Firstly at least your DH has told you about it and said he can't stay with you. Secondly, would it not be possible for your DH to give him the money personally, then there is no chance of him giving you a story about what happened to it?

The way I read it she earns 20k and he earns the 5500 + commission. I thought the reason they said no was the lack of maids room. So if she can't leave the house because she had no maid, how is she still earning? edited by Geordie expat on 24/06/2014 maybe she doesn't work but she meant that every time she goes out she has to take them all with her - guessing they're all little... I read it as 5500 basic and the rest commission which takes it up to 20k a month She doesn't work and stays at home with the kids So why does she need a maid?

I have a front loader. Is it safe to use? I'm scared to take the risk in case my washing machine packs up after all I've just purchased a new fridge freezer which cost a bomb! Thanks. I once made a mistake of thinking its fine to use top loader washing powder in front loader machine, only to end up with endless grey 'gunk' all over the rubber by the door and the clothes. Machine has been to service twice now as a result of this, I'm getting a new washing machine as the grey gunk just keeps appearing from nowhere, making me wash a set twice.... Engineers say it's because it got stuck in certain parts that they cannot remove, blah blah blah...they also told me never to use the wrong washing powder as it's formulated a bit different....but I'm not sure about the last part, it might be sg. they came up with :-) No the last part is true, they are formulated differently. But the grey gunk coming from the different powder isn't correct. <em>edited by Geordie expat on 24/06/2014</em>

it does not sound realistic at all. There is no way 20k income will cover rental of 2br apartment in Motorcity, maid, groceries and schooling for at least 3 kids. edited by irish259 on 24/06/2014 + husnbands basic of 5500 + Commission if I read her first post correctly - they could not hire a maid bc her husband salary was not enough. Even she said after she earns 20k, it seems like illegal income then, if this salary cannot be disclosed in order to hire a maid. or Am I wrong? She said she'd gone through all the paperwork to get a maid from Howdra but when they found out she didn't have enough room they refused her.... I don't think this is a wind up but it does help to explain why so many maids insist on Western families as their preferred employers... this is extract from her first post: "...I came back just shifted and hit to know that my husbands salary on the contract is 5500 only and to sponser a maid that should be around 10000 I mean I am living in motor city paying a huge rent of two bed apartment and just because of this issue can't sponsor a maid…" But somewhere else she did say that she had a 20k salary. Please don't ask me where though

Yea Sarah all are boys and my income is 20k not the salary but this is a situation where I'm stuck just cannot rent another apartment until this contract is over . So get on with it until you can move somewhere more suitable. A lot of people have to do just that.

OP you are talking about the basic salary to sponsor a maid right? If you are on 20k then surely your basic would be higher than 10k hence you can sponsor a maid. Agree with all that the others have said - it is downright harsh to put a maid in with your 3 kids and frankly disgusting that you would have her switch lights on and off / watch TV etc while they sleep whether it disturbs them or not. Surely you and your husband can afford a 2 bed or even 3 bed + maid with your combined salaries - there are large apartments in Remraam and other communities that would give you far more space and provide legal and nicer working conditions for your maid. I don't think the problem is that she can't afford to sponsor a maid. It's the fact that the company have said no because she has no room for one. Although she did have a bit of a winge at the cost

And no one worried about my privacy when I was in the Army and bunked up with 49 other people. No one complained that my human rights were being violated ... Absolutely right I agree no boys says how some people treat them they even beat them often who so ever is talking abt the human rights don't they know last month I was reading in gulf news a maid was so badly burned her employer threw hot water she was admitted to hospital just because she didn't served her coffee don't really remember the whole story but here I'm giving her enough money to eat to sleep now if I am compromising with money can't they compromise on privacy after all they need to earn I think if u treat them on priority there demands are never going to finish they run away from there local sponser every other maid runs I bet I'd be more concerned about your kids having to have a stranger and all her stuff in their bedroom all the time... Obviously the kids don't count

You probably didn't get yourself into debt to take this job which was sold to you with different terms, not in a position to complain or resign.... I was bunked up with a bunch of ex-drug dealers from Chicago who wanted to beat the **** out of me from day one and told me so ... But I knew what the job entailed and so did the maid. Most maids come expecting the worst. Have any of you seen how maids live in other parts of the middle east? My maid in Jordan lived in someone's kitchen for two years before we hired her. Worked all day in the store, then cleaned all night. And she supported her family on it for $150 usd a month. You are a strong educated woman, with the intellegence and gumption to get any job that you want - you are not a undeducated, naive girl form a third world country - you cannot even compare the situations. Just becuase some women put up wiht being treated like modern day slaves does not mean we as strong educated woman should say nothing / do nothing about it. Haven't got the thumbs on my browser, but very well said.

It certainly won't wreck your machine. You just may end up having to mop up all the suds it will create. There are no suds suppressors in top loader products.

S Did you get your shipment through customs or do we have some happy custom men? No sent it back before it even left the States and just waiting for my refund. Went into Dubai Mall on Saturday and bought two similar items and saved AED225 on what I had originally paid online :) So just Mr GE happy ;) As my eldest would say 'how rude' ;)

You've really got to go into one of their branches, but even then don't expect them to get it right. We cancelled our BB contracts back in Feb and we're still getting bills from them :( The telephone and email complaints are absolutely useless.

Interesting Geordie. I was told (or did I misunderstand??) that it's better NOT to go back at the start of the tax year. So are they saying that they will tax your UAE salary for part of the tax year that you have been living over here then (in the year you return to the UK)? Don't forget that you are only allowed so many days back in the UK each year, so if you go back half way through and are over that amount of days then you will be taxed.

Yes. When we first came out it was around the end of April 2012 and we were told that to make sure we weren't taxed we had to stay out here until at least the beginning of April 2014. We had to be out of the country for a full tax year, and then depending on when we went back we could be taxed on our UAE income.

We were told by HMRC when we left that if we ever did return the best time would be just as a new tax year starts. So get paid out here in March and then go back. Then you're starting the new tax year in the UK.

Not so sure about this. I would check on an individual basis Your tax status when you return If you return to the UK to live or work, you will normally become resident in the UK. This means you: •pay tax on your UK income and capital gains •are entitled to the Income Tax Personal Allowance (unless you pay tax on the 'remittance basis') and the Capital Gains Tax Annual Exempt Amount •will have to pay UK tax on your foreign income and gains (unless you choose to pay tax on the 'remittance basis') http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/international/remittance.htm

Really? Most non celebs that I've seen wearing body con dresses look like over stuffed sausages...... You do have to be slim to start Daza otherwise it does squish in and out if that makes sense If you every go out in the UK cities at nigh you will see many women [b'>shoe horned into them [/b'>;-) Not quite as bad, but this reminds me of being shoe horned into jeans, often using a coat hanger on the zip, many many years ago and then having to make sure a friend came to the loo with you to get them fastened again.

I think it depends on when in the UK tax year you go back. But there again how can they find out what you earned out here to be able to tax you on it? You could say anything.
