Hi Geordie expat. Yes no problem with that. If you check the measurements and your cat and I will check our cat again and then I can at least give the airline an estimate. If its a plastic type then I will weigh the one I have (but its not airline approved) & then that will give me an idea of the total weight also. Then we can get in touch when you get back from your hols.Thanks very much. OK our Bengal is about the same size as yours. The crate is a Sky Kennel Small 21"L x 16"W x 15"H. According to our suitcase scales weight about 3/4 kgs. Hope all this helps.

I got my first one and renewed at the airport it only took 10 mins both times. Just give yourself a little extra time and it should be fine! edited by mannikat on 11/05/2015 Unfortunately I don't think the Egate place is open at 'stupid o'clock' in the morning :( I got my first one at stupid o'clock (pre 2am flight) in T1. This says 24hrs but not sure that is still the case, might just be til 10pm, try calling them you never know! safe travels! http://www.dubaifaqs.com/e-gate-card.php Thanks I'll make a few phone calls this afternoon. If I have no luck we can always try Tip 1 ;)

Thank you everyone, I have opened account and so far so good. I hope, I don't have to face any issues. And they actually give all the benefits they promised. Does anyone know whether you are allowed to transfer your savings from HSBC Premier account to your home country? I have heard that you have to have a minimum amount on the HSBC Premier in order to qualify being HSBC Premier? Axelle, you are right...you need to have salary transfer of 50k Dhs and above or maintain a balance of 350k Dhs to qualify for premier account. We don't have either of these. Perhaps we got ours because we had one opened for us by our RM in the UK Yes GE, if you have premier account in UK, you can have it here without any such requirement. I did wonder as we have nowhere near the requirements. I think he only did it as a favour to us :)

Sanddy_Dogg- thanks for your advice. I was just looking at the info from the website that Geordie expat put on before. Will print out the information you have sent and then double check their measurements again tonight with DH. The cat is a ****** to do!! I'll measure our crate tonight and try and measure the Bengal who travelled in it !!!! Unfortunately we go on holiday on Wednesday for 10 days, but if you have the measurements would that be ok until we get back?

Thanks Geordie expat Yes I remember you said to me before that you may have one. Here are their measurements.... cat: 47cm from tip of nose to tail/ 35cm from tip of ears to feet and then length of leg is 14cm and breadth of neck is 14cm. dog: 54cm from tip of nose to tail/ 31cm from tip of ears to feet and then length of leg is 14cm and breadth of neck is 17cm. As you have experience in this... would I need to take the animals with me to buy the container or will the measurements be enough? I have just been ringing around a few of the pet stores and asking prices. Seem to range from 175- 350dhs depending on the size you need. Is the pet shop in GC good? Leave it with me and I'll measure our box tonight and let you know if your cat will fit in. Yes the pet shop at GC is very good and I would recommend taking your dog with you to check on sizes. I am a bit put off by going to a City I think as I have to push the kids around everywhere on my own and use public transport with them but will see if there is a hotel in Munich that is near to things so I can walk everywhere - thanks S&B CP - Cyprus cant be hotter and more humid than here, surely? Cyprus can be as hot as 40 during August and September and humid in the cities. It's never as bad on the coast though as there is always a lovely cooler breeze coming from the sea :)

All said though I have never had a problem with them in the last three years no matter what I have ordered. haha oops! We are premium customers and had better service when they were Lloyds but I honestly don't know of any bank I would change to here. My main gripes are with the HSBC credit card: 1. We've stopped receiving our credit card statement by post and they can't explain why we are not receiving it because it's being sent to our private postbox. Ordinary bank statements to the same postbox get through no problem. 2. Only the principal credit card holder of a HSBC joint credit card account is allowed to have online visibility or verbal information regarding credit card balances or purchases. We have an automatic payment set up and they can still legally debit our joint bank account for the outstanding credit card monthly payment without telling me how much money they are taking and what purchases it relates to. And of course, there is the inconvenience of having a credit card declined because you don't know that the limit has been reached because they haven't taken the monthly payment. There is no way around this, they tell me. I've assumed this just happens with HSBC as I haven't heard of anyone else having these issues, so I would think twice before having a joint HSBC credit card linked to the account, if you are looking for that facility. We also have this with DH as principal card holder, but we know what the limit is and always check with each other if one has spent when the other wasn't present. Also the monthly payment has always gone out on time and we both get an SMS to say so. Saying this mind, it's the same with our UK account too as DH is the principal card holder. <em>edited by Geordie expat on 09/05/2015</em>

You'll probably get loads of people saying "no don't do it" on here, but I for one have never had a problem with their Premier Service. DH and I had a premier account in the UK, so just carried on the same out here. Free withdrawals from any cash machine and free international transactions are a bonus. OK so the rates probably aren't as good as elsewhere, but if we do ever have a large amount to transfer, we go elsewhere.

I wouldn't hesitate in paying 50% upfront and I can completely understand why these salons now do it. So many people don't show for hair/salons appointments for no real reason, whereas if the deposit is paid they will more than likely show. No shows costs salons a huge amount of money in lost revenue and if you're definitely going to go to your appointment why not pay it to guarantee your stylist edited by Mollydxb on 07/05/2015 I agree completely, no matter whether it's a one hour appointment or a four hour appointment

I know, it should be made mandatory to have them Tell me about it. They don't start calling you till you're 50 and if you don't bother to turn up or forget, you're never chased, until the next time.

Thanks ladies. I was wondering whether or not people thought it should be down to the landlord or tenant as opposed to what your personal experience is. Thanks again. Should be the landlord as it will be over AED500 which is what most contracts state, but as I said it depends on what sort of a job you want doing!

I would also add to this, it depends on what sort of job you want doing. Our LL sent his own maintenance guys round and they only did a half hearted job. We got a company out to clean and service ours and didn't even bother telling him. It gave us better peace of mind knowing that it had been done properly.

I don't want to put a downer on your job search, but I don't think you'll manage to find a job while you're here on a visit visa. If you search through other posts on here there a numerous people talking about how long it took them to find a position. Me being one of them. Also as others have said, most Admin/PA roles very rarely come with a visa, as there as so many women out here under their husbands/fathers sponsorship, that it is easier and cheaper to employ them. What I will say is use LinkedIn to it's fullest extent and that may help you.

Hello ladies. I was wondering if anyone could possibly help me please. If I ordered an item of clothing online from Australia would I have to pay taxes on it after arrival here in Dubai? Not usually. I use shop and ship by Aramex to order clothes from the US and UK I believe if the cost is over a certain amount then you can pay extra for customs Geordie Expat may know what the cost before being tax is as I never buy more than AED1000 worth of items at a time Thanks for reminding me Sarahlou :( I had paid over GBP100 when I got caught for customs duty. Now I follow your lead and say that it is a gift and they don't put the price on the receipt :)

Why are you allowed to give a 4 week old baby gripe water when they are not even allowed a few sips of cool boiled water? You would only give 5ml of Gripe Water occasionally with a dropper, not sips of it to drink like water. Its a medication not a drink. edited by chezmoi on 05/05/2015 Obviously I know that. I dont understand the logic in babies under 6 months having medicine before every feed when they are not allowed to have water at all. I agree I would love to know what the harm is as my two never suffered and neither have my grandchildren, the youngest of them is only 3 and he's fine.

The Landlord must provide you with a new contract for the next twelve months, stating the same as the previous one. If you have agreed to everything remaining the same. You will need it to register with Ejari. Or you can get a standard one from a typing centre and fill it in and get him to sign it.
