Can't believe such horrible person exists and to think she has been asking you for advice! I won't ignore her completely, rather avoid her if I can. If she calls or whatsapp me, I would just send short replies, she should get the hint.

I didn't have them so just thought they no longer do the monthly deals. I've had them on for the last two years but not this year. Do you have the number to call? The 'Contact Us' button on the website does not appear. Thanks!

It might be too late to uninvite her now. See it this way, a 'not so close friend' goes to great lengths booking flights and hotels and spending money just to be on your wedding day, for me, is an honour. When I had my wedding and most of my bridesmaids and best friends are working overseas, flew in for just the weekend, to attend my wedding day, made me feel extra special. Who knows, you might end up as really good friends.

I used to use Careem exclusively but found that 'NOW' bookings could sometimes be difficult. So now I use both Careem and Uber. Generally Uber seem to be better for 'NOW' bookings, especially in busy areas and Careem is better for bookings in advance. The Uber app is a bit of a pain to get a location in a housing estate (I have emailed them countless times to ask them to allow you to put in an address) but it is easy to text the driver your address, which I do as soon as I have booked the car and he then seems able to find you. If we are going out we usually use Careem to get there by booking in advance and the drivers do always turn up early. Then we use Uber to get back which works really well. DH also uses Uber from the airport when he's not flying Emirates as advance bookings with Careem were working out quite expensive. So far he has been able to get an Uber car to arrive in the time it takes him to walk through customs and out the door. Does it mean I have to book them in advanced or else they might not arrive? The 'later' bookings work our more costly than the 'now' bookings and as DH might still be able to come get us, I can only book them 20 minutes before. Let's see how it goes today.

Thank you all for the lovely replies. I have always booked the regular taxi and DS ends up on my lap (I'm never comfortable about this). Now that he's 1yo, he just kept moving about and if I hold him down, he cries. I might even ask DH not to pick us up today (if he can), so we can try Careem, haha!

That would be wonderful. I wish I had known Careem before. DH had a meeting in Ajman before so I called a taxi for 5pm. 2 hours and countless phone calls later, still no taxi. I couldn't walk to the nearest stop as DS was only 7 months at the time. Taxi eventually came at 7:30. <em>edited by Forty_Winks on 08/05/2014</em>

Thank you all for the response. I have registered with Careem and have downloaded the App but just would like to know if they would definitely turn up, even at 5pm and on a Thursday (as your regular RTA taxis wont!).

Really FW? You seem really keen on this idea, but I would never pay for anyone to come and collect my recycling only to turn around and resell it. I'd be more likely just to put in the garbage and let nature take its course! To be honest, I did say on the other thread that I am hesitant to pay AED100 a month for my recycling but if you have a few people, say, 4-6 doing this, it might not be too much. At least I am a bit more confident on where my recycling is going.

Is there any evidence for recycling, like actual recycling plants somewhere? yes there are. Where in Dubai, everyone mentions recycling facilities, etc but what are they called and where are they? Sorry, I'm just curious :-P I am slightly shocked some people pay to get recycled rubbish collected as the materials are actually supposed to be sold, so the company makes money off it... I was very interested but when I saw that I will be charged AED100 per month, i was hesitant. I guess making the trip to the local recycling bins is what I will continue to do.

wouldnt have said anything, would say its none of my business. i'm not saying i agree with it but i dont think its anyones place to say. I agree, I would not have said anything - it is not my business. It does not mean I agree with slapping a toddler however, we must remember we are living in a country with over 100 different nationalities, cultures, traditions, etc and it is wrong to interfere. Also, there is a BIG difference between a slap and abuse. I can imagine the the toddler was tired, bored and frustrated and the mother was tired and frustrated too. Shopping is not an activity that a toddler enjoys or can manage for any extended period, but sometimes a mother has no other choice. yes .... sometimes there is no choice. don't blame mother. if she is slapping her kid, she is feeling the same pain too. A cuddle would have made the situation better for both of them. I am sorry, but I would blame the mother. I, too am a mother. I get tired. I get frustrated. But never would slap my child in the face!

What do you mean sponsored her husband on a tourist visa? Did you mean, financially sponsored him and not the actual visa? Many people do this with their relatives and then eventually find a legit work and then the company sponsors them. Maybe she should have said something to her employer, but then again, she really didn't have to.

If you want to go out to dinner with your kids, someplace that isn't too casual but neither too fancy (if there is such a place) for say, anniversary or birthday, where would you go? Dhow and Anchor or Lattitude in Jumeirah Beach Hotel Shimmers in Mina Salam Most of the Madinat restaurants Pai Thai in Al Qasr Most of the Atlantis restaurants Thank you. Been to Shimmers but it might be too hot now especially that my friend wants to bring her little girl to dinner. Will let her know all your recommendations.

