Thank you so much for your reply. I guess I will sign up for 6 months and see from there. Anyway, I see that they have a 15% off offer as well. Any idea whether you can use this in conjunction with 200 AED offer? Which offer do you use to make it 40 AED per box? Can't remember the first offer but the second one was the Eid offer (12 months for the price of 6). @Notnewintown: They usually do have a full sized product- I'd say in 3 out of every 4 boxes. On the glambox website, I was looking at the contents of the Dec 2013 box. One of the items is Lolita Lempicka perfume. Was that a sample or a full sized bottle you received? Thanks! It was a 5 ml sample.

Apologies for reviving this old-ish thread. Just saw that Glambox has an offer for the next couple of days for 50% off all 6 & 12 month subscriptions. Just use this code: FREESUB114. Enjoy!

1- Was the attendant right in his opinion that the child should not be allowed Pepsi ? My answers would be 1- Yes I would have had a completely sad yet sugar-free childhood, Gentle, had I not been allowed that one rare tiny can of fizz -- remember: the airline size is a LOT smaller than 330ml -- when we flew on holidays. . edited by LadyBee on 14/01/2014 I actually meant to write: 1- Did the Attendant have the right to an opinion that the child shouldn't be allowed Pepsi? In that case yes. But was it the right opinion? I don't know what the answer is since I believe that the mother would know best how her child will react to the soda

2. Schools and nurseries! I've been following quite a few of the posts on schools and nurseries. We had applied to Dubai British School, and a few others, and have DBS has just refused, saying the waiting list is closed (although their website and the emails said it was still open). Our plan was to register for a few asap while we are not in Dubai, and then continue to look once I arrive. I guess the twins will need to be in FS1 for Sept 2014 - but I can't seem to get them anywhere, except for schools that arent quite built yet! Quite a few schools are set to open branches in Sep 2014. I wouldn't give up because they're still being built, but I understand your need for more concrete options. What schools have you considered?

I think the reason people are divided over this, is that there are 2 main issues here. 1- Was the attendant right in his opinion that the child should not be allowed Pepsi ? And 2- Was the Attendant right to enforce his opinion by refusing service against the mother's wishes? My answers would be 1- Yes and 2- No. Absolutely not. The point is, the attendant's opinion is just that: an opinion. While it may be right, it may also be wrong. Ultimately, a mother should be trusted to make those decisions for her child. A flight attendant does not get to have veto power in what a passenger (Adult or child) is allowed to drink/eat, provided no rules are being broken. edited by Gentle on 14/01/2014 edited by Gentle on 14/01/2014

A few things I wanted to say 1. To the OP, there will always, always be a range of responses, of a 360 degree variation, from little nuggets of wisdom, to symapthy, a cynic will come along, a poster who has a different opinion but is a little timid to voice it, ones who like to inflame for the heck of it, and those who are plain rude (you know who you are), with a thread generating as much interest as yours, its part of the deal, we are all there, you've got to take the good with the bad. Just know that since none of us know you this is just an opinion and isnt personal. If others hesitate to start a new thread, you will lose out on some seriously sound advice and as I have often seen, genuine offers of help that have made a real difference in someone's life, so please grow a thick skin and ignore the bad, and pay attention to the good! 1.1. Doesnt anyone else remember dozens of wind up threads that were completely false and deliberately started to kick up the forum a notch or two when it got boring? It became a sort of test of wits to sniff out the wind ups from the genuine tales of despair, and so may have set a pattern for those who have seen this before and are wary of being taken for a mug. It doesnt mean the OP is falsifying things. Its just our BS meter is always on. That said, I didnt read about the lady who asked for help and later died and it is horrible to think she was treated badly. Especially since so many others have recieved a lot of support in their time of need. Thats the crazy thing about EW, you post at the wrong time, and the thread can take a completley different turn sometimes. 2. Is anyone else curious about Coffeegirl's soap opera romance and wants to know more or is it just me? 3. Did anyone laugh at the thought of EW admin plotting this thread ? 4. Sorry but its blah blah blah. Thats about it I think. Well said!

This is the worst "sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach" kind of situation. There are so many unknown variables here that we can only give our opinion of the side that we're seeing which is why I think the responses here are so different. At the end of the day, what really matters right now is the OP focuses on herself and her little one. I wouldn't consume my energy in getting the husband jailed, fired or deported (which is likely if the affair is reported). Instead I would wait until this emotional roller coaster calms down. Time enough to deal with it all later and decide what the right course of action (for you) is. Our prayers and thoughts are with you Celesti. Stay strong.

I tried Desert Palm and while nice, I wouldn't say it was special. Raffles was great when they had the traditional one, but the fashionista one isn't my cup of tea. Al Qasr was lovely, and even better was Rhodes in Residence at Grosvenor Hotel- supposedly Dubai's only Michelin star tea. I'd consider giving it a go. edited by Gentle on 07/01/2014

You can actually check with the Ministry of Social Affairs' "Child Department" to see if the nursery has been approved for a fee increase. It doesn't seem fair that you only find out this way and with 5 days to go...

I have several friends who have put in cameras. Its a live feed that they can access online so from laptop, phone, etc.- great for peace of mind. They check in every once in a while. I don't see why an employer would mind, lots of people check their messages at work and this is more important. OP- If I had a baby, I would absolutely install cameras before going back to work.

