Car seats should not be used as a place for infants to sleep, a study published today has found. University of Auckland researchers studied the breathing patterns of 78 infants during sleep while restrained in an infant car safety seat, with and without a foam plastic insert. The researchers found breathing problems are significantly reduced when the insert is used. However, Dr Christine McIntosh said the new study highlighted the importance of not using cars seats as a place for infants to sleep. "Given both the significant rate of events and the fall in mean oxygenation over time, the current study strongly reinforces recommendations that even with such an insert, young infants should never be left unattended in car seat carriers, or indeed any seat device, and that car seat use should be restricted to the minimum time required for essential travel," the researches said in the report published in the United States journal Pediatrics today. Dr McIntosh, from the Department of Physiology at The University of Auckland, said in the first few months of life, even full term infants restrained in their car safety seats often have brief periods of low oxygen saturation. "Sudden unexpected deaths in infants (SUDI) can occasionally occur in car seats or capsules," Dr McIntosh said. Dr McIntosh said that during the randomised controlled study researchers did discover that the use of the insert reduced the number of "stop breathing episodes" due to airway blockages and also reduced the fall in oxygen levels during these episodes. "Babies' heads usually slump forward when they fall asleep in their seats. We wanted to find out whether an insert that allows the infant's head to rest upright in sleep could improve safety by reducing periods of low oxygen. http://tvnz.co.nz/national-news/parents-warned-not-let-babies-sleep-in-car-seats-5510875 edited by evelyn2000 on 08/02/2014

Despite what you see in the malls/parks ( when most of a babies are in the car seats instead of carry cot) it may seems that there is nothing wrong with that. Unless you have a car seat which is reeling flat :). If not for a longer periods it is better to use carry cot. Car seats are made for traveling in the car & safety.Small baby shouldn't spend more time that it has to be in it. I think it is something around 2 hours. The reason is a position in a car seat which making more pressure on the spine, and when the baby is older they start touching their feet much earlier that they will do without, what is affecting the general muscle tension. Also sometimes the head of baby is too close to chest which may cause berating problems and also is linked to re flux. Sorry for my English, hopping you will get a point.

OP i hope your baby will get better soon. For us the tummy time was good for running nose, and i put some saline as well. Regarding washing a baby be careful on baby skin products, as most of them are nor really good for baby skin.Like for an example seba med buble bath, i just google out ingrediens list: Water, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, Disodium Cocamphodiacetate, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Sodium Lactate, Coco Glucoside, Glyceryl Oleate, [b'>Sodium Laureth Sulfate[/b'>, PEG 3 Distearate, PEG-150 Distearate, Laureth-2,[b'> Alcohol, Fragrance (Parfum), Benzyl Alcohol,[/b'> Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Benzoate. It is not very bad and still better than other baby brands, but why to put on a baby skin a unnecessary chemical cocktail. Also bathing a baby too often removes friendly flora from a skin, which may affect immunity. And Regarding oil, why don't you try adding few drops of oil ( alamond oil, olive oil, jojoba) to the water, then when you take baby out the skin will be already oiled :).Also watch out 'baby' oils as thy contain Parrafinum ( mineral oil) which in fact making a skin dry. It the begging i was bathing my baby once or twice a week, but i didn't know the thing about not bathing a baby, i was just so tired to prepare bath for everyday. ;) Hoping to hear good news from you soon. if you have a facebook have a look on La leche leaugue https://www.facebook.com/groups/lll.uae/. They will answer all your questions about feeding your baby. You are doing really great thing for your baby, I would say leave a bottle and keep breastfeeding, and you will see that you will have a plenty of milk. And one more thing the baby is sleeping longer after formula, as is much harder to digest than breast milk, so small body using much energy for that. The colic's are normal at this age and they are nor always associated with the food. Although you might look at your diet, especially diary products.Another thing you can do is to drink camomile tea, fenugreek ( increase milk supply so be carefull), that will also help your baby digestive system.

It is normal for small baby, I would i advice you to breastfeed on demand, and be carefull with pacifer, as it may affect your milk supply. After few weeks, your baby will stay awake longer and longer. :) I would suggest get some books, as later you will not have time to read ;) My LO also stay on my beast formost of the time unlull he was 4 months.

I have use pure lanolin and any cracks healed very fast.Check on Facebook La leche Leauge in Emirates.I think the only thing you can do is prepare yourself as you read a lot about breastfeeding. It is good to know that new baby is nursing almost all the time, you might not to have time even to take a shower ;). -All this things about latching, if good to check Lactation consultant when you will feel like that there is something wrong. Don't let anyone say to you that you don't have enough milk ( this is happens in rarely). I don't know if you heard that there is some women who breastfeed adopted baby :). And it will get easier and easier, finally you will find yourself feeding your 6 months old who will latch by himself in the dark room :D.And you will feel so happy that you are giving your baby best what you can . Good Luck ! all best.

If the money is a matter you could go to Iranian Hospital. But you need to be prepared as they never refuse to see a patient, and you can always go without appointment so the place is crowded. I deliver my baby there and all was really good.

