Are they trying to get more money out of you this way? Yes, total rent is more than if you check with RERA calculator. But the second problem - I want to keep one type of payment - rent . Because now they want to make two - rent + utility - rent is less than RERA calculator but with utility payment it's more. And I have no idea what they can do with this utility payment in 1 year . I think it's just smart system to take more money but I want to find out is it by law or not. Definitely check with the Rent Committee as SarahLou says. How have you previously paid your utility bills?

So I was getting my nails done at my regular salon.There were no other clients, probably because it was 10 AM. These 3 foreigner ladies stepped in for a blow dry, it took them 10 mins to explain they need a blow dry (they could not speak more than few words of English). Hair dresser told them price and additional charge for doing blow dry for hair extensions as well. While girls were working on their hair, those ladies were not happy with the work. Hairdresser was turning blue (with anger :lol: after one of the ladies kept calling her "Not professional" ), she than offered them if they dont like her work, may be they can go to some other salon. They did not leave and asked the girls to finish job. After finishing the work, they refused to pay any money. Hairdresser was already ****** off, she asked them pay otherwise she'll call police. They said "we prefer police" and started smoking INSIDE the salon, kept yelling, calling salon girls with different names while making the video. Police arrived, they continued with police officer, refused to delete any photos or videos (including mine :cry: ) refused to pay any money. After 2 hours, they finally had to pay, delete the videos and leave. Saying Dubai is a ****** place, they pay only 5 Euro in France to get hair done and this salon along with police ripped them off. Poor salon girls were in tears and embarrassed. I was speechless at the end of my service and I dont know if i will ever go back to them, i just feel weird. I dont know why some people will create so much drama? those ladies could simply go to some other salon or the salon girls could leave the money. :nerd: I dread to think what salon they went to in France where a blow dry was EURO 5 I have been in many salons here where clients have abused the staff. I would love to see them behave this way in my salon at home. At the first sign of trouble my hairdresser would of stopped her work and shown them the door. I do feel that some people feel other nationalities are inferior to them and that they should be treated like royalty. Did you say anything as I [b'>would of [/b'>found it hard to keep quiet? You're obviously not following the thread on English Language :biggrin:

As far as I am aware there are not buses out there. I believe there may be one or two coffee shops. but not sure where. Sorry. Why don't you join their facebook page? I'm sure you would find lots of information on there.

My Mum was good with me in that she made me sit down and go through everything when she was alive and sort it all out. Consequently there was no going through years and years of collectibles, paperwork or anything like that.

Who would really stay here if they weren't making decent savings? We were, but now with the prospect of digging deeper into our own pockets to cover rent increases, that's threatened. When you're losing money and have no job prospects at home, THAT'S depressing. Us. As I've said a job and very small savings is better than no job back home and the chance of losing our home :(

We've made our will very specific going the opposite way. As two of our children have been quite wayward in their past, we have stipulated certain things, which will prevent them inheriting any large sums of cash we may have or a share in properties.

Why are people staying if they are struggling to afford the cost of living here? This is a real question Wnt to get perspective. Tere are no rights, no standard qualities (family, free healthcare, forced pension being accrued by the covenant from wages - the things tax pay for and family basically). Is it for the tax free living? I have looked at rent prices people are paying and the prices add to near annual tax rates.And for those paying school fees for why everyone seems to rear to as public equivalent schools, the costs here prove to be higher than a tax paying life. If you are one of the ones not saving, why is that? Really not being sarcastic, only asking to get a wider perspective. We are staying purely because neither of us can find work back in the UK. Yes we are saving, but only very little. If we are forced to leave our villa in the next couple of years, that could be a different matter, unless rent goes down I think many people are in the same boat GE Unfortunately, we've probably only got 3/4 years max to get as much as we can out of it :( And if rents go up or we're forced to move :\: <em>edited by Geordie expat on 11/11/2014</em>

I've also heard they are building a tram in Emaar Boulevard around the Dubai Mall - does anyone know if that is true? They are definitely building one along the middle of Emaar Boulevard, not sure where it's going though.

First of all let me mention that I am a tenant like most of us here. But I do agree to some posts here that 12 months notice plus 4 months extra (on OP request) is more than enough. I agree that lying is not good but still I guess 16 months is more than fair amount of time tenants to move. What more do we tenants expect? I know that we cannot choose new apartment 12 months in advance but that is not fault of THAT landlord. [b'>I have seen many landlords taking undue advantage of tenants but in this case, I cannot really be angry on the LL.[/b'> Ultimately its their property so they should be able to make some decision about it. Yes, they might want to rent it higher to someone else, but in case of fair amount of notice period, frankly it should not matter. Why not? The rules are there for a reason, not to victimize the LL, to protect tenants from being thrown out every year. I am curious, if the eviction notice is served to you after being in your property for 8 months, you would still be able to say enough notice period, doesn't matter.... I am glad that we agree on the point that rules help protect tenants. As mentioned before, I am a tenant and not a LL. So I guess if an LL is considerate and goes according to rules, we should also be fair to LL. Yes, what I was saying (my opinion) is that 12 months is enough notice. If you are staying there for 8 months or 8 years. By the way, I am curious to know what according to you would be 'enough' notice period. Do reply please. OK so yes 12 months is a long notice period. The problem is that most of us cannot start looking properly until the last few weeks, then what happens if there is nothing suitable. If we were allowed to go down the monthly rent cheque route, perhaps LL would be more amenable to giving their current tennants more flexibility. I can't imagine that every time a property is relet that it happens overnight.

