Morning Lou I've been 5:2ing since October and have lost weight. It is an easy way of life with good health benefits. The guidance and logic behind it is explained well in the video link and is well worth a watch. There are a couple of websites which are useful too http://www.52fastdiet.co.uk - this one is a forum with good info http://thefastdiet.co.uk - this is the 'official' site with lots of input from Dr Michael Mosley https://www.facebook.com/groups/342434989173336/ and there are other groups on Facebook I'm adjusting how I do my fast days just now. Previously I had two small meals ( porridge and fruit about 2-3pm and 2 poached eggs and 2 slices of toast at 6-7pm) with 1200 calories on eat days. I'm trying one 500 cal meal at tea time with no calorie counting on eating days but sensible eating and I've started exercising again. We'll see how it goes. Good luck if you decide to embark on a change of lifestyle this way. Let us know how you get on.

I would say yes if you're in the vicinity! The gambling bit is quite fascinating and, I think, makes Dubai look quite tasteful. There are good shows in one of the hotel/casinos. A real spectacle. Outside the gambling centre, it is actually very picturesque with a mix of Chinese and Portuguese architecture and culture sitting cheek by jowl. Did a couple of day trips and also a long weekend and enjoyed both. There is also some Formula racing sometimes, it's not F1 but don't know what number and I've been told that is very good fun too.

Hello DesertRose I was working with a company and we needed a lot of staff of a flexible, good quality variety. We advertised on EW, dubizzle and used an agent. Loads of replies and the only ones who fitted the carefully written and explained profile were from EW. I had the pleasure of interviewing and could have easily filled 70 posts with exactly what we needed and all from EW. The other two sources were rubbish! Sadly, the contract fell through but I had such a lovely time meeting all the lovely applicants. It was a real pleasure. I don't know if we would have done so well filling a post in Oman though. Sadly, the post you have would suit me so well , but it's Oman. I would go but, the family work is based here. Good luck with getting someone for such a special job. edited by emur on 10/01/2013

Hello Alismum and October I'm also a 5:2er and plodding away at it merrily. It's great as a lifestyle and I managed to keep it up (sort of ) over Christmas! Finding it harder just now as I'm under the weather with a bug, but have managed to start introducing exercise too. Feeling a bit smug :)

I've had success with my own non traditional wedding dress and my mother of the bride dress, both being made in Satwa. Both, at different times took less than 14 days. My wedding dress was a copy of a dress I had and was made up in silk. The MotB dress was done in silk and lace overlay from a photograph. I had tried a dress the same on in a posh shop but didn't like the colour. The one I got made was vastly superior! Also had guests silk dresses made up and the grooms silk shirts.

We were in Bandos about four years ago. Like suze we were half board. It's expensive but as we are not drinkers, we didn't feel all inclusive was justified. If you can make the most of all inclusive then it would probably be worth it. Soft drinks are expensive too, though, as is mosquito/insect repellant. It's a lovely island and the diving is great. edited by emur on 08/01/2013

You might consider looking at anything by Sharmain McDonald. 'Red Sky', 'More Light' and 'After Juliet' are all strong pieces with good narrative and monologues for young women, especially 'More Light' where the main character is a 16 year old female. Hope this helps.

There is an electrical/sound/computer type shop in the shopping centre on Jumeirah Beach Road across from the big mosque. We got one there (fairly sure it was usb to midi) - sharaf, virgin, jackies and the rest looked at me as though I had horns when I asked for it! This shop didn't- I appreciated that :)

The Meat Co cater well for veggies. Went to Rivington for a special meal and all they could offer was soup and a salad and a take it or leave it attitude. We left, went to the Meat co and had a lovely meal catering for a carnivore and a veggie.

I use the shampoo bars and have done for years. They are great, last forever. The range changes so I can't recommend one specifically. I did use a lovely yellow one (honeysuckle ?) which is discontinued. Using a green rough one just now which is cool. My hair is short and rough and doesn't demand much so I just use one that smells nice! Lather up beautifully, rinse out easily. last a long time and are great for travelling. Have used Celestial and the foot cream in the past. Really like both. Loved the soaps too- Devil in the Dark, Miranda and others but find it very expensive here and am not sure how fresh the products are so stick to the shampoo bars.

Agree, Dangerous Blonde. That is most frustrating. I do try to have lots of change as I just expect them not to have any. It drives the supermarkets mad when I refuse to give them small notes so I have change for taxis. Since adopting this approach, it has reduced my stress levels considerably, and I realise that it's not totally practical for all.

hello Duddym I live in Motor city and we like it so much we have renewed. We were in the Greens previously and I much prefer Motor City. We are on the 'inside'- facing away from the road and overlooking a 'village green'. We have swimming pools, gyms and group rooms very close by. The 'inside' is well landscaped with trees, gardens, areas to sit out and the paths are easy for walking/toddling/pushing prams. The shops, medicentre , cafes and restaurants are all very close and walkable (not so much in the height of the summer though) We find it much quieter than the Greens- the soft landscaping and layout absorbs a lot of the noise, and not facing the road makes it much quieter. The race track can sometimes be heard, but we can honestly say that even when the 24 hour race was on we were not disturbed. I know that isn't the case for everyone, but depending on the location (and probably the wind!) we find it very quiet. If you have any other specific questions just shout- I'll try and help

Buses leave from Studio City to Mall of the Emirates every half hour. However, the walk to Studio City is over rough, sandy ground and in the summer heat would be a killer! It's all right when it's cooler. You need to have a ticket and top it up and I think the only place to do that is MOE station. Taxis are reasonably regular- if I need one very early I phone 15 mins before I need it and it is reliable. It is about 25AED to MOE/Lulu by taxi. Shops, gyms, cafes and restaurants aplenty and it's very pleasant for walking. And very handy for Emirates Rd/Al Khail Rd

Thanks for all the responses. I think that two days 600 cal fast eating two small meals in a 6 hour window and 5 days 1250 cal could be the way for me to go. Weight loss is very difficult for me , think my metabolism is shot to ****, so this could be the kick start that is needed. Fingers crossed I'll let you know... Update on this I have done 5:2 for 3 weeks (6 fasts) with 500cal on fast days. One week at the begining was a regular 1250 cal 'diet'. Weigh in this morning and have lost 2.6kg and am pleased. Even more pleasing, I have lost 19.5cm. Feeling good :) Thanks for the advice given everyone

Ocean Park? Chi Lin Nunnery? Horse racing at Happy Valley? Yau ma Tei markets (jade, flower and ladies)? Cheung Chau - get a ferry to there Kowloon Park (which would fit in with Yau ma tei) oh, so much and so easy with the public transport and none of it on the PEAK! If they are fit for walking, there are 'trails' in Central taking in temples, museums etc. The museums in Jordan/Tsim Sha Tsui are very good too

Yes, it's definitely strange. On the opposite end of the spectrum, I bought bean sprouts, used half of them and forgot about the other half packet. Found it a fortnight later in the fridge and they looked like new. What on earth is being done to the food here? edited by emur on 01/10/2012

I'm ambidextrous- write with both hands, table tennis with left but big racquet with right. If you let your child lift the knitting and crochet components from the table/bag, they will take it in which is the dominant way - if that makes sense. If they are going to go left dominant if you show them in a mirror they can copy. Also if you knit in the 'european' manner, where the yarn is (for right handers ) at the back of the work and tensioned to the left it is easier.

Ginee, someone offering to help is not going to judge your apartment. It's a difficult choice when you're feeling bad, but letting someone in to mind the wee ones and let you get to the doctors may be the lesser of two evils
