Thanx all you are great sharing your experiences with us. Talking to Rent Committee now, they seem very positive and so far are saying he does indeed need to give us a year from the expiration of this contract. Sending them contract to have a proper look at before proceeding further, so will keep you posted. Thanx again...

Thank you all for the responses. I spoke to RERA this morning, they told me I had to speak to Dubai Municipality, spoke to them and they gave be a number I think for Al An (SP?).... so I haven't got a clue but the number was 800 4888. Just an answer service. Where/who told you that the LL has to give a years notice, seems an awful long notice period.

do you let the dogs off lead here or do you keep them on the lead when walking on beach. Would love to walk ours but they don't like other dogs so not a good idea if dogs are running free...

I need to get from the British Embassy to the Palm today, busy time at 5:30. Not driven on SZR so thinking of getting back out onto Emirates Road but seems a very long way around... any other routes which aren't going to scare the life out of me...?

I would say the pools are about a 20/25min drive from the hotel. The roads to get quite bumpy so watch your speed..... be awful if something flicked up and put a hole in your rad....:\:

I understood that once the blood test had been done and so long as jabs were upto date you could leave straight away if necessary. So our boys had all the necessary tests and shots, we got their passports and they are here. If we wanted to leave in the next week I believed that we could do just that without any further tests needed. Not expecting to have to have another blood test done (I hope)....

If not too late... Calicut Paragon... lovely foods. Very accomodating and the waiters recommendation fabulous. 2 courses, breads etc, drinks 50 dirham for 2 people... love it...

Thanks ladies! Will have a look at those. How long does it take to get to Galle from the airport? as we're prob only going to be there for a few days dont want to spend too much time travelling. Hi Love Sri Lanka. Last time we went it took 3. hrs from airport to Beruwela/Bentota. I have friends in Ahungalla, from Bentota that takes about 30mins, and then from there to Galle another good 1hr to 1.5. The roads may be better now but suspect that you can be looking at a very realistic 4hrs plus to reach Galle.

Try Karachi Durbar - they have many restaurants across Dubai in various locations. They cost AED0.50 each and make the most amazing Bombay samosas (the big ones with potato and peas, scrummy). If you contact them now, or order on Thursday afternoon, they will be ready for you to collect on Friday morning. Well worth the drive, I promise. Mmmm, Im overseas and now dreaming about them ... and no doubt paying for eating them at bootcamp should you decide to indulge...... hope it's all going well...:)

Had my mum and MIL fly over with Emirates, informed them at the time of booking that they would need assistance. This happened at LHR and DBX, wheelchair from/to plane, I don't think Marahaba greet directly off of plane you have to walk a way and they wait at a certain point and then take you from there. Emirates are very good in my experience with people who require assistance, and a porter is included in the cost of Marahaba.

it is amazing what they can get away with.... I was told by KHDA 2 weeks ago that it was wrong for them to be demanding it, but that if I was in a position to pay it then it would probably be in my best interest to do so, as you never know what they may use against me if I didn't. Couldn't believe it, seriously it makes a mockery of KHDA, what is the point of them? *Be in your best interest to do so*....................:\: Funny, that they said it but also had another parent say it too..... me thinks some people been watching too much of The Godfather.....

Moved in last June, alot has changed since then. Phase 1 landscaping is almost completed. We rent, the maintenance by the developer is pretty hit and miss but they kind of get there in the end. Location wise I love it, we are central to everywhere. 25 mins to airport, Dubai Mall and MOE,Festival City 15/20mins to Mirdiff. . I normally shop at C4 in MCC, or Spinneys at Silicon Oasis or at Motor City. Not sure about Nurseries but am sure somebody else will comment, schools nearby are Repton, new Gems Silicon Oasis opening in September. Taxis are no problem at all, most come from there base at the ranches. Internet & Phone are with DU, and yes we are with DEWA. Depending on where you want to eat, but Motor City, Outlet Mall, Festival City, Mirdiff CC all within a 20 min drive. The Granada's don't have an internal courtyard, if you want the courtyard then stay with the Mallorca, Marbella or Valencia. HTH's

agree with the little things, but also ensure they remember their manners to others. Regardless of nationality or culture manners cost nothing but talk volumes about your child and you as a parent... The amount of times I see kids being given things or getting help and not a word passes their lips to say a simple thanks. I couldn't believe my eyes a few weeks ago when I watched a boy getting out of a taxi dropping him at school, he walked off and I could hear the taxi driver calling him, the boy turned around looked at him and walked off. I turned to see, the boy had got out the back of the taxi, and left the door wide open. So I tapped him on the shoulder and told him not to be so rude and go and close it.

