Thanks tulip777. I know when we went back 4 years ago, customs were doing checks and our container was chosen to be x-rayed. This time delay took us over our 'free parking' time , so we had to pay for the privilege of being x-rayed plus more 'parking' (can't remember what the proper name is!). That does seem a lot for shipping! We have a complete household so we don't have to restart and most of it is quite good and we like it/couldn't get it in the UK. We thought about shipping just a few pieces, but when we looked at the volume, we can fill the container and don't think it'll be much more than just shipping a bit. Dilemma really, but we'll see what the costs end up being and balance that against the hassle value of selling here and rebuying again. *sigh* edited by emur on 15/03/2015

I have been on the RTA and police website and it says to go to the al qasais department. Can anyone tell me if the RTA branch in the Union Co-op at Safa still does the transfer. I held a temporary one previously and got it done there. Now I need a UAE one as I have residency. Anyone know?

Have a look at shelterbox. I , think it's shelterbox. com, but a google will bring it up. You can choose if your donation goes to the Philippines or Syria and it tells you why they send the boxes they do ( what's needed etc) and how much goes on admin. I feel it addresses all the points made in this discussion.

Thankyou all. Sent the relevant legislation by email and links, got phoned and then slightly hassled by phone. After stating our case and being clear we would rather communicate by email, the landlady sent a rather ungracious e mail saying we can stay for the year and that the apartment will be sold. Girding our loins for viewing hassle and have written off the deposit! Thanks for the advice. My advice is don't be bullied!

Thank you all so much! I had a slight panic there when I saw the clause about wanting to move in personally or move in a first degree relative. This is what the LL is claiming. However, I see that this still requires the 12 months written notice delivered by registered post. Starting to breathe again.

Thanks for the advice. I've had a look on the RERA website and am having problems trying to find anything relevant. Does anyone have a link to something useful on the site or is it a case of trawling down to their offices. Ideally , I would like to e mail information backed up with a relevant piece of legislation. Can anyone help please?

I agree with DesertRose1958 - it is very damaging to 'label' people. As in any managerial situation, consistency and fairness is the way to handle anyone. Maintain a steady, centred demeanour and have good, clear communication. Set clear boundaries for everyone and enforce them fairly. The person you are dealing with is a person like everyone else with skills and talents. It's just sometimes they aren't well- if they are actually bipolar and have been seen by specialists.

mojitoqueen, it would be a good idea to check the capacity of your washing machine if you decide to do it yourself. I'm an avid dyer and did the covers of the sofa, only to have a fetching blotchy effect! The main cover was too big and didn't dye evenly. Then I put too many covers in for one load. Another blotchy finish. I don;t mind it though- it's a bit funky, but if you want an even colour have a check first!

Thank you for sharing your experiences RuthM. So many truly bipolar people are wonderfully talented and kind but all we see in the media is the sensationalism of mental illness. I worked with many manic depressive people and their families and it is heartbreaking what the illness is capable of. Fortunately it can be reasonably well controlled for many. I hope you enjoy the happy memories of your dad.

The weight loss you are mentioning is nothing that couldn't be achieved by portion control and regular exercise. Great that it's working for you, but it's not exactly a miracle. If this is the case, why are obesity levels rising and why are people finding success with 5:2 where conventional advise has failed? It's not a miracle as you rightly point out, but is is effective and part of that seems to be because it is sustainable.

Muji in Dubai mall have lovely squishy ones that are sausage shaped. They have a clip to make them into a circle and allow you to attach it to luggage handles. I prefer it to my inflatable one which I found to be uncomfortable at the seams.

Thanks Easygo. That was quite quick! It's a 0745 arrival so hopefully they will be slightly more geared up to receiving - I'm ever hopeful. It's my daughter so I'll collect her, but we'll taxi as the parking costs will be extreme! Excited.

