CRT is the kind of hard contact lenses that kids with nearsightedness use at night while sleeping. Supposedly they help to improve the eye sights, at least prevent the eye sights from getting worse. I am just wondering if we can get those lenses in Dubai, and which doctors should we go to?

Go for Maytag washer and dryer. They are work horses and can do tons of wash in one go.

TV won't work there. Not just the voltage difference, the systems are not the same. I would just sell most of the elec. stuff here and use the money to buy new in the US. There are plenty of sales and things are way cheaper. As for DVD player, basically the cheapest, crappiest ones will play everything. The expensive ones are more picky. So maybe they should bring their current one, use with a voltage converter. And also try to get a cheap new one there and see if it can play the UK DVDs. <em>edited by floppy123 on 25/07/2012</em>

Check out the website dubizzle.com for used cars. We just sold one of ours on that website. There are so many postings each day. My ad dissapeared to the Nth page within hours. But still plenty of calls and I sold the car within days.

He is really advising the rest of us to stay out of the way of those hungry crazy drivers for our own benefit:) Yeah I do agree 6pm is the most dangrous time of the day now. The way they drive is scary. Do stay away from the road if you can around that time of the day.

Also Doha did not work. More expensive, but Bahrain worked. About the same fare as from Cairo. At least in this case. BTW I finally bought tickets from Emirates website. For some reason the price on Friday July 27 is a lot lower than 10 days before or 10 days after it. Could it be the fact that it is the first Friday in Ramadan? Just guessing. <em>edited by floppy123 on 09/07/2012</em>

It depends on how much hassle you're willing to take for a cheaper ticket. Something that always works out much cheaper than starting your trip from Dubai is starting it from another Middle East destination, eg. Dubai-Houston: book one-way ticket DXB-Cairo (Fly Dubai etc.), then round-trip Cairo-Houston via Dubai (you will fly Cairo-DXB-Houston-DXB and then don't use the last lag DXB-Cairo). Price differences starting from destinations other than Dubai are huge since EK uses the revenues from local passengers to subsidize their low international fares for transit passengers. Wow just tried, it really is the case! In my case, travelling from Cairo-Dubai-US city on the date I want in late July comes to $947, and if going Dubai-US city, same flight same date, it comes to $1181. This is so unfair! LOL. But nice to know the trick now. Thanks!

Hi thanks for the info. I will give it a try. I am just spoiled by sites like kayak that typically give out fares way much lower than actual airline websites. Guess Emirates works differently.

But will it bleach the colour out of the school logo???? It depends. I bleached a white polo tshirt, with dark blue logo and blue strips along edge of collar. It says on tag 'No Bleach' but the white shirt was several years old and got a bit dark and yellowish. So I dipped it in chlorine bleach anyway. It came out shiny white. Logo and collar are both fine! So you might want to do a bit experiment with an old shirt or something first to see what would happen~~

I don' t have specifics but I went to watch a piano competition and the kids from Sharjah Russian Music School (not sure exact name) were super. Played amazingly well. I am guessing they must have super good piano teachers there.

Glad to see that you got replacement. Actually the first thing I thought for this problem was to just go to the store and ask for a replacement. I would not have accepted a repair in the first place, as it was only two weeks old and was an expensive electronics item. You bought a new and functioning product and 2 weeks later you should not have settled with a defect and repired one. I think this should be the norm anywhere in the world. But maybe not here though:)

Well the letter thing probably is intended for people visiting relatives etc. Can you get a letter from the tour company, or just show a copy of your itinerary? I would just put everything together and go to their office and apply. Don't even mention the letter thing. If they take in the application and tell you to pay for the visa, then you are fine. Otherwise they would ask specifically the things they are looking for, and you will know which ones are really needed. I think they care more about the employment letter (or your bank account) so they know you can afford the trip:)

You get to see all kinds of interesting characters when you have a sale like this. Just don't get personal. If they want bargain then bargain with them and say no if you feel so. When I tried to clean out all the baby stuff a while ago, I got similar people asking if he could get everything on offer (books and dvds mostly) for 150dhs. I told him just the books would be 100dhs and that was after I considered that he was going to take all of them. At the end he took the books plus some dvds but not all things for 150dhs. So I made a sale and he got his bargain. Honestly I don't really like to bargain with people. But if you want to do a sale, you have to put up with it. Just consider it a job that needs to be done.

You can download and print forms from their website. Regular wait is about 4 working days, but if you pay more, you can get visa approved the same day or maybe next day.

Try read with your child everyday at home. This way you develop his interest in reading, and teach him how to read the same time. Don't rely too much on school. They have to take care of the entire class and can not do too much with each child individually. Most of the good readers learn to read at home. See if you can work with the teacher or school librarian to come up with a book list. Read them one by one with your son, and sooner or later he will improve and love to read.

