To be honest it was probably the way you posted your question as it made my blood boil too. It sounded as if your child/children were just waiting to go back to the UK once they were 18 and start claiming benefits!! Having spent the last two years in the UK trying to find work and struggling to get some help from them, even though I had worked non stop for 30 years, this sort of thing really gets to me. I've got an ENBD Credit Card, pay it off every month and never have any charges no matter where I use it. Just don't draw cash on one! Have a look on the banks website and see what they offer. <em>edited by Geordie expat on 13/04/2015</em>

Can you not hire one on your current one? Apparently you can't drive in the UAE with a UK licence if you are a resident. You need to get your local licence. We have a hire car that DH is taking to work and is sitting in the staff car park all day while I have a million and one errands to run! :angry: I drove our hire car until my EID came through

Not sure if this place can help, but I did see an advert in Wafi Mall for a company that offered visas etc. It may be worth a call. Sorry I can't remember any more about it, but it was on a billboard that everyone seemed to be tripping over at the time ;)

I have been dealing with some very inefficient property agents since of late I have this one studio in Dubai Marina which I need to sell pretty quickly . All these people are from reputed agencies and they are very amateur in their approach. All they care is to do photo shoots and list the property and after that it is impossible to even get in touch with them.If anyone know of an agent who has ready buyers and who actually wants to get a deal done please let me know edited by jesspass on 09/04/2015 I have been looking for a new apartment and reluctantly had to try agents Good Luck!!! I'm hoping I've found a good lady from AEON properties. She's be very helpful and considering we haven't a clue about when we may, or may not be having to move, and she does keep in touch regularly.

Not sure if they'll stock Bridal shoes, but Vince Camutto in Dubai Mall, Marina Mall and Festival City have the most comfortable shoes I have ever bought, so perhaps it's worth checking. I'll be honest in that I've tried a couple of different Tips and Toes, although not the one in The Greens, and I have always felt like I'm on a conveyor belt!! When I've been to The Cure it's a totally different experience and I have never felt as if I had to get out immediately after they have finished. They have never rushed me although I do like that they are quick at doing a mani/pedi as I get bored after 30 minutes :) It's my "me" time and they've usually got a half decent film to watch and as much tea as I can drink :) edited by Geordie expat on 08/04/2015 <em>edited by Geordie expat on 08/04/2015</em>

I was wondering about those as well! I really like the JVC area so I was curious to know if there were any good schools there. We aren't moving until August so we won't have VISAs until then so what do I do about applications? What happens if I can't get her in anywhere before school starts? Here we have public schools and you HAVE to go to school so I'm worried! You do know JVC is still very much a building site??

We eat there regularly and never had a bad meal yet :) Is it fancy? or like pub food? Depends which restaurant you go to. Palermo is more of a restaurant and Epona is more casual dining.

The lady at the salon I have started going to will only do gellish for me every two months or so. She insists that I have a normal manicure in between. I have nevr had problems with a pedicure either, the girl is always very good and has never "dug' down the sides of my toes. Mind I could never say the same about the previous salon I used.

I haven't got much in the way of eyelashes, but I tend to stick to having them tinted every six to eight weeks. Makes them look longer and I can always chose the colour.

We bought a great car off Dubizzle earlier this year. You just need to know what you're looking at and try and get to know the buyer before you complete the deal. Also ask if you can have the history or if they know how/where you can get hold of it. <em>edited by Geordie expat on 06/04/2015</em>

I like to get to the airport early, shop, then relax in the lounge until my flight. Plus, being based in Dubai and traveling a lot, there are direct flights nearly everywhere I need to go. To be honest I'm getting better value with my UAE Airmiles card and I get lounge access with my mastercard. The most annoying thing is that I can't use my airmiles and ten to one they'll expire before I get the chance

The Westin does a day package I think it's around the 2k mark, but it does include lunch and beach and pool access for the whole day. We use AquaPlus good company and never a problem with delivery. It's also the nicest tasting water I've had out here http://www.myaquaplus.com/ I would also recommend the Midea cooler, where the bottle goes in the bottom. Much easier to change. <em>edited by Geordie expat on 05/04/2015</em>

this gives me hope. But why then does every single article I read say 'notarised notice.....OR ..... registered mail'? :( I receive my notice via courier but it was just a letter, not a notarised notice, and did provide me with 12 months notice give or take a few days tbh. edited by Diamante on 04/04/2015 A friend, who works for an Estate Agents, has shown me hers and it has the Dubai Court stamp on it. She checked when on a RERA course and they said that was the only legal 12 months notice. I think you can just go to RERA and ask if it is valid without having to file a case <em>edited by Geordie expat on 04/04/2015</em>

Sure, they are not made here, but could it be that the digital clocks destined for the UAE are the rejects of other countries with higher electronic standards? My car clock is one of the only ones I can rely on. The Al Fajr digital clocks are good but they are not glow-in-the-dark. edited by AnonDubai on 04/04/2015 Yes but neither my clock radio (Philips) nor my IPod/cd player (John Lewis) were bought here and they gain like crazy

So do you think that it is something about the electricity in this country? There's obviously something triggering this, but I haven't really thought about it. Although there are a lot more pylons around here.

Hi yes there will be a community pool, gym and tennis courts although not sure when they will be open. My husband has called Dubai Properties and they said it would most likely be next year before the shopping centre opens. With regards to the gardener we are using a guy called Nazin 0502072796. He is doing quite a few gardens round here. He is considerably cheaper than some quotes we were getting and he is doing a good job so far. We have half paved and half grassed and he is charging us Aed 4500 ( we have had several quotes ranging from 10k to 30k!! ). For the cleaning we use focus maids and they charge Aed 35 per hour min 4 hours. Hope this helps! Thanks so much for this. I'll add it all to my info folder. :)

Hi GE I don't live in Mudon but have looked at a couple of villas there and in Casa - I agree they make really good value for money and we would move there had we not just renewed for another year! I do know that people are getting the villa's for much less money than they are advertised - so do negotiate and start off quite a lot lower. I also know that new tenants are either getting the landscaping included as part of taking the villa or getting a discount as a contribution to it. In terms of accessing cleaners and gardeners I think many of the companies that operate in Arabian Ranches will go that bit further although I can't confirm this yet. Arabian Ranches have several Facebook pages and I think they are accepting people from Mudan and Casa into those groups - so it may be worth trying there. What's it like getting a gardener to do the initial work on the gardens? We were just thinking of paving the whole of the back as it doesn't look too big. Have you tried to employ a cleaner at all or do you know if there are aby good ones around?

Who knows......plus he says I am wrong... Not a lot I can do but I would like mine cancelled as well... Sorry for what sounds like an awful situation, but he may only realise you were right, when none of you can get back into the country. A guy who used to work with my DH thought he was being clever as he wanted to leave his job and go back home, but didn't want to work his notice. He left supposedly on holiday and never came back. He didnlt believe anyone either about this and when he tried to come back for a holiday he was turned away.

Thanks. So , if I take kids back to UK but they want to come out to Dubai to see their Dad does he either have to cancel their residency or do they have to come back within six months. Tks If I was you I would cancel their residency just in case you can't make it back within the six months and especially if you won't actually be living here anymore. They can always come back on visit / tourist visas
