I think it's also called Babyliss Perfect Curl - you can get it from lookfantastic.com but don't think it'll be here in time for Christmas. I've also seen it on souq.com so have a look.

Sorry can't help you with your question but just thought the ladies on here would like to know - http://www.theculturist.com/home/rubber-duck-by-florentijn-hofman-not-coming-to-dubai.html I'm in two minds to go see it considering it's a replica/rip-off which seems kind of sad.

Glad you found some styles you liked. You could check the Labels e-store to get a feel for prices. https://www.labelsestore.com/ These would not be reflective of prices in Dubai though as I have no idea about what Asma or anyone else here might charge. Lahore is wonderful and I hope you enjoy the wedding festivities. I think people will be more interested in making you feel welcome and comfortable rather than the other way around!

TDB - My only concern was the billing address (not the shipping address). It wouldn't let me put in a local UAE billing address on the Gap website. I will try mannikat's suggestion and take it from there.

Next Direct is great - hassle free! Just to confirm if I understood correctly - I put in my local card number/info and then just plug in the SnS address in the billing info section? No need to put in the Dubai PO Box billing information?

Hmm.. I'm trying to save my local CC information on Gap.com and it does't even give another country option for the card billing address. I have set shipping to the UAE so I could save my card info at least but all I get is a list of US states and demands for a valid zip code and daytime phone number!

Oh brilliant! Some of the websites I checked insisted that the billing and shipping address should be the same or at least be from the same country so it's good to know that there are several websites that do allow this. Thanks!

I have bought multiple vouchers several times even when it says one voucher per person. I have no problem redeeming them. For example, I might get a couple of vouchers for a blow-dry and then use them on two separate occasions during the validity period.

Do any of you ladies know if the BBQ areas in Safa Park have designated lighting and are well lit once it gets dark? I know the park has lighting but just wanted to check if an evening bbq would be possible. We don't want to be cooking/eating by flashlight or in very dim lighting. Thanks.

It's listed as Arabian Emirates in the drop-down menu. No need to get bogged down in any Karama traffic. If coming from AD on Sh Zayed Rd, cross the Trade Center interchange and head towards Bur Dubai/Ruler's Court exit/underpass. Once you come out of the short tunnel thingy, stay on the right side and you should see the Post Office on your right after you cross the first signal. Turn right at the next lane, and then right again into the post office parking gate. You should park towards the back as there are more spaces and it's right next to the main building entrance for international parcel collection. Good luck.

Just to add, there should be plenty of parking in the Post Office parking lot near the main entrance, so don't try parking on the street, and they are not very busy on the international parcel desk so shouldn't take too long. Having said that, there is a slight chance that you might not receive the parcel but that is rare.

CP is right - you need to head down to Karama Post Office and check there. I've just gone through the same with two packages so I can guide you on how to retreive them (if it hasn't been too long!) Your packages are usually too big to fit into a PO 'Box' so the local postal service arbitrarily decides not to deliver it. The usual system is for them to leave a paper slip/notice in your post box asking you to collect it from the Karama post office or the Jumeirah post office. My advice would be to head down to Karama post office with all the relevant tracking numbers. As you haven't received any slip/notification in your office post box (neither did I), just head to Counter 18 (I fairly certain that's the number or just ask at reception for international parcel collection) and give them the tracking numbers. They will print out the notices for you. Then head back to the reception and get the token for the Parcel collection counter and wait for your turn. They should then take the notices and give you your packages. If you want, you can have a look on this website as you might have some luck! http://www.trackitonline.ru/?service=track&CCode=AE Hope you get your packages!

According to the Duty Free website, it is AED 1399. If you google Dubai Duty Free, it comes up with a product listing (updated October 2013).

Thanks everyone. I have had a look at the ones in the supermarkets (Brabantia and others) but haven't seen one with a foam inset. I think Lakeland is the way to go. I'll probably cut it to size if it is too large and then just have the cloth cover stretched out on top!

