The Iraqi military have been crying for help for ages. If you want 'boots on the ground' let the private contractors go in! Erik Prince said they should have been allowed to do that to start with. Could have dealt with this a long time a go.

I am going to be brutally honest and tell you flat out that your diet is terrible! You need to eat MORE! Your body is in starvation mode as you're eating so little, it's literally clinging onto everything. Eat a proper breakfast - a good smoothie, porridge, egg whites etc. Snack on baby carrots, nuts etc. You should be eating 5 small meals a day. Plus you HAVE to exercise. Don't use the excuse of 'I don't have time' - MAKE time. You need to put aside 30 mins a day. Go for a fast walk, start lifting some weights etc. Losing weight and getting fit is hard work! It takes time and effort.

Well, Barasti has a new Pink ladies night. Girls ONLY between 7.30-9.30, so no annoying blokes trying it on and great for girlie catch ups. 50dhs for your bottomless glass of pink bubbles. It's a good, cheap way to start off, then maybe head to Oneo at the Westin next door.

If you're past your renewal date, go down to RERA and the rent committee, tell them your LL is being unreasonable and doing things outside the law and they can renew the contract for you and you just leave the cheques with them.

I've also heard another company advertised on the radio recently, I think it was Buddy? I wonder if there is much difference in prices between the companies? Buddy is more like Safer Driver - they come and drive your own car home. Heard complaints about Uber messing with prices. I use Careem - absolutely 100% reliable with good drivers.

I love using a nutribullet for breakfast. 50% leafy greens, 50% fruit, handful of nuts, and liquid, be that water, skimmed milk, coconut water etc. Whizz and you have the perfect breakfast - also easy on the digestion first thing in the morning. I saw it in Ace for 199 dhs, is that the standard price for it? I might get one is it ok with frozen fruit and ice cubes in it? I broke my normal blender that way. Wasn't aware they stocked them in the UAE and 199 DOLLARS is nearer the actual price for this thing. I chuck frozen fruit in it - no issues. Actually, Nutribullet retails for less than $100 (US Dollars that is). AED 199 is a good price. Ah I have the 900 Pro one - which is why it's more.

No, it's not possible to change the region of an actual DVD because the regions are different formats i.e. NTSC vs PAL - the frame rates are different. As jojo says, you need a region free DVD player.

Eat clean and keep a food diary. You'd be amazed at how conscious you are of what you eat when you write everything down. Lift weights!!! If you want to shift weight fast, building muscle is the best way and muscle fires up the metabolism and burns calories faster and contrary to popular belief, women DON'T bulk up, you become lean and toned. I've got into Crossfit, conditioning and strength training and I've never seen such big changes so quickly. But you have to work HARD for it.

Some of the rescue groups had a few pugs up for adoption. I think SCADS - Sharjah Cat & Dog Shelter had a couple. Take a look on facebook. Just one thing to bear in mind, is that when the time comes to leave the UAE, many airlines refuse to fly short snouted breeds, because of the issues they have. So worth bearing in mind and checking if you can actually fly these dogs out the country. <em>edited by FairyDust on 01/10/2014</em>

We have this problem in our buildings. The major cause is the fresh air system part of the AC not working properly, so instead of the smells and air being sucked out, it's sent round the system. Your building maintenance need to look into it.

I am not a fan, but I can see it's a good way to go out and celebrate if you are a big group and paying individually, one price for food and drink, don't need to sit down after the meal and count who ordered what. Even the poshest hotel brunches mostly serve some cheap plonk. Much rather go out for a nice evening meal and spend the day at the beach. But here's the thing. We found over the years, that brunches refuse to cater for non-drinkers and are basically penalised for not drinking. We had a massive argument at one venue, who refused to give the non-drinkers a discount, saying it was one price for all - because of the food - whatever! Another reason many people stopped going.

With due respect you should be or your DH asking this information of your company security and embassy. Should your DH have any concerns then he should be bringing them up with his company. The region can change daily so expatwoman in this case is perhaps not the best place to source information. Actually given that there are clearly people on here, whose DH's are working on ground there and in the security and military, it's the 'perfect' place to get insider info. Nonsense, insider info can not be posted here and the point stands that the region is changing on a daily basis therefore it is up to the company to report on security not here. Excuse me? Oh so people working there on a daily basis, doing CP work for companies and military operations don't know what's going on? - Riiiiiiiiight! You can certainly give a good gauge of what's going on. Although, it would be prudent if he had someone as close protection just in case. People are twitchy. Just don't get lost and walk into the 'wrong' house. Everyone carries weapons.

I've had a cc used for buying flights and stuff. Blocked the card. Took a record of all transactions to the bank, filled out the forms and they reimbursed in within a month. Credit card companies have insurance to cover fraudulent use. I never filled out a police report - didn't have to.

Crossfit and conditioning training is amazing! Plus body weight training - where no other equipment is required. You can get your heart rate up just doing these. Squats, push-ups, planks are the kings of exercises.

Great post mrsb! Once you start, and start to see changes, your mentality changes and you also look at eating better as well. Takes me ages to get motivated, but I love it now. Plus having an amazing personal trainer who mixes up everything to make it interesting makes a world of difference. That might be a good place to start - have a few PT sessions.