Well I reverse park 99% of the time, as my car is low and the curbs are high = ripped off front of car, so never again do I front park!! I took my bumper off too and Marina mall so always reverse park Same here, only at least it wasn't me driving :)

A - it would be great if you could start looking for somewhere 12 months in advance, but that's impossible as the places you like then will not be available 12 months down the line! B - market rent is a moot point. There is quite a variation when you look at the calculator C - you can always raise your rent if the caculator says you can D - so give your tennant 12 months notice and move back in. Sorry, but I'm so fed up of people saying it's all the tennants fault. We need protecting from certain LL

Geordie expat- I agree with you that LL need to be honest with tenants. No doubt about that. The LL that OP says definitely is WRONG in giving incorrect information. What I mean is that 12+ 4 months is enough time given to vacate a place. As a tenant, we cannot expect to occupy the house forever. I agree that there are tons of LLs who are extremely greedy and care a damn about tenants. It is definitely unfair. But let us be true to ourselves that RERA rules are in favor of tenants which is good for us. I am sorry, but I do not understand what you mean by ' If we all did that, we'de be moving every 12 months'. Do you think your LL will give you eviction notice on the day you sign the contract? LOL :biggrin: It has been known!!. Yes they do favour the tennants, but it's the ones who just give in and let the LL get away with lies. That's what annoys me the most. It's not always easy to find somewhere suitable, especially since you can't really start looking until the last few weeks or so. That is where most, if not all problems arise.

It's just part and parcel of being out here. I think the only thing I was never asked for back in the UK was my nationality. Anyway I bet companies in the UK can get certain information other ways without you having given it to them ;) <em>edited by Geordie expat on 09/11/2014</em>

Sorry to go off on a tangent but has anyone ever visited the lakes regions in the summer time in Germany and felt, um, embarrassed? Those women let it all hang out! Hahaha I think it is culture there. I remember we went to a public swimming pool in Berlin that had a park attached to it and many women were topless. Then I went into the changing rooms and honestly did not know where to look...naked ladies everywhere...[b'>coming from the UK where people are the complete other extreme it was an experience![/b'> I don't know if I agree with that after some of the holidays I've had in Europe. The brits weren't that different to certain other nationalities. It's got to be something to do with the feel of the sun on your skin!!! Once that happens all your inhibitions disappear ;)

Exactly mrsb. DH and I had that happen to both of us back in the UK. He was lucky to be head hunted by a company out here, but for me it was very much age discrimination. My CV had all the experience necessary for every role I applied for and in some cases over experience, but once they saw my date of birth I stood no chance. The only way I did eventually get a role, was by networking and it's a role I did back in my 20s !!!

I must admit I enjoy having someone some in to do the 'hard' work twice a week. I absolutely hate mopping the floors, give me a carpet and hoover any day :) She's ok with the ironing, but I still do my own washing and iron anything remotely good myself, or if it's DH shirts they get sent out. I was a bad Army wife and he did all the ironing. I cant iron for toffee and have to send it out I bought one of the steam mops and they are much better than regular ones edited by sarahlou123 on 06/11/2014 He's quite happy to do his own ironing, but at AED3 a shirt, what the h**l. Saves us having to stand and iron. Sorry, but nothing will persuade me to mop the floors, even a new contraption ;) I hated doing the kitchen back home too.

The person who interviewed me wanted me, it was the 'big' boss who wanted a young dolly bird !!!

I was initially recommended physio by a different doctor as he thought it was just a muscle injury, as did I. After six sessions and no improvement it was the physio who recommended Dr Nojoomi. He straight away guessed that it was rotator cuff issues and also a torn tendon. MRI confirmed this, along with a bone spur. I was in hospital overnight and then off for 1 week, as I had to keep my arm and shoulder immobile. I'm now onto my 8th physio session out of 15 and things are slowly getting back to normal. It's a long process for me because of the tendon tear, but also your shoulder muscles take time to recover from being pulled about internally. I've been told probably six months and I should be back to normal. Things like driving the car were allowed after 4-6 weeks, still no swimming though :( I would certainly recommend the surgery route if that's what he suggests. If you want to know anything else just shout.

That is one of the reasons I like living here, the waiting time for appointments is almost zero. DD had to wait six weeks to see a consultant and then another four for the biopsy, then another four for the results. 14 weeks of worrying :( <em>edited by Geordie expat on 05/11/2014</em>

My 28 year old DD has just gone through something similar and was back in the UK :( As everyone has said please don't google anything AT ALL. Majority of these things are benign and she spent a few weeks both before and after getting really stressed and upset, all for no reason :) :)

I lost weight here, I don't know about all of you, but I find food here to be almost tasteless and very sterile so I'm not a big foodie now. Plus taking the stairs helps I guess. Really ? omg... we love it !! I can't believe someone has actually said this. We have had the most amazing food here.

We brought out 2 dogs and 3 cats with the help of DKC, who then kept them for another month until our villa was ready. Yes, expensive. Would I do it again, definitely and I would always use them.

I was at Jetty Bar the other night and it's lovely :) I really like it there too, it has relaxed wow factor. I haven't done it but you can also get the boat from the Jetty Lounge over to the bar at the One and Only across the water. Was there on Thursday for early sundowners GE, maybe our paths crossed?
