We've got a 2 bed villa in JVT and if you wanted the same space, you would have to look at the individual villas at the far end on JVC near Hessa Street. They are all brand new. The town houses we looked at in JVC are mainly three storey but with very little outside space. JVT is mainly villas with one newly opened apartment block and one about to open sometime soon!!!

I don't live there, but we're across the Al Khail in JVT. JVC is not a gated community, it is all individual buildings and blocks of town houses or independent villas. The quality of the build is pretty much the same as us, some good, some bad. I would honestly suggest you go and have a look at it, as many parts are still a complete building site. edited by Geordie expat on 14/07/2014

If you can wait till tomorrow I have the name of a guy at the Turkish Embassy, who translated a POA for us. He may still do translations as ours was only done at the beginning of this year.

I know some people in Dubai who have made their villa gardens cat proof, to keep theirs in and others out. They've had wire attached to the tops of their walls at an angle, so it bends back in over (think prisons). This means that their cats can't get out and it also appears to stop other getting in. Or some others have built huge enclosures attached to their villas so the cats have the freedom to wandet in and out as they please without escaping.

I have the odd winge on a weekend when it's too humid but apart from that it's just a fact of life out here, so have to get on with it. edited by Geordie expat on 13/07/2014

I am the other way round - the girl with not much brains doesn't like other cats (even the boys she hisses when they walk past her) and to put her in a cattery is just horrid - she spends the whole time hissing at teh other cats.... For our 2 weeks in October, we haven't any choice. They've always just had to put up with it and to be honest none of them seen any the worse for it and at least they can see what's going on around them all day.

We already have a pet proof house. If it wasn't for the Bengal I wouldn't be too worried, but he's bad enough being left while we're at work ;) I also just wouldn't feel safe leaving the house in someone else's hands for a couple of weeks. Our neighbours are great as they pop in almost every other day, just to check on it, but I wouldn't want them to have the responsibility of ensuring the cats didn't escape.

"Pet proof' for cats ??? Apart from removing everything, including the curtains, we wouldn't be able to do much else. They would be far too bored stuck in the house 24/7 with only a couple of visits a day.

Exactly. I wouldn't want anyone to be responsible for ours while we're away. I'd be forever worried in case they escaped or wrecked the house!!

I would be worried in case something happened to them in my house. Accident etc or if something was damaged / stolen and you had employed them illegally. I know most of them will be careful, but I would be constantly worried in case they didn't lock up properly or one of the cats got out and they couldn't get it back in while they were there.

Thanks for the update GE, can you give us an update after your surgery as I am wondering how long the healing process/down time will be as I can't take too much time off work and I my job is physically demanding. I am off to see Dr Andreas today and I am guessing I will have the MRI in the next couple of days. Good luck with your surgery. Hi there Any news on your MRI. I'm at the stage now where I'm both dreading and looking forward to next Saturday!

[b'>Out of interest, why is this an "urgent query"? [/b'>You don't do anything now, other than deliver the car to wherever your insurance company says to deliver it for repair. It wasn't your fault, so your insurance company will initiate the repair process and claim back the costs from the other driver's insurance. I'm really sitting on my hands after reading that ;)

Ordered last week and got an sms from Skynet to be told that the shipment is awaiting clearance and I have to pay 200 aed customs charge ? is it because my order was AED 1800 ? Probably. Next time say that it's a present and they shouldn't put a receipt in the parcel. Damn it .. should have asked this question before I ordered ! Sorry i hijacked the thread but good to know ! No problems. I only found out the hard way too :(

That is a discussion I will be having with the anaethetist next week. If it's going to be a long procedure I don't really think I want to be awake. The surgeon won't actually know until he has a proper look, but he has booked a two hour slot !

cooking rosewater is availbale in all supermarkets - is that the same thing? I would assume that if it's ok to swallow it, it would be ok on your skin, unless there is something missing from the cooking version?

I think maybe there are some huge underlying issues that are the root cause of the riots... football just being the excuse. You must be right, no offence to footie fans but I have never understood how a bunch of knobbly kneed guys running around with a ball inspires such passion. I must be missing something! That makes two of us then :)

To be honest I don't. As I say we don't get out that much, long working hours and all that and how sad are we. I'm sure that someone one here though will be able to give you advice on any clubs or social activities you could join. Hope you enjoy life out here :)
