Firstly you need to check the rules of where you are living. Poultry are classed as livestock and not pets, so will be banned from most communities. Why is a cockerel allowed to live in a villa and roam the streets in Jum 1 ? I find it quite outstanding - cock a doodle dooo - glad I can't actually hear him from my place, that would drive me insane! Trouble is those aren't actual communities are they, but mostly private villas, so people do what they want. But community areas governed by Emaar, DPG etc clearly state in all the community rules that livestock are not allowed and if caught the get they municipality to remove them. Hens aren't a major issue, it's the cockerels that scream at the crack of dawn that are the problem. <em>edited by FairyDust on 18/09/2014</em>

Therapy and having a support group is essential. I found many psychiatrists are too eager to medicate, rather than looking at alternative options. The meds can very often turn you into a complete, unfeeling, zombie - not much fun. Depending on the degree of the condition and whether it's Bipolar 1 or 2 or cyclothemia, and the degree, depends on what treatment course.

My brother in law entered the UAE from the UK 29 days ago, does that mean he has to do a visa run by tomorrow or does he have a further 10 day grace period to do the visa run without any penalties?? my understanding is that we actually get 40 days so yes he should be ok up to day 39 Yes, you get an extra 10 days. Hubby was on day 36, so no issues.

Loose clothing and cotton underwear also help alot. Sadly some people are just prone to outbreaks. Diflucan in one or two doses usually does the trick and sorts symptoms pretty quickly. But sometimes the infection can be such that stronger meds are required. Awful condition.

Fairy Dust, glad everything went smoothly. Just want to weigh in on the insurance debate. I have done numerous runs and have not once been asked about insurance. I have it, but have never been asked. I wasn't asked about insurance either, but then I get Oman coverage as standard with RSA, so it doesn't bother me. I hate to say it, but getting stopped really depends what you look like - they wave all the westerners / locals straight through, whereas they were stopping all other nationalities. I stopped to give PP's for checking and was pretty much shoo'd on. So that's also a consideration and sadly just a simple fact. <em>edited by FairyDust on 16/09/2014</em>

Amazing things with laxative properties - prunes, pineapple and coconut water. A mug of warm milk with honey before bed is also great for constipation, plus helps you sleep. It;s a fine line adding extra fiber, as too much can make you constipated as well. I also saw Michelle and she is lovely I found it quite painful but I am extremely sensitive to pain for some reason - any way, it should easily be bearable for a normal person OK you're slowly persuading me. I may go and see her. It;s a short term pain for a good outcome. It's worth doing to be honest. Can't hurt to have a consult at least. Good luck :)

FairyDust - I thought it was a three year project? Are you working on the SZ side eg Gulf News area? I heard it was tricky round there. What about Al Wasl? Any idea if it will be disrupted soon or will they stick to the SZ road and Safa park pieces first? If they do SZ and Al Wasl road at the same time it will be a nightmare! Yes, it's awful. I think the Shk Zayed rd diversions will last for a year. Traffic on Al Wasl is a nightmare at the best of times.

The roadworks have been underway for quite sometime now. But lately the heavy gear has been moved in. I wish I didn't work in the middle of it, as it gets worse every day.

One question. How painful ? The eyebrows are ok, but the liner? Geez! I had emla cream put in. It's more the vibration than anything. Also depends on your tolerance to pain. You have to bear in mind this is a needle going into the skin - it hurts, just the same as any tattoo, no two ways about it.

Platinum membership is only if you want to use gyms all over the place. Easier just to have a home gym membership. The prices will vary as maybe your friends joined during promotional offer periods. Personally there are better gyms out there these days.

many thanks Fairydust. Is it Dr. Murtaza Bandukwala? I called GMC who said to call Ultra Care. I am a little confused though it seems this particular Dr. works at different clinics. I have had moles removed in past and my father passed away from skin cancer so really want to see the best available here. My last check in Australia the Dr. was very flippant about it. Hi Goldilocks, Sorry, been busy. Dr Murtaza works at a couple of different clinics including the GMC. But at Dermacare, which is the specialist clinic I was referred to, who also do the mole mapping, it's Dr IkramullahAl Nasir - and he only work there.

Skin cancer is the most severe and aggressive form of cancer there is, and if not caught early the prognosis can be difficult Sorry to hear about your issues, but the above statement is absolutely not correct. Skin cancer can indeed be serious but overall survival rates are *much* higher than most other cancers. Pancreatic cancer is one of the most severe and aggressive cancers, and it's notorious for being largely symptom-free until it's spread so far that it's untreatable and terminal. Sadly, the majority of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer will only have a matter of months to live. edited by Madge_Gustard on 06/09/2014 I'm not going to argue a response to this! Way to go, to make a serious and educational post trivial! Fact is most cancers are serious and life threatening if not caught early on. Fact is, many skins cancers can also show no symptoms - mine certainly didn't and it was only because I go every year and the one that was malignant hadn't changed in years and looked as it had always done. Too many are diagnosed too late. Excuse me for relaying what ALL my docs have reiterated to me. Excuse me, for feeling brave and wanting to share and encourage other people to go and get checked. I initially went to the dermatologist at the GMC on Beach rd. I get my moles checked every year. There were a couple he decided he didn't like and took them off for biopsy. When it came back as malignant, he referred me over to Dermacare Skin centre on Al Wasl. The Dr there does not mess about. He's very thorough and they do all the mole mapping there as well. Not good when you see someone who is dismissive - you cannot mess about with this. If in doubt, take it off and biopsy it.

