Anytime I have driven past on the way to Al Ain I can see the way in but it seems like to come back you have to head towards Al Ain for quite a way before you can u-turn and come back. Is that correct or is there another back road out that is not visible from the highway? It's 4.5 kms towards Al Ain to get back again, so 9kms out of the way. It's not too bad if you're expecting it. They used to have a little 'illegal' underpass that was NARROW and fun but it's blocked off now. You are right - it is only 9km so I should just do it - especially if the illegal U turn is once again open as per emejotas post - thanks both of you

i only know one way:) and it is long the way down the road, get on the overpass bridge and down back to Dubai direction... Thanks - that is what I suspected - which has put me of going there before now. Must try and stop there the next time I go to Al Ain as at least I will be heading in the same direction - although I never manage to because I am always late and in a tearing hurry when I go there.

I think Botox parties are a terrible idea! It's a serious procedure (albeit temporary), it's not like buying knickers or tupperware! quote'> [color=#000000'>From what I understand the party bit is a talk from the Doctor answering questions and food some prizes etc - the treatment is completely seperate consultation and not done as a group thing![/color'> edited by Genie on 20/01/2011

Would someone like to spend a day in the car with me?? My language is so colorful.........highly developed as Cyclone put it - as well as very creative!!! If my car had ears it would have shut down a long time ago!!! Me too! I develop acute Tourettes syndrome when I get behind the wheel of a car here and usually manage to make up at least one new swear word each time by stringing a whole load of them together. Bit more careful when I am out in public though

I have heard a lot of good things about Dr Hoshy at the Dental Spa, I know 3 people who have had botox there and they look good - very natural looking. I have also seen posters on here recommend him. I received an email to say they are having a botox party on Saturday evening which has a special offer. Perhaps you could ring the clinic to find out more.

I find them way too loud even for my old ears not sure how a baby would cope with that noise .. wonder if that is why they cry when they are there? although I am sure someone will come on and say that their baby sleeps like a top right through.. ;)

I love Arnotts Timtam biscuits. Sadly I can't find any at the moment. None in Spinney, Carrefour or Choithrams :( Might have to change my username as I'll become sad everytime I sign in because I can't have Timtam! They had dark and caramel at Ibn Battuta a few weeks back. They better get some in for the 26th because it is just not Australia Day without one for morning tea. I used to work near the Arnotts biscuit factory on Paramtta road in Camperdown, Sydney. Every day we would get an overwhelming smell of biscuits when they were baking. Pleasant at first and then after two years totally nauseating . They used to send us over free packets every day - after 6 months I could not eat any more of them... Have seen them though in C4 .. both Tim Tams and other varieties.. takes me straight back to working in Sydney every time I see them Genie because here it is the most common mispronunciation of my real name edited by Genie on 19/01/2011

good point, although it was my fault as it's a typo! I meant she. ooo sounds interesting, who's looking at setting this up do you know? LOL - I thought it was a brave man who would try to train as a midwife here. It was the dept of health in Dubai - not sure how far along it is though as the person who pushed for this has now left. If you google it you should find some press articles about it - there have been quite a few.

well watchman just screamed at me and pushed me out the way..... called building manager and he will speak to him today - also told him that i want him out of this building as he is MEANT to be the watchman and keep us safe NOT scream at me and push me..... Will keep you posted but am spitting feathers...... Am so temped to report him to the police....... You are paying good rent to live there and he is paid to protect you and the other tenants in the building. God help any watchman that laid his hands on me. I would put it in writing to the manager and say I expect action to be taken and want him to get back to me with what that action was and that I will take further action if I am not satisfied with the outcome. I would not be fobbed off someone saying they will talk to him later today. Whats wrong with talking to him right now?

It is so odd - I have always lived in apartments and have lived in 3 different countries and in diffrent parts of the emirates but Dubai is the only place I have ever heard this sound - that is why I was so convinced it was my neighbours.. But the furniture scraping sound used to terrify me when I was a teen / young adult. Used to hear it coming from the kitchen where I lived late at night when I knew that no-one else was there. Just used to put my head under the covers and hoped it would go away!

OOOHH feel so guilty now.. I sent the watchman up to my neighbours at 1am as I was so sick of being woken by the marbles!! They had always been noisy - assembling furniture late at night when they moved in, clicky clacky heels every morning and evening that I was convinced it was just another noisy irritation from them.. So it seems I sent the watchman up to them for the one thing they were not guilty of! edited by Genie on 19/01/2011

OMG we used to have the exact same thing too. What is that all about? . So did I! Convinced that my upstairs neighbours were rolling a ball bearing or similar across the floor all night. Got the watchman to go up to them one night even but it was not them - never worked out what it was but it used to wake me up regularly for months. If it's happening in many apartmnet blocks must be something to do with the buildings here... wonder what... rolllerskating rats anyone? (had rats in the roof of somewhere I lived here once, I used to think it was birds on the roof then one day I realised ... birds don't run that fast ) :(

