We've been in JVT three years now and are coming up to our fourth. House size wise, they are great, loads of room so you're not all on top of each other and the gardens are fabulous. Plenty of room for a pool if you want one. Yes I agree with Cosmos Friend it does have it's bad points, but doesn't everywhere. A lot of it depends on where you are living in regards to things like the sewerage smell, lack of lighting and traffic. I can say that we've been lucky and the only problem we had was when the street lights were out for a couple of weeks. I don't have kids so can't comment on the mums and kids, but I do know that they have a facebook page for meet ups. Also on the subject of the facebook page, it has to be taken with a pinch of salt as there are some valid points made sensibly, but then you have the odd one or two who really go off on one and spoil it for the others. On the downside, there are only two shops and a pharmacy. Very few of the facilities have been finished apart from the tennis and basketball courts and I don't hold out much hope for them. We'll probably stick it out for another year and then try and find somewhere for our final few years out here. it gets a bit wearing having to drive to go for a swim at nights and on the weekends. I'd rather have somewhere I could walk to. If you want to ask anything else, please feel free.

I've never actually asked for organic meat at Park n Shop, but what I will say, is that their butcher is really good. If you ask him for something and it isn't available he will try and they have always been back in touch when asked. Personally I will only ever buy organic if I can actually see where it's come from. Too many people say their meat is organic and sometimes it isn't

I've got trays I brought with me from the UK and just go and buy the whitening solution from my dentist whenever I feel the need. Probably every six months or so. I get six syringes and one syringe does two nights as I leave mine on overnight.

No. the venue said they have to be paid in full 48hrs in advance, so the party hosts did have to pay for the child who did not show up. Instead of invoicing them, just don't invite them to the next party if they feel that strongly about it ! Yes but as they then said, they could have added that cost to the bar bill. So I presume that would help cover any extra costs of food and drink etc

to be hoenst - if you say your child is going to a party where numbers are needed and paid for in advance and then you decide to do sowmthing else instead - you should pay. Then the parents are stupid for not collecting the money in advance then! Yes, but then who's going to pay to go to a childs party?

Did anyone notice the number on the invoice? Either made up or these guys have done this before. Also the place where they held the party said that they never charge a 'no show' fee, people can always add it to their bar bill!!

Is your door one large pane of glass or separate ones? Some of my neighbours had the bottom pane taken out and replaced with one which included a cat flap, then had it reversed when they moved out.

I'm planning a similar trip for later this year, but only to Athens and Santorini. We're spending a couple of days sightseeing in Athens at the start, 7 nights on Santorini :) and then overnight in Athens before we fly back here.

6 nights - 7 days won't give you much time to visit many islands if you want a relaxing time. To be honest I would try and chose a maximum of three islands to visit, Santorini definitely being the main one :) Here's a ferry company to help you get started, but you really are going to have to schedule this out to the last minute to make it work. http://www.ferries.gr/bluestarferries/cyclades/

Oh that is disappointing if The Ivy is only doing entertainer bar food! No it's still doing both bar and restaurant :) which book is it in as we cant find the restaurant on the fine dining app it just says bar menu? Thanks They're both in the Fine Diner and on my app

Also, our cats just rip the mesh that's in the fly screens. Maintenance replaced them all recently, and one of the cats ripped a hole in one yesterday and escaped! Presume it needs to be quite strong mesh to stop them clawing/biting holes in it.. Some of our neighbour's have used chicken wire, but if your cats are clever, they may use it to climb up. One of ours loves to do that :) The only other thing I have seen in a couple of the villas here is wire attached to the top of the walls, but at an angle inwards so the cats can't manage to jump over it. i know someone who has done that to her garden walls - two of her cats have worked out how to climb it and now triumphantly sit atop of it..... am sure with a smirk ;) The ones I've seen, they couldn't manage that as it is angled so far inover that the cats would have to be able to hang upside down and then swing round onto the top. Then they'd probably slide down the other side and out. Saying that our Bengal would love to have something like that to play on. :cat:

Lol, two of ours used to do that too, come back in to use the litter tray! Now they have discovered a big sandy area on a neighbour's terrace. It is in the shade of a huge tree so grass won't grow there and it is just scrubby and sandy- perfect for cats to poo in!! I was blissfully unaware of this until I went to talk to the neighbour's maid. No wonder they are complaining. As you say Izzy I think they use the same spot for the toilet over and over, must be something to do with the scent and territory. I think we would need to get rid of the smell of their poo in the neighbours area to stop them using it. Anyway, I'm still waiting for the management lady to tell me what they have decided about cats in the compound before we can decide what action we need to take. Try putting cloves of garlic in the sand once you have cleared it. Our neighbour does that in his garden and it certainly keeps the cats out of his flowers

