You can also do it at any Al Ansari exchange. No need to call ahead- you just need to have a photo ID. I think they had a fee but can't remember what it was. Pretty sure it was reasonable. edited by Gentle on 23/02/2014

Sounds lovely. What time of year will you be going? I'd consider spending 3 nights at Kandy (or Nuwara Eliya if you prefer a more peaceful location). I think they are too close to split into 2 stays (less than 2 hours btwn them and same distance from both to Wadduwa). I would just do a day visit instead of all the packing and checking in/out of hotels.

I really feel for you OP. I know it is a tough decision- not least because she is pregnant. However, I totally agree with DesertRose- send her home. She has carelessly & blatantly broken your agreement and lied about it. She could have at least told you they were trying so you'd be prepared. I think you are a very understanding person, but this is one of those times you need to be tough not kind. Start looking for a maid, but meanwhile send her home. Don't wait. My answer would be very different if this was an unplanned pregnancy, but it wasn't.

the employer deported her and refused to give her salary which she was deducting 200dhs every month that she was saving for her. That is awful and just plain wrong...

Besides the fact that she can choose to either continue or leave, should she stay- she is entitled to travel back to her country for (1-2) months every couple of years. Tickets to be paid for by the employer.

Look at 1762/ Appetite's Canape menu. They have cute little sandwiches and lovely mini scones. Prices are by the dozen per item but they can be flexible. This should allow you to build a yummy tea menu. edited by Gentle on 16/02/2014

If for business, I'd go with Sweet Lady or My Fine lady as they are done more professionally. There is one in Emirates Towers. The plain ones are reasonably priced. You could also go to Abu Hail..

When I first started cooking it really helped to have the "right" ingredients. If you can go ingredient shopping with a friend then try a recipe that she has nailed down, that would be great. Stick to recipes with short prep/cook time. I would also consider doing a week of Cook-a-Box http://cookabox.com/ I haven't tried it, but have heard good things. The fact that everything is right there with clear directions may just be what you need. Good luck!

Used it in Biella (Festival) for a pasta dish and was fine. I would also email the Entertainer and they should talk to Rich. The problem with venues behaving this way and people accepting it is that they give the impression to other book participants that this is OK. I'd rather the venue wasn't in the book if it wasn't going to honor the rules. edited by Gentle on 11/02/2014

Another vote for Kerastase Cure Intensive Anti Chute ampules. I've done three courses now. Roughly one a year. You need to make sure that the hair loss is at the roots and not due to breakage or the ampules wouldn't affect that. I lost nearly half my hair when we came here (something about the water being harsher than the UK) and these ampules essentially stopped the hairfall. All the treatments I'd tried before only slowed it down. I'm now considering going for the new Densitive ampules from Kerastase as they claim to improve hair density. We'll see, but I am very happy with the other ampules so willing to give this a shot. I did try Argan oil, Frangipani Oil (only way I could tolerate the coconut smell), Regain and fresh Aloe Vera. They only worked for as long as I continued to use them and stopped soon after. I still use use them sometimes but only as a booster. I also love Chronologiste which (as my hairdresser puts it) is like "lipgloss" for the hair. Thanks for sharing OP!

Hi op. I usually use Al Anfal (06 561 7222). I like their prices and service. I've also heard good things about Ghiras and Elaf (06 564 1010). For the record, I would also normally book tickets myself (Fly Dubai/ Fly Nas) and use the agents to book transportation/hotel.

I've heard good things about Platinum Heritage. They have several packages available. Their Desert Safari doesn't include Dune Bashing. There is a voucher for it in the Entertainer. More details on the Safari here: http://www.platinum-heritage.com/heritage-collection/heritage-dinner-safari They also have private cars/tours. Hope this this is helpful.

Thanks for that Apricot. Been thinking about trying it for a while. I tried Al Bayt on Friday and it was pretty nice. Scones were lovely, but the sandwiches were tiny. The place is busy but quiet and service great so might go back. edited by Gentle on 02/02/2014

I love lattes too but like making my own so have a small machine that isn't automated. However, I recently helped my mum choose an automated coffee machine and ended up buying: http://www.delonghi.com/en-US/products/coffee-and-espresso/coffee-makers/pump-espresso/ec-860m-0132109005/ It is Delonghi who are the partners of Nespresso machines. I prefer this though because it uses fresh milk (froths it and measures it out for lattes vs. cappuccinos etc.) and you can choose any kind of coffee beans you like instead of having to stick to getting coffee pods. We bought it from E-max a while ago and mum is raving about it. However, Jashanmal in Festival have a sale going at the moment so I'd head there first.

I normally think Oud is too overpowering for use in perfumes. However, I really liked the perfumes they had in Blends (Khaltat). You can find them in Dubai Mall (near Angelina). I ended up buying one called "love " or "hob" which is lovely- elegant but soft.

Lots of good advice here. I'm of 2 minds, mainly because only you can decide if you want to keep her or not. This may be a ploy she is trying because she is "madly" (there is a reason for that word) in love with her BF. If you are afraid this behavior is a slippery slope of her trying to dictate how and what her job duties are, then I would start looking for a new maid so she'd be settled in by the time your LO arrives. However, if you feel like this is an anomaly in her behavior and she's just testing her boundaries, then I would do the following: Sit down with her and explain that you are worried her father does not realize that he could be costing her her job. Ask her to find a way to reason with him as *she* must know how important it is that she travel with you. Tell her to reason with him because you're sure that once he realizes her job is on the line, he will come around. This way, you'd give her the message without actually threatening to fire her as that, IMO, would be uncomfortable should she decide to stay. You get to still be the good guy, which to me would be quite important if I had a maid who I trusted with my children. Good Luck!

My 2 cents: If you think the maid would be spending more than she would if she has internet access AND you don't want to spoil her, I would consider offering to get her a phone and taking out a small installment from her salary each month for ** number of months until the phone is paid for. It may be just what she is spending on texting and calling right now. The issue of allowing her internet access is one for you to decide as she may just end up saving on her own and buying a phone.