Just send them a text saying you have passed their number on to the Iranian embassy in Dubai.. that should put a stop to it. ETA to say send not sent! edited by Genie on 17/01/2011 Wicked mind Genie. I like that ;) I agree with texting the Iranian Embassy and the local authorities. I always do this with nuisance calls or texts .. I change the authority depending on where it is from.. I usually text them to say I have reported the number to the police or whoever .. works like a charm ;) PS with soem of those from Nigeria, Pakistan etc I even say I have reported them to Interpol! edited by Genie on 17/01/2011

What pharmacies take unused or expired medicines? I have been laughed at when trying to give bags of expired medicines to a pharmacy for safe disposal. I think it is a case of finding one with a proper pharmacist who knows the risks - a lot here are just dispensers which here is more or less like any other shop assistant and obviously unaware of the risks .. if all else fails I would take to the nearest clinic / hospital pharmacy.

may be there should be a recycling box for it next to clothes and papers/plastic... there surely is not enough awareness about this in the UAE...I for one have always binned the expired and passed on the unused ones to the neares pharmacy...wonder if hospitals should have info and boxes for the same !!! 0_o anyone knows how to start a campaign? I don't but I would add it to the list of all the other things I think the public need educating about here - it's a long list ;)

so the 'water' people are flushing away UK comes back to us as drinking water? Totally, totally vile. And what chemically has to be done to the 'water' to make it safe. Sheesh. Yes I also remember hearing that tap water we drink has been through at least a few other people!!! Not sure if that bit is urban myth or reality but enough to put me off tap water when I am in places like London!

Particularly here where people cannot afford them .. I worked in hospitals here and believe me there are people who want "old medicines" and it is not uncommon to come across people who are taking someone else's medication .. usually a relative who does not use it anymore. I was often asked for medicine by the taxi drivers who picked me up from work or some of the poorer people in the area where I lived who knew I worked at a hospital for "any medicines sister". And I have seen at hospitals I worked at in the UK, Australia and here, children brought in after ingesting medication that they found - either in or outside the home - sometimes with tragic results. I read a report somewhere a few years ago that Prozac was detectable in minute quantities in some water supplies from the amounts being flushed away !! - I can't remember if it was in the UK or US but I think it was the UK

Haha I have to make myself write km instead of miles, so I don't know if there is another word for mileage here! The 4000km cap is per month for the entire rental, and we will be renting for at least another year since we don't want the burdens of buying a car here. Does that answer your question? Check again with Hertz about the cap. They started adding them recently and put one on our car at United Car Rental (don't get me started) without notifying us of the change. My husband works in Khalifa City so we definitly hit the cap but it's still cheaper than what we were paying. Many thanks georgiagirl yes it does answer my question - I was thinking it was not much for a year! I am also going to lease again and am looking around for a better option than Hertz - I leased from them for the last 2 years and frankly the service was not that great and if they have now introduced a cap as well they are definitely off my list.

georgiagirl - can I ask how long that 4000 km mileage cap is for? Is it for 1 month, 6 month a year ? I rented with Hertz - this is cheaper but I do not think there was a mileage cap with Hertz. BTW just realised how strange it is to talk about the mileage of kilometeres although I know it is correct it feels like there should be another word for it!

I know of 3 bedroom villas plus maids room and shared pool that are 110K in Al Badda, that is just off Al Wasl Road in the Jumeriah 1 area. They are rented through Al Kawakab prperty management 04 3434141. I rent fromthis company - though not those villas - and they are very good LL's.

The responsible thing to do is to return to a pharmacy for proper disposal. Throwing in a bin or flushing down the loo is not appropriate. It has been known for people to get hold of thrown away meds and flushed away drugs can get into the public water system. Snap!

if expired then bin it...that's what i did this morning...it's no use to anyone It is generally considered not safe to do this; some medications actually deteriorate in a way that makes them more toxic and any medication is dangerous if you do not need it. Throwing them in domestic waste runs the risk of someone else seeing them taking them... mostly children but in this country possibly someone poor and ignorant. It is always safest to take to a pharmacy for disposal.

I think that the BEFORE picture is photo shopped.. lets face it what woman with a body that had that much fat and cellulite would go out in public in a two piece? and then jump up and down with a skipping rope to get it all wobbling for everyone to see? I am overweight and would not even walk around my own house like that if someone else was there! and then there is the fact that the paprazzi just happened to be hanging around this C list celebrity to record the moment. Call me cynical but what better way to get back in the public attention then to have a sensational before and after DVD to promote along with all the interviews in mags and on TV etc? I also seriously doubt that you could shift that much cellulite so relativley quickly and end up with super smooth skin - and apart from the morbidly obese have never seen so much cellulite all over either.... have definitely got my cynical hat on with this one. I think you might be right.... and it's weird how that's the only picture of her looking like that. [b'>She only looks about a size 16 in that before picture....and there's wayyyyy too much cellulite going on there to be normal[/b'>. Exactly!! ETA - and if she found a way to completely eradicate all that cellulite in 6 months without a trace left the world would be beating a path to her door - or at least to her DVD ;) edited by Genie on 12/01/2011