Do you know where I could get them over the counter? I called boots and they said they couldn't I know exactly what I need. Been in the health care field for over 6years in the US, recently moved here and don't have insurance or a doctor yet. I just went to one of the usual pharmacies, here in Dubai we have Bin Sina, Life and a number of others and told them exactly what I wanted. Never thought to even try Boots

Geordie bird. Yes that's what I was thinking of. I'm not sure though whether they'd be able to get over the top as for now they have no need to try! We'd have to rip all the climbers out and get mesh put up against the railings. Possibly the sort of thing Jim will fix it can do?? They could probably help with that, but what we also find is the cats stay away from the bougainvillea as they can be quite thorney, so perhaps you could replace your climbers with that.

If the cats can't get over the railings, could you not just put wire mesh over them. The other thing I have seen is a cat enclosure, which I believe came from DKC, that a friend of mine had attached to the wall of her house.

I made beef roast in the oven yesterday. Slow cooked it for about 2 hours in the oven and although it is lovely and tender it is so so DRY. Not moist at all. Is there anything I can do to make it moist or do you know what I can make it into without resorting to binning it? I covered it in sauce/gravy yesterday but no luck, still as dry. :( Thanks.... Did you have some fat to cook it with or did you baste it while it was cooking as this helps with the dryness. Beef always tends to be dry. I tend to cook mine with onions, veg, garlic and olive oil and that also helps keep it moist. Also never put it in the oven straigjht from the fridge, allow it to get to room temperature and let it stand before you slice into it <em>edited by Geordie expat on 07/01/2015</em>

Izzy, just another little question. You say some of yours are outdoors. How do you stop them using neighbours' gardens or communal areas as a toilet? I've now discovered this has been happening too and can understand how this would make people mad! Could be others cats too of course. We have three outdoor cats too and it's impossible to see where they go and what they do. Luckily JVT has a large number of cats, both owned and feral, so it's not too bad. Although I will admit some people do not like it, but they are always advised about the water pistol idea.

I dont understand why the BCG vaccine is given a day or 2 after a baby is born. We had ours wayyyyy later in life, it seems very early to put a vaccine into a tiny baby. Because the risk was lower when we were younger brought up in countries where TB was almost eradicated. Some research http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8613331 Neither of mine have had BCG, when did it become routine? Both mine were born in different European countries where we lived at the time. Has anyone taken their older children for BCG over here? I remember when we were at school they did a six needle test and then afterwards we had a vaccination. Think we were about 14. I agree with the others and am an advocate for vaccinations too. I had measles as a young child and my mother told me it's a miracle I am here as it turned to meningitis and I was very poorley. I think I had mine at primary school but cannot remember as it was so long ago Had mine done when I was around 11/12

This is particularly true for professional women.. It may have been more unusual when you were born, but honestly.. Do you really look twice when you see a woman in her late 30's early 40's pushing a pram today? OP - if you can afford it in terms of money and time... the decision is yours. I will admit it was a "long" time ago, but I still thought the OP may like to hear it from the other side. My parents were lucky in that they both lived long and healthy lives, but unfortunately for some of us that isn't the case.

Isn't DH, Dear Husband? Lol! DH - could be so many things....... Dubai Husband, Dear Husband, Daft Husband, [b'>**** head[/b'> I wonder how many of us will admit to thinking that ;)

Personally I prefer the book. All I do is take out the vouchers I think I may use, paper clip them together and then have the appropriate ones in my bag when we go out. Yes I sometimes forget to take them but it's no big deal. I have always got my money back on the books. I've also got the HSBC app and so far haven't been able to use it as no WiFi where I've been. <em>edited by Geordie expat on 05/01/2015</em>

Thanks Sarah, thought as much. How about online sites that sell perfumes - does anyone have any experience? GE I believe everyone who's selling their wares would package them properly, its what's in the bottle that could be fake - were you able to tell that the perfumes you bought on Souq were originals after you opened the packaging, as I saw even on Souq they seem quite cheap. The one I am wearing today must be ok as a number of girls in the office have recognised it for what it is. The other one smells exactly as I remember it although I haven't tried asking anyone else yet.

My DH had a very different outcome with Nicholas & Asp. I think it very much depends on the dentist concerned. He had root canal treatment which was partially covered by our insurance and when he went back for the second and third time because he wasn't happy it was put right free of cost
