We will travel in May to visits my family in law. All it all i would say its safe as long as you are in a group and not on your own (without guide). In general Giza is not my preferred place to stay in Cairo as there are a lot of night clubs and strange persons around, in the 5 Star Hotels around the pyramids you will be ok. Personally i wouldn't travel to Sharm el Sheikh as the moment, specially after 2 tourist got kidnapped from Bedouins within 6 months. After sunset tourist buses aren't allowed to travel between the towns (Taba/Dahab/Sharm) - secruity reasons. Instead i would go to El Gouna or Luxor. I used to live in Cairo, speak Arabic and love Cairo but at the moment Egypt wouldn't be my preference.

In my previous company (non-freezone) is was normal that you had to pay for your spouse/children visa. Even the PRO weren't allowed to make the paperwork for you.

We have been with the previous offer to the Beach Brunch + Beach Day Use + free entry to the Beach Party. Actually we spend a nice day as we group as the only nice thing there was the Beach. Brunch was ok for the money we paid but the appetizer/dessert buffet (including mussels, smoked fish, salads, etc.) was the whole time in the direct sun without any cooling system. Grilling station was ok if you are fine with eating everything well done or burned. Sushi was in a kind of cooling system but facing the sun, so the Sushi was warm. Service was excellent but the Manager of the place is terrible. I have ask to get some Arabic bread as there was none. The waiter advice there is baguette and so much other bread i can’t have Arabic bread. After i replied that its quiet strange that we are living in a Arabic country and there is no Arabic Bread available he brought some. At the beach we got approached by 2 Russian old ladies which wanted to have exactly our sun lounger, even when there were loads of other available. Beach Party was horrible and the only entertainment were one Russian drunk couple which were jumping like monkeys in front of the DJ. The famous DJ Sabrina didn't show up as she came from abroad. Later we figure out that she is a resident DJ anywhere in Dubai.

yes - you will need an Arabic NOC of your husband, it doesn't matter if you are both non-arabic speaker or not. In our company we made certain Arabic documents (like NOC's) for non-arabic speakers to make it easier for them.

I'm German Citizen and since some years here and the situation is very simple. As soon as you have a resident sticker in your passport (doesn't matter if you are still registered or unregistered in Germany) you must get the local driving license in UAE. Yes it’s true that you can't rent a car if you have a new local DL but if you show them our German DL then it’s usually no problem for the most of the rental companies here. What do you mean with "to be on the safe side in Germany" ??? In Germany you will be still able to drive with your German DL. edited by Gege_DXB on 01/04/2013

r u KIDDING me?? i live in an independant villa - and if any of my neighbours do that (any time after 10pm) - even on the weekend - i am straight on the phone to dubai police. it is inconsiderate, unncesssary and down right selfish. the police are very quick in responding. i would not hesitate to call. edited by rhubarb on 21/03/2013 Actually we are doing the same. Valentinesday our neighbours had a karaoke party at 9 pm. We weren't able to talk on phone or watching TV because of the noise, so we tried to solve the problem with her face to face and she insulted us. Secruity solved the problem in the end.

We simply send him the link of the rent calculator, which showed that he is not allowed to increase the rent and if he wish to increase we will meet each other at the rent committee.

Always good to hear people's good experience not bad! Maroosh where is this 55aed pedi? I have not seen my feet in months! I think they need a spruce up lol! Mary Salon in JLT. One lake Plaza is the building, it's downstairs at the lake. Ask for Fiona, she scrubs like there's no tomorrow:) And she did a good manicure as well. I used to go there for 4-6 months in 2011 and i have a serious problem with the hygiene in the salon. When I went for waxing i found regular hair on the ground, the food bath never got cleaned, only the water gets changed, same with the equipment for pedicure and manicure. I spoke with owner and she didn't really care, so i stop going there.

Hubby just called to say that the "Loop Road" is all but shut off. Cars driving wrong way down one way system in order to get out of JLT. He had to detour right up to Al Barsha/Greens, so it may be wise to leave extra time for your journey this morning. Hope everyone got out safely. Happening far too often lately, it would seem. Yes i can confirm that, even school busses are going the wrong way to exit JLT. edited by Gege_DXB on 18/11/2012

The handle of our balcony door was broken and the maintenance guy broke the looker while exchanging the handle. There was a bad smell in the basement over 1-2 weeks, we got informed the sewerage tank needs to be cleaned. Nobody did that over the last 2 years !!! In our guest bathroom is a strong sewerage smell. The maintenance guy advised that its in all flats so no need to worry. (Great *ggrrrr*) Since may we have mold outside the corridor and Gerald informed our landlord soon it will be painted as there is no money to for a proper solution for the problem. Traffic is still bad when you want to leave/come home while peak hours. edited by Gege_DXB on 14/11/2012

I live in Cairo for a while and at the moment i would avoid to travel to Cairo, Alexandria or at the Sinai. Nightlife in the big city is suffering from the new regulation that all supermarkets, shops, cafes etc needs to close by 10 pm because of the electricity shortage. A lovely place for vacation is El Gouna, which has a own small airport and is located near to Hurghada. In december it might be a little bit cold for a beach vacation but sight seeing in Luxor and Aswan will be perfect.

The traffic in JLT has improved dramatically in the last week or so, they have opened a new section of road which means there are hardly any queues anymore. I would definitely look over here if I were you with that budget and needing a metro near by. There's a nice walk all around the lake and plenty of little parks. edited by batgirls gal on 02/11/2012 We live in the cluster near to the Dubai Marina Metro Station and the traffic is still bad while rush hours. I agree it got better because of the new exit to SZR but it still depends on the cluster you are in. If you are considering JLT, dont forget to calculate the Palm Cooling Charges on top of your rent.