Really? Oh dear! I don't want to have a bad night! Can anyone recommend a place for us that is not too casual but can still bring small children? Yeah - my friends ordered me a birthday cake - they went in and asked them to bring it to me before desserts were served - it never came. That is horrible! DH brought me to Sapori di Bice on citywalk on my birthday and had a lovely time. We just want to go somewhere else this time. How about Jamie's Italian Kitchen at JBH? Anyone been there?

Hi Forty_Winks. We were there last weekend with our DD (almost 2 yrs) and it was fine. There's a lovely terrace out the back that looks over a pond with some fish in it, and there's a grassy area around the side where the kids can run around (assuming its not too hot) Hope you have a lovely time. :) Thank you so much for your feedback. I saw online how lovely the place looks and I am now looking forward to it. I asked one of my friends about the place and as she has never been, was thinking of this place for their anniversary dinner. She wants to know if the place is not too casual for that. I told her that I will let her know.

It irritates me tht he does nothing at all, he hates his job, complains abt it all day and doesn't wanna go to work. Pressures me to get a job. Never ever help around the house. So lazy sleeps at 8 and wakes up late. Making fun of my weight and I'm 53 kilos and I gained weight becos I had a child. Wants to eat all the time and hates my cooking so orders junk most of the time. Spends all his money and on weekends all he does is play games or watch movies on his laptop with headphones on. The thing I hate the most is Tht he has no plan for anything future, job, money..anything!! And no ambition wht so ever so I really think I can no longer depend on him for our future which is so depressing. I cud go on forever .. Wow, this is beyond irritating...

I have crappy insurance, but I took my kids to Dr Roze at The Childrens Medical Centre for their proper dental visit. She was amazing with my two squeamish boys, she even had them sit side by side together on the dental chair, handed them a stuffed dragon with dentures and showed them how she would count their teeth, examine with mirror before she did same on their actual mouths, all the while making very calming noises and reminding the boys to brush their teeth after all meals, esp sweet foods. My kids didn't like the overhead tv screen so she asked assistant to shut it off. After all that, I was fine paying completely out of pocket. Thanks Apricot. Will check. I have called Nicolas&Asp and for consultation and assessment is AED300. Will check with Dr Roze as she is very popular here at EW.

The Nicolas & Asp branch at Al Manzil downtown apparently has an amazing paediatric dentist. That's good to hear as I was having a wander about Al Manzil about 2 weeks ago and saw their branch there. I should have went inside and enquired! Will give them a call. Thank you!

I would suggest the younger the better. Perhaps if you take him when you see the dentist and he sees that nothing nasty is going to happen he will probably be ok. A lot also depends on the dentist. You definitely need one who is good with kids. I did this with my two back in the UK and they were and still are fine. Thanks! Spoke with someone from Nicolas and Asp and she did say from 1 year. As I've said, DS does not have dental insurance so hopefully it doesn't cost too much for a consultation.

My boys go to the lady at Dr.Joy Dental clinic (near J3 mall umm suqeim) She's lovely and has a mini TV screen attached to the chair if you have young ones that don't find it easy to sit still! Oh wow! DS had his first haircut at Favourite Things and had the same thing. However, he was only distracted for a few minutes then started fussing again. What more if someone starts touching face and mouth! Oh dear! Is 1 yr an appropriate age to see the dentist or is he too young?

DS just turned one and already has 12 teeth. I think it's time to see a dentist but not really sure where to go. He's very fussy and I don't think he will ever sit still so that would be a whole lot of fun. We don't have insurance so any idea on the cost for consultation? Thanks as always!

Thank you for your replies. We actually went to Sapori di Bice in Citywalk last night and I really am looking forward to going back on Friday to try breakfast. It was quiet when we went with only another family dining inside and a few tables taken outside. I absolutely adore the open space Citywalk has and would be very nice for a family day out.

For a very easy and basic pirate costume - black shorts or trousers, white t/shirt, red sash around waist, red bandana. He's a bit young for an eye patch or cutlass. edited by amelia on 08/03/2014 That's a wonderful idea amelia. Thanks! I just hope I can keep a bandana on him as he hates anything on his head!

I'm all for such an event, just annoyed they should have informed us sooner so we could plan! DD's nursery just e-mailed now that they are closed tomorrow and now I have to scramble and figure out what to do, since DH and I both have work. If they had told us a week ago, could have planned better, thats all :\ Hi sourskittleashnut. I wonder if my DS nursery is closed too. Have not received anything.
