My one question in this situation would be, 'do you know where the rest of his salary is going' Perhaps he's just being cautious until he's sure everything is working out ok. I did pretty much the same as you when I came out here, but until we found our feet, I was quite happy to give up on a lot of things until we were more stable. Do you actually know what the household finances and spending add up to?

Congratulations Beebers on resigning. With all this celebrating going on I'm wondering if it's time for a G&T. 90 minutes and I'll join you, but with a V&T

Maybe I'm being naive here, but surely the school have some responsibility if a child does not turn up and they have not been informed of an absence by the parents.

thanks ladies. Is positive paws same as posh paws? which used to be near sharjah? didn't have a great experience with them one year long time ago. i live in um sequim izzy - will your pet sitter actually take the dog or visit my home? i don't think i want him here on his own - he will be too lonely! No Positive Paws is based in Al Quoz.. Our two go there for daycare twice a week and everytime we go away. Wouldn't leave them anywhere else now :)

All I can think is that I'm so pleased he hasn't even the slightest chance of being in the top three  I red thumbed you - in case you were wondering :D Can't see them on this laptop and don't care  Anyway he's had his day(s) at the top. It was the car designer who got him there and that will all change next year. edited by Geordie expat on 20/11/2014

If you're *really* into your coffee, you could go all-out and get a manual espresso maker from a supplier like RAW Coffee. I have enjoyed pod coffee, but I really like the fact that I am actually making REAL coffee with all the grinding and pumping and planning that a manual espresso maker involves. What's more: if you buy a machine from RAW, they will show you how to use it and get the best out of it, and you also have access to fresh-roasted beans 'on tap' for your coffee-making future. I'm not dissing the pod method (promise) but you will LOVE making your own coffee from scratch if you're into this sort of thing. It's worth the effort anyway. Good luck in your decision. http://rawcoffeecompany.com/collections/home-espresso Or just cheat and buy their beans to use in a good bean to cup machine. Been doing this for years and would never go back to any other type of coffee now

Good luck! It's a lovely community and not far from the shops etc at Motor City. Thanks. I have a feeling I'll need more than luck to make this work.

For buying or renting? I think the rental properties get snapped up but the ones for sale are taking a while to shift. They are building 30 new houses in a new phase but not sure when thats due to be complete Renting. That's why I'm concerned about the 90 days notice. I know there are properties available now (according to propertyfinder) and want to just have a general look around, but I am really concerned that once we have given our current LL notice to quit we'll end up homeless :(

Why not have a look at Subaru, if you don't need a huge car. They have a very good safety record.

Can I make a really silly suggestion. Download the MyFitnessPal app onto your phone if you can and be really strict about entering the amount of food you eat and keep an eye on the calories and the steps you do. I was shocked to see how few calories I was actually eating some days, which was why I struggled to lose weight. I also knew that I wasn't walking as much as I used to back home, but again the lack of steps really surprised me too. It's not perfect, but it is easy and it does give you an idea of what you're doing.

Depends on what you're looking for. Lovely big 2 bed stand alone villas, but some people are asking silly prices now. There are no communal facilities apart from a few tennis courts, some childrens play areas and a couple of shops. There is room in the gardens for individual pools if you go down that route. Access in and out is great using the Al Khail and not too bad to SZR now either. Have a look on propertyfinder.ae or contact Mazz Ali at Goldenwave Properties, sorry I don't have his mobile to hand but you can reach him from here http://www.propertyfinder.ae/en/rent/villa-for-rent-dubai-jumeirah-village-triangle-2627179.html Any other questions please just ask. edited by Geordie expat on 17/11/2014

Personally I wouldnt state a specific salary as they have put the range on the ad and you've applied. I also wouldnt agree on a lower salary and then a higher one, even if this is in writing. You have a value (regardless of your personal circumstances) and this value is the same now as it would be in 3 months time. How about something along the lines that your salary expectation would be commensurate with your experience and qualfications within the range they have provided and you can discuss further at interview. edited by ClaireBonkersB on 15/11/2014 edited by ClaireBonkersB on 15/11/2014 What I will add to this though is how much do you want the job? I was asked this a couple of times when looking for work and found that if you are not prepared to state a salary, they will still not take it any further. If you really do want the job you may have to opt for the lower end of what you expect, even to just get the interview.

if she is on her Dh's sponsorship, her visa has to be cancelled prior to his current visa being cancelled (or, he can pay a deposit and put it on hold). If he cancels her visa, she can travel out. If he puts in on hold, she can not travel out. once he has his new visa, she can have hers within 24-48 hours. OK then. Just another thought, Can his new company not just opt to transfer his visa?

Get your DH to offer to pay the extra for the VIP if the company won't as it's only for him.

The visa really should take no time at all, and you can pay for a VIP medical service which is done in 24 hours to speed it along .. Plus it will only be a blood test this time round :)

I agree. A fully qualified nanny would only cook for and clean up after the children, not the rest of the household.
