Really? a nationality bashing thread?! NO, it;'s an individual thing - no need to mention nationality. I wasn't bashing the brits at all. I have plenty of British friends whom I love dearly. I was teasing and genuinely asking if it was a cultural thing, but I will delete that part since people here take it to that level. You wrote a post mentioning British people yet say you were teasing but generally asking if it was a British thing. I am confused? And then get the hump when someone calls out 'loud Yanks'? Pot, kettle, black.

I had my wedding reception in the H Hotel and it was fantastic! Everything was truly far and above our expectations. I take it your friend knows she can't actually 'legally' get married at any of these venues and the legal part has to be done in one of the churches. You can only have a 'blessing' ceremony - which many people pass off as their actual wedding. (unless this has changed AGAIN - but certainly when we got married that's what we were told). Just be advised that the minute you mention 'Wedding' the prices for everything go up. I sourced my own flowers etc and got them at far better prices. edited by FairyDust on 25/10/2014

If phen375, is like phentermine or the old school phen fen, I would be careful. That's highly addicting, dangerous and definitely not available here. Also terrible for anyone with any kind of heart issue, high blood pressure etc. These things should ONLY be used under doctors supervision and only by people who are grossly overweight, where they struggle with diet and exercise. If there truly ever was a 'magic' pill for weight loss - don't you think everyone would know about by now? Most of these things are just awful gimmicks.

People always make this mistake - it's NOT actually your license that has expird - that is valid for 75 years, as stated on the paper part, which yu can get copies of from the DVLA. It's the photocard that has expired. This you cannot renew if you're not a UK resident.

Speaking of rude, who gave me a thumbs down? I stated facts, actual happenings. What don't you like? I don't understand the thumbs up, thumbs down. We're all grown, if you do not like the post you can simply click add reply and state your reasons. Thanks in advance for the thumbs down this post will probably receive :) I really don't understand people pressing the thumbs down button either when it makes no sense to... I have put up a separate post about my landlady and asked for help/opinions of people in if I should write a letter to her etc... and someone has pressed the thumbs down??! Very odd! If we all express our opinions to things and those that don't agree - yes go thumbs down happy thats acceptable - but when its stating facts its really a weird thing to do! The only person I could think of that would have "down thumbed" me in my other post would be my landlady reading it haha - and I doubt very much it is her as her English is poor and she only knows the words "Leave my property get out now go go go!" :) That's quite funny!! Some posters do it, purely because they don't like other posters - they act like children. It's a bit pathetic. Just ignore it. Doesn't mean anything anyway.

I would reply to her saying that you accept her eviction notice, BUT, if you discover she has re-rented the property, you WILL be filing a case against her with the rent committee. In which case she could end up having to turf the new tenants out and re-renting to you at the old price. Also she could end up paying you a years rent as compensation and banned from renting for two years. Make this all absolutely clear.

I'll second what Nomad said. Sadly all the pups in pet shops here likely come from puppy mills in Eastern Europe. Many are brought in far too young and with fudged paperwork. Can't ell you how many people have bought dogs and they've been so sick and ended up costing a fortune in vets bills or dying - not worth it. Please don't BUY a dog, as you just contribute to this horrible industry. If you're absolutely set on s certain breed, then research and ethical breeders and bring it in yourself.

Check out the rescue organisations: K9 Animal Action Abu Dhabi Scads SNiff Dubai Animal welfare There was an influx of small dogs needing homes not so long a go. I would also say, although it's nice to have a certain breed in mind, be open minded about looking for a dog. There so many animals in desperate need of a home and very often the dog chooses you and you could end up with something totally different.

Any chance of changing the way threads work, so that the first post appears on top, then subsequent posts under it? Seems really silly to have to scroll all the way down to find the original post. It's all backwards. I think the 'dangers' over PM's are grossly exaggerated. I've met most of my very close friends here organised through meet ups in forums. Plus, the spamming, etc only happens if it's not policed properly. Hundreds of other forums manage alright.

Yes you can. You 'export' the car from AD to DXB. Plenty of agencies able to do this if you don't want to do it yourself. Can't comment on the servicing though. You'd have to contact the dealer and ask.

I knew 'some' people wouldn't like the tone of my post, but as someone who worked extensively with disabled children in the past - they're usually mortified by people highlighting their disabilities. They're normal kids, with normal interests. It's like the old book 'Does he take sugar'. Would you like it if someone only focused on what was wrong with you?

Frazzle, posting this question in the AD section as well as the Dubai one might be helpful too. Also, how to put this delicately - he's in a wheelchair SO WHAT? He's a teenage boy, who probably has the same interests as others his age. How about posting what things he likes to do, as that would help. Look past someone's disability, don't highlight it.