This happened to me when I first arrived in Dubai and I posted on the forum just incase there was an unwritten rule that if you are in local attire that you must let everyone in. I was naive back then. That's exactly what I did last night haha. If I was at home I know exactly what I would say to someone doing that! Unless we know (and fully understand) the child's medical history / treatment plans, noone can comment on whether this was right or not but obviously the hospital had serious concerns for the child to alert the police in the first place. And on the flipside, the parents were seriously concerned that the best treatment was not being given to their child. I don't think the hospital or the police had any right to do what they did. Find it utterly appalling to be honest. And keeping the parents locked up and the rest of family away from the little boy is helping him how exactly? <em>edited by FairyDust on 02/09/2014</em>

Really? Usually in such cases the NHS happily let the patient travel to where appropriate treatment is available, if they don't offer it themselves. 'Sometimes' they will fund it - not always. The treatment is still quite experimental in the UK, so their first line of treatment was radiotherapy and chemo, which the parents didn't want. <em>edited by FairyDust on 02/09/2014</em>

I haven't seen any other sides, other than that the effective treatment they wanted for their son, was denied to them by the NHS, so they went to Spain to get it. But it deosn't say why it was denied.... wheither it was unavailabe or not a viable option for their child. The boy had already had surgery. The treatment they wanted, the NHS only uses for eye cancer not brain cancer. Whereas in Spain it's available across the board.

I meant all apartments doesn't come with parking space, so it's nothing you should assume that you have access to, unless stated in the rental agreement. But they can't charge you for it either UNLESS it's stated in the rental agreement.

However, for this to be the case, this property actually needed to have done this advertising and the tenant actually had to have made a decision with this in mind for it to be considered a part of the contract. If it as not advertised no included in the agreement, then it was a tenant assumption that it was a part of the deal - and assumptions are not included in contracts for the most part. Give it go a with RERA and see if you can get around it though. It is your money after all. But if it's not stated in the contract that 3,000 dhs is to be paid for parking - that's NOT allowed! My contract states clearly that my apartment comes with 1 parking space. If it's not stated that you pay for one, you don't have to. Cuts both ways.

We have lived for 15 years in the same flat. Our LL has started charging us dhs3000 for parking the last 3 years. It is not in the contract but if you tell him that he says you are free to leave and move somewhere else if you want. Now we just pay. Most parking slots in our building are empty now as people do not want to pay the parking anymore. Rent is bad enough and now parking space is the new way to get more money out of tenants. And sadly THIS is why LL's bully people and get what they want, as tenants don't know their rights and don't fight! If it's not in your contract he can't charge you for it. RERA would tell him that flat out. You might as well be burning that cash as you're paying for something you don't have to and your LL is breaking the law.

That's not. BUT as a 'human-being' it would be responsible to make sure she at least is going somewhere safe. And everyone seems to forget the innocent party - the child. Honestly some people are so heartless. The responsible thing to do (for all concerned) would be for her to leave the country so at least she can't be jailed for her mistake. It may not seem 'fair' but we all know the rules when we move here and we abide by them or take the consequences. The reality is she can't be here pregnant with an illegitimate child. If she has problems and needs medical care she will be reported and her husband will find out. The longer she leaves it to go home the less likely it is she will be able to hide it from her husband. It's horrible but what other choice does she have? What would you honestly do? Keep her her and risk her being jailed? What if she requires medical care but doesn't miscarry - she will end up giving birth in jail. I am well aware of that. I'm just saying - it's a consideration.

What a horrible situation. She really needs to tell you the truth about it. One thing that no one is considering though - and just from the human point of view - is obviously she's been unfaithful and I know it's not your problem. But what will her husband/family do when confronted with an adulterous wife and illegitimate child? We all know that some of these countries and people take a horrific view of it, so you might have to be prepared that she will freak out at the prospect of being sent home, to a possibly life endangering situation.

I think a lot of people are going over to the blender option, because with juicing you throw away so much of the fruit/veggies and it's such a waste. Plus they're a pain to clean. Look up some recipes that you can use the pulp for, or start composting :)

As others have said, not a juicer, but an extractor and blender - what about a Nutribullet? Best thing since sliced bread as far as I'm concerned. You don't waste the pulp and can make soups and other things using it as well. I've made all sorts of concoctions as meal replacements. Also comes with some good recipe books.

K9 Friends are the only organisation in Dubai that actually have a shelter, or there's SCAD's in Sharjah. All the other organisations rely on foster homes for their rescue animals. All the Mazaya villas in The Villa have their own pool. The villas are massive though. Don't think there are any that have less than 3 bedrooms.

Does the forum have a 'block/ignore' function? Which would allow you to hide her posts? Poor show from the admin that they would allow it to continue and not do anything. I had someone like that on a forum and this person was a psycho, she even followed me onto another forum, but it was very obvious from the start that she was a crazy stalker and the other forum members shut her down and chased her off pretty quickly, as they just wouldn't stand for it. Maybe if you a friendly with some other forum members, get them to comment and tell this lady what a fool she's making of herself. People like that just come across as pathetic, so ignoring and blocking is the way to go.

there is little one can do except what you have which is remove your child. Actually from experience this is the worst thing you can do, as the child never learns to stand up for themselves and address the issues. As someone who was bullied mercilessly for about 10 years at school, for the most pathetic and ridiculous reasons ever - bad surname, wore glasses, had big fuzzy hair - I can well believe an accent can cause bullying. OP, needs to teach her son that bullies are cowards, once you stand up to them and they realise you're not afraid, then usually back off. The majority of time, bullies have major self confidence issues themselves, and they pick on others to make themselves feel better. My parents tried everything, but it wasn't until I found my self confidence and stood up to them, to the point I smacked one boy in the face, that they finally left me alone. <em>edited by FairyDust on 28/08/2014</em>
