hi, i cant find the email at the moment as it was sent by my dh. But it was a ladies address that was shown on the RERA rental increase calculator. When you typed in the data and hit OK the info wasnt available and it came up with a please contact address.. Hopefully it is still there, but will get dh to have a rumage and try and dig it out.

You are absolutely within your rights if you have a renewable contract. We have just been through a similar thing, where the LL just didn't get it. RERA are very good, and after six weeks back and forth I just emailed the LL and cc'd RERA in on it stating that as per UAE law we would be renewing on the same terms and that if this was incorrect RERA would notify us all accordingly. And voila, contract done and dusted.... We went through "i have to increase by 25%' to I need to move in etc". Stand your ground, the ladies on here have great advice and it gave us the confidence not to cave in. Good luck.

Hi there Big Blue. Yes, been here 10 days and we are very happy here. Check out Dubizzle for prices.....and try not to wince...I think the only apartments that come with maid's room are the 4BRs. Finishing is fantastic. The building itself is beautiful. Layout is great, and we find very flexible in a 3BR. Gym and pool are fully functional and DH loves having the gym just downstairs. Royal China and Noodle House are just round the corner at walking distance....but Spinneys is missing!! Stop rubbing it in......:)

We live at The Villa. Heading back to the UK next week, so maybe we could get them together when we get back. My experience has left me neither a lover or a hater, just a little disappointed, but hoping for a better year this time round. <em>edited by emlsnre on 15/08/2011</em>

Have stayed in the Triton (now called the Heritance) in Ahungalla, and the Taj Exotica in Bentota. Has an amazing time in both. Both are a good three hour drive from Colombo depending on traffic though.

Same problem with raspberries last week. Opened them to make salad and they were awful. Would not be so bad if they were not soooooo expensive. I think I will take them back the next time it happens. Maybe the source can change something with packaging, blueberries and strwaberries appear not to suffer as much.

I had to pick up a gift and was going through heaps of boxes of Dates in Geant. Most of them made in UAE or, more expensive ones, produced in KSA. I found one small cardboard box of dates which said 'made in Iran'. It was cheap, about 10dhs. I haven`t tried it, but it was the only time i saw iranian dates sold in the supermarket. Thanx for info, I was expecting them to be expensive so good to hear. Now just have to find some......

A paste of baking soda and lemon juice or vinegar should do it. If the stains are really stubborn dissolve denture tablets in it overnight Denture tabs work a treat, I use to rob my Grans to clean my jewels, makes the little ole diamonds sparkle! I can second the denture tablets.....

I got some in Festival City. While there I asked if it was OK now supply wise, he said they had requested 200 packs but only received 50..... So if you see it, stock up if its the only one that works for you....

Hi, would definitely get registered with a GP here if you are taking regular meds. Is it Metformin you are needing on a regular basis? As for the other, maybe one of us could stick our heads in a pharmacy and see if it is on the shelf. Then at least you will know. If i get a chance I will have a look for you today.

We've camped twice on the beach in Fujairah with our dog. Both times the police saw us and said nothing. Well, actually the first time they stopped to tell us we were crazy for being on the beach in such heat - and they were correct, we had to pack up and go home early as it was hotter than we expected!
