Geant, C4, Hyperpanda and other large supermarkets, will all sell them at reasonable prices. The shop mentioned that is opposite Geant isn't particularly cheap. It's not the Samsonite one I'm talking about it's the other one. Also depends on how long you want the suitacases to last and how light you want them to be before you start packing.

There's a good shop in Ibn Battuta, sorry I can't remember the name but it's just up from Geant passed a camera shop and it sells cases and handbags. On the left with Geant behind you.

All I will say is that if it is a tear the sooner you have it repaired the better. I had 6 lots of physio first as we thought it was muscle related and we'll now never know if that made it worse or not. Off for my first physio session this morning ?

How long has this maid been with you? If she has been a good employee for, let's say 5 years, I'd let it slide. But if she has only been with you a few months, I would be concerned... she has been with me for 5 months now, she usually leaves thursday afternoon and come back friday night. and yes I am concerned about the way she dresses and behaves because she is taking care of my son when I am at work and I do not want her to end up bringing someone to the house while we are at work. I am sure she is dating someone, [b'>however it is not my business,[/b'> what I care about is the safety of my son and not to get my DH into a trouble since he is her sponsor. PS: and I also know that as per UAE law , she is suppose to dress modestly. It IS your business - she is not just an employee but someone who is in your care while in teh UAE, whatever she gets up to in her off time, can come back and bite you in the ass. I agree. I'd be worried she came back pregnant.

Thanks for the update GE, can you give us an update after your surgery as I am wondering how long the healing process/down time will be as I can't take too much time off work and I my job is physically demanding. I am off to see Dr Andreas today and I am guessing I will have the MRI in the next couple of days. Good luck with your surgery. Hi skyhighgirl Just to let you know surgery went well, although it took nearer to three hours than the two we thought. As far as recovery goes it will probably depend on exactly what you have repaired. As my tear was right on top of the biceps muscle it hurts like **** and I have to keep my arm out at a slight angle to let the rotator cuff settle. I was given a sick note for two weeks and yes I need it, there is no way I could think of going back to work at the moment. Just waiting for the physio approval now and then we will see what happens, although I have some gentle exercises to start with. If you want to know anything else I'll be more than happy to talk to you. Also Dr Nojoomi is a lovely man and I was so pleased I went with my first instinct about him.

From someone who has taken literally months to pluck up the courage to have my hair cut - more than just a trim - and colour redone properly, I can highly recommend Essentails on Al Wasl Road.

Unfortunately with five pets we couldn't even contemplate this. Also by the time we would have looked into paying more agency and moving fees it worked out better/easier to pay the rental increase. Also we wouldn't compromise the life our pets have out here <em>edited by Geordie expat on 22/07/2014</em>

Mine was made redundant which was the only reason we moved out here. A word of warning though it has taken me two years to find a permanent role. Depending on what you do or want to do you could always temp if you're on your DH visa

not easy but I'm sure we will have a good time. I am convincing myself we will!! where do you live? how long have you been out there? We're just into our third year and have a villa in JVT as we brought 5 pets with us ?. To be honest we just live the same as we did back home apart from not seeing the family ?. We do go out occasionally but not that often what with both of us working it's the long hours that spoil it ?

Just another suggestion, but if you have a UAE HSBC MasterCard when you get out here use it for as much as you can along with the Airmiles UAE card. Doubles your miles and they can be worth it if you want free flights. We've had two each to Cyprus so far ? <em>edited by Geordie expat on 22/07/2014</em>

Try Geant online and if you search on here there are a few others now too Really! Good to know - but I don't know anyone that does it, the popular western supermarkets - Waitrose and Spinneys don't offer it! Never actually used it myself, but I know of a number of people who really rate Geant for their delivery service

Hi, Can anyone point me in the direction of a jewellers who create quality jewellery for a reasonable price? I went to Cara in the Gold and Diamond Park and really felt like they were ripping me off! Has anyone been to Cara and had a piece of jewellery made... what did you think of it? Also - has anyone visited the Gold Souk in Diera? Any recommendations for a jewellers there? Thanks! :) TBH I went to Cara and was not convinced either - sorry I don't have a recommendation though. PS if this is 'the' GB congratulations! :) If your referring to her off Dubai 92 - its not her! Sorry :) Plus she isnt even a 'proper' Geordie! I find her so irritatingly annoying... anyway back to rings and all things sparkly ha ;) Hate to hijack but what's a proper Geordie?

I never knew that If I ever need more than 200 AED I always used to end up getting cash out in multiples of 300 then at least I got the odd 100 note. You can guarantee if you ask for 1000 there will only ever be one 100 note (if you're lucky) and then the poor guy at the petrol station has to find me some change ;) Or perhaps it's just me that prefers small denomination notes.

thanks geordie i am about to become a premier customer as we aren't with HSBC at all here. i think your right looks the best for transferring funds etc. i am a great one for online banking so hopefully will suit me fine. We've had no issues out here and we've very rarely had to go into a branch. Everything we do is on line. All I will say is try and avoid the HSBC ATMs though, as they always give out large denomination notes, we just use any one with a Visa sign ;)

Thank you that really answers the question HSBC it is ! For better or worse ! If you're not already an HSBC Premier Customer, try and get them to upgrade you to one before you leave the UK. Makes life a lot easier out here and also money transfers are then free from her back to the UK or Jersey.

It's also a great way to start losing the baby weight :) Does that really work - I thought that was a little myth?! I honestly think it does work. I felt it did with both of mine and my youngest felt the same with her two, even though she just managed it for a short while. Mind it's also probably got something to do with the fact that you're constantly on your feet and haven't got time to eat some days ;) Not for me, I actually can't stop eating, I'm so hungry all the time, worse than I ever was in pregnancy. I still ate for England, but it did drop off fairly quickly at first with all the rushing around and lack of sleep. Even more so with the second when you're running after a toddler too.

Lufthansa is not a Dutch airline, they're German. I do like Lufthansa, only thing is their transit times are looooooooooong when you fly to and from Dubai. Come on it was the Daily Fail ;) Do you expect them to get it all right :) True, I should lower my expectations :p.. And I should probably improve my reading matter, but it makes light of a loooong day ;)

Can your new company not make an out of country application for your new visa and then you could go away and come back picking up the visa application on your way in. That's assuming there would be time to do that now. Also it's cheaper for them this way.

But don't forget, if you are changing jobs, they will still have to put a new residency visa in your passport, once you have had another blood test. So yes your passport, and you, could be needed at any time.

That was what I thought too. We had a guy who had started work and his visa application was in process, when he was asked to go to Oman for a couple of days. He wasn't allowed as his application was in progress. Can you not just leave and then come back on a visitor visa, which will give your new comapny plenty time to arrange your new visa. What if they need your passport while you're out of Dubai?

Speaking as a pedestrian. there's nothing worse than dog poo on the path where people walk.. Sadly it's yet another example of the few spoiling it for the majority - failure to clean up after dogs has necessitated a ban... And unfortunately this happens the world over :(

Thanks for the reassurance. I am looking forward to it, in the hope that once I'm fit again this pain will just go away, but obviously apprehensive about the op. I don't mind the three weeks of not driving, but I'm hoping to get back to work earlier. Three weeks in the house would drive me nuts ;)
