Thank you all for the response. I have registered with Careem and have downloaded the App but just would like to know if they would definitely turn up, even at 5pm and on a Thursday (as your regular RTA taxis wont!). I will put money on them being there at around quarter to five ;)

I just don't want to be caught out with a scam, so best to stick to a company, but then who to go to, as agents are so rude and painful to deal with these days.. To be honest I didn't have any problems with my DVDs And before anyone on here picks on me none of them were p*** ;) I brought S** and the City, Rome and all sorts. They were just pack in the middle of all my other stuff including books and CDs.

It wont be at UK prices though :-( I only actually checked the price on the chocolate (funny that) and their basic cheap stuff was AED4.95 can't remember the exact price of the better stuff, but I didn't think it was too bad. I spent more time trying to see what else they had, as it wasn't easy to find.

Most of the stuff I have seen is from their finest range and it was a pain to find in the Choitrams I went into. Hopefully it will be easier in bigger branches.

Ours only like Dreamies and believe me we've tried everything else on the market, apart from these. When I do get round to placing an order, you may be getting a message offering you free cat treats for your dog ;)

I get dog treats shipped from the UK -- freeze-dried chicken strips and such -- and have done for years. Never had Aramex refuse the order. :D I always thought that shipping pet supplies this way was banned. Our cats only like certain treats which we can't get here :(

I do feel for you OP as I bet many of us have been in similar, if not such bad, situations in our lives. All I can suggest is, make sure she knows that you're there for her, perhaps get one of your mutual friends to make this quite plain to her, and then sit back. If you do get even more involved and something goes badly wrong with the relationship, or someone does something extremely stupid, I am sure you will never be able to forgive yourself. Hopefully, given time, your friend will realise that a good friendship can mean more than almost everything else <em>edited by Geordie expat on 07/05/2014</em>

The ones in C4 work just as well as the ones in the Smokers Centres, they sometimes just look better ;) And the tobacco is the same. I'm not a smoker of any kind but hubby is a sheesha "master" let's say and he said all is in the way you prepare the sheesha! :) :) Exactly, it's to do with the setting up, not what you're smoking it from.

Definitely don't miss the rain one little bit, especially where we live. What I just thought about last night though was the lovely evening times as the sun sets in summer. I really do miss that time of day. It was really nice here yesterday at sunset. I was outside wishing that I didn't have to call the kids in for bath time because it was so nice... That was what made me think about it, even mentioned it to DH, which something I very rarely do. Came in from work about quarter to seven, opened the doors and realised how lovely it was. Went to get changed and by the time I got back down it was almost dark. If I'd been in the UK I'd have had ages to chill at that time :( <em>edited by Geordie expat on 06/05/2014</em>

We have no choice, but to stay here for the foreseeable future. I'm getting used to it and do quite enjoy the lifestyle, but there is nothing to make up for having to watch the grandkids grow up via fb and skype :(

Don't you just love the Daily Fail though ;) Children on flight from Dubai in headline, it doesn't state where they started from until you read further down. Also the teachers reckoned it could have been excitement as for some it as their first flight. If it was their first flight, how did they get to SA? It sounds as though at least some of them ate something dodgy before getting on the plane, mass hysteria could very well have affected the rest. Exactly what I was thinking. I agree that it was probably a few and then mass hysteria with the rest.

I honestly don't know about that. This was all done on very good terms as the current tenant had already received her 12 months notice and then got an extra six at the same rent.

Can the 12month notice be served anytime not waiting till the end of lease? Has anyone had any recent experiences and got RERA to confirm this? We still have 5months on our current lease but got served the notice already. Also, our LL has stated he needs the apartment for his 'personal use'. As per the law, he should 'prove' he has nowhere else to live - but do the LLs actually have to prove it and how do they do it? Or should we go by the letter meaning that we could take this to RERA if the apartment got re-rented? Many thanks ladies edited by LovelyLilies on 05/05/2014 It doesn't state from end of contract anywhere and my LL checked as I did with RC and we told they could serve it at any point however most prefer to do it at the end of the lease Someone did say on here that when you move out to inform DEWA as they liaise with the RC and are aware that LL are giving the notice to sell purely to get In new tenants at a higher cost. A colleague of DH has just purchased an apartment recently. She gave her current tenant a six month lease agreed by both as the previous LL had given her the 12 months notice, so I would presume that your LL can then give you a shorter contract the cover the remaining few months. Not sure how you can get him to prove he is living in it himself, but I believe that someone said in a thread the other day that you can contact RERA and DEWA and get them involved. <em>edited by Geordie expat on 05/05/2014</em>

Sounds as if he's trying to pull a fast one, if you have never seen the original, with the actual date on it. I would just do as Sarahlou says, quote the law at him and keep copies of everything.

The LL must send it via courier or notarise it. He can't just send it to your mail box, he needs the proof that you have received it.

Sorry mrsb but NO. There is NEVER any excuse for anyone to slap a child across the face. I did not say I agreed or even condoned the act of slapping a toddler. I just feel that in this country one should not interfere in other's family affairs. Also, there is a huge difference between one quick slap (which I personally think is wrong) and abuse (which does need to be reported to the authorities immediately). I am sorry Geordie Expat if my response was unclear. No doubt we've all felt like slapping our children at some time. I know I have. But I would never have dreamed of hitting them across the face. I know what you say about interfering, especially in this country, but my feelings would be, perhaps I am saving that child from something much worse. What made me wonder, was the fact that the child stopped crying immediately. Was that from pure shock or was he used to it. I certainly hope it was the former.
