If you are managed by Taziz, then it is on P level Rimal 5 I think it is. Facing JBR Read N enjoy Library there and the resaurants. If not try Salwan G level below Tips and Toes in Amwaj.

We had an older house maid for 18 months. She did not tell us on hiring that she had health issues. Only found out after we had done her visa that she had high blood pressure and was starting to go blind. Older maids are great in some aspects but when it comes to health issues as you get older be careful. I ended up taking her to the dr's many times ( she still did not listen to his advice however) and paying for her monthly medication etc... can get expensive too.

As an ex-tour guide from Adelaide I would ask you how long in Adelaide? and why did you chose those two places? You have friends there? Adelaide has a great zoo ( same person who re-developed Al Ain Zoo did Adelaide Zoo ) and you have the added bonus of the Pandas. Adelaide has fantastic beaches, with the Glenelg foreshore which has shops and restaurants etc and you can drive down further south to some amazing beaches. There are two winery districts, Barossa Valley with its German Heritage is gorgeous and some of the best wineries such as Hardy's, Lindeman's etc...If you have time you could stay in a B& B, gorgeous old cottages. The other wine region is McLaren Vale, smaller but set at the foot of the rolling Adelaide Hills. SA has some great food. There is also a small China Town and a very special market to see in the centre of the city. The gourmet stuff you can buy from there is to-die for. China town backs on to this and Yum Cha on the weekends is delicious! Check what days the market is open ( been too long for me ). If you have long enough I would go to Kangaroo Island. I would used to take my tourists there three times a week. It is like no-where else and largely untouched. A massive island that if you don't have much time can do a day trip. Sealink is the company and they can pick you up by bus from the city and take you to the boat and there for the day. Its a long day so if you have more time I would recommend even an over night stay. Your teenager will love it! The tour will take you to sand dunes ( different than UAE), surrounded by vegetation. See the Australian Fur Seals, Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch, wild koalas and kangaroos, a ligurian Honey farm. If you stay over night you can see the Fairy Penguins you go looking for in their natural environment. The tour should also take you to an Eculyptus Distillery which is over 180 years old. Believe me when i say this is one place you wont forget in a hurry. Have attached the Sealink link for you. http://www.sealink.com.au/ The other great place to visit for animals and the kids is Cleland Wildlife Park, you can hold a Koala and see all the native Australian Wildlife. I could keep raving on but if you have any questions would be happy to answer them. Enjoy!!!

I have been going there for nearly a yea and a half, have had no problems with my colour and I get it dyed red. I think the guys there are great and Lebanese men I hear from many sources make the best hair stylists. I think they are more reasonable in price then a lot of other places I have been too and yes I'm normally very fussy. Having said this my two favorite stylists from here left about 2 months ago leaving me stunned have been back to someone new there since and still liked what he did. can I ask OP is your hair in good condition? It's not easy to always get the exact colour you want. I know sometimes I go in there thinking im going to come out with hair the colour of x... But it always ends up of course not what I imagined, but that's always due to me.

My sister moved back to Qld from Abu Dhabi in December and used Allied Pickfords. Appalling before service from Crown who she had intended on going with and ended up using Allied and everything was fine, quicker than expected and not a single thing broken. She was in touch with them the whole way and they kept her up-to-date on where the ship was etc ... I think it can just depend on who are the packers, I was there and saw her stuff being packed and they did an excellent job. Were cheaper than crown too. I had friends who left in December for Sydney using Crown and were misquoted the oprice with Crown as well as the space for their stuff and on the moving days Crown came to them and said actually your stuff does not fit in the container we have for you and you know need to have part of another one at 10,000 plus more dirhams and you can imagine how angry they were. I'm sure everyone has horror stories from many movers but these are just recent examples that may help you to decide.

My three DD have a set routine for bed each night ( except on weekends) and if they sway from it they are shocking in the morning. My DD 5 yr old, in bed by 7pm, nearly 8yr old DD in bed by 7:30pm and my nearly 10 yr old DD in bed at 8pm. Works well and I get my sanity time!!! After being here for 4 years they have become accustomed to hearing and seeing other kids outside playing until late and don't ask whey they can't play any more like they used to.

Thanks for this thread. Have family coming and was thinking of taking them on one of these, so this is very timely. Can I ask - would they fit 6 people in one car? Would be 4 adults, 2 kids (and one child is still in a booster seat). I have been on Arabian Adventures 3 times and all were a fun experience and our visitors all from different backgrounds really enjoyed it. There were a lot of cars last time but it did not detract from the experience. I would never try to squeeze 6 in the car, my only advice would be that please please put all passengers in a car seat, especially the children and if possible a booster seat. Friends have been once before and a car rolled in front of them, there are so many near misses by cars following too closely to each other while dune bashing and last time there were so many other four wheel dirves that did not even belong to our group crossing all over. If you value lives you will all wear seat belts!