Don't know about this one, but I tried to sell some baby stuff on dubizzle awhile ago. Never did anything like that before, and it was quite some experience. The easiest people are western expats. If they agree on the price listed, they just arrange time for inspection and pick up. Really nice and easy. But I got constant messages such as 'how about 300' for something listed for 700, or '500 I will take it' for something 1100. And if they show up (which is a big if even agreed on phone already), they will still ask 'what is the lowest price?' It could be cultural thing I guess, some people are used to bargain and some never know how to do it.

Our's is outside 365 days per year and never had one problem. I'm sure it would take direct blow torch type flame to cause it to blow up. You all make me feel better now. By outside you mean it sometimes will be under direct sun exposure in summer? I will have to put it in the back yard so even if I try to make some kind of shade, the temperature there would still be much hotter than say in a corner of the car porch which is always shaded. So I guess I should still be safe:)

So am I better off canceling her visa tomorrow, saying she just didn't work out and sending her home instead of taking her back and having to hand over her passport and deal with getting her marriage certificate attested etc and going thru that hassle If I can't let her stay why would I put everyone through the later? Don't they have a record now? Are they going to give her trouble if she tries to leave now without submitting proof of marriage?

If one service rep is not willing to help, just hang up and call again to speak to another one. I tried to book one ticket using points. It was for my hubby, using his points and credit card (to pay for taxes) under his name. The website deducted the points but stuck after the cc payment page. I called but the person just refused to deal with me. Called again and that one helped me to complete the booking. Yes their website is really bad. Good luck. <em>edited by floppy123 on 03/04/2012</em>

Can you get hold of a handyman/maintance guy nearby such as in a compound? We got them to put in our dryer and the location of our dryer required extra long vent pipe and they brought in all needed materials, pipes included.

Out of all the food items they sell here, I find it strange that ice cream is so expensive even the one liter containers from supermarket. Why is it then? I even find imported ones from UK and US even cheaper than the locally made brands. Strange indeed.

Hi, don' t get discouraged, just try to do 2 or 3 pieces from the book each day. Do it correctly, ie. with prep time, understand the key signature, count the beats, get the fingers correctly, and pay attention to dynamics. It is ok to take longer than required time, as long as he learns something from each practice. The actual exam piece seems to be easier than the practice ones. My S is Grade 5 now. He struggledwith sightreading each and every time for exam, but came out alright. Not perfect score, but decent enough not to prevent him from getting distinction for the last two exams. I think the sightreading is still the hardest part of the exam, but they also learn so much by doing the practice. So relax and get the most out the exercises, he will be fine~

Another thought, if she is telling the truth, then by all means help her however you can for it was such a terrible event. If she lies, then really you would not want someone with such character to be inside of your home. So let her go in either case.

What does she get from faking in such a big way? Just the permission to go home and a free trip paid by you? Do you have to pay for the trip in strict business sense anyway? I just don't see if she just wants to go home for a visit, why can't she speak to you honestly and see what you can both agree on.

Hello, Well as you plan to visit Jerash on the second day, option would be to combine it with Amman as its just about a 40 minute drive from there. You could visit the citadel in Amman. Its not really a must, but you get the flavour of the capital city. HTH Thank you. This sounds like a good idea. But we will be doing hotel arranged trip. I don't know if they would be flexible on that. We will get a taxi all by ourselves so maybe it is easier to negotiate. Also do you think Umm Qais is worth going to? One option they offer is after Jerash, we can go on to Umm Qais for another stop. Seems to be a nice place, but really close to some of the 'hot spots' in the region. Would the location be of concern?

Actually it is interesting that they have on and off switches for all the wall plug outlets. We don't have those back home. I gather it does make things rather safer in general. But the annoying part is that hubby always insists on switching them off all the time if things are not in use (kind of use them if you've got them mentality) which really drives me nuts sometimes. :):)

Completely not surprised. I can only bet that as time goes by, the figures will only be revised again and again and they will only head to one direction. They are just trying to cover up as much as they can. But honestly, I don't see how the whole world is going to give up on nuclear power. The reality is that there is no real sound alternatives to replace all the existing nuclear power plants, and no other ways to supply the increasing demand everywhere. So no matter how people will debate and protest, the truth is, nuclear power is going to stay and expand.

Don't know about this particular flight, but as far as I know, you will need to go through immigration and take out all your luggages, and then go to the domestic part of the airport and check in everything again. If I were you and if the ticket prices are about the same, I would take the direct flight. The extra miles are not worth the trouble.