My Brabantia ironing stand came with a cloth cover and a separate thin foam insert that was placed underneath. The foam insert has now worn down to the point that when I iron clothes, they get an imprint of the metal mesh from the ironing board frame. I have only seen new cloth covers in the stores but none with a foam insert included. Any idea where I could find a new cloth cover and foam insert combo or just the foam insert? Thanks.

I tried this yesterday and it tasted delicious. However, I'm not sure about the consistency of the pudding. I used a deep french white corningware casserole dish and I baked it at 180C for about 15 min until I could see it bubbling. Then I let it sit for 20 odd min before serving. Should there still have been a lot of very runny milk at the bottom after baking? I know the dessert is supposed to be moist and gloopy but this was quite liquid-y so I'm not sure if I did something wrong. I brought the milk/cream/condensed milk mixture to a boil and poured it over the croissants and nuts. Are we supposed to boil it and reduce it before doing that? Any tips appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks! I'll have a look at my local corner shop for the toffee chips or store bought toffee sauce. I'm assuming the pain au chocolat is the store-bought one (seen them at Spinneys in the bread section). (Also, a big thank you to Ginnee for the original recipe!)

Stovetop - Would you mind sharing the quantities of hershey's chocolate and toffee sauce you used in your recipe variation? I'm not a confident cook so have no idea how to play it by ear with a recipe. Also, did you make the toffee sauce or was it store bought? Thanks.

Interesting. I do know lots of people do share apartments (same gender) but I was under the impression that it was under the radar. I wonder what people will do for visas etc now that the tenancy contract/ejari should be in their own names. Anyway, I wish the government would just clarify their position on these things so as to make it easier for the rest of us! I will ask him to have a look at the flatshare option. So far Dubizzle shows up dodgy bed-spots in karama or expensive options in marina/downtown. Thanks guys.

That is the most logical option, Tallybalt, and would be the done thing anywhere in the world but I was under the impression that it is considered illegal. Wasn't there a long thread about this recently when a poster was inquiring about where to rent a villa to share with her housemates? Am I wrong?

Thanks Feefmick. I have seen places for that much on Dubizzle but it seems ridiculous for a student to have to pay 40k+ per year in rent when they get a very small stipend. Anyway I will let him know and he can make his own informed decision.

International City not the best of options as he will be commuting to work on public transport. Something with metro access might be a better option as there is a metro stop right outside his place of work. He will have a valid visa for a year sponsored by the firm. I just don't know what that visa will be called but I'm pretty sure it won't be a residence visa valid for 3 years. So far it looks like it's tough for students on placement years here unless they inject a lot of their own cash to meet living expenses.

A cousin has secured a work placement for a year in Dubai during his gap year from university in the UK. He has asked me to find out about where he could live as he will be getting a meager stipend from his work. I'm not sure what type of visa the company will issue so will it be possible for him to get an annual tenancy contract for a studio if he doesn't have a residence visa? (Not sure what the rules are for this). I've had a look on Dubizzle but the options seem to be way too expensive for a student on a placement year. I would love any information and/or ideas that I can pass on to him! Thanks.

If anyone on here does try it, please let us know how the delivery process went (correct order, on time, etc). Trolley.ae already has good feedback from those that have tried it so it would be good to have an alternative as it seems Geant has a larger variety of items available for online delivery. Thanks.

I did a search on this a couple of months ago and came up with this thread ... http://www.expatwoman.com/qatar/forum/topic194758-can-you-buy-distilled-water-here.aspx I needed distilled water for my steam iron, so went and bought 'battery water' (as it is called at the ENOC/EPPCO) stations. I did use it in my iron but I'm not entirely convinced it's okay to use as it doesn't specifically say distilled water on it. I would not be comfortable using it on my face. Having said that, you could always call the factory mentioned in the link and see how that goes. Let us know if you have any luck. Thanks.
