She could also find work taking care of pets while their owners are out of town.

It makes sense, but that's not what happens. :( If I click onto the Qatar one and then click Forum and then click Qatar (which is two clicks more than necessary from a web development perspective) then we do land on the Qatar forum. What happens after a few more clicks on the Qatar forum, though, is that the side bar goes back to the Dubai version. The top bar does seem to be staying on the Qatar, so you've got one of two right :D

I'm still being defaulted to the Dubai "frame" after the first few clicks on the Qatar forum - so I'm seeing the Qatar forum but the long Dubai sidebar, which is also very annoying.

I've spent a lot of time in Doha's most popular nurseries - not as much as a parent with kids there, but way more than the average Joe :) Little Angels has very high standards for both their equipment and their cleanliness. They import the majority of their toys, equipment and furniture from the U.S. en masse - last year they brought in a 20' container of nursery-related items. They're also fanatical about cleaning and safety. Most of their policies exceed the local requirements for safety - e.g. their industrial grade fire escape, fingerprint impression gate entry, etc. Whenever I've been at Little Angels I've seen plenty of the children's work hanging in the classrooms etc. too. I found Tots Corner to be lovely and welcoming as well. Their classrooms are bright and welcoming and the staff is very friendly. Their outdoor play area is very nice as well. I agree with DebK's last paragraph - what attracts you to a nursery may have no value to someone else, so it's best to visit them for yourself. You can also check out the Doha Mums Nursery Guide for more info - just google it and it should come up. Roxanne

I discovered the "medical strength" (????) deodorants this summer - they seem to have just come out in the past year. It's not called "medical strength" exactly but it has some sort of similar name (sorry!). Anyway, I found the Dove brand at MegaMart. It's a bit steep at ~QR30 but it works. There are other brands in the U.S. (and maybe here?) but I just saw the Dove brand and grabbed it. The Mitchum, though it works, ultimately makes my armpits swell up due to whatever is in it - so I don't know if it's available here or not.

Hi natalie8 - It sounds like you have some good opportunities for health care. My guess is the hospital that you have heard of is Hamad. I have heard good things about it, but have not been myself. A couple of members of Doha Mums have formed a Cancer Support group and might be able to provide you with some first-hand advice. You can reach them at cancersupport -at- dohamums -dot- com The group is for everyone (men, women, patients, spouses, etc.), regardless of whether or not you have kids or are a Doha Mums member. We'll be adding a page to our website about the Cancer Support Group very soon as well. Good luck with your decision and let us know if there is anything else we can help you with. Roxanne

There are some drivers that you can trust to strap your child into a car seat, but it's tough to find them. Also, Starfish doesn't have a bus system. I think Rising Stars and Sunbeam (maybe) are the only ones with buses. Another solution would be to hire one of the Starfish employees to bring your child home in a hired car and stay with him until you return home. You'd pay a minimum of QR25 per hour plus her transport back to her home (plus the transport from nursery to you home). For insurance reasons you won't be able to leave the child at nursery until you're done with work. I've heard of some FT working mums who leave for the school run, leave the kids with the housemaid and then return to work. Good luck! Roxanne

Hi Amy - Welcome, in advance, to Doha! QAWS seems to always need help with walking the dogs. From time to time they put out a call for help with building, painting, etc. as well. They host a number of events to help raise money, so your PR skills might be useful there as well. Give them at shout at [email protected] and see what they say. Roxanne

I like to give our "corporate gifts" to the housemaids, workers, guards, etc. as well. We receive all sorts of company-branded blankets, jackets, wallets, etc. that they are likely appreciate much more than us. Roxanne