There was a bit of confusion as I received a text telling me to go to Rashidiya, but it turns out you can just go to any ID place without an appointment as long as you have the form. I don't think you can just go anywhere without an appointment and I would be very unwise just showing up without one especially at Al Barsha, we did ours for the second time around 6 weeks ago and made an appointment which you automatically get. ( We had just done my maid s a few weeks before that too and the process was the same each time). If you don't want to go to the Rashidiya one you have been allotted you should call up speak to someone and then they can change to Al Barsha. They only have certain times, and you chose which date, time etc from the choice they give you. Even with an appointment on the day to do my fingerprints it took 2 hours of sitting and waiting whilst a few local's decided they did not want to wait in the que so kept pushing in. I was not the only one waiting, we just had to sit and wait no choice. After that the usual process of having it sent to the PO Box and only took around a week this time before it was posted to us. Be prepared for the usual frustration though.

GirlAnachronism... please tell me the steps that you did to get this ID card sorted. I have read so many different stories about what to 1st and where to go, blah, blah... could you give me the facts. much appreciated :-) I went to the typing centre in Al Barsha (it should have the location on the site), paid the fee for my 2 year's ID card, gave them my passport (yesterday). Today at 12pm I went back and collected my passport and the typed form, went to the ID place in Barsha (the one between Civil Defense and the petrol station on the road leading to/from TECOM). They did all my handprints and took a photo. There was a bit of confusion as I received a text telling me to go to Rashidiya, but it turns out you can just go to any ID place without an appointment as long as you have the form. Card should be delivered in a month or so Thanks so much.. very helpful :)

Glad your enjoying JBR. Make sure all your baking goods etc, cereal's are all in air-tight sealed containers as not just JBR but everywhere you get these little brown bugs. I think I would try getting rid of them before calling in the Idama Pesticide people, we have never had an issue with cockroaches in our Sham's , JBR apartment.

Trying to book last Tuesday using my cc for my mother-in-law coming this week from sing, could not do so on-line as Emirates does not allow this for some countries, was told to go to Emirates, SZRd and I rushed down there, booked with no problem for her (she is 75 ) too and will get stressed if not all organized. Was not charged extra and even managed to get a better flight at same price shown on-line, get good seat and special meal requirements, all done! Doesn't always pay to book on line these days. Maybe Emirates have changed their policy about using someone else's cc as I'm sure in the past I have booked for her before????

Thanks all for the advice. But is there anything else i could do for the kiddies that small besides magic show (its a common thing in everyone's bday party. Suggestions on this one tooo Why do you feel the need to compete? So what if a magician is common it's what kids like, but I don't think a magician is even necessary for a one year olds birthday. Something simple like a picnic in Sara park would be the best.

Plum Tree...we live in Shams next to Amwaj and have for nearly 4 years, I have 3 children and we love it, when our lease is up in April we must move from Shams ( out of our hands) but will probably go to Rimal. Amawaj are one of the better maintained as owned by the Sheik and one even has its own gym. As for the traffic, compared to all the rest, Shams, and Amwaj have it way better. In and out so much easier. Im sure you will enjoy it as we do! Lock up and go away, don't have to worry about a thing....and don;t get me started on the convenience of the supermarkets, Choitrams, Almaya, dry cleaners and pharmacy.....what more could you want??? We hope you will be happy like we have been.

They have been at the same stage of construction for over a year...some minor work was being done last year but then all the equiptment was removed and nothing has happened for months. Some of the foundations were back filled in November so doubt they will ever be finished. I think you are thinking about the wrong ones as these ones look like they are nearly finished and everytime I drive past there are workers working on them, lawn and palm trees all in and looks like it could be the next few months maybe??

I thought it was a great concert, to sing for so long like Chris Martin did would not be easy, nice guy who kept thanking the people of the UAE. I can't believe the number of parents who took their kids though. I'm talking about children aged 2-4 in prams falling asleep or crying. Is the concert really that important that they cant miss one New Years out and about? It took us 2 hours just to get out of the designated car park and get back onto the Corniche to even start to make the way back to Dubai. We had a great night though and would do it again.

yes there aresome good things in the Debenhams Sale but beware, I was at Ibn today when the doors opened at 10am, found a nice pair of Dorothy Perkins Shoes original price 130 marked down to 65 dhms. Get to the counter and they say oh sorry its marked incorrectly and should be 85 dirhams. I said that I wanted to speak to a Manager as they should honor what was marked as its false advertising otherwise. All the other shoes were 65 too. Of course no, they would not budge and no manager was available. Just be aware you may get a surprise if you go to pay!