So did the nurse show you how to carry the baby or explain what was in her opinion wrong? or just stress you and left? [url=http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php'>[img'>http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-rolleyes007.gif[/img'>[/url'> First of all you will not cause damage in baby spine in just few weeks. But it is worth to remember that bad habits while carrying baby, bathing, feeding, sleeping, using wrong carrier etc. repeated everyday for first year , when young spine is developing will have an effect. While it is not easy sometimes not to sit up a baby, while they are very curious and want to see the world. Just try to support his back by hand, try [b'>not to sit[/b'> the baby by putting the pillows behind , while there is too much pressure on lower part. Also the muscles are still not ready to hold up the whole body. You can always carry your baby on the shoulder, like you are going to burp him. And by the end lot of tummy time. :) [url=http://www.janetlansbury.com/2012/04/sitting-babies-up-the-downside/'>check this link[/url'> edited by evelyn2000 on 06/07/2013

I'd like to get your opinions and experience when it comes to getting baby to sleep. My boy is just coming up to six weeks and HATES being put to bed. He also has colic which is aggrevating the situation, but typically we'll start the bedtime routine around 6-7pm and he is not asleep before 9-10pm. He just screams his head off when I put him down, and putting hands on without picking him up seems to make him even angrier. So I pick him up, give him a cuddle, put him down and it all starts over again. Now my husband has been away for a few days and I have let baby sleep on me / with me in the bed and he sleeps so much easier and longer. [b'>Is this a terrible habit that is going to create an even worse problem? What would you do[/b'>? No don't worry its not terrible habit. This is so natural for small baby to sleep beside mum. It makes baby feel secure and as you notice he is sleeping better with you.My LO is 8 months and we are sleeping together from the day we back from hospital. I have never tried any sleep training, he is falling asleep on breast but happens few times he slept by himself. Just make sure your bed is safe ( not too much pillows and heavy blankets), make sure you LO will not fall down. And you can always get another bed for your husband and just put it beside yours. You will not spoil your baby, they are small for such short time. Enjoy it :), that is a beautiful part of motherhood feeling your baby sleeping on you.

You can also get cloth wipes, i saw them in most of baby stores, cotton make up(large ;) ) pads are nice too. Personally i don't like moist wipes as i feel skin is still sticky after them, I get them once, but I wash them in the machine :D the get nice and fluffy, you just need to put them in the water before use.

I wouldn't bother about buying stroller for travel only. Baby carrier its a very good idea, although it is not really recommended to out baby into the carrier until is sitting up, but for such a short time it will not do any harm. Remember o choose soft ergonomic carrier, such Ergo/Boba or Manduca, the Baby Bjorn is not so good, especially for so small baby as dosen't give sufficient support for back and legs are dandling down .Or you can try a baby wrap. I want to add about putting so young baby for umbrella stroller i.The baby back is on stage of development, sitting up little bit or putting baby for longer periods in his type of stroller will create unnecessary pressure on the spine which may led for spine back problems ( sometimes it might show even in adult life).I am not talking about one time travel off course ;).Consider also that baby might not like stay in stroller, and you will end up carrying LO :) When i travel emirates i had stroller but i had carry baby in the wrap most of the time. edited by evelyn2000 on 07/05/2013

I don't want to give my one year old cows milk and would prefer goats milk but i cannot find any fresh, apparently spinneys sell it but they had sold out when i went. I can find UHT goats milk but is that any good? Im a bit reluctant to give UHT as not sure if it is the same quality. Does anyone do this? What about camel milk? i think is more accessible than goat.

You don't need to give cows milk at all, milk it is not best source of calcium. There is almond milk in the market which taste great and is much healthier than cows. Also the camel&goat milk are great alternative. Regarding the flavoring there is natural vanilla essence in the market, but i can not help, i saw in UK in Waitrose, in Dubai I never checked. I have no idea why the doctor advice you to add flavoring :?Maybe just to make milk more attractive ;).

I had Bugaboo Frog and i would say? Good things: +lightweight +very easy to push especially in supermarkets +the baby bassinet which you are going to use first is very comfortable +reversible, you can face the baby Disadvantage : - tricky to fold, -the storage is far too small, and very difficult to reach, -again folding in 2 pieces ( you need 2 hands to fold it) so when going alone by the taxi its is night mare -not worth the money, you might buy better stroller by this amout. If i had a choice i will not buy it again, I would go for sth like Bebecar rather, than Bugaboo. edited by evelyn2000 on 05/05/2013

I deliver my baby in the Iranian hospital.Actually you don't need to bring anything with you. Only the clothes for yourself and baby while going out. I had my cosmetic bag/ hair brush/small face towel, phone charger.I found it much easier to use hospital nighties also they provide disposable underwear and i did't have to worry if i lost sth there. For baby hospital provide clothes, cap, blankets.