As a slight aside, I've never quite understood how the 2 months penalty works when most/many of us will have paid in 1 or 2 cheques. Landlords will be sitting on more than 2 months rent in a lot of cases. Are they obliged to pay any amount over 2 months rent back to the tenant? We left our first property after 8 months, rent paid in 1 cheque, and didn't get anything refunded. Very good reason never to pay in one cheque! Yes - the standard penalty is two month and the landlord must refund the rest.

Do you really think that dolphins in Musandam are not in some kind of captivity?? They're not captive in any way shape or form! They are free swimming in the ocean, and they CHOOSE to come in and play in the bow wakes of the dhows. They come into the sheltered waters to calve. I've swum with a wild school of dolphins in the mangroves in Abu Dhabi - they come and play around the boats. They CHOOSE to interact with people, not forced to. ETA: Exactly right Nomad. All I would ask is that people at the very least watch these movies - log onto the Cove Guardian site and SEE what is happening and what they contribute to when they go to these things. If then, you can still go with a clear and clean conscience, that's up to you. But at least look into in first. Education is key and when so many people are turning their backs, boycotting and protesting against dolphinariums and water parks - what does that tell you? <em>edited by FairyDust on 22/09/2014</em>

Looking for somebody sharing her experience in DOING it :) not somebody asking NOT to do :) And what life lesson is this to give your child? That murder and animal abuse are ok? Go and watch the suggested films, then come back and say you can go and support these places with a clear conscience. People are trying to educate others like you, that this is no longer an acceptable activity. When you go to these things, you DIRECTLY support murder and abuse. India has declared that dolphins are sentient beings and classed them as 'non-human' citizens that are protected and with rights. People are fighting the world over to shut these places down. In response, I will clarify the point I made as it seems without correct grammar it is irrelevant. The reason why it took an expat to start it is because carseats are important to western expatriates because western governments have invested a lot of money into educating their people. The same money has not been invested in the same things locally. This investment has made western expatriates knowledgeable. Over the years, knowledge has come across as betterment. This began, amusingly, with English speaking expatriates talking down to non-native English speakers, as though the language, and knowing it, somehow made them superior. In time, the local community grew resentful of the attitudes and whatever was said by one of these expatriates was seen as another way to act superior. It was not seen for what is really was. In this case, a way to save lives. This is a stereotype. Stereotypes are seen before people. So before the listener sees a person trying to help, they see a person trying to make them [the listener'> appear uneducated. Automatically, the listeners becomes defensive and nothing is heard. By stepping down, the gate is now open that a local can pose the idea to the government, that a local in a higher position with knowledge can pose the idea. And, it will not be a case of the expatriate feeling smug - that they WERE RIGHT - it will be a case of the right thing being done based on the facts. This is politics. Politics I can predict played a role in Lesley walking away as this is a large, uphill climb for a foreigner. edited by Londiamond on 21/09/2014 I understand what you're saying and I agree, to a point. It's a little sad that people would put their own feelings above the safety of others. After all, a good idea and education, is a good idea and education - no matter WHO it comes from. Very very sad news that Buckle up in the Back will be no more. Lesley wrote a status update on the facebook page, stating that with a heavy heart, she was shutting down the campaign, due to running costs, time and other reasons. I think it's shocking that there is STILL no law that states children must be strapped in, in a vehicle, use child seats etc. There is no doubt in my mind that Buckle Up has saved countless lives with the education and awareness programs. Lesley deserves much praise and thanks for all that she's done over the years.

Please DON'T support this cruel practice and it IS cruel! These dolphins were not bred in captivity, but torn from their family pod in the wild, many of them having to watch their family members be brutally murdered. If you want to know where the majority of these dolphins come from, just look up Sea Shephard's Cove Guardians, who are right now, in Taiji Cove (the killing cove) Japan, having to watch the cove turn red, day after day with the blood of these beautiful ones being massacred in their hundreds. The lucky ones - if you can call them that, are manhandled out of the tiny pens and transported by truck and flown all over the globe to dolphinariums, to live a life of captivity. They are starved and abused to force them to 'perform' for human entertainment. Their life spans are virtually cut in half being kept in captivity. I'm sorry, but I will never understand why some people find this acceptable - it's not. Watch The Cove and Blackfish - or log on and watch the live streaming updates from the Cove Guardians and see the brutality against these marvelous, intelligent animals - and they are intelligent. Just because they don't walk on two legs or speak the same language doesn't mean people should dismiss that. They're complex animals. Humans need to stop abusing animals for their own entertainment. Book a trip to the Musandam and see them in the wild. Or arrange to go out with the Dubai Dolphin Project to survey them in the UAE costal waters. <em>edited by FairyDust on 21/09/2014</em>

Depends on the reason for removing the mole. If it's cosmetic, then usually not covered by insurance, but for other reasons it should be. My insurance has always paid, apart from once and I had about 5 removed by a plastic surgeon and cost about 1,200 Dhs. But it will vary from clinic to clinic. Best to call and ask.
