When you register with Ejari, you need a copy of the title deeds to the property, would that document not have the number of bedrooms on it?

To be honest I don't think you can do any more than guess an average at this stage. It will all depend on the amount of water you use and whether you cook with electricity or gas. it's the same the world over, you just have to wait and see, and if it is very high, see where it's going and where you can cut back. And if you're in the house all day or not.

haha after 10 years in UK my body is still adjusting to the 'toastier' climate! I'm only starting my third year here after never leaving the UK and I still need to go outside and warm up every now and again, and I'm a cheapskate :) <em>edited by Geordie expat on 22/06/2014</em>

If you are determined to keep feeding them, you must arrange for them to be neutered as soon as they are old enough. Hopefully you'll be advised by one of the Feline rescue places where you can get it done slightly cheaper since they are strays.

I agree about the accuracy of the bills. We spent two weeks away and the DEWA bill was higher than we were expecting. I forgot to check the meters at that point, but I will when we get this months. AC on 25 and 22 - I'd freeze!! Ours is never less than 27 and even then I'm still cold.

Just spoken to a colleague and she says 4 days at that time of year will be good. Plenty of churches to go and see and try and include a Wednesday, as there is a night market, which although only sells Indian handicrafts, is definitely worth it for the experience.

The only housing fee I am aware of is the one which tennants pay on their DEWA bill, which is 5% of your rent divided by 12.

I came passed there at around 08:20 this morning and if you're heading up Hessa Street it was fine. I wouldn;t have liked to be trying to get down towards SZR though :(

Turning right mightn't be too bad, but I definitely don't recommend attempting to go left down Hessa Street towards SZR. Most mornings it's a car park :( If you want to get to SZR use the next junction and go down Um Suquiem Street. Not always. It always helps to know what others have gone through in the same or similar situations as both RERA and the RC have a habit of giving different answers, depending on who you speak to!

Sadly for us I think they're testing our nerve. We've mentioned we know about the rent calculator, rent committee, RERA, etc etc... they don't care and still ignore us. Last year they blatantly said fine, don't have an increase in rent and we'll give you your 12 month notice. So if they say this again ask what their reason is. Ours was going to try that too, but backed down. You've got to stand up to them. <em>edited by Geordie expat on 19/06/2014</em>

We've lived across the Al Khail in JVT for over two years now and I can honestly say that the two access points for JVC onto and off the Al Khail have never been that built up. As long as you're planning to drive down the Al Khail you'll be fine. if you need to get onto Hessa Street that can be a nightmare during rush hour. As far as I am aware they do have a half decent range of small shops, but no community pools. All we have are two small shops, a couple of parks, some tennis courts and basket ball courts. All I can say about the taxis is we still have problems in JVT getting them to find us. Majority of us use a company called Careem, at least to get out, as they have no issues. All the cars have Sat Navs. They are slightly more expensive, but definitely worth it for piece of mind. Coming back by ordinary taxi is fine though. Just a warning though a few people have complained saying that it's very dirty and sandy there, due to the building works, but hey it's still like that for us too. We only had to tell our LL that we were going to lodge our cheques with RERA and the new contract immediately appeared, just as we had been asking for, for the last 4 months. No stupid extra clauses and definitely no Non-renewable clause. Sometimes that's all it takes, just to let them know that you know the laws and are abiding by them.

DH is what I would class as a business person, but if he even suggested spending that amount on a gym or PT, he would be an ex-DH. I think we'll manage with our own diets, weights and an exercise bike :)

SL - i won a week trial session with them in January - if it can still be used to you want it? when I enquired around a year or so ago it was around 3K a month... if you go every alternate day for 1hr sessions with one of their regular trainers... they are flexible though and perhaps if you go at off peak times they can offer a better rate... best thing is to go in for one of their trial/introductory sessions to get a feel of the place... I've trained with Ghazi, Saika and Alexandra... all great! 3k a month WOW Thanks for the offer but I have a free gym in my building, I was just wondering what the cost was Thanks :-) Sorry but how anyone afford that? Some people earn more money than others GE Even if I did, I still don't think I would feel good about spending that on a gym

i very rarely get taxi now but when i did it was a 50/'50 lottery on what type i would get. I would also get the very nosy chatty ones who would ask so many overtly personal questions and when asked to just drive, would then drive like [b'>Ralph Schumacher[/b'>. Now that would scare me ;)

On the odd occasions I have used the taxis out here I've never had any issues. To be honest most have been either pleasant or just got on with their job. I had a couple not long after we first moved and I didn't know my way around even help by telling me exactly which Metro Station was closer to my house than the one I was originally asking for. The only reason I don't use them so much now is the fact that majority of them hate coming to JVT and when we're going out Careem is a safer bet. I will always used the regular taxis to come home with though. But yes if it had been me I would have been straight to the police, no matter what anyone else said. <em>edited by Geordie expat on 19/06/2014</em>

It's definitely worth a try. Get your CV polished up and contact a few recruitment agencies. You may not be working all the time, which is fine if you don't need the money, but it does mean you can holiday as and when you please :) <em>edited by Geordie expat on 18/06/2014</em>

Do you have experience of office work? As if you're on your husbands sponsorship, perhaps you could try for temp work and then you wouldn't be stuck with a set amount of holidays. You could pick and choose when you work.

All my friends back home always say how lucky I am and not having to work, that makes me feel even more terrible and guilty as I feel so low! How selfish am I! But the reality of not working is that the novelty doesn't last THAT long.. I don't have children and although say I would like to stay at home, I know I would be climbing the wills after a few weeks off Tell me about it :)

I would add, look for some work, either voluntary or paid. It will give your days some structure and also give you something to chat to your DH about.

I did notice some difference, when I was back in the UK and under 50. I think that out here you need something more to help you out and it also depends on your age. edited by Geordie expat on 16/06/2014 Early fifties but my skin is still quite good but want to keep it that way. Mid fifties now, but I still swear more by the night cream along with not much make up and sun screen.

I've always believed that the best thing to do is invest in a really good moisturising night cream. Doesn't matter about the make just make sure you put plenty on overnight. Then make sure you thoroughly cleanse in the morning to remove all traces. That's all I've ever done for the last 30+ years and I certainly don't feel I have a lot of wrinkles. I do believe a lot of it is genetics, climate, diet etc My Grandma smoked like a chimney and always used soap, water and ponds cream She passed at 97 with hardly any wrinkles on her face I agree Mum was the same, although it was Dad who smoked like a chimney and unfortunately we just had to sit and bear it.

The only one I managed to rescue was a frog, one of ours brought me. I'd completely forgotten that they 'play dead' when cornered and so picked the poor thing up, put it in a bag in the bin. Went to the bin about 3 hours later and was met by a moving plastic bag!! The frog was fine and given to a friend with a pond who lived a few streets away. I also never realised just how noisy and loud frogs are.