I would advice you to change the doctor .What is the benefit of giving normal food for such a small baby? Introducing solids will not help, it may make it worst. The best for reflux babies is breastfeeding only. You will not do any harm for baby by giving solids later, but if you start too early it might be wrong decision. edited by evelyn2000 on 15/04/2013

MrsCB you are right, better keep baby in the room for at least 6 months also for the safety reasons. When you are sleeping beside you can hear the breath, also when baby wake up you are just beside.Sleeping in the other room you might not hear little movements, you will hear crying, but why to wait for crying while you can hold your LO before. The first year of life is very important and we should be close and respond for baby needs, to make him/her to feel secure.

Have you ever been in Dubai, do you know how the summer looks like? Do you have maternity insurance which will work in Dubai, hospitals here are very expensive. If i were on your place i wouldn't bother. [b'>will I have a problem registering the baby when it's born as the father may not be around[/b'> I am not too sure as my husband did all the paperwork for baby, and everywhere they ask for his signature. But did you really think how the day your child will born will looks like when your husband would be away? Are you planing to bring the family to help you You don't know also how your pregnancy will looks like, some women get it very easy, some not ( nausea, swollen legs etc)., you don;t know the delivery. I don't know how this job is important for you? You will not have any rights here, unless it is written in your job contact, but only the arabic version of the is legal here, all what is in English, or if it is job offer, when comes for legal point are useless. Why don't you try babywearing? Get yourself baby sling or ergonomic carrier, and try to carry her on your back, probably she will not stand in the front as she is not young baby. Then you could wash the dished , clean the house and do whatever you need and your LO with you. There is facebook group, where you can get some help. And try diffrent types of carrier to see if it works for you. [b'>we shouldnt sit up baby who can not sit by her/himself, we should not stand up baby who can not stand byher/him self..[/b'> Babies natural development is to lie on their backs, roll to their sides, roll to their tummies, (they do this when they are ready to do it because their muscles are developed from just lying on their back!!) then moving around on the floor to discover the big bad world,,,, reaching out for toys, picking up that bit of fluff or speck that you missed. they then begin to discover their legs and try them out by getting up onto their knees, and slowly but surely over the month learning to crawl and then finally sitting sometimes as old at 9 months before acheiving it... all on their own... without mum or dad pushing them into steps that their body is not ready for. You will always have people saying sit your baby, do this , jolly jumper(the worst thing you could put your baby in) And one more thing if the manufacture of bumbo seat or other saying it is recommend from this and that months plz do not blindly follow this reccomendation cos they are made to sell the product. edited by evelyn2000 on 15/03/2013

15 weeks, isn't she too small to put her in that toy, with dandling legs? In my opinion it is not so good idea for baby hips, also such small baby supposed to still get her neck and spine to get stronger. I think the toy doesn't t give support for her back as well. Dear Mmmm think well and make more research before putting her in this one because it could lead for some problems with her muscles, spine, coordination etc. I am talking about long term one which can show in her adult life. Wish all good luck I know it is so hard to keep them to entertain when the are so small you we have limited options.

do not use walker, you might make his development to slow down, I mean he the coordination of his body.Let your LO to explore and play on the floor, he will catch up with his brother soon.If you are still concerned you might want to see physiotherapist or even pediatrician. The walker its not good option because you might force your baby for sth what he is not ready yet, despite that they are very happy using the walker. * sorry for messy English

Question applies for London heathrow and Dubai airports. I will be traveling with baby at 3/4 weeks and really think I will need the stroller in the terminal? I have. [b'>Baby bjorn miracle mesh carrier,[/b'> but won't the stroller be better? I think best if you give a call airlines, they will tell you if you can check in stroller on the gate. But as Stokke is expensive i would have travel bag for it or wrap it really well. Regarding Baby Bjorn this is NOT AN OPTION for such small baby [url=http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic199665-baby-needs-to-be-carried-all-the-time--please-help.aspx'>have a look at my reply on this thread[/url'> that will explain why. I will just tell that this carrier will not support your baby back and head as it should be also the legs will be dandling. [url=http://www.hipdysplasia.org/developmental-dysplasia-of-the-hip/prevention/baby-carriers-seats-and-other-equipment/'>look at this link[/url'>. If you are going spend the money on carrier get ergo with newborn insert, and you will be able to use untill your baby will be 3 years old. I'm sure I read somewhere that too many showers and baths are bad for your skin, particularly children's skins. Depletes the skin of its natural protective oils, or something. that what I wanted say, it happens when you are using shower get and shampoo with sulphates. "The empirical research on such devices has repeatedly shown that children who are put in them tend to meet developmental milestones at a significantly slower rate than children who are not put in them. Basically, such devices are crutches that delay development, because children are not using the appropriate muscles for support. Gross motor development works from head to toe, meaning that the muscles up top have to be strong before the lower ones will develop well. When the child is placed in a jumperoo type device, s/he isn't forced to use the appropriate muscles, so it takes longer for the child to develop. If a child isn't sitting up on his/her own or able to get into the crawl position, s/he would probably benefit from more tummy time and trunk/arm strengthening exercises than an upright position." What about other activity toys which are more safe for baby? Also i don't know how old is your LO, but make sure they toy is safe for her development. you could try boil one tbsp corn strach in the one glass of water and wash your baby by it. If you can not give her nappy off time try to wear muslin for her instead.