They are called the 3M Command Picture hanging strips, absolutely the best at around 10dirhams for a pack which could hang 3 -4 pictures depending on weight. These are worth their weight in gold. Wish I had known about them along time ago. I originally got them from Geant but were out of stock last time I went so picked them up from ACE on Sheik Zayed Road.

We went to Al Hadheera last week on Friday night for dinner. Of course more expensive for the weekend but we had a great night. We took two older visitors from Australia who really enjoyed it. My 3 children had a ball too. The buffet had a lot to chose from, the whole atmosphere was great, the show was enjoyable and the Emirati camel and horse performance was really nice too. The kids had the kids club to entertain them along with the horse and camel rides included. The Flacon was there and the small souk but you had to pay for Henna of course. The museum displaying Emirati culture is nice for visitors too. Its pricey but with the food and entertainment included a great night out. We got to see Sheik Mohammed too as he loves the place apparently. Take a jacket as its chilly at night but you are protected and you can drive right up to the entrance in your car, just follow the sign so you don't have to walk all the way. For National Day they are having a full Emirati show with traditional dancing etc...

yes it has, it seems to have a reasonable choice of books too but I find it expensive hence did not join up. I was disappointed seeing as I live in JBR and I and my children would have used it but find it expensive and you were only allowed to borrow a limited amount of books and then had to pay for any extra. Hats off to Tattoo for the thought but you just need to change a few things and I'm sure you will get a lot more patronage. For the time being I will continue to buy or use the Library at MOE.

Pollution of our environment causing global warming, ozone holes, you name it? Most countries temperatures have increased by several degrees since 1945. I am sure this is an extreme case but I remember reading this a while ago so just dug it out as it seems relevant here.... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1348235/Tyler-Attrill-12-risk-rickets-mother-used-factor-50-suncream.html i never knew sunscreen interfered with vitamin D, thanks for posting that... so basically it's a choice between ricketts and skin cancer then... No, I disagree. We lived in Miami as children, out in the sun every day - no sunscreen. My husband is from Australia, a surfer and an athlete - no sunscreen either. I think the whole skin cancer scare is a bit overblown, probably by the sunscreen industry. People who are genetically at higher risk of sun cancer, people who use tanning bed and people who tan religiously are at risk. The rest of us should have nothing to fear - after all, people all around the world in the hottest countries are outside all day (indians, anyone?) and aren't dropping en masse from skin cancer. Totally agree with you guinness. The question I always ask the skin cancer zealots is this............given that huge swathes of the population of the UK were dumped into the deserts of North Africa during the war.........many of whom had never been out the the smog of Glasgow/Manchester etc.........and had ZERO protection.......and became seriously sun blackened........and yet, no epidemic of skin cancer post 1945. Yes, skin cancers do exist.......and I use the plural advisedly, because there is a distinct difference between the types...Melanoma appears to have a genetic rather than environmental link and the more minor cancers may well be due to sun exposure......but, as I said, minor, if cosmetically unpleasant, even distressing, but non life threatening. However.............that wouldn't make money for the pharmaceutical industry, which continues to get rich on the fears of the worried well. edited by Livelytrish on 25/10/2011

I'm sorry I just don't believe some of the comments on here? Guinness, has your husband had his skin checked by a skin specialist recently? I would advise him too. Being an athlete and a surfer from Australia he would be well aware of the skin cancer problems that are sweeping the country. I'm sorry what a load of baloney. I have had my mother ( at the age of 40),my father, my uncle, my mothers best friend's husband and my good friend all with skins cancers. My best friend is only 39 years old and just had a 5 cm cancer removed from her chest the bit where the shirt does not cover below the throat. My mother's best friend's husband has very olive skin and dark hair and had his cancer on his back. My father had his on the sole of his foot!!!! I think that anyone who does not go out without putting sunscreen on is an idiot!!! Whether your skin is dark, light whatever. My children are mixed Indian and Caucasian background and have way darker skin then me and yet they still burn. I will always put sunscreen on them when I go out. My husband with his dark skin will always wear a hat too if out for extended periods. I'm just waiting for the mass skin cancer epidemic to hit Europe and the UK. To say that its the sun screen companies blowing it out of proportion???? I know I will be leaving the house tomorrow with my sunscreen on.
