In the meantime I'm looking for classes I can take my son to to keep him busy . Older son is home at the moment so the younger is kept busy as they play but my older son will be starting school soon so I want to get some weekly classes booked in for my younger DS. I love in sports city so any help would be very useful ! Thank you

Hi all I have to get my son into a nursery and am really confused about where ! We live in sports city and my older one is going to victory heights primary school. My younger DS is 3 years but has never been to nursery so I didn't want to opt to put him in school for fs1. Wonder years is out for me as its five days a week and I only want to do 2/3 max. Can anyone recommend a nice setting please -sports city, jvc or motor city probably easily commutable for me Thanks all!

Hi lovely ladies ! So I arrived in dubai two weeks ago with my two little boys (6 and 3)- DH has been here since Feb and busy with work ! The kids and I have been in holiday mode since arriving so now I need to focus on settling as a resident !! We are living in sports city (not far from Ma'siem city centre ) - as I have the two boys my main questions are : - what's the emergency number here for an ambulance ? - can I please have recommendations of a very good standard hospital which has an Accident and emergency preferably 24/7? (Have heard some negative things about Saudi German hospital )- preferably hospital not too far from sports city . - same question as above for dental please - does anyone know of a good maids agency for a full time live out maid ? - whats cheaper - al maya supermarket or choithrams JvC?(will be using Carrefour for big shops and stocking up but need somewhere for good quality meat and fresh fruit / veg) - need somewhere reasonable for waxing / threading please ! (I can commute to motor city, jvc and around sports city easily ) - do I need to store everything in the fridge (even tinned food) ? Have heard some people say that they do this in the summer months ! Sorry if some of these questions seem silly !!! Thanks all!

We are currently drowning in medical centers in and around sports city. From Cooper Clinic to Health Bay to Medicenters in Motor City and the new mall at Ma'eisem, you will have plenty of choice. Hey sheikhandbake Is there a specific one you recommend though ? I'm going to be near the al fay roundabout just opposit Ma'eisem A name of a good peadatrician would be great ? Thanks!!!

Hi all! I'm moving with my two children in two weeks from the UK to dubai! Our new home is in sports city - obviously used to having a GP five minutes away here in England ! Can you lovely ladies please recommend me a good GP/ Peadiatrican local to me ? Same for a dentist of possible ! I would prefer a British doctor but not essential - just a good Pead who is friendly and doesn't just prescribe antibiotics for anything !! Thanks ladies !

Thank you for the replies ! I will check here in the Uk about having them done privately - though i heard there are strict regulations regarding giving these early. Does anyone recommend a particular clinic / hospital in dubai to get these ? I will be living in sports city just two minutes from victory heights. Thanks

Hi, There is no waiting period for maternity anymore, even when you buy your own insurance. I got some good quotes from Pacific Prime, I was assisted by Lisa. Insurance is a safer option incase of complications. I got a good deal with Aviva insurance, which includes newborn cover too. Hi there Does this mean that by law there is no waiting on maternity at the moment? My sister has got 1 months waiting period written on her policy but she got pregnant after three months of being in Dubai and she has been going for appointments and sans and the insurance company seem to be authorising all appointments even though it hasn't been ten months If you could shed some light I would be very grateful Many thanks

Hello all I am relocating to Dubai with my husband and two kids. We are getting private medical with my husbands job but I would also like to take out an international policy as my experience with private healthcare through work has not been great! Please kindly recommend any providers that you have had good experience with - much appreciated ! I am particularly keen on including dental and vision as with two children under 6 I feel it's important ! Thanks all

Hi all I am hoping someone can help me with this. In a nutshell Husband is taking a new job in Dubai Part of the benefit is full medical insurance for him and his family I currently have bupa insurance here in the Uk. Has anyone kept their private health care in the Uk after they've moved ? Has anyone also taken out an international plan? Whilst his work related one seems decent there are some caveats like 20% contribution on all outpatient , caps on optical and dental etc. We have two children one 6 and another 2 years so for me having adequate cover is very important . Any advice is appreciated- the insurance appears to be from a company called Orient in Dubai. Thanks all!

I hate to put a downer on this, but have you budgeted for paying deposits on things. You need a fairly large amount of cash up front apart from the rental. Deposit to the landlord, agency fees if you use one to find your place, DEWA deposit, I think around 2k for a villa. I'm only mentioning this as we came out with nothing and ended up with minus nothing once we had paid out deposits. Also the little things like buying water etc all add up. Honestly Geordieexpat I would rather have the facts than go on thinking its al easy and then find out the bitter truth !! So thank you - is really helpful having all these costs. Need to put it all in a spreadsheet today I think. Talking of costs does a credit card usually help?!

DEWA costs. We have a 3 bed villa, two adults and four pets so in the summer the AC is on around 26/27 all day and night and our maximum bill was GBP386, which included the housing fee. I definitely wouldn't say it was cheaper here than in the UK. Thanks Geordie Which area are you in? How much approx is housing fee ?