Hello lincolnimp, I've been 5:2ing since October, with a break for holidays and Christmas and back seriously since New Year. I measure rather than weigh and even then only do that once a month. Your questions can be answered on the 5:2 forum http://wwwdot52fastdietdotcodotuk There is loads of support, plenty of good information and a great progress tracker. Hope this helps

I love moutabel, and , while you can buy amazing stuff here, I would like to make it for when I am in a place where I can't buy it. Please would you share your recipes? The ones on line all seem much of a muchness, so personal recipes would be very much appreciated. It's the aubergine/eggplant paste one- no tomatoes or any other funny stuff, please thanks much

Hello Cariad, I'm in Motor city not young children though. The grassy area at Foxhill regularly has children playing on it about half four onwards. There is also a motor city Facebook page and a web site where people regularly organise get togethers etc which may be useful if you don' know about them. Hope this helps. Where are you in MC?

I would second amelia about getting one made in Satwa if you have the time. It takes about a fortnight max including any fittings. I have had dresses for weddings and one for MotB and they were perfect.

The Science Museum in Kowloon is very good and has lots of interactive stuff for all age groups ( I loved it) There is also a museum/art gallery out in Sha Tin that gets really good exhibitions - worthwhile checking to see if there is anything good on. If I think of anything else I'll post! PS can I sneak in your suitcase please?

Just checked the UK site and, lo and behold, they have a sale and they are less than half the price of here before the sale. I'm really going to have to get into Shop and Ship! Boots and Lush products are also twice the price here so it must be worth it!

November in Hong Kong is quite cool and can be wet- some of the downpours are almost biblical! It's not a bad time to go. It's a fabulous city with so much to do. The botanic gardens have animals/a kind of zoo which is really cool, Ocean Park is great, Kowloon park is good and just the general atmosphere is vibrant. It is very busy and may be a bit overwhelming, but the parks and green spaces are all around and offer tranquility.

We had a dreadful experience with Air Arabia trying to fly to Jordan. The flight just didn't go and we were rebooked and rebooked and those flights didn't go either. The customer service and communication was appalling. Perhaps they have improved or are better going to different routes. Sorry, don't have any experience of India. Hope you get the info you need and have a good time wherever you go

Sorry to side track Daza, please can you tell me about the Bokassa compost bin? A quick google has given me the basics, but it would be goqod to know if you got it here, how much it is and if the bran is readily available. Also, how much does it actually make. This is exciting. I miss by big garden and practically cry every time I throw out good composting material! edited by emur on 27/01/2013

Hello Mai Tai prior to November I was having 1200cal a day. Since I restarted before Christmas I haven't counted calories but have been 'mindful'- (a teaspoon of nutella rather than a dessertspoon etc) I think I am eating less portion wise and I definitely get fuller quicker. Haven't done any weighing or measuring but am still seeing a steady difference. Weigh day at end of Jan, so we'll see then!

I did this faithfully for 8 weeks up until mid november. Lost about 8 lbs and 38cm (that's 15 inches) all over. It was reasonably easy. I fasted intermittently over the festive period and got back on the straight and narrow last week. 4 fasts down and I am seeing a difference. My clothes are looser and there is some muscle begining to show and a wee bit of shape as well. I am exercising this time which I didn't manage last time and it isn't any more difficult than it has been previously when I have restarted after losing fitness. Like Buttercup said, "what is there to lose?"

Hello Coco pops as the whole 5:2 eating plan is in it's early days, there are no definitive rules. However, it seems that most people do the fast days non consecutively, so Monday and Wednesday would be fine, and it can be changed around to suit your lifestyle. With regard to exercise, different people are reporting different things about exercising on fast days. Men seem to manage better for some reason, but I haven't seen anyone mention on any of the sites about compensating for exercise calorie burning by reloading with extra calories. Many people report being energised on fast days and wanting to exercise. I suppose it is down to what works for the individual. You might want to post the exercise/top up calories query on one of the forums and see what others think. Hope this helps

In Hong Kong the expectation of bags full of smarties also prevails. Also, all absence from work has to be covered by a sick note from the doctor. 'Phantom' stomach upset (needed the day off- nowt wrong) resulted in 7 different sets of tablets, and the sick note. Too much medicine! Sorry, off topic!