I thought the KDHA had already ruled that they had to revert to LY re-registration/enrolment policy? They've been negotiating with each other for weeks, amazing how the body that is supposed to govern them tells them to revert but the school can wear them down into the result they want...... can't help but think of silver crossing palms...

I live in a Dubai Properties 4 bed villa. Love the layout of it, nice open feel. The Mazaya properties are nice too but the layout isn't as open.

OMG. I'm on my iPad in a car park right no but I could write for days on this... depending on what is important to you... Def check the curr as like the other poster said, I see slot schools in Qatar say British curriculum like the school I taught at but no Britsih school I'd ever been in in the UK ever taught that!!! I think that it is important to know as much info about the teachers. A good school should be proud to share teachers credentials and experiences. Ive said this before. One has to wonder what brings a great teacher to the M.E.? Just because a school has lots of after school activities doesn't mean the teachers enjoy the extra work at the end of their day. Ask about teacher breaks/lunch breaks/planning time/professional developments. Like the other poster said, happy teachers are a good thing. I cannot tell you the shock I had working at a "british" curriculum school here in Qatar after teaching in both the us and UK. It has put me off teaching here all together. I think it's important to ask how they assess your child and how the determine if your child will be promoted. You'd be surprised. I would also ask to be put in contact with or look on the website for the PTA. Those parents usually know the good, the bad, and the ugly but obviously want to make a difference so can be quite informative and give you an overall picture. When you're dealing with a FOR Profit organisation, don't expect to get the real story on the tour :( Interested to hear your experience in the ME regarding the process of assessment... care to elaborate a little?

Look at the classrooms, whats on the walls, ECA's if they are important to you, class sizes, ratio's, and I think you do get a feel for a place if you look beyond the hype... best of luck.. I wouldnt either, but I DO want to know how the school feels about it and what meassures they are taking to do better etc. If the school seems like they dont care at all then thats no good even if we all know the ratings arent spot on. Yes you are right, but lets face it all you will get from the school is lip service, but I guess if you go back through reports from previous years you can see if for example comments were made about parking facilities, you could then guage whether or not the school had actually made an effort to rectify the issue.

I was trying to get a cab in Cairo, I saw another couple that I recognised from the hotel I was staying in. So asked if they were heading back to the hotel and if I could share the cab. On the ride back got talking and he had asked where I came from, he said he had a friend who worked there. Turned out it was somebody who I worked with and who sat just across the corridor from me.

everyone has different experiences, the one I had with Active was awful, we didn't even finish the term with them. Very badly organised, far too many children in the pool. Absolute waste of money. Now swimming with a different company max of 3 in a class for the same money, they are superb and dd has come on amazingly...

Oh bless.... I know alot of people with similar symptoms at the moment. So I wouldn't worry too much but certainly keep an eye out just in case. Usually recovered with 4 to 5 days if it is the same thing. Hope he feels well soon.

Had some friends who enjoyed the Palm one but the Royal Mirage one on the terrace is beautiful.... I think they prefer you to book if possible rather than show up but no doubt will cater for either. I think it is one of my favourite places here....

I had an endoscopy in the UK via NHS... it was horrific and the consultant I saw privately said that they are barbaric. He wanted me to have another one but I was too scared after the first experience. But he assured me that I wouldn't feel or remember any of it, and if I did he would waive his fee. So I went for it and sure enough it was a totally different experience. I had some throat spray to numb it same as the first time and a really good dose of sedative. It was painless and wouldn't hesitate in doing it again now. Can't comment on the colonoscopy other than my mum has had a few and she said that she didn't remember any of it, same consultant as I had privately. So just make sure you get a good sedative and if they tell you the throat spray is adequate for you not to feel anything get up and leave!!!! Good luck and I am sure you will fine.

My folks loved the Creek too, we had a lovely walk around to Heritage Village where we had a nice lunch in one of the restaurants. Then we got the Abra over to the The Gold Souk...... Most of our visitors have preferred that day out to any of the others. Afternoon T at the Burj is 395 I think, not sure about the other. Have heard alot say that the T at One & Only is very good and I think it is only 95....
