I'll contact ghem but am a bit wearry, given that last time we were in contact with them they confirmed we paid everything only to send us a bill after we left Dubai.... Grrrrr! It's probably just me overreacting anyway, i hope

Short story is we left Dubai a year ago, gave DU back their gear, paid all the dues and thought that was it. Well, months after, we started recieving emails( rarely and with no follow-up) from some recuperator company. In the end it turns out that we had to pay another DU bill, after they told us all is paid and well. We paid, no issues there. But i remember stories from some time ago where people ended up in similar situation and were picked up by police at the airport. And now DH is going for a short business trip to Dubai and i start to worry. What if? Am i paranoid? How can i check? I'll give him a copy of the receipt to show we paid, just in case. What if they put him on some debtor list and forgot to clear him? Please put my mind at ease

I/ve started it recently but stopped along the way and managed not to put on any weight. But I don't dive into sweets, breads and other carbs. Plan on starting again in March and stick to it. Found it easier than other diets as the restrictive bit is only short term- the only protein days and even than I could eat as much chicken and fish as I liked. Plus the dairy stuff. I would mix some yoghurt with a bit of vanilla essence and it was a nice dessert. I used this site for recipes http://mydukandiet.com/

We stayed at the Jesselton in KK and then at the Nexus Karambunai. Rasa Ria was over our budget since we stayed for almost 2 weeks. Nexus was nice though, but it's not the Shangri La. Good for golf holidays. Pool and kiddy club and overall things for children are better at the Shangri La. If you go you must do the canopy walk at mount Kinabalu. I think it was one of the most amazing things ever. That and seeing baby Ten- little orangutan born on 10.10.2010 :-)

It's great for kids! They have a very nice kids club, a great kiddie pool, the orangutan reserve. We haven't actually stayed there but visited and loved it. Kota Kinabalu on the whole is a very nice and child friendly place. we stayed for 5 days in KK and did trips everyday, lots of things to do, and then moved on to a resort. It was a really nice holyday. And Rasa Ria is a very nice resort, you'll have a great time!

We went to Kota Kinabalu in Borneo in October last year. 4 nights in town and we did lots of tours and sightseeing, then moved to a beach resort- there is a Shangri-la with their own orangutan nature reserve. And very child friendly! I loved the whole holiday! Taiwan is also very nice and lots of things to do.

I get phone calls in Chinese, apparently it's a normal sales tactic here in Hong Kong. I have no idea what they are talking about but I once had a 5 min conversation with them using the only 2 words I know in Cantonese. It was fun! I can imagine your frustration though, maybe pretending you don't speak English would have helped. Anyway, glad it'solved and no more pestering phone calls.

Thank you for starting this thread! I spend the last week crying after Dubai and I left nearly a year ago. We miss everything from Dubai( except the prices- we didn't really manage to save anything while there). We miss our house in the Springs, our garden, the multitude of toys we had in the garden, the fact that we could just open the door and let the kids run around, I miss my coffee mornings and afternoon teas, the easiness of meeting people and getting kids together. I miss the constant blue skies and sunshine, even the summer heat. I miss having bbq's in the garden and going to the 'hidden' beach on Jumeirah Rd every Friday morning. We're in HK now, living in an apartment and I don't even have a balcony! It takes us 10 min to get to the car parked in the underground garage! I have a pool and playground but I miss the Lakes club and Safa Park, or the picnics with friend at Umm Suqeim park. If DH could get a job in Dubai we'd be back there in a jiffy!

Depends what you want from the holiday, like sightseeing, relax... London is easy to move around as long as you avoid the tube with the stroller. HK has cheap taxis and good metro system. However there are lots of hilly areas. Weather is very nice in April in HK though

Hi turn3r, Disney in HK is quite small so you can do all of it in 1 day. You probably won't even be able to get on all the rides as they have height restrictions. I also recommend Ocean Park, the kids playground is on the far right, called Whiskers Harbour, if i remember correctly. They are both fun things to do with a kid( Disney and Ocean park). I used to live in Dubai and am now in HK so if you need any tips for your visit let me know!

We used Arabian Nights and had our car seats for the kids. A 3 yo and a 5 month old. Initially I was reluctant to take the 5 mo and they provide you with a car to take you straight to the camp. But since we took the car seats and DH was in the back with her and supporting her head we ventured and it was great. We had to pay a bit extra because we were using the seats but it was all worth it. I also think the dune bashing did wonders for baby's upset tummy.

Fairfield, i've got the Hopen chest of 4 drawers, brown/ black color. I'd like 250 for it. I've just sold the bookcases and feel like the worst seller in the world. I dropped the price so much that now i feel bad about it, it was real peanuts! It's the first time i'm selling stuff so i guess i can easily be taken for a ride by experienced hagglers.

Miss Balamory I have a couple of Expedit bookcases( one is 4x4 the other is 2x4), a children's bunk bed, one sideboard kitchen unit and a chest of drawers. Also a few baby things. And some books! Had a couple of garage sales and NOBODY got any books- mostly adults books but a few children ones! I'd like to give the books away to a library or something like that? Is it possible?

I've generally done 50-60% off. I had a garage sale but none of the big items got sold, just electronics and smaller bits and pieces. I also have baby things that DD outgrew, like her mosses basket that I get no interest in. And that is a really good brand. And then DH comes and says put a higher price and then we let it drop to what we'd like! Grrrrrrrrrr! I should just let him try to sell!

I wasn't keen on America until I've actually went there. Seen a few states and I love it. Also BIL is American! I haven't had any funny chats, however my sister and my cousin where once asked at a baseball game if they speak "european" among themselves

I was curious how an 8 yo with botox looks so here is the original article with photos of the mother and daughter. I think it is sad that a mother cannot see the natural beauty of her own child. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/woman/3485305/I-give-my-girl-8-Botox-for-pageant.html She really believe she is doing it for her daughter's good but it doesn't make it right!

Just discovered a very big mouse, probably rat in the house. Hubby is pretty freaked out as he was the one that discovered it. It's now, hopefully locked in the laundry room but what do we do with it?!?

Mine lasts about a day and a half I'd say. I tend to charge it daily as it's handy to just plug it at the computer. I think wi-Fi also uses battery a lot

How silly! Rather than inviting him again at the restaurant and trying to mend it they decide to spend more money and sue him. Puts me off dining at Benihana if that is how they solve their issues.

It's s UK company but the ME branch. We're worried they will claim we are not entitled to benefits as we have refused the job offered. In my mind, being a new job it should be taken as such and start with a new contract while the old one ends. Also, DH seems to think he will have to willingly resign so he won't get any benefits.

I saw something in a magazine recently where there was a long piece of fabric with 'loops' that you can slide your handbags into and this would hang on the back of a door. Similar to a shoe holder I guess.! I think i've got smth similar from Ikea a while ago

My grandmother once told me she is leaving me all of her assets and land. I told her it's not nice to my sisters and they should get a share as well. Last year she decided to give us her jewellery. She put aside the biggest piece for me then gave me first choice of choosing what else I wanted. However, my grandmother practically raised me when I was a child, I spent all my time with her and everyone knows that I am her little treasure so no one was surprised. I think it all depends on the family dynamics and stronger attachments. Not giving anything at all is quite rude though, esp at Christmas.