It's not an unreasonable request to ask to meet the people throwing the party. Also, as someone else said, if she talks about this boy all the time, he's probably much more than just a friend. If the boy is any kind of decent lad with manners, he won't mind meeting you either. I was going out with friends etc at that age. The ground rules were, my parents knew where I was, had contact numbers and picked me up at a certain time. edited by FairyDust on 21/10/2014

I didn't know that she now has another home to go to - is this the same person who is holding an adoption day on Saturday at Posh Paws ? I thought it was a charity having trouble with funding, didn't realise it's an individual being moved from a residential villa because of complaints... They are a charity, but the shelter they have is in a residential villa. It's basically run by 3 women. ok thanks... how did they get a licence to run a charity in a residential villa ? Well, none of these charities are licensed are they. Just people with good hearts, trying to do good things with the donations and help of others. Actually they are all meant to be licensed to receive donations. people know that - but the sheer amount of red tape and hoops to jump through here make it virtually impossible without local backing. As I said, good people with good hearts doing something for creatures in need. I don't think ANYONE with a kind heart would object to that.

Ilovecandy - it's only a recommendation - again everyone is different. pollydxb1 - head to a gym or a doctor with a set of biometric scales - the ones that you stand on mtal plates and hold metal arms - it runs a low electric current through the body, takes heart rate, works out fat/muscles masses etc. To give you an example, my BMR is 1300 - my recommended calories intake for what I want to achieve is 1866, broken down into basically so many grams of carbs, protein and fat each day. Most starbucks/costa coffees you'll find are 100 plus calories. That's why you have to factor in drinks as well. Alcohol contains massive amounts of calories as well. One of the biggest things you can do to cut calories is ditch the booze.

Great post Beebers! If MFP is too complicated, even just keeping a diary of what you eat and drink - don't forget those pesky 200 calories coffees! This makes a huge difference. Seeing what you consume and when plays a massive part.

Well before you even begin to use these apps, you need to know what your BMR is - the basic metabolic rate which YOU personally require just to survive and take it from there, because everyone is different. Then you work out the number of calories you need to consume, depending what your goal is.

We're not talking about dogs that live in city centres. They live in the desert areas around UAQ, where there are few people that they come into contact with. You could not take these dogs and try and put them into homes - it's just not possible. Before people judge this, maybe they need to go and see for themselves the work being done. The team have a vet that deals with any issues and as I said they treat any injured dogs. But they are all well fed and watered - they get visited twice a day. Taking them and sticking them in a shelter for what would most likely be the rest of their lives, would pretty much be cruel. Just because an animal is seen as a domestic type, doesn't mean it is. You have to view them more like, wild dingos, or foxes.

which would otherwise live a terrible life if left out on the streets where starvation, cruelty and death are inevitable. Not necessarily. Look at the work the Animal Welfare Project UAQ are doing. They run TNR programs and have set up specific feeding stations for the wild dogs, donkeys, cats and even some camels. The animals all do very very well. Many of those dogs taken off the street, realistically will never be able to be homed, as they're just too feral. The sick dogs are taken for treatment, and then released back in safe areas, where they know they are getting regular food, water and people are keeping an eye on them. It works extremely well. edited by FairyDust on 16/10/2014

Seriously its not rocket science - how woudl you try your backside if no towels or paper??? It honestly takes seconds, to open up an app on your phone, find a food with similar properties and add it to your calorie counter for the day. I'm sorry, but in your posts I just see excuses and a lack of motivation and will to actually do anything at all. Sitting on an exercise bike a 'few' times a week will do NOTHING! It has to be a complete lifestyle change. Having a ropey knee is no excuse either! Doesn't stop you doing things with hand weights, planks, resistance exercises at all. If YOU want to make a difference, then YOU have to want it badly enough. Cutting out all fats is also a bad move, your body NEEDS good fats to function properly. Your daily intake should consist of protein, carbs and fats! Protein and good carbs should make up the majority, with about 25% fats. It really sounds like you need to sit down with a trainer and a nutritionist and get some motivation in there. The majority of people fail in their weightloss/fitness goals because they expect change to happen instantly - it doesn't! It takes weeks and months to make real change. And you have to put in effort. Being fit and healthy and keeping a good weight takes a lot of hard work. Also don't get hung up on the scales, they can be deceiving! I've actually put on weight, yet managed to shrink nearly 2 inches on all my measurements! How? Because I train - HARD. I've replaced the fat with muscle. A pound of muscle weighs exactly the same as a pound of fat, but muscle is dense, lean tissue and takes up less space = you get slimmer. I threw my scales away a long time ago and go by how my clothes fit. edited by FairyDust on 15/10/2014

"Please do not flush paper down the toilet, put it in the bin provided"? I think its disgusting and seriously wonder why in other parts of the world people are able to flush paper down the toilet and not have problems? Not referring to sanitary towels obviously. Yay or nay? I'm a flusher, sorry. This is also a cultural thing because here, it would be assumed that you have done 98% of your washing with water so there shouldn't be anything on the toilet paper that goes in the trash... And some people clearly choose to shower their entire body, given the state some loos are left in. Vile.

Maybe it's because sadly, if the gender is known early, certain people may try and abort the baby because they prefer boys over girls! We all know very well this happens a LOT in certain countries - I would suspect this is the major reason why some hospitals have this policy and why they will only tell you the gender at a late stage.
