Hi. A lot depends when you want to go and whether you want the seaside.Between now and September the east coast has the better weather . Highly recommend Jungle Beach Resort <www.ugaescapes.com/jungle beach> not far from Trincomalee. The journey from Colombo is a bit of a pain but well worth it. If later than September the monsoon is clearing the west coast and there's any number of good resorts ( search around Galle). Have a great time!

DD has been using them for the last 3 years cos they serve the smaller airports and connect at Istanbul which she thinks is infinitely preferable to Heathrow. She's not had any problems and pretty much thinks the same as mumcurious.Prices are good too.

After months of indecision we've bought a house in Al Hamra. It's in good order but a bit tired so needs a facelift (the house, that is). I'm going to need a good plasterer -not one who's done a half day course at the local school of bodgework. Time is not critical - we plan to renovate over the winter to be able to enjoy RAK in the spring. Do any of you ladies in the Northern Emirates have any suggestions? Many thanks, Gabi

Shop N' Ship gives more overseas mailboxes nowadays than the original UK/US. Indeed (for TaxiTaxi )there is a Shanghai mailbox for things you buy from China ( have to be careful, though, that the paperwork with the item is 100% correct - they seem to be quite picky about it).

Hi There's several of them. Solutions on 02 641 9227 seem OK. Can also depend on where you live - some agencies charge extra for travelling off Abu Dhabi Island. Good luck.....

I forgot to mention Contrary to what some travel guides say there are ATMs everywhere and most take international cards. Travellers cheques don't seem to be widely accepted though we didn't try. Gabi

Hi We were there earlier this month...had a great time and def going back Don't forget that most nationalities can do an online application for the electronic visa ( costs around USD30 per person) which avoids the queue at the airport visa office. Armed with the electronic visa receipt you will be through immigration in quick time. Surface transport in SriLanka is still fairly slow except for the highway to Galle ( work is supposed to start next year to extend that to Hambantota). There's the new airport at Mattala in the south of the country which - depending on your plans - can make life A LOT simpler then trekking from and to Colombo International Airport. Mattala is served by Sri Lankan,Fly Dubai and ( from Abu Dhabi) Rotana Jet. Have fun!! Gabi

Hi...I was through Terminal 1 at Abu D two weeks ago...the Al Reem Lounge was closed for what looked like heavy renovations and a sign on the door said you could use the Abu Dhabi Lounge on the 2nd Floor. It's OK but I guess will get really busy at peak times. Walking for T3 to T1 is perfectly do- able but do check which gate your flight departs from. Although T3 is Etihad many of their flights actually depart from Terminal 1 boarding gates. So you might be lucky and save yourself a return walk..have a safe flight... Gabi

Hello Ladies The UK phone number given for Passport Enquiries is actually contracted to an outfit called Teleperformance - they have a call centre in Durham. Apart from following a prepared script you will be lucky to make much progress...... Liverpool Passport Office +44 151 601 5403 Newport Passport Office 0845 471 6267 ( not sure if this can be accessed from overseas by making it +44 845) Good Luck!!!

Hi - we've done this several times whilst living in Brussels. Cycle tours are really well organised in Holland so have no fear on that. We started with a trip to Texel - little island north of Amsterdam ( you get the ferry from Den Helder - doesn't take long). You can get bike rental on arrival and going round the island is an easy days' ride. There's a cafe, bar, restaurant and bike repairer everywhere. It's more or less completely flat too so not a bad place to start cycling tours. After that we did the Maasland ( in the far south of Holland) which is a much larger area and has hills! In an easy days ride you can easily cross into Germany and Belgium ( there's no border controls) and there's loads to see and do for most age groups. If you need any specific info let me know ( but soon - we're UAE bound shortly!)

Hello Ladies - I've been a long time watcher but now the day is looming when I'll be relocating the hunt is on for the best idea for living. I've been looking at the UAQ marina development and the RAK Al Hamra and Al Mina sites. It's difficult to get an accurate picture - an awful lot of stuff on the net goes back to to days people were buying from overseas off plan and having nasty shocks later. Here's my impression...UAQ - nearer to Dubai. Emaar. price/build quality OK but are there still environmental problems? RAK - Al MIna seems to have nice houses but service, water and electricity charges seem high. Al Hamra - older, larger development seems the most popular. DH will have a housing allowance of 170K so we're thinking to buy something and use that to pay off a mortgage. Would really appreciate any thoughts from you ladies living in these places. Thanks a lot....Gabi