Oh and isn't she lucky to a 300 DHs increase in THREE years! I must come and work for you! edited by Eleanorah on 05/01/2014 True, it's only a 300 aed increase in 3 years. Then again it is a %25 salary increase which is more than most people get in 3 years. Just saying, there is more than one side to this.

i would expect a women to hold a door for me as much as man and to be polite. I don't let doors swing closed behind me in someones face just because I am woman, nor would i only expect a man to give up his seat for someone more in need. I agree, but I do feel that women show more empathy- this may just be my experience though. I also don't only expect a man to give up his seat for someone more in need. However, my father always did it rather than a allow a woman to give up her seat. Am I really very old fashioned in saying that I preferred the way it used to be done ? Granted, I was a girl and the door was being held open for my pregnant mother, or the seat was offered to her but I still appreciate. I do hold doors open to whoever is behind me. I also give my seat to pregnant women or those with children. I just find that I am now doing it alone whereas before, there would be several offers of a newly vacated seat- mostly from men. Fresh back from a trip to the UK, I have to say that while it is less noticeable there, it does feel like chivalry is not what it used to be. edited by Gentle on 31/12/2013

Hope you're feeling better OP! I agree that manners seem to be dwindling these days. What happened to men holding the door open for you, giving up their seat for you and allowing you into the elevator first? These little, but very meaningful, acts of decency are disappearing and I don't like it. I was in the elevator the other day when the door opened and five men pushed in WHILE I was trying to get out in spite of my repeated "excuse me" which they ignored. Having been backed into a corner, I had to ask them firmly and loudly to let people get out before they got on.What really got me? they seemed surprised! Just one of many cases. A shame really.

My friend had her baby in Garhoud about 4 months ago and she's been raving about it- doctors, nurses, 24/7 care, etc. as compared to her previous experience. I would suggest asking the doctor what he recommends since he must know what his patients experiences have been like and which hospital is better at meeting expectations.

We're growing Gardenias, coffee, lavender ( french & english varieties), and tulips. We have a little rose bush which is lovely and several kinds of mini rose plants. DH is the one with the green thumb so I can ask him for specifics but generally he makes sure they're hydrated and in the sun (window not balcony). Some seem to need moisture and he'll place a humidifier next to them a couple of hours a day. We tried growing orchids but they keep dying. Everything else is doing very well and the greenery just adds life to the place. Good luck!

She can eat anything she likes (she seems to love eggs so we stock up on that). No food in the house is off limits and definitely not what we're having for dinner. If she doesn't like what we're having, she's free to make herself a meal. If she needs a certain type of food we ask her to add it to the grocery list. Toiletries etc she has access to our stock. Clothes worn for work and around the house are provided by us (she chooses them though). She doesn't go to restaurants with us, but we try to pick up a meal that she likes on the way home. At the end of the day, she is here to save money. It doesn't seem fair to make her pay for necessities that will eat up a large chunk of her salary. Every once in a while, I will send her to the store with a bill and ask her to pick up any treats she wants. However, I won't give extra money except when I decide as I don't encourage that a maid asks for more money. She thankfully hasn't to date. Yes, she is an employee and I pay her wages. Still, this is a woman who is staying as a guest in my home and I will treat her as such. I don't aim to be overly generous, just fair. If I'm not sure what the right thing to do is, I imagine myself in her shoes. That usually does the trick.

I've been a subscriber since they started and it is a bit of a love hate relationship. Some boxes are great and I'm really happy I invested the money. Others are not so great and leave me regretting my decision. I've always subscribed or renewed with an offer so I haven't paid more than 40 AED for any box. For that price I'd say it is worth it. I got to test some lovely products. I'd check the previous boxes and see how you like them: http://www.glambox.me/box I have to say the packaging is beautiful (they collect unwanted boxes every once in a while to recycle them). They deliver each month through Aramex and send you the tracking number to follow up. I still look forward to my box every month! edited by Gentle on 22/12/2013

I also tried Keratin (the "gentle" one). The first time was nice in terms of my hair being soft and manageable. I used all the right shampoos, products etc, and the effects lasted about 4 months. Then my hair felt very dry. I used it a second time about 8 months after the first and started to lose my hair big time- it was an awful and scary experience. It took about 6 months to stop the hair fall (I'm assuming it had worn off by then) and another 6 to get my hair back on track . I now prefer to keep my hair healthy with regular products and lots of TLC. Keratin doesn't work for everyone. edited by Gentle on 22/12/2013

My hair used to be the same. Products that really helped are: L'Occitane : Repairing Shampoo & Conditioner ( Great for dry and damaged hair) I then moved on to: Kerastase Nutri Thermique Shampoo I'm also a believer in hair masks. I've used quite a few, but the most moisturising one is probably the Kerastase Oleo Relax gold packaged one. It is also pretty thick so lasts forever. Finally for frizzy hair, I can recommend the Ultime elixir (a serum from Kerastase). I started with the gold but as my hair calmed down and softened I found it way too heavy so have moved on to the pink. It was great when I first started though. Now, for a "miracle" like treatment with instant results, I'd recommend the "Chronologist" from Kerastase. Do it yourself rather than at the salon as the price would be much more reasonable. I use it before any party/ event and it always looks like I just got a hair makeover. I hope this helps!
